Quote:
Recently it seems like a strange sort of infestation has overtaken Destiny City: small, white rabbits that are rarely larger than a guinea pig have appeared. They are always pure white, with large eyes and wiggling noses. They are cute and apparently social, however when you least expect it they often bite. It's enough to break skin, but after one bite they run away. The injuries are no big deal--it's the after effects you have to watch out for. These bunnies are too skittish and fast to be kept for pets, but they are considered dangerous--especially for children and small animals! If you see one, what do you do? Call animal control? Attack it? Run away? Just be careful! If you get bitten, the next few days are going to be uncomfortable…

Briar had woken up to find everything coated in a soft carpet of snow. It had been early enough that - apart from a trail of footprints on the sidewalk and the single row of tyre tracks marring the snow on the road - it still looked pretty pristine.

And whilst there was no way that Briar would ever admit to it openly it had begged to be played in. His mum had caught him as he was making his way to the door and even though he was fourteen and not a kid, she had refused to let him go out until he was decked out in a scarf, hat and glove combo to go with his winter coat.

After finally managing to escape the house, Briar had ended up making a beeline to the park, his footprints mixing with the earlier ones on the sidewalk as he pondered on what to do. He had eventually decided on making a snowman and had been in the process of patting snow into place into a mound when he spotted a familiar girl trudging through the snow in the direction of the playground.

"Hey Kirra" he called out as he raised a gloved hand to wave.

Kirra moved through the white world in a happy daze. Snow still remained one of the most improbable, magical things that the Australian child had ever seen in all her ten years. Back home, she had to go to the snow, just like she’d go to the beach, or to the park. In Destiny City, the snow came right up to her door, it practically knocked to come in! Morning cartoons couldn’t compete. Not when she had a real life Arendelle to explore! Every flake and puff was special, and the way it crunched under her winter boots, and the way her nose was tickling with cold. She didn’t even mind having to rug up before leaving the house.

She’d been heading for the play equipment when Briar called her, because she knew the trees would be too slippery-cold to climb. The slide covered in new snow would be perfect. But that could wait, since there were more interesting things they could do together.

“Hey Briar!” she called back, holding up her own be-mittened mitt. “It snowed so much, it’s like on TV!”

Briar already had what looked like the base of a snowman – but he didn’t like her to sing loud when they played together, so she just hummed a little to herself as she kicked her way through the thick drifts over to him, trailing her hand over the taller snowy piles at what would have been the side of the path, if they could have seen the path. The temptation to take off the glove was strong, the snow looked so soft and fluffy, but she knew it was much too cold.

There was a perfectly round white ball laying at the base of a tree, and a mischievous smile pulled at her lips as she approached. Briar wouldn’t mind a little snowball greeting, would he?

She bobbed down to scoop it up, but the snow moved, right out from under her hand.

She hopped backwards with a startled yelp. All she could see was white snow.

“It jumped!”

"It always snows here in winter" Briar said, admitting as he bent down and used gloved hands to scoop up a bit more snow for the mound.

He gave her a small smile "But snow's pretty cool."

The smile faded at Kirra's startled yelp, Briar dumping the snow that he had just scooped up before trudging over in her direction.

His reddish eyes scanned the surroundings as he walked over - but he couldn't see anything either...

Well at least not if you didn't count them, the playground and the snow.

Briar finished crossing the last of the distance between himself and Kirra before asking "Are you okay?"

Kirra crouched down to examine the snowbank more closely while she waited for Briar to make his way over. It looked like she’d missed her one chance for a snowball sneak-attack, she realised. She wasn’t super-upset, though, since the snow all on its own was so interesting, and anyway she should be snowball-fighting monsters not her super-hero partner.

Snow every winter? That seemed like a lot, and she shook her head at such decadence. She didn’t think she would ever get used it. Lucky Briar, though, he must have built soooo many snowmen! She tilted her head to look up at him, wondering if he had any experience with hopping snow.

“Yuh-huh. I’m okay. But does the snow always run away when you touch it?”

Briar frowned slightly at Kirra's query about 'running away' snow, shaking his head slightly as he admitted "No."

He thought about it for a moment before adding "Least not normally" because he hadn't come across any 'running away' snow as Briar - actually he hadn't come across any as Oort either...

Although it seemed like something that would fall more into Oort-type things than Briar-type things - especially if the snow was hiding something.

"Where did you see it?" Briar's reddish eyes were curious beneath his glasses as he asked the question, thinking things over some more before adding.

"'Praps it might be something for superhero mode."

Superhero mode being code for powering up.

Sorry for taking so long with this Loki

Kirra frowned at the misbehaving snowdrift.

“It was right here,” she pointed. “It looked like a snowball, but then- puff!” She balled up her fist, miming the snowball jumping away. She didn’t have a lot of experience with snow, but Briar did. If that wasn’t something snow normally did, then what was up with this snow?

She looked up at Briar, wide-eyed. That was their code! A thrill of excitement ran through her, cutting through the winter cold.

“A monster?” she whispered.

It made sense. With a nod, she got ready to turn into her superhero uniform. If it was evil snow, they would have to dust it. But a little bit of her was still young enough and Disney-obsessed enough to hope it was good snow (and maybe name it Olaf).
