Samir had made plans tonight, with a very special woman. Or, perhaps, it was more precise to say that Lopezite had made plans, to meet up with Fortuna. Only, powered down. They had teased about it for a while, but finally they'd come to some understanding.
They were to meet each other at the fountain outside of a fairly popular French restaurant. Theoretically it would have been easy; they would have been the only two singles waiting there.
Maybe they should have planned to wear a certain color shirt or have some secret catch phrase, but they'd been so lost in the moment that they parted ways with only a time and place.
So, Samir was sitting on the edge of the fountain, eyeing the clouds as he wondered if the snow was going to fall. There were couples and groups moving around the area, and every now and then he would look down and glance through the crowd, as if he would recognize Fortuna among them.
She wasn't here yet but he'd arrived early. He glanced at his watch; he wasn't in any rush, but he couldn't help but feel a bit anxious. He wanted to meet this girl, wanted to have dinner with her--without having to fight her before or after. Not that he minded, but he felt a certain attraction towards her--one he suspected might blossom better over a proper meal, instead of a warehouse picnic.

Aubrey was getting ready for a date... an Actual date, it had been years since she had been on one and it was a little nerve wracking. Sure she had hung out with Samir a few times, but she couldn't really tell what he wanted, so far they only seemed to be friends, even if she could picture something more. Lopezite however... there had been nothing but sparks since the moment they met, it was crazy that they were planning to meet each other powered down. She had never met someone's civilian form that wasn't a member of her own faction so it was exciting, and terrifying at the same time.
With butterflies in her stomach the whole evening, Aubrey took her time getting ready for her date after she dropped her sisters off at her parents house for their weekend visits, and even seeing her father could not bring down her good mood as she carefully picked out her outfit.
She wore a nod towards her powered form with a red tank top under a sheer grey sweater and black pants tucked into her red laced boots, however it was cold outside so she threw on her light brown leather jacket and a plaid checkered scarf, grabbed her purse and made her way outside. She had considered just powering up and mirror walking there, but her car had been running so well lately she actually enjoyed driving it around.
When she arrived at the square, Aubrey wandered nervously through the crowd, wondering how she would recognize Lopezite, kicking herself for not suggesting some way of noticing each other, or getting a burner phone so that she could have just called to find him... Instead she spotted a different familiar face.
Samir was in the square, she had spotted him from further away as he observed the sky for a moment and Aubrey felt a panic set in. She didn't want him to see her here with a date, she didn't exactly know what they were to each other, but she certainly didn't want to hurt his feelings in any way.
She was about to try to slip away when Samir's gaze traveled through the crowd and she felt their eyes meet, she couldn't run at this point so she walked towards him with a small smile. After all, she was early for her date, there wouldn't be any harm in chatting for a few minutes until Lopezite arrived.
"Hey, crazy seeing you here?" Aubrey commented when she stood in front of him.

Samir's eyes had widened just a bit and he stood up straighter when he'd noticed Aubrey. He found himself walking to meet her, smile easily growing on his features. "Hey, yeah. Good timing," he laughed.
A rush of cold worry flooded his veins; he shared the same concerns she had. He had wanted desperately to meet up with Fortuna but for some reason it suddenly felt like cheating on Aubrey. They were friends, at best, and even that still felt like they were testing the water. There was no denying that he was attracted to her--in the way you could look at someone and know you wanted to crack the shell and learn their every secret. In the way that made you think there might be something more.
Fortuna had a spark that he hadn't felt with anyone but he wasn't foolish enough to think that a large part of that was the freedom of being someone else--and how attracted he was to her. Physically, certainly--if only because he felt like he hadn't gotten to know her.
He had a different sort of connection with Aubrey; he was getting to know Aubrey. Or, at least, trying.
"It's great to see you. I wasn't certain I'd see a friendly face in this whole crowd," he laughed. "This isn't my usual gathering zone, but--you know. Every day's a new day, and you never know what's coming, right? What brings you out here?"
He glanced to the area nearby and suggested, "Shopping?"

