Okay this is a "everybody is wolves" RP

Fenris is the Alpha but other than that you can be whoever you want, part of the pack, a lone wolf, escaped from a lab, a lost pet wolf, etc.

Setting: Winter, they are in the wild.

Rules:

1) You need to pick a wolf name, Fenris is Fenris but everyone else should have a name made from words a wolf would know, like "Scrap Stealer" or "Screaming Rabbit".

2) Weapons and familiars are also wolves! No humans!! Everyone is a wolf.

3) Fur/blood/nose/tongue colors can be unnatural, have patterns, I guess if you want them to have bleeding hexagrams on the side or something they can. No wings/horns.

4) No tech/clothes, they can have "accessories", but it would have to be something they found in nature, like dead bird wings or sticks.

also as a warning I know nothing about actual wolves

The hunting had been lean this year, but this morning the whole pack was stirring with news of a herd of elk moving through the territory.

Sleeper was, as usual, curled up deep in his den, conserving energy for the hunt that he might not actually go on. He was lean, with a handsome, thick black pelt, glowing orange eyes, and grey-blue paw pads with sharp, too-long claws. The fur on his chin was especially scruffy. As with everyone else in the pack, it had been a while since he'd had anything but sticks to chew on.

"They could have the decency to wait for afternoon," he complained to his mate, rolling over on his back and stretching. He was not a morning wolf.

Soft, too, was still in her den, and gave her mate's face a sad lick. They needed the meat, and elk were a dangerous quarry. An overzealous wolf could easily be gored. She had a poofy grey and white spotted coat, with silver eyes and a gentle disposition. She liked caring for pups more than the energy and blood of the hunting part, and her mate hadn't been able to join the hunt for a while. "I hope everyone comes back safely," she said.

Claim, on the other paw was all ready to go. He bristled with anticipation of the hunt, warming up by pouncing on an otherwise innocuous rock. Fang waited nearby, her tail wagging a little as she watched Claim. "What if I trip?" She whimpered, "Oh, it's so embarrassing, hunting in front of Fenris..."

"You'll be fine!" Claim said, snapping up a puff of snow in his jaws and shaking it back and forth vigorously. He and Fang both had wheat-gold coats, although his wasn't very well cared for. Fang's was neat and smooth, her teeth unusually sharp and her tail unusually long. Claim panted happily, snow all over his muzzle. "Is my brother up yet?"

Fenris never got desperate, even in the jaws of winter, with everyone's bellies pulled tight up against their lean spines, hunger a constant gnawing companion as they went along their way. He'd endured worse winters than this one and they as a pack would endure far worse successfully under his supervision. There were no doubts, there was no room to doubt in his mind, only absolutes.

Fenris was a huge wolf, built in a way reminiscent of the long gone dire breed, with thick fur which shifted silver and dark in ripples across his body, pooling in shadowy accents and fading almost white on his underbelly and paws which were topped in strong claws.

He'd scented the elk and he let the pack get riled up in anticipation of the hunt, you always did, you needed to get their blood up and pumping before you left and it was always the younglings that helped. "Bold." he barked at the young wolf. "I want you to scout the trail, take your brother, find it and wait for us."

"..where is your brother?" he asked.

Gifted wasn't with the others, much like his brother had guessed, he was sleeping, not in the den with the others but in a cosy snow bed he'd dug underneath the thick snow, curled up in a tight ball with his long sandy tail covering his nose, he stirred only when he heard the bark of the alpha calling him, starting and scrabbling out to pull himself onto the snow, panting with a big grin.

"Heeey. Here I am." he said brightly but could tell already that he was trying the Alpha's' patience with his attitude. He got behind his brother. "Hey Bold." he said, licking his face and nose. "What're we doin?"

Hungry, true to her name, was hungry. The lean lithe b***h was in the same den as sleeper and she bared her fangs tetchily at him for his comment. "You could have the decency to be less lazy." she said, nipping at his rump as she got up. "You are coming with me, I'm not hunting down prey alone while you sleep till sundown. I'll pull more of your fur out if you don't get up." She was used to her lazy mate and was more than happy to deal with him as the situation saw fit.

