Powering up after his shift turned into a routine of late. After rounding up all the trash from the day's shifts, Clay often clocked out and took the trash with him into the dumpster alley. As it shared a private parking space with the back ends of other businesses, he found ample space to move around as he pleased. All he needed to do was check occupied cars, toss the garbage into the large, smelly dumpster they kept, and then power up to head home at a much more amenable rate. Sometimes he sidetracked a little and powered up to fling a few choice garbage bags onto the roof from where he stood, but no one would know about those until the roof repairman dropped by for his yearly visit.

The only marked change in this routine was that Morpheus began to grow bold in his energy draining efforts. Perhaps it was foolish to do so, but he occasionally strolled through the sidewalks of Destiny City with mirror shard in hand and his wraitch darting about through less perceptive groups of people. He avoided detection thus far, but one person looked straight at the wraith before, and Morpheus was damn sure they intended to screwm about it. Even now, he knew not why they kept to themselves.

On this evening, with the ground successfully frozen, he tried the same. The lone wraith darted about touching the old, the middle-aged, and the young for their respective energies. He considered himself safe from detection; with everyone staring at the ground to prevent slipping on ice, they paid little attention to surrounding ephemeral creatures. Hell, even Morpheus found difficulties in watching out for other signatures when his boots continually slipped and slid on the sidewalk. Once already he suffered the indignity of landing on his a**.

The wraith neared capacity, however, and Morpheus heavily considered switching to rooftops for this difficult walk home. He even stopped to give himself the focus to think about it, and at that point he recognized a glinting White Moon power somewhere in his periphery.

"Maaaaan, not now." He huffed, his breath a fog in the chilly air.

Oh yes now. Now was always the time for action. Now was always the time for doing the right thing.

...Now was definitely the time to start including a heavy coat when powering up. Even though she was better off than some. At least her legs were covered...and most of her arms, and she had her stupid...weird feather...boa...thing…

Yeah. She was still cold as hell.

Kari still had a somewhat hard time realizing that someone else was around her, and perhaps it was just due to the fact that she still...hadn’t found a reason to care all that much. She was almost on top of the Dark Mirror Senshi before she really realized that he was there and when she did, she nearly just turned around and went the other way.

She hadn’t intended to meet anyone tonight, she had just intended on getting from point A to point B faster. But…well.

There was nothing to do now but face whoever it was and try to do her duty. Or something.

“You there! Halt. Or…whatever.” It was way too cold for this.

Morpheus' enthusiasm matched the new scout's, and he halted on command. Hell, halting seemed the warmer option as opposed to bracing the cold. So, with arms wrapped about himself, Morpheus' teeth chattered in response. "Sure, whatever." He looked to his wraith. The creature still whorled about, impervious to the algid temperatures. He envied it for that blissful unawareness of what it meant to freeze one's balls off.

Though, the new senshi that showed up didn't look much warmer. She sported similar clothing to his, despite the predominant white and the feathered fringe. The lack of full sleeves looked like a serious disadvantage in this weather. Why did anyone come out to do anything in the winter months? They felt harsh enough that Morpheus himself considered giving up the Dark Mirror trade until the weather got warmer. Perhaps that was half the reason he elected to obey her regardless of her tone of voice.

That, and aside from the green in her hair, she looked pretty cute.

"Look lady, if we're gonna fight, can we do it inside? My nuts are crystal ********' balls right now." He loosed a shivering sigh to emphasize his statement. "Just don't bust up my wraith, 'aight? Then we gonna have a real problem." Morpheus bounced on his feet as he waited for the creature to finish.

“Yeah well…if you don’t want your…wait, what? Your wraith?” Kari half listened to what the purple haired dark senshi was talking about, and for some reason, the only thing that really stuck out to her was that he mentioned his nuts, and that was utterly confusing and embarrassing and she had absolutely no way to even think of responding to that.

“What the hell is a wraith?”

It was never a wise thing to just come out and ask something that she didn’t know the answer to, and if she had to ask, she would have been much smarter to just ask someone who was on her side of all of this…instead of someone who was flat out assuming that they were going to fight…of course, she had started the entire mess by not just being semi intelligent and walking away…but there was nothing to do now but deal with the situation as best she could.

“If you don’t want your wraith to uh. Get busted…you should put it away, then. Or I’ll bust it up, just like your balls.”

Oh my god. Those words really just came from her mouth. With her face now a bright shade of crimson Kari held out her hand, unwilling to do anything but just…make this all end. “Loyalty Hurts!”

Sailor Kari holds out a hand towards an opponent and says the name of her attack, giving the opponent thirty seconds of pain. There is not any physical sign of it, and when the thirty seconds is up there are no lasting effects, but the level of pain that the opponent feels depends on his or her loyalty to chaos, the higher the loyalty, the more pain they feel. Can be used once per battle, on one opponent within a ten foot radius.

Morpheus blinked at her a couple times, then pointed wordlessly toward the mostly-solid creature that drifted toward him. It resembled a tattered, displaced shadow of a torso with no real indication of appendages or a head. It obeyed his urge for a recall, however, and sought the lone shard on his belt.

