Bloodstone had no reason to celebrate the holidays. There was nothing to celebrate. If anything, his duties as a Negaverse officer kept him going from day to day, night to night. There was a purpose for him, just as there was a purpose for him at the hospital, and that was what kept him going.

He crouched down beside a man in the alley who was either too drunk or drugged up to get out of the cold, drawing out as much energy as possible from his unconscious form, before slipping his hand into the man’s chest to pull out his starseed. It was a weak little thing, but a starseed was a starseed.

For the moment, he ignored the sickening sweet of the powered signature close by. Part of him wondered just how noble and pure these senshi really were in that they wanted nothing more than to help those who’d been hurt, and how many of them just wanted to pick a fight with someone in the Negaverse.

Perhaps the senshi would see it was a fruitless effort and leave. Or maybe they would be one of the stupid ones who underestimated him.

Remus had spent the better part of his evening dusting a youma that had been made to look like a six legged cat with two heads, and now was lying in a glittering blackish heap on the ground, slowly drifting away into the wind. He brushed his hands together, feeling very satisfied with himself, and made a mental note to let Peter know about his latest youma find.

There was a power signature nearby; Remus could feel it, low and dark, curled with blackness, which meant a Negaverse agent. He followed the feel of it, ignoring the little voice in his head that said he should probably just leave it alone, instead continuing on his way, frowning slightly to himself, a gloved hand braced against a brick wall.

It was growing closer; there was an alleyway just up ahead that it seemed to be emanating from, Remus sidling closer and closer until he could peer around it - not that the element of surprise was much help, considering their power signatures made that impossible. Still, caution was important; Sessrumnir would have been proud (maybe).

It was a Negaverse agent, all right. And he was -

"Hey!" Remus barked. "What are you doing? Get away from that guy."

Sure enough, it turned out that this senshi couldn’t quite keep their nose out of anyone else’s business. But was it for the man Bloodstone knelt in front of, or the senshi’s own personal gain? That, he was never sure about.

“Very well,” Bloodstone relented, slipping the starseed and orb of energy into the pockets of his uniform and stood, lifting his hands into the air to show that he was unarmed. He’d collected what he came for and now it was time to return back to Negaspace to turn in his find.

There was a part of him that wondered if he could manage to snatch the starseed of a super senshi to go along with what he’d already collected, but he knew it was best not to get greedy. Greed led to sloppiness, which lead to mistakes, which lead to getting killed. He wasn’t of the mindset to die that night.

He took a step back, away from the soulless body of the man at his feet with the full intention of slipping back into the shadows.

There was something ridiculously disgusting about the Negaverse preying on the weak and homeless. Remus felt his nose wrinkle as he stared at the man, an expression of annoyance on his face as he straightened, the starseed disappearing somewhere into the recesses of his coat.

Damn.

"Hey - !"

The man - lieutenant? His power signature didn't seem quite as strong as his own - was starting to shrink back into the shadows, but Remus wasn't about to let him go so easily, not when he had a starseed in his pocket. He leapt forward, skidding a little on the slushy ground, and yelled "Walk the Moon!" thrusting out his hand and throwing a handful of glittering, silver dust at the man.

Walk the Moon: Remus holds a handful of regolith in his hand and blows it towards his opponent. The regolith acts like a paralyzing agent, but not entirely, slowing them down and making them feel as though they're walking through too many layers. This effect lasts for 20 seconds, and can only be used once per battle. It lasts even less with higher powers than his.

Ah, well… he’d anticipated something like this happening. Senshi tended to meddle more than they should, and Bloodstone should have expected nothing less of this one. And it seemed to be a senshi with stronger magic, too.

No matter. Most of them were not disciplined in any kind of fighting or self-defense.

He wasn’t entirely sure what the magic would be, but the way that the dust fell over him, and his movements suddenly slowed, Bloodstone could only suspect that this was it.

“Impressive,” he said, making the tone of his voice shift so he would at least seem like he was interested in what this senshi could do, trying to move as he normally would, but still finding his limbs heavy and slowed. “You’re quite young. And out here by yourself. You must have great talents in magic and being able to tame the wild youma,” he offered, his expression calm as he watched the senshi draw closer across the slushy ground.