Deceiver had found things tougher since he'd lost his paw to a hunter's trap, and by all rights of the forest should have been dead. He refused to quit though and had mended off of the regurgitated meals the pups usually got fed, treated like an invalid as he was one. But he hadn't gotten so sleek and old - with his sandy coat turned grey about the angular face - without a few tricks. He'd found them some edible things, sneaking them a hare he'd managed to coax within the reach of his jaws down into their den. He wanted to look after Soft and was adamant that she would be well throughout this winter, even if her mate had been forced to gnaw off his own foot.

He wouldn't be going on the hunt, more a liability than anything else, but that didn't mean that he wouldn't find her something from elsewhere. The forest was dire but there were hidden troves of insects and other treasures to be found for someone who knew where to look. He'd lived though more winters than anyone but the alpha and he knew the lay of the land. "I hope the boys aren't stupid." he snorted. "Though the Alpha'll keep them safe I'm sure, even if they are."

He moved to lick the other wolf on the nose. "How are you doing?" he asked, more gently.

Sleeper left his paws limply in the air in spite of the n**, stretching to give Hungry a pacifying lick on the chin. "Oh, you can't mean that," he said. "We don't have to go right this moment. The elk aren't getting any less...elky."

It was a wonder he hadn't starved to death, but as wolves went, Sleeper was fairly clever, and often made use of the terrain and cooperation (usually more delegation) over a lot of pursuing. He hated pursuing more than anything. They run, then you run, then they run...if he could put a permanent stop to all the running he would have been perfectly happy.

And as bitches went, Hungry was an excellent delegationee.

Malkam barked at his brother happily and immediately tackled him, giving him some harmless, soft-mouthed play bites.

"Hunting!" He responded, "For big, yellow, elk!" and he took Mikael's neck in his mouth, growling, "This one tastes funny."

Soft wagged her tail at the lick, "Happy," she said. Hungry, too, always, but Deceiver knew, and was doing everything he could to provide. He had been one of the strongest wolves in the clan, and his experience was the only thing that had kept him from starving long after losing his paw. But they weren't alone, either.

Water grumped from the back of the den, speaking for her, "If we don't get some meat soon nobody's going to be happy."

Hungry snarled loud enough at Sleeper it was practically a roar. It was pretty normal though, she was known for her temper and before the relaxed wolf it had been the general unspoken opinion of everyone else that she'd never find a mate who could handle her. She'd had aspirations of being the alpha female but after a few direct run ins with the alpha, fen had very firmly put her in her place and sent her off. He wasn't interested for his own reasons and instead permitted another couple to provide the pups the pack would sustain. Hungry was mad about this and had been for the whole mating season and her irritation hadn't quite sloped off.

"They won't get less ELKY but they will get MORE GONE." she hissed, moving to shove him roughly with her forepaws. "They'll leave without me and there will only be you to blame you useless mangy sack of fur." The chin lick seemed only to have stopped her biting him, which was progress of a sort.

"Get. UP."

Gifted whined happily at his brother, bucking and doing a playful imitation of a struggling elk. He laughed at the comment about his taste. "I found some really great musk to roll in!" he announced brightly. "I'm in-vis-I-ble." he said.

"Yer ******** stupid." came a grinning voice from nearby. "Could smell ye a mile away. Think the elk won't?" Good Boy was anything but, a huge broad shouldered wolf that some of the pack assumed had a bit of domestic in him, though no one would say it to his face. His markings were all wrong, with strange blotches here and there. He had bright blue eyes. "Help him groom that shite aff his fur." he said with that same broad smile and a relaxed pant. "Or ye wullnae be tastin any elk at aw'"

Deceiver nuzzled his mate with a pang of determination and pride. He wouldn't fail at being a provider when it was how he defined himself. He was a father to big strong pups and a partner to his mate. Soft wasn't in any condition to be out risking herself on a hunt and this was the slim time when had to do things himself.

"I have some ideas. I'll find something, and maybe the pack will bring something back too. If I fail."

He hoped he didn't fail.

Deep had been frustrated with the lack of prey to pick apart and most were on their own, scavenging for whatever snake could be overturned or moles that could be rooted up, all who made poor choices in not digging deep enough down for them to sniff them out. It kept them going, but it wouldn't keep them alive.

