He knew that face, he knew that fur and he most certainly knew those markings. If there had ever been an individual he didn't want to see again, it was this one. It wasn't that he found her incredibly irritating, it was more that she was in a rather compromising position. She had been caught on their borders after all, and then he had granted her the opening to flee after she had been defeated. All things consider she had been warned off approaching their lands again and while she was in the rogue lands now she certainly hadn't put much distance between herself and them.
She'd had plenty of times to achieve this distance as well, his band hadn't opted to go out on another Viking for quite some time, and yet here she was. At this current moment in time she was completely oblivious to his presence, he could only assume she felt safe in this particular location. It was a reasonable distance from his home after all, just not enough in the given circumstances.
Rather than spook her however, the lion opted to clear his throat.
A critical gaze was to follow as he set his eyes upon her and strode towards her. If she were to be captured now she really only would have herself to blame, she was tempting fate at this stage and given the chance quite a few of his band would be more than happy to acquire her. After all, she was pretty enough and healthy enough, she'd be of use no matter what their inclinations might be.
Small favours as they were, most of his band were slightly more respectable than what those on the outside would claim...Words: 287

She spooked, it came in the form of a shiver and she promptly spun around. What she was faced with was not someone she had expected to see, she had fled from their land and yet here he was. Worse? Well, he seemed to have covered quite a bit of distance and from what the other rogues had told her, she had been blessed by lady luck. According to those she had encountered during her journey away from the Viking land, she had stumbled upon a place of great violence and misery.
They were cold, brash, and if you weren't them then you were shackled and enslaved. You were expected to do their bidding and to disobey would mean severe injury or death. The horror stories had gotten even worse, with some rogues clearly describing encounters they had either witnessed or experienced. Se had been rather discomfited by it all... she hadn't felt like she ever really wanted to see them again.
Except for one niggling suspicion.
If they were so cruel, so lacking in compassion, then why had this one let her run? More to the point, why had those who had pressed her to fight been inclined to let her flee as well. None of them had seemed overly fussed in pursuing her after she had been so easily beaten. Something had not sat right with the young lioness and as such, she wasn't quite ready to run from him at this current moment in time.
"You..." she murmured slowly, a touch uncertain as to how she should address him. "Are you hear because you changed your mind?" she said finally.Words: 274

"Me," Tethys confirmed. He hadn't gotten her name the first time, but he was pleased to see she was at least being reasonably cautious following her previous encounter with his kind. He kept his distance, if only to reassure her that on this occasion he wouldn't be pursuing her. Better yet, he was benevolent enough to ensure that he gave her ample enough time to flee in another direction before his band got wind of the female that they had pushed into a battle for sport.
...Unsurprisingly they had been disappointed, the fight had been boring, he'd even been hung over so it should have been easy.
Nevertheless, he met her gaze when she queried him and after a moment of pause to consider his answer, he slowly shook his head from side to side. He had no intention of capturing her today, he failed to see the point. She hadn't intended to stumble in to his territory and based on her cautious reaction she wasn't inclined to revisit.
"No, I can't say that I have any desire to take your freedom his evening," he remarked and finally strode passed her towards the water. "Though you would do well to put greater distance between yourself and us, you caught more than a few eyes and you are most assuredly not capable of defending yourself," he pursed his lips.
"So if you are inclined to enter servitude then by all means remain, otherwise, I would encourage you to take your leave as quickly as you are able," he tilted his head to the side as he regarded his reflection. "And as quietly as possible," he added as a seeming after thought.Words: 282

"You aren't?" She couldn't hide the surprise in her voice as the male wandered passed her and towards the water. He seemed more concerned with catering to his own needs that shackling her and hauling her back to his band. As expected, it left her with questions, not an entirely healthy curiosity given the risks involved. Instead of responding immediately to his advice to flee, she continued to watch him for a considerable amount of time.
So, she had worked out that some things were right... They did take the freedom of others. However the rogues had been incorrect on one thing, in the sense that they didn't take the freedom of everything they met. From what she could gather, he seemed to have hinted that they often revoked the freedom of those identified to be weak.
...Perhaps they regarded them as undeserving?
Eventually she plucked up the courage to approach him by the shore and took a seat, fixing her gaze on his own reflection for a further few moments before she spoke again.
"I'm not inclined to servitude," she said finally and tilted her head to the side. "But why would this concern you? Out here they don't seem to think that such things matter..."Words: 208

"Generally, it doesn't," Tethys replied with a small sigh and turned his head to acknowledge her presence. "If a Viking is so inclined, they will take what they want. If that individual is incapable of defending themselves or their own property, then it is generally regarded as forfeit," he shrugged his shoulders and lowered his head to take a drink. It was clear that he didn't feel threatened in the slightest by the petite lioness.
"I see no point in claiming those who have no desire to enter servitude because the effort required to break them often outweighs the pay out," he straightened again and raised a brow. "However if you find individuals who would much rather prefer to exchange their freedom for security, then loyalty is already present and obedience is implied," he shrugged and leaned back.
Fixing her with a level stare, it was clear that he wasn't one to be gentle with his words.
"The band I am with however, has those within it that have differing opinions and find some sport in attempting to tame what they believe to be weak, hence the friendly advice..." he uttered and pursed his lips. "Which you should probably heed given your expressed desires."Words: 204

So it was acceptable for both types of personality to exist within this pride? From this statement, Tethys seemed to have implied that not everything was black and white. While forceful, it appeared that both natures were acceptable provided that both individuals could back up their stance with both force of will and strength. Tethys seemed to exhibit these in spades, while she conceded that she simply didn't have the same level of pride... it simply hadn't been something actively encouraged out here.
...Everyone just kept to themselves.
"So they do have some form of servitude," she said slowly, he hadn't denied this. "But you can use your own prerogative to decide whether or not someone should enter it..." she nodded as she absorbed this information, acutely aware of how bemused he seemed to be by her phrasing... Or perhaps it was that she hadn't fled from him like he had advised her to do?
"Will you answer some more questions for me?" she asked suddenly and took a breath. "I fear I have been misled and I would much prefer to understand things better, rather than to spread false information," she tilted her head to the side.
"Then you will leave?" he asked with a raised brow.
"Then I will leave, yes... " she paused. "In the direction that you advise so that we do not stumble across one another again..."
"Then I will answer what I can," he said with a sigh and shook his head, seemingly in defeat. This was one way to spend his evening...Words (Naima) : 221 Total Words (Naima) : 703 Words (Tethys) : 37 Total Words (Tethys) : 810