“Tell me. Do you really care for those who make no contribution to society? What if they were murderers or rapists? Would you still fight for them? Are you truly that righteous?” he wondered although his eyes remained carefully empty.

At the very least, Remus had managed to stop the guy from going too far fast. The regolith wouldn't keep him indefinitely, and wouldn't even hold him in place, but it would at least slow his movements enough for Remus to get the jump on him or take the starseed back.

Maybe. He sure hoped so.

Remus came closer, studiously not looking at the silent and still form on the ground, ignoring the crackle of leaflets and trash beneath his feet. The Negaverse agent looked calm, not at all upset or even mildly frustrated, which Remus found both slightly unnerving and a little strange.

"Okay, the quite young comment wasn't necessary," he said, with a roll of his eyes. "I'm not twelve. And you can stop it with the flattery and s**t, I don't believe a word any of you morons say so if you're trying to sweet talk me into something, forget it."

The Negaverse agent's words made Remus' brows rise. He folded his arms across his chest and said, "Are you one of those like, purify the world types?"

Bloodstone remained where he was even as the senshi approached, his expression the same as it had been all along, simply observing and trying to get a feel for what this one was like. He was still having difficulty moving from whatever magic the senshi had used.

“No, you are most certainly not twelve,” he responded, wondering if perhaps this senshi was older than he looked, and if perhaps he’d gotten comments like that in the past about his youthful appearance. “I was just merely observing the way you approach potentially dangerous situations with a confidence I would not expect,” Bloodstone explained, watching as the senshi folded his arms over his chest.

“Purify the world types?” he repeated. “Is that what you think? Or are you having difficulty answering the question I asked you? Would you fight to protect those who do not deserve mercy for the crimes they committed?” he asked again, finding himself curious as to what the senshi’s answer would be.

“As for the type that I am… I will tell you once you answer.”

The magic wasn't permanent; Remus knew he likely only had a few more seconds before things went to hell, but at least he had both his senshi-ness and the fact that his power signature was slightly stronger to his advantage. Neither seemed as though they'd be very good against sheer brute force, however...

Remus lunged forward, grappling in the Negaverse's jacket for the starseed hidden somewhere inside, fingers yanking at fabric and folded arms.

" 'Cause that's not patronzing at all," he said sarcastically, flipping his hair out of his eyes. "What is it with people always underestimating me or being surprised that I don't act like I'm a little kid? I know how to do s**t, and I'm stronger than I look, holy ******** eyebrows rose, Remus not pausing in his search, though he did let out a snort of amusement.

"I'll fight for what's right, none of this convoluted, existential s**t, thanks."

Ah, so the senshi still had enough of his wits about him to realize that the magic was quickly wearing off. And here Bloodstone was hoping that he would be able to keep him distracted long enough to completely forget that he’d used magic at all.

The lunge forward didn’t startle him as much as it probably should, Bloodstone still waiting for the magic to be completely gone before attempting anything. Even if the senshi found the starseed in his jacket, there was still plenty of time and opportunities to leave with what he wanted.

A super senshi’s starseed was worth more than a local drunk.

“Is this what you want?” Bloodstone asked as he pushed passed the senshi’s hand to dig into his own pocket, pulling the glistening starseed out and holding it up at eye level.

And with the senshi so close to him, and hopefully still distracted by the starseed in his hand, it wasn’t much of an effort for Bloodstone to lift his other hand and push it forward against the young man’s chest. His eyes were sharp as he focused his energy towards reaching into the senshi’s chest, taking advantage of their close proximity.

He was not exactly a weakling, but he wasn't built like Sessrumnir or even Sedna. Remus did not have the same sort of physical strength as others, which meant that he had to work with what he did have - namely magic, and a ridiculous sense of stubbornness.

He hadn't found what he was looking for in time; the starseed was in front of him, held sparkling and glittering in the Negaverse agent's hand, and Remus's eyes flicked up to it, narrowing, a look of annoyance flashing across his face.

"Give it back," he growled, and there was a split second in which he was more focused on the starseed than the agent's other hand. He felt the brush of fingertips against his chest and a panic mixed with anger twisted in his stomach, Remus leaping backwards, smacking the man's hand away.

"Uh uh. I'm taken, princess. No one touches the goods."

