The sun beat down on his striped back, usually when the sun was this bright he was sleeping, he liked to doze under a tree when it was this warm, but for some reason today his paws took him through through the sun struck lands. The shadows of the trees called to him and he made a beeline towards the shadows."Caesar, Caesar why are you up?"The big tom cat turned his gaze upwards, his golden eyes fixed on the deep blue bird "Dunno Cleo, just felt restless." He rumbles his deep voice echoing off the trees. The bird closed her wings and landed on the shoulders of the massive cat, her claws gently pinching to keep her foothold "Stop shortening my name Caesar, you wouldn't like it if I shortened your name." She snaps, clacking her beak in an irritated manner."Cleo, stop being so grumpy, let's get some lunch, I'm hungry."

Syrius Lionwing I love that he has a bird familiar and she a feline. XD The microraptor had always been at the mercy of those bigger than her. She often got chased away from anything good to eat when she managed to find something or catch it. Luck would have it that as a young tiny foal, Meoquanee had been found and adopted by a mountain lion. She trailed after the bigger cat who protected her and kept her fed as best as she was able. The pair still sometimes got into trouble over both their heads. Tahnee was running as fleet as her paws would carry her. Once again she wondered how the pair of them managed to piss off the biggest, meanest critter in the local area. "I told you not to ask directions!" She yelled at the little bird who was galloping beside her. The lion glanced over her shoulder as the bigger soq pounded down on them. "How was I suppose to know?!" The little bird cried plaintively. It had seemed like an innocent question. She wasn't sure why it had been taken so disastrously. Meoquanee gave a high pitched squeal as the pursuing soq got close enough to pluck feathers from her tail. "I said I was sorry!" She cried.

Magnadearel hehe I didn't even notice that! So cute XD! Caesars ears flickered when he heard the movement of undergrowth. "Something little this way comes." He chuckles stopping in his tracks, he tilts his head and waits patiently. When the little bird raced through the undergrowth he held a paw out. "Whoah." He raises a brow and smiles a toothy smile. "What's the hurry?" He rumbles looking down at the tiny mare. She reminded him of Cleo. The deep blue bird on his back looked around his wide neck. "Don't think you should be worrying about her right now, she's being chased." She snaps her beak looking down at the companion of the microraptor. "What's chasing you little kitty?"Caesar turns his gaze on the mountain lion and raises a brow, she wasnt being chased by the lion, so what was chasing her? "Get behind me." He rolls his shoulders barring his teeth his ears folding back a roar raising from his throat.

She was very much involved in looking behind her that when she burst out of the foliage she almost ran smack into another large soq. It was too close to dodge around him and keep running, so she dug in her hooves and screeched to a halt panting in front of him. Meoquanee saw the size of the fangs on the one facing her and her knees started knocking. Why?! Why was everything bigger and scarier than herself?!
The back of her mind, noted the large cat had a tiny bird with him. They seemed to be companions. That was ironic! Perhaps no more than her relationship with Tahnee. Her ears flicked behind her; easily catching the sounds of her pursuit. He was gaining! Terrified, she couldn't comprehend his instructions. If she continued forward she'd get eaten probably, but if she went back, she'd get eaten for sure! Tahnee pulled up to a more graceful halt as a new pair blocked their way. Her eyes narrowed as the bird had the gall to call her little kitty. When she took in the size of her companion though, it did rather make sense. She was very much smaller than the orange cat in front of them.
"Big and fierce. Don't suppose you could help a fellow cat out could you?" The lion didn't take any time and herded her frightened charge back behind the bigger cat. Meo did seem to calm down once she wasn't staring into the eyes, or maw?, of the larger carnivore. Although, she did have to pounce to hold the microraptor from bolting at the roar from the mighty cat. Man it was nice to have him on their side! In moment a dark black kalona charged through the underbrush.