An easy smile crossed her lips, just being in Samir's presence was enough to push back thoughts of Lopezite temporarily, she found herself distracted by the gold of his eyes that seemed to sparkle in the light of the setting sun.
"Oh yeah, something like that, I was going to meet a friend for dinner but... I don't really see them anywhere, but this time of the year you always look for gifts." Aubrey shrugged slightly and shifted on her feet., it wasn't a lie even if it wasn't the whole truth, and while she was out she could always window shop for her sisters... Not to mention Jett and Samir.
"But really it's just nice to be out of the house on my own, and I love the cold weather." She glanced up at the sky with a tiny smile. "Especially if it decides to snow."
Aubrey glanced around the square again, wondering how long it would be till Lopezite arrived, and how she would avoid hurting anyone's feelings. She cared about both men, and without any clear definitions of relationships she wasn't sure where the lines were in order to avoid crossing them.

"Oh," Samir nodded, little smile still in place. "I imagine it must be nice to get out. Not that your sisters aren't great! But I figure it's nice to still have your own life. I'm glad to hear you've got plans, though! I hope your friend shows up."
He regretted saying that, worrying suddenly that she might think he was trying to shoo her away.
He quickly added, "I'm waiting for a friend, too. But I haven't heard from them, so," he shrugged. "Service isn't so great in this area. Or, maybe it's just my phone. It always does this when it's crowded, or when a storm's about to roll in. But I arrived a little early, so we'll see."
Samir offered a new smile. "I'm not used to the cold though, so I'm glad to have some company to distract me. To be honest, I'm a little extra bundled. I need lots of warmth," he laughed. "Summer, though! That I can handle!"

"I love them to death, but I guess I need the visitation day, if only to get things done that I can't normally do." like dates, if the other person ever showed up... Where was Lopezite?
"Well, I guess if they don't show up at least I wont be standing out here alone like a fool..." she laughed slightly, wondering if Lopezite had changed his mind about meeting her. "we can be stood up together." She glanced briefly at her watch, it was 5 minutes past their meeting point, and still no sign of him.
"The cold never bothered me, but I grew up in it, I loved snow days, especially when I could ride in it, riding a horse through the woods after a fresh snow was always a super peaceful." She shrugged and smiled at Samir.
"But the bundling up of winter is part of the fun, you get to accessorize your outfits with scarves and boots... Not to mention cuddling for warmth." Aubrey added with a grin.

Samir did his best to casually look around for any single women he didn't recognized. He had imagined a few things, like what Fortuna might have looked like. No one matching his mental description had come by, but he didn't want to seem like he was ignoring Aubrey.
Maybe something had come up with the Dark Mirror Court and she couldn't make it? t's not like she would have had any way of letting him know--and he wasn't going to waste a perfectly good opportunity and blow off company just waiting--hoping--that she was going to show up.
He laughed and nodded. "Well, if it makes you feel any better, I can't imagine better company, even if we are getting stood up. I might second you on bundling up at least--I like staying inside, by the fire. The forge stays nice and warm. Cuddling..."
Though his voice trailed off, he laughed and shook his head. "I haven't had someone to cuddle with. Just, you know. The dogs. And they demand a lot of attention."

Aubrey smiled slightly, "It makes me feel better being with you, I in fact find you company rather enjoyable even if it wasn't what I expected."
and shrugged. "I haven't either to be honest, but I hear its nice... something that makes winter more enjoyable." she responded, brushing her hands against her thighs briskly and glanced around the square, there were several restaurants and even a small skating rink set up where fountains would normally be in summer.
"But at least you have the dogs, the horses used to be great company, but we don't have them anymore and no pets allowed in the apartment makes for lonely cold beds." Aubrey added with a sigh as she leaned against the fountain wall to look up at the sky just as the first couple of flakes of snow began to fall.

Samir's nose wrinkled a bit as he eyed the falling flakes. He clearly wasn't a fan, but he didn't want his disdain to show in front of Aubrey, so instead he just sat up a little straighter and adjusted his coat.
"True, that. I don't know what I'd do without my little animals."
Little, of course, being a slight understatement for some of them.
He wanted to offer, of course, to bring her back to his place for a trial cuddle, but something about that made him think she might not take him seriously.
"Though, I have to ask--I was supposed to meet someone for dinner," he said, glancing at his watch. "What's an appropriate time to wait for someone to show up before you make new plans?"

