Standing in front of the school he flipped the business card Katarina had given him over in his fingers. He wasn't really looking for a change in position or a new job but the school had caught his eye and there wasn't any reason he couldn't at least look at the campus. There was also always the possibility that a private school like this would be looking for adjunct teachers or wanted a connection with the college so students could do prep classes. He already had a few high school students in his classes at DCU anyway. What would be a few more?
He'd been pondering his options long enough that he was about to get asked if he could stop loitering or suspected he would by the man he spotted coming up toward the doors.
From the other man's clothes he guessed he was a teacher or staff member at the school and that would be his best chance to see inside.
"Excuse me, I assume from the colors of your vest and your bag ... you are a teacher here?"

"Your essays on the benefits and consequences of the National Banned Book List are due this Thursday by end of school day," said Magiore, closing the planner that was sitting on his desk. "Please make sure to have them in. I do not accept late papers unless you have an excellent excuse, and 'I forgot' is not one of them."
A few people sitting in the back row made cringing expressions. One or two looked vaguely amused, and several more just looked like they were ready for the bell to ring already - which it did, a second later, much to the students' relief. There was an immediate loud clatter of chairs being pushed back, backpacks slung over shoulders, and a general chatter of voices as everyone got up.
"See you on Thursday," said Magiore, without bothering to reprimand them for not waiting for his dismissal.
Lunch was a relatively quiet affair; Magiore went off campus to get his food and was on his way back when he heard someone calling to him. Turning slowly, his gaze flickered up and down the pale hair, the curious expression, Magiore raising his brows.
Not one of us, he thought, and then said, "Yes, I am. Can I help you with something, perhaps?"

"I would hope so." He ignored the other man giving him a once over knowing that if the school was at all selective that was just par for the course. "An acquaintance of mine suggested I look into the school here. I am a professor at DCU and have heard quite good things about the academics here." Since he'd spoke with Katrina he'd overheard a few of his colleges speaking about the school. They were either lamenting they or their children couldn't get in or bragging that they did have a child at the school. "I was hoping to speak to someone, an administrator perhaps, so if you could point me in the right direction? Unless you can help me yourself."

The once over was instinctive; Magiore was nothing if not careful of who he associated with, and even more careful of who entered Romano's. There were reasons, of course, and good ones for being wary of the faculty and students of the school, but still.
Durumi would have told him to relax. Magiore's head tilted curiously to the side, long dark hair cascading over his back and one shoulder in thick black curls.
"Well, welcome to Romano's," he said. Someone suggested - a Negaverse agent, perhaps? A hand was extended towards the man, Magiore shifting his food to the other arm so that he could use his right hand. "My name is Magiore Carpenter; I'm afraid the administration is in meetings all day, but I'd glad to assist you in whatever you're looking for. I'm a literature professor here."

He shook the other man's hand easily, grip firm but still polite, before taking his hand back. "Kian Cappello, pleasure to meet you Mr. Carpenter." Literature professor was interesting. The other man didn't quite give off the air of librarian that he was used to from those professors at the university. "Perhaps, if I can't speak to them, you could give me some insight on working here?" A conversation with another professor would at least let him know whether the staff thought it was worth working on the campus. And he might figure out why Katrina had suggested he look into it.

Kian Capello, Magiore thought to himself, making a quiet, mental note of the name. It would prove useful later, he knew, should this go a direction that was beneficial to them both. If someone had pointed this man in the direction of Romano's, perhaps it was a sign or prompting to do more than just show him around the school.
"Of course," said Magiore, offering a polite smile. "I was just about to head to my office for lunch; would you care to join me? It would be more comfortable there, and I can show you some informational brochures and paperwork."

"I would hate to interrupt your lunch too much if you haven't had a chance to eat." He wasn't going to protest too much if Magiore was going to volunteer interrupting his lunch a bit to answer his questions. "Please, lead the way." Since the man had his own office he was either head of the department and therefor one of the best teachers to talk to or the school took better care of their staff than he'd have expected. Either way this meeting would most likely prove useful even if he hadn't come expecting too much on his visit.