The sabre toothed cat had never feared anyone. His size and stature and the length of his teeth saw to it that all who challenged him turned away. He certainly wasnt likely to turn tail and flee from anything even a black kalona. Standing tall and puffing out his mighty chest the ginger striped tom let out a low menacing growl. "Turn around friend." He unsheaths his claws pawing dangerously at the ground, his hackles rising, those golden eyes fixed menacingly on the enemy before him.Cleopatra on the other hand decided to glide down to the ground and look at the odd couple before her, she supposed they were in a similar situation as she and her companion, big cat, smaller bird. "Don't worry he'll see it off." She snaps her beak and raises her head to her tiger striped companion. "Any time today caesar, stop gesticulating."A rumble of laughter came from above though he didn't turn his head his eyes were fixed squarely upon the dark enemy before him. "But that's the best part." He rumbles his throaty growl echoing noisily off the trees that surrounded them.

Syrius Lionwing Sorry for the delay! This cold has been kicking my a**. Meoquanee was confused when Tahnee prevented her from bolting again. That was not a nice roar! "Why are we staying here?!" She whispered urgently to the brown cat. Usually she trusted the feline's judgement. However, today had just not been her day. First she'd lost the meal she'd caught then ran into the bad tempered kalona. By her logic they should high tail it out of there while the two were distracted with each other. It could be all too easy for one to win then resume or start another chase with her.
The microraptor was surprised when the larger cat's bird companion glided down to join them. Something about blue and orange feathered companion made her feel calmer. What was a large cat like him doing with a bird like that? Meo clicked her teeth faintly together in greeting. Tahnee relaxed and settled down. Going so far as to wrap her tail around her paws. This big cat definitely looked like he could handle himself! "Because I don't think he'll chase us. Indeed, why would he go out of his way to protect us?" She nodded her head as the bird came down to join them. "Greeting and thank you for your help. I have no idea how far that thing would have chased us!"

The big male finally made a move, a twitch in those massive shoulder blades the only sign that he was going to attack. He pounced and using his weight to his advantage tipped the Kalona he quickly pins the beast his teeth barred at its throat. "Away with you now before I make you lunch." He growls slowly moving off the creature and seeing it off with a final claw accross its hide. Staying on guard for a few more minutes the big striped cat nodded and turned around his gaze, now softer more careful, his claws vanishing beneath furry toes. "Now, what did you do to make that thing so mad with you hmm?" He raises a brow padding over to the two carefully before settling himself in to a laying position and crossing his massive front paws."Caesar you should be more careful, you left your belly vulnerable again." The blue and orange bird snapped opening her wings she waddles up to him checking his features and paws until she was satisfied he didn't have a scratch on him. "You know all you have going for you is the fact you're good looking, you should protect that maw of yours." She rolls her eyes, this was her version of caring for her large companion, she did worry about him, he was a fool sometimes, especially when it came to protecting those weaker than him, she was one of those cases. "What my companion here meant to say is that his name is Caesar and I am Cleopatra and he won't hurt you or eat you because he doesn't eat birds or kitty's." She clips her beak and opens her wings alighting on to the big cats back "Also he's an idiot who doesn't back away from a fight."Caesar chuckles quietly at the birds scathing words. He knew her too well to be offended by anything she said, she was his friend and constant companion. "Don't mind Cleo, she's just a grouch." He nods his head sagely "I insist you call her Cleo because it annoys the heck out of her." He grins a very sharp toothed grin and unfolds his front paws. "Did that thing hurt either of you? I'm not very delicate but I can clean it if you want." He tilts his head, a comical thing to do for such a big male.Cleopatra snorts "Annoying tom." She hisses her eyes still roaming over his body to check he didn't have any scratches else where. "You'll frighten the poor thing to death you big lummox. I'll check." The blue bird hoppped from his back once more and with her wings open walked over to the little pony. "Does it hurt any where?" She raises both brows, she knew if Caesar wanted to care for this little bird she would help, he always wanted to protect those smaller than him.Magnadearel no problems! Been a long week in work for me too!