He was a fast little thing, Bloodstone would give him that. The senshi was shorter than himself by almost half a foot, and while Bloodstone wasn’t very heavily built, he wasn’t as lithe as the senshi. His expression remained the same as before, although there was just a hint of vague disappointment that the senshi realized what was happening just a moment too soon.

“I think not,” he responded and took a step back, glad that enough time seemed to have passed for the magic to fade away. He could move freely again, and while it wasn’t in his nature to run, he also didn’t want to linger.

He clutched the starseed in his hand and turned on his heel, seemingly ignoring the fact that there was a super senshi who had already attacked him still nearby.

“Perhaps it’s not others underestimating you,” he suggested matter-of-factly, “Perhaps you are overestimating yourself.” For someone with such a big mouth, the senshi didn’t seem to have a good grasp on what was happening around him. He’d already slipped up, had been distracted, had been so very close to losing his own starseed. And now Bloodstone would give him one last chance to back off, rather than let his pride and stubbornness be the cause of his death.

His heart was pounding faster than he liked; Remus hadn't realized just how terrifying it was to have your starseed ripped out until he'd seen it happen to Sessrumnir, and felt Harmotome's hand inside of his chest. The last thing he wanted was for anything like that to happen again.

The magic had worn off; he could tell by the way the lieutenant was starting to move, Remus gritting his teeth together, his stance a defensive one, palm outstretched towards the other man. A wave of annoyance crashed through him - because if there was anything that Remus disliked, it was being talked down to.

He was not a child.

"Maybe you should just shut your big fat mouth and give me that starseed," Remus snarled, and lunged, swinging a fist at the other.

The problem with a lot of these senshi and knights and even Negaverse officers was that there was very little formal training when it came to fighting and being able to defend oneself. Magical prowess was one thing, but being able to keep up with the physical demands of a fight was something else.

He could hear the inflection and movement in the senshi’s voice as he snarled lunged forward, Bloodstone only needing a moment to look over his shoulder before twisting out of the way of the senshi’s untrained punch, and followed up with lifting his leg for a high, heavy kick at the senshi’s shoulder, or even his face since he was so short.

But he didn’t stop there.

Since the senshi once again tried to attack him, he had every intention of fighting back. As Bloodstone’s foot hit the ground following the kick, he used the momentum to propel himself forward for a quick jab at the senshi’s stomach, his other hand reaching to grab hold of his capelet, and once more attempted to push the hand he’d used to jab into his chest.

Bloodstone was fully aware that this super senshi might be stronger than the average senshi, but in a fight he was pretty confident in his own abilities.

On some subconscious level, Remus did understand that getting angry over being considered a child was, in fact, childish; but he couldn't quite get that little resentment out of his system, no matter how hard he tried. It was one thing to be considered inadequate or new - but another thing entirely to be thought of as just a simple kid.

Twenty years old, on the cusp of twenty-one, was not a child, no matter what this lieutenant thought. Remus knew enough to know what the world was like; no one could watch someone's starseed being yanked and not know that everything was shot to hell and back.

The foot missed his face - thankfully - but caught his shoulder, spinning Remus around, pain ricocheting through him. He staggered, twisting, and just barely missed the ensuing punch aimed at his stomach, the lieutenant's fingers digging into his cape and yanking him forward.

Remus caught the man's wrist a mere inch before his hand could sink into his chest, gripping so hard his knuckles ********, no," he hissed, and threw his knee up, trying to wrench the lieutenant away.

Bloodstone had to admit; he didn’t expect this super senshi to have as quick of reflexes as he did, his hand being stopped before it could plunge into his chest. It would have been all over then. Instead, he gripped Bloodstone’s wrist with an almost desperate strength.

He could feel the muscles in the senshi’s hand shift as he readied to bring his knee up. Bloodstone almost didn’t have time to react, so he twisted to take the hit to the outside of his thigh, the hand holding tight to the senshi’s cape releasing so he could reach to hook his arm under the bent knee. If he could manage that, it wouldn’t take much effort to flip the senshi over onto his back. He just needed to slide his foot behind the senshi’s grounded one.

If he couldn’t manage to get that tight of a hold, he would just have to push himself forward again to attack.

All the while his expression remained more or less the same, although there might have been a flicker of disappointment in his eyes.