The followup to his gruff phrasing sounded damn near hilarious, however, and Morpheus temporarily lost sight of any danger in the other senshi. He chuckled, hands balling into fists on his hips, as he reflected over the way she so sheepishly said 'balls'. She blushed, too, which only added fuel to his entertainment. "Oh s**t," Morpheus eked out through his laughter, "say balls again. Come on, do it and I'll get steppin'." Seldom had he ever run into the type to blush over a word as plain as 'balls' before —

She spoke, and he thought she was kinda crazy, and then a distinct, emanating hurt grew in his chest. It proceeded outward as far as his shoulders, spread downward toward his intestines, and Morpheus loosed an unsurprising "Ow." He repeated himself twice more before he started to realize that the words she spoke and the pain he felt must've been magic.

Slow going, that.

"Hey, what the ********. Dude, I wasn't doin' nothin'. Why you gotta be like that? Ow." Massaging his chest offered no relief. "If you wanna be a d**k about it, here. Morpheus' Cinders." He brushed his sash and threw the handful of dust in her direction. Doing so only aggravated the pain in his shoulder.

"Your magic sucks," he added as insult to injury.

orangeish sherbert
Sailor Scout Attack: Morpheus' Cinders
Range: 6~-8', dependent on wind conditions
      Duration: 30 seconds
Use Count: Useable 3x without energy replenishment.
Miss Chance: Morpheus' attack can miss based on wind blowing the dust in the wrong direction, a character jumping out of the way, or shutting their eyes / shielding the face.
Effect: Morpheus can either wipe his forehead or touch the dust-laden ribbon of his uniform to summon a handful of soot. He then throws it toward the target (hence the variability on range), and if it strikes them in the eyes or face, the attack will take hold. It does not sting the eyes as one would expect of soot. From then on, the afflicted character will interpret the world with blended elements of stream of consciousness / dreaming. These elements are entirely up to the player - for example, they may see someone's face taper into a trombone, or watch a battle taking place upon a lake that's dripping upward onto the clouds, or that Destiny City has become a sphere encasing the entire battle, and looking upward reveals the rooftops of buildings on the other side. Any blended elements are free reign here - sights, sounds, tastes, feelings, and smells are all viably manipulable components in Morpheus' attack.

However, this magic can only augment parts of people - it cannot change the whole.

“No, your magic sucks—“ Kari broke off, closing her eyes as the dust entered them, expecting the annoying pain that came with getting something in one’s eye. When it didn’t come, she opened her eyes slowly and blinked rapidly. “What the…what’s going on?” The sky was now a delicate shade of pink with golden clouds that dipped up and down…that wasn’t normal.

Her eyes strayed back to Morpheus and widened slightly. He was a butterfly, with purple antennas…and wings…his fuku had changed into wings.
But he still looked…mostly human. Ish.

So…

“The dark mirror senshi are all insects…” It seemed like such a stupid thing to be finding out now…they were all bugs! They were bugging her, they were bugging the world.

Was this magic? Was this…what was going on.

“I don’t…understand.” Kari took a step backwards and stumbled, her footing unstable for some reason…perhaps it was this revelation. “I’m not going to become a bug…go back to your damn cocoon, you…you…Madame butterfly…you can’t fool me anymore…”

The world had turned upside down. That was all there was to it.

His chest still blistered and burnt with pain, and while Morpheus couldn't figure out if she gave him a bad case of heartburn or if this was what cancer felt like, he hoped it wasn't permanent. Permanence stood against what he knew of magic, but maybe the enemy had stronger stuff. She caused pain, after all. The damage wasn't enough that he felt rooted to the spot, however.

Briefly he considered a retreat, but when the senshi responded, he cocked a strained brow. "Isn't that one o' those old-timey insults? Dude, get with the times." We're all insects, huh? Wonder why she didn't add how she's gonna squash us. He wondered if insulting the other team was just as much a way to make war as using magic on one another. Maybe it was a staple gig, like gangs tagging their territory. Nobody ever did that in the war, that he knew of, but insults came around really often.

She continued, and his consternation thickened. She talked about turning into a bug, and called him Madame Butterfly. "What." It was all he could manage. What the hell did his magic do to her?

"What," he tried again.

s**t, I'd put my face in a bunch of dust to figure out what was going on with her, but that seems like a really shitty idea right now. Is this dust like super shrooms? Man, that's whack.

"Well uh," he backed up some, in case she elected to use her magic again. "How 'bout we agree to stay out of each other's way, then. You don't mess with me, I won't mess with you And don't go ********' around with the Dark Mirror again or we'll turn you into a bug." The ******** was that even about.

Kari’s eyes widened and she took another step backwards herself. “Hell no, I’ll make sure everyone finds out about this you know! You all won’t be safe! We…we can get bug spray! You’ll be goners!”
With that said, she turned and ran like hell. She had to spread this news! It was important! It was perhaps the most important news that anyone had ever…ever…”

Finally the brunette slowed, blinking and looking around. The sky had gone back to its normal color and she felt…better. Almost as though…

…as though the attack that that senshi had thrown had worn off. Well…

…Well.

She was quite sure that all of the Dark Mirror Senshi were bugs, and she fully intended to at least talk this suspicion over with someone…maybe. One day. When she came across someone she could talk to…because…she was now beginning to thoroughly doubt herself on multiple levels and…

Well. s**t. Maybe she should just go home and sleep. Maybe that was the real answer to all of this.