Meoquanee acquiesced to watching the fight, but remained ready to flee should the victor decide to come after her. One never knew, and it didn't hurt to be prepared. She glanced at her feline and wondered just how she could be so relaxed. Tanhee had tried to explain it to her once. It's just how cats were. The little microraptor set her feathers quivering as the fight commenced. It was almost over before it had begun.
She was surprised to see the kalona down on the ground under the big cat's paws. And just like that, he'd sent the kalone limping on his way. When he turned back to face her, she wanted to cower afraid he'd pounce on her next. Instead his formidable claws vanished and he laid down. She realized he couldn't make his super long canines disappear, but his relaxed attitude, so like Tahnee's reassured her a bit.
"I-i asked him a question," she mumbled softly. Meo was surprised when the bird rejoined him and started berating him as she checked him over. Surely if that bird could get close, then he wasn't too much of a danger. She blinked as the bird introduced them. Their banter showed they were long familiar with each other, just like Tahnee and her. Slowly she was beginning to like this pair.
She ducked her head embarrassed when the big cat ask if she'd been hurt. "It's nothing...." It would have been frightening for the orange feline to tend her, but instead the bird came over. "He just pulled my tail feathers." She said glancing back as her tail swung into view. It had been smarting since the feathers were ripped out, but she'd had bigger concerns then. Now it throbbed. Meo submitted to having her tail examined. Tahnee approached the male confidently, her tail twitching. "You are gracious to protect us. I thank you for your kind deed. I usually try to keep Meo out of trouble, but somehow she has a knack for finding it." The lion laughed softly. "This is Meoquanee, and I am Tahnee. It's a pleasure to make your acquaintances Caesar and Cleo." Now came the serious matter. "Is there a service we can do for you?" She did like to repay her debts, and they owed a big one to this pair.
Tahnee was curious how they'd come together. She smiled fondly as his bird looked over her bird. What an ironic and hilarious foursome they could make!

Caesar watched as Cleo went over to the little bird. He wanted to pull her close and clean the clearly smarting wound but he had a feeling that the little micro raptors was too frightened of him. It made him a little sad, he'd never hurt something so small and fragile. She reminded him of a little cub in need of protection. Resisting the urge to rise and help he turned his attention on the dark lioness.
Raising a curious brow he tilted his head in question. "We don't need anything Tahnee." He smiles his sharp teeth flashing brightly. "I don't like bullies who pick on little creatures. It's not in my nature to turn a blind eye."Cleo rolls her eyes "you could at least think occasionally." She snips looking over Meos tail carefully, she'd lost some feathers and it would hurt for a few days but she decided it could have been worse. "You're lucky, at least all he got were your feathers he could have taken your whole tail off." She looks at the two cats conversing like it was the most natural thing in the world.
"You should probably clean this for her at some point but it looks okay."Caesar smiles lightly looking at the little pony. 'We were going to get some food, do you what to come? You look like you could do with a good meal."The blue bird shakes her head "I'd just like to reiterate, he doesn't eat birds or kitty's." She sighs "he forgets he can look scary to those smaller than him. Big idiot."Caesar shrugs and smiles at the lioness "you'll learn quickly I'm an idiot." He grins.

Meoquanee nodded at Cleo, "I think.... he was going to do more than that." Her head jerked up. "No! No I mean it's fine. I'm sure it'll be ok." She didn't want his mouth near her tail either! Despite just saving her and all, she'd rather not give him a chance to change his mind about eating her. Meo glanced up at him as he spoke about bully. "It's just survival of the fittest," she murmured softly. The big and strong preyed upon the small and weak. While his sentiments were unusual, he couldn't stop every little act. Tahnee frowned and considered as he mentioned that they didn't need anything at the moment. She didn't like leaving debts unpaid. They tended to come back and bite her. "Well then, it seems we shall have to remain with you until something comes along that we can do for you." Her mind was made up. She'd follow this pair around until the score was settled. Meoquanee would have been happy to call things good and go their own ways, but she knew Tahnee's pride. The big cat had saved them. They needed to do a return favor. She glanced at him in surprise at the mention of food. Was the blue bird trying to make her feel better or lead her into a trap? "Wh-what do you eat if not birds and kitties?" Somehow she didn't think grass was on his menu! Meo had to smile a bit when he called himself an idiot. She was starting to relax.