Aubrey caught the look on Samir's face and it brought a smile to her own, she could understand how people wouldn't like this time of the year but she had always loved the cold and never had a problem staying warm. She was scanning the crowds again when his words caught her attention and Aubrey glanced back at him with a shrug.
Aubrey grinned at him and rested her hand on his shoulder, “I can’t imagine why anyone wouldn’t want to meet up with you, there must have been something really important to keep them away, and maybe they are just running late…” she suggested as she brushed a snowflake off of his shoulder and her eyes met his briefly, she hadn’t intended to spend time with Samir today, but now she was thinking it might be a fortunate turn of events.
"You know, I don't really know what an appropriate waiting time is, I don't have a lot of experience with dating but maybe if we stay in the area your date might show up?" Aubrey offered as she looked around at the little stands that had been set up. "There is a hot chocolate stand over there, maybe you would feel more patient if you were less cold."

Samir nodded, grateful for her suggestion. "Certainly. The same to you, of course! They'd be a fool to pass up an opportunity to spend time with you. And, far better than waiting around a fountain, I rather like the idea of getting some hot chocolate. Would you care to accompany me?" he asked, extending an arm to her.
He would keep his eyes open for Fortuna, still, but it was getting cold--and while he wouldn't mind the hot chocolate, he was equally pleased with the idea of her warmth against his while they walked.

Aubrey grinned at him and took the offered arm and wrapped both of her arms around it, pulling herself close to him, she wasn’t cold at the moment, but it didn’t mean he wasn’t, even this slight contact caused a thrill of excitement to run through her.
“I would love to get some hot chocolate, I hear the stand is pretty good." The pair walked to the stand and Aubrey ordered their hot chocolates and paid for both of them, then handed him one of the cups with a smile and made their way to a little table that was set up near an outdoor heater. She settled into a chair and smiled over at Samir.
"We can wait for a bit and if they still don’t show up then maybe we could get some food or…” she glanced out to where the ice skating rink was set up and then up at Samir with a twinkle in her eye. “Have you ever been ice skating?” She questioned mischievously.

While Samir side-eyed Aubrey for paying for him, he smiled and thanked her all the same. He was grateful for her decision to sit near the heater and nodded at her to show it.
"I think that's a very good idea." He followed her gaze to the skating rink and knew what she was going to ask even before she did.
The truth was, he had not been figure skating, ever. Roller blading, sure, but he was certain that the two were very different.
Slowly, he glanced back at her, and took his time answering by sipping at his hot chocolate. "I have never. I'd ask if it's something you'd recommend, but judging by that expression, I suppose you're already a professional. Why do you ask?"

Aubrey was glad that Samir didn’t argue with her for paying, but after everything he had done for her with her car she wanted to show her appreciation at any opportunity.
“I’m by no means a professional but there was a small pond on the farm that would freeze over on occasion so I do know how to skate, it is a lot of fun, and it’s not like you can fall through the ice here, its almost completely safe, the most you would have to worry about is a scrapped knee.” She then smiled at him. “But I would always try to catch you.” She promised with a grin and reached out and settled her hand over his.
“What do you say? If they aren’t here in ten minutes let me show you how much fun it can be.” Aubrey offered meeting his gaze.

Samir couldn't help but laugh. "You, catch me? If I fall, let me fall. Perhaps the humiliation will be motivation enough to try and keep my balance better in the future! But I suppose," he pondered her offer for a moment and then shrugged.
"If they aren't here within ten minutes, that sounds like an excellent plan."
A part of him was worried about Fortuna--if she really had gotten into trouble or something. She didn't seem the sort to have ditched him deliberately, so something must have come up.
....He'd have to reach out to her and see if she was okay, but all he knew to do was meet at their usual spot, some time after this.
He smiled at Aubrey; seeing her quickly distracted him. "You make me want to try new things. Even if I suspect they'll leave me landing on my backside."