Magiore shook his head. "It's of no trouble, I assure you. Please do join me, it's not that far of a walk."
His office was located in the central part of Romano's, nestled within a cluster of other professors, mostly of the fine arts variety with a few math and science teachers scattered about. It wasn't very large, but it was at least comfortable, with a single, glossy cherrywood desk and a nice chair, a few more chairs sitting in front of the desk. A bookshelf behind it loomed tall beside a mini-fridge, crammed full of books to the point of being over stocked.
Magiore gestured to a chair and took his own behind the desk.
"What sort of position were you looking to have, Mr. Capello?"

He took in the scenery as they walked, mapping out the way from the front to Magiore's office so he'd be able to find his way out if he had to. The school looked much like he expected and that was a welcome surprise given some of the schools in the city. The halls were empty as well which meant they did take precaution to not let students go wandering around whenever they pleased. "I am a history professor and I teach an intro to world religions at the university as well since they prefer having people with specific degrees for the more advanced religion classes." He ran a hand along one of the chairs before taking a seat. They were rather comfortable, not something you usually got in this sort of chair.

A dark brow arched as Magiore leaned back in his chair, one leg resting casually over the other, his hands folded together in his lap. In his pristine suit and tie, he looked the very picture of strict adherence to school rules.
"History is always a good subject to teach here," he said with a nod. "It's important. As for religion - well, that's not something normally taught in this curriculum, but I don't see why it couldn't work."
Magiore was silent for a moment, then said, "Why this school, and not the others? Just on the recommendation?"

"Even if one does not believe it is a good subject to learn. There are plenty of things one can learn from how cultures choose to explain things they can't understand with science. And it's fascinating how you can see the effects on a culture as religions come and go." He had at least always found it fascinating while he was traveling and if he thought he'd have time it was a subject he wouldn't have minded studying further. "I looked into the school when it opened and it seemed to offer a much better quality education than the other schools in the area. Closer to a university style education rather than the donation driven curriculum usually found in private schools."

Magiore inclined his head towards the man in a gesture of conceding. "That's very true. I find all knowledge to be important, even if you don't actually believe in anything specific. Learning about religions or about cultures can expand someone's awareness and bring about a better understanding of other people, after all."
He was starting to like this man; he had the exact sort of personality that would do well within the Negaverse, and he seemed composed and respectful - which was always a bonus in a faction that, on more than one occasion, seemed to acquire nonsensical teenagers hell bent on being overly emotional while babysat. Magiore himself preferred otherwise.
His fingers curled together, idly flexing. "That's true as well. We do tend to offer a better education than most places. Our curriculum is strict, perhaps, but we expect a great deal from our students and from our teachers."
Now it became a question of just - how. How was he going to bring about the Negaverse?

"Sometimes it is best for everyone involved for the curriculum to be strict. Some students thrive in that sort of environment and will fail if given studies that are too loose." When he'd started teaching it had been interesting to learn how very different some people could be when they were learning. Adapting to making his classes fit as many learning styles as possible had been an interesting challenge. A smirk crossed his lips after a moment. "And some students ... well they could benefit greatly from proper rules. There is a reason some parents prefer sticking their unruly children somewhere they can't cause problems"

The more that Magiore talked to him, the more he was beginning to think of this man as a good recruit for the Negaverse. He would have to be a part of it in order to become a teacher; it was just a matter of figuring out how to go about it. He had to be delicate, careful; too much and he would look ridiculous, and too little, he could come across as skeevy. It was important to find the right balance.
"Very true," said Magiore, fingers tapping together. "Mr. Capello, I do believe you are an excellent fit for the school. I'm not the one running anything, don't be mistaken; but I do occasionally recruit, as do some of the other teachers, when they find someone who we believe fits within our standards."
There was a pause, and then he asked, very carefully,
"Mr. Capello, are you aware of the goings-on in Destiny City lately?"

"I believe everyone is aware of the 'terrorists' that are running about. Even if I have my doubts to that being what any of them are." He had spent enough time traveling to know that terrorists wasn't the right word. They would be much more demanding if that was the case. The strangers running around now seemed more like they wanted to keep themselves secret rather than cause any real problems. "Outside of that everything else has been rather normal, with the occasional strange happening." He and Katrina had been stuck in that strange snowstorm and no matter how the news went on about flash blizzards he knew it hadn't been normal snow. The way Magiore spoke about it though. "Do you know something else about the goings-on?"