"Anything bigger than me" The big male nods sagely "or around the same size. I eat a lot of bison. Its a waste of effort capturing things smaller than me that wont satisfy my appetite so I don't bother." He smiles trying to look as friendly as possible to the little bird who was clearly nervous of him. "I won't eat you I promise, I don't like to hurt little fragile things. Little creatures need protecting not eating."
Cleopatra looks up at Caesar and shakes her head, seemed they had adopted a couple of strays. Well she wasnt that surprised really. He was a real soft touch despite his massive size and fearsome looks he loved to protect those smaller than him. She knew why but it wasnt her place to say. "Lets go and eat then." She spreads her wings and take a little running hop landing between Caesars shoulders, closing her claws ever so slightly to grip to his back.
"You owe me nothing. You are both welcome to come along though. I'll protect you." Stretching out his massive forepaws he yawns a wide tongue stretching yawn and slowly gets to his feet. "Come, lets go and hunt some buffalo." He twictches his bob tail and looks down on the big cat and her little birdy companion. The thought of how they matched suddenly hit him and he let out a little chuckle to himself. "Hey Cleo go scout us some good hunting we'll be right behind you."
"I'v told you a thousand times stop shortening my name you massive idiot." The blue raptor spreads her wings wide and using his back as a launching platform dives in to the sky. "Come on then follow me."
The striped cat nods and looks down at the big lioness. "Stay close, just in case that black creature is still about, he might be lunch though if he crosses me again." He grumbles low in is chest and starts to lope after the receding blue bird "Wait up Cleo we cant all fly you know!" He roars sending an echo off the surrounding trees.

Meoquanee wondered that he could find enough food to keep him full. As long as it wasn't her, she shouldn't be complaining. Clearly he had his preferred foods and it wasn't her! She pranced nervously on her claws as the blue bird took off and the orange feline got to his feet. He promised he wouldn't eat me. He promised. Meo chanted to herself silently. Since when had promises other than Tahnee's ever been honored with her? Not many. Tahnee made a soft growl as she finally got fed up with Meo's nervousness. "Relax! He won't hurt us." Immediately she felt bad for snapping at her friend. That nervousness had saved them a time or two. "I'm sorry. You can rest at ease though." She brushed against the feathered leg of her friend with a purr. "C'mon, maybe he'll let snatch a few scraps after he's eaten." If there was one thing that could tempt her friend, it was the promise of food. The microraptor wanted to hang her head as Tahnee scolded her. "No your right. I'm just still jumpy from that big black beast," she murmured. Trying to take a more positive attitude about their new acquaintance she pranced after him. "We're coming Caesar!" Working her little legs, she caught up with him. Meo kept an eye on the blue bird in the sky as she tried to talk to a cat bigger than what she was use to. "So, um, do you have others like you?" Maybe it was best to be prepared for other large cats.

The big cat slowed slightly when he realised his long legged lope was probably difficult for the little bird to keep up with. Shaking his head he looks down on the small female. Little was the only thing he could think and he felt the overwhelming urge to protect her. "No little one, I'm a lone hunter. I have no family to speak of. Well except for Cleo." He pauses for a moment to allow Mel to catch up properly and to bend his head "Don't tell her but she's a bird not a cat." He chuckles and starts to trot again his bob tail flickering happily."I heard that you massive idiot. Don't let him fool you, I know I'm a bird!" She plummets from the sky and lands on his shoulders tweaking one of his ears as she did so. "Go left, there's a small herd, you should be able to pick off one of the big ones."Caesar nods and turns in the direction that the blue bird told him, leaping over the little red raptor as he did so. "Stay behind me while I hunt. Bison can get pretty aggressive especially when they know they are about to be lunch."
Roaming for about a half mile with a few tugs from Cleo about a course direction the big cat eventually crouches down. He holds a paw to his mouth and vanishes off through the trees his movements swift and precise.
The sound of movements, grunting and eventually the roar of the big cat slowly followed by a lot of rushing hooves was soon preceded by the orange striped cat reappearing with a massive bison hanging from his jaws. He drops the beast without a moments thought and settles down to groom his paws and chest ridding is fur of blood that had settled there.
He looks up at his new companions and smiles "Dig in, I'm not that hungry you two look like you could do with some feeding.""You couldn't find anything bigger?" Cleo chuckles hopping over to the beast and pulling away at the hide to get at some of the meat beneath. "Well dig in you to, don't let it go to waste." She snaps pulling at long lengths of fresh meat happily.