News of the elk had been on the wind, and he moved with the others, excitable for a hunt. There was something moving and exhilarating that a prospect of having a full stomach didn't cover. There was organization, there was frantic skill, and the orchestrating of Fenris and the others made him feel bigger than himself when he could play a part. The matting season had not been entirely fair to him, and hunting was all he could really look forward to at the moment.

Like a few others, he was a sleek male, often trying to hunt near the rivers and catching fish though the rivers had nothing to give now and the lakes were too thick with ice for him to dig through. His own fur was a sunny gold, with a underbelly of creamy white that traveled up around his face and ears, all of which was kept immaculate and well groomed.

Moving to the group, he came to the call.
--
Moving Earth had been in the den, sluggish but awake as the others started to summon their strength and interest for the hunt. While she was able to have pups, she had been less than enthused to partake and while she enjoyed the company of a few others, she hadn't contributed in numbers. Considering their lot in life this winter, she felt that having more mouths to not feed was a good choice on her part. Instead, she rose up to check about getting a meal for herself, not one for passing up an opportunity to grow bigger.

Among the other females, she was on the broader side though small, her fur mingled with various oranges and reds and eyes a light green. Shaking off the dirt from her fur, she went to check what was happening.

--

It was with a rustle of leaves that Biting came barreling, kicking up snow and dirt as he shook various leaves and dirt from his fur. What he was doing out in the woods was anyone's guess but he looked wet.

Sleek fur clung to his large frame, a wolf of dark black that faded out to a peculiar white with speckles about his rump. Tail wagging, he moved over to the Alpha. "What's happening?"

Strange, a young female of small frame and reddish fur stirred from a small neighboring den, the ruff of her fur was decorated with dried flowers wrapped in ivy. She shook herself, removing ice that settled in her coat through the night and padded out at the sound of others talking. Strange was quickly and attentively followed by the mostly-white Snow whom possessed a very large presence and unusual black markings that caped over his head and spread out across his back like wings.

Snow followed Strange in a way that seemed like an over-protective mate, but didn't dare claim her.

Death had been up for some time, his thick wooly black fur covered in a light dusting of snow as he sat out front of a den, he turned to bark at the den behind him, "it sounds like the elk have returned."

The young grey-furred male within the den grumbled groggily and turned over.

Bone eeled out of the brush, quiet as he always was, and seated himself beside the mouth of the den. He said nothing, but gave Death a flat-eyed, hostile stare. His mottled fur showed dirt on his paws; he had been digging somewhere.

Inside the den, Quiet woke, shook himself, and crawled out. "Where are they?" he asked Death. He was hesitant to approach the group where the alpha was, low-ranked and rather timid himself, and accordingly rather thin and a little scruffy.

Death didn't even bother to look up as Bone approached. He accepted the staring however for only a short time before turning his head on him and staring right back, the whites of his eyes very evident as he curled his lips in a toothy grin.

Raven grumbled even louder when Quiet moved and even followed him with his muzzle. "It's too colllld, come baaack," he whined obnoxiously.

Bone's lips peeled slowly back from his teeth as he returned the toothy threat smile. His stare did not break.

"We have to hunt, I think," Quiet turned to call back into the den. "Death said the elk are back."

"I don't wannaaa," Raven flailed his limbs in the air as he rolled over. "Can't the bigger meaner ones do it?"

Death predictably did not break the stare either. "Why don't you go back to digging up your rotted scraps?" he spat through gritted teeth.

"Think about the nice fresh meat," Quiet coaxed. "Wouldn't that be nice?"

"I ate them," Bone hissed, and rose, pacing forward and very deliberately invading Death's personal space.

"Mmm... maybe..." Quiet at least succeeded in getting Raven's head out of the den, he snuffled the icy ground curiously before taking a few testing licks.

Death responded to Bone with a loud warning snap that was accompanied by a vicious sounding snarl.

Raven bristled at the sound, "those two are already at it?"

Bone bristled in response, the fur on his spine rising and his tail held stiffly out. He snarled, a low and vicious sound.

"Aren't they always?" Quiet said, swiveling an ear back towards the standoff.