Meoquanee hadn't wanted to ask him to slow down, but she was grateful when the pace decreased just a tiny bit. It helped. She looked up at him when he mentioned being a lone hunter. It seemed like such a hard life. Her blue eyes glanced toward her fellow bird. What had brought this pair together? Why hadn't he eaten her? Other than the fact she probably wasn't big enough to fill him up. That didn't explain why they stayed together. Her curiosity was eating at her now.
She laughed at the easy banter between the two and the male's joke that Cleo didn't know she was a bird. If only she could find someone like this. She wanted more than just scraping by and getting chased by everything bigger than herself. If Tahnee had been bigger they wouldn't have had this problem. Not that she'd trade her friend for anything.
The microraptor nodded quickly when told to stay behind him during his hunt. She looked around and found a small hill that should keep her out of the way and allow her to see anything approaching her. She settled down with Tahnee to wait. Meo found herself listening to the sounds almost baffled by them. Luckily she'd heard Tahnee have a successful hunt or she'd of been lost. The roar, that didn't seem nearly as frightening now, and the rush of hooves. In her mind's eye she could see him chasing them. Tahnee easily kept pace with the duo. She was a cat after all. The lion let out a cackle as Caesar joked that Cleo didn't know she was a bird. Her eyes twinkled as she grinned and moved in a bit closer to be heard. "That's alright. Sometimes I worry Meo doesn't know she's a bird since I practically raised her." It had been interesting times when the tiny foal had thought she was a lion like herself.
She settled beside her friend. Happily noting Meo was much more relaxed around the larger cat. Her ears perked as she listened to the sounds of the chase. The lion nodded with approval when Caesar reappeared with his catch. Meo ducked her head in embarrassment as Tahnee revealed a foal-hood folly. Oh it was embarrassing it! But what else could she have thought? It'd taken her quite awhile to figure it out.
She smiled as he reappeared with his prize. "Congrats on your successful hunt!" Despite feeling the cramps in her stomach she made no move toward the fallen prey as he cleaned. She knew way better. Most predators were protective of a kill. She jerked her head in surprise when he invited them to eat. "Oh that's ok. We can wait until you've eaten your fill." When a large predator was sated, they were less likely to give chase when she snuck in to snitch some.
Despite seeing Cleo jump right in, she just couldn't gather her nerve to approach.

Caesar paused in his grooming his tongue still sticking out over his lips. "I bet you were a cute baby." He smiles getting to his paws he walks over to the little micro raptor, getting all the way down to his belly he crawls and pushes her towards the bison ever so gently his nose tipping her forwards. "I caught this for you so you should eat." He rumbles backing up a little so he could continue his grooming though his massive paws still straddled either side of the micro raptor."Caesar, you're going to give the poor girl a heart attack." She rolls her eyes and after swallowing another chunk of meat she alights down on one of his paws and pecks at it until he shifted the appendage beneath his chest. "You know I was frightened of him once. He saved my life from a much, much larger creature than the one he just saw off. It wasn't looking for an easy lunch, it was just killing for the heck of it. Caesar he didn't like that so he saw it off. He pretty much did now what he did back then, brought me food, insisted i ate my fill and told me I could leave when ever I wanted." She looks up at the big cat a smile in those eyes that her jawline couldn't express.
"I realised the big idiot was alone and lonely, and also that he wouldn't eat me." She chuckles "So we've stayed together, this idiot only got bigger and more fierce looking but he's secretly a big push over."Caesar huffs and shakes his head "You make me sound like some kind of hero, I just wanted to do the right thing. That thing that tracked you, he'd killed whole families. Wasn't going to let him carry on. He made a nice lunch any way." He grumbles lifting the paw he had tucked under his chest to groom it carefully.
It seemed to suddenly occur to him to return to a previous topic so he looked to Tahnee "She is your cub? She looks like your cub." He grins a toothy grin and goes back to his grooming "Lionesses come in all shapes and sizes."
