Ofelia was not sure she should be doing this.

If this was the right time to bare all to Elzo, tell him her dark secrets and hope he would accept them. Maybe there was not a right time, maybe all she could do was expose herself and hope to Cosmos it was not too much for him.

She loved Elzo, she was sure of that, but Castor had shown her that love was not always enough; that sometimes external forces kept people apart. Even if that was the case - she did not want to lie to him, she did not want to hide who she was or the sins she had committed. She was so tired of pretending to be someone she was not.

The game had become so dull.

It had been about a year since Castor had pulled her out of the gutter and now she was returning to it; but first there was a place she wanted Elzo to see, a place she had turned her back on six, seven? Years ago. It had been a lifetime.

Golden eyed looked at the man that walked by her side, her fingers wrapping around his like snakes. “We are almost there, it is just around this corner.” She explained, knowing full well she had been vague when she asked him to meet her. He was a good man, he went along with her crazy schemes and indulged in them. She held his hand tighter. “I love you.” The words were anxious, their destination was approaching.

If they could make it through tonight, they could make it through anything.

The brunette turned the corner first and stopped in her tracks. The house she had grown up in stood just as she left it; with the added addition of old police tape wrapped around the gates.

The old burned out shell of a house was crumbling, black bricks, exposed frames, boarded up windows. Over the years youths had clearly broke in and drawn over the falls, it had probably be used as some kind of crack den. Still, the council couldn't tear it down, the property belonged to someone.

Ofelia had burned it all, turned her old life to ashes when it had become too hard to look at.

If she could not return to it - then she would destroy it. This was her will, this was her rage. “This is where I grew up, home sweet home, I guess?” She nudged him, playfully.

Maybe this was a bad idea.

When he'd been asked if he wanted to see her home, Elzo had agreed faster than he thought. No second guesses, no hesitation, the solid yes that had come forth with a barely contained enthusiasm that in retrospect, signaled just how badly he wanted to be a part of Ofelia's life, to be so trusted by her.
Love, and all it entailed was still terrifying for the man who'd lost it once before, yet even with that sad taste lingering he still craved it's sweetness.

Her words didn't fall on deaf ears, and he smiled. Hands going to brunette hair to tuck a few strands from her face before a gentle kiss was applied to the tip of her nose. "I know."

Little admittances, admissions that they shared something and she was patient even as he was selfish.

That still, between them he was more afraid of commitment than her.

When they arrived at their destination, he didn't expect to see the burned remains, the old police tape, the fact it was near ghostly. This was her past? Money and privilege and-
Her playful nudge tugged at his heart. He grew up a golden child. He'd grown up in gated homes, in money and security and he'd seen in so many how it had crushed and killed.

Elzo grabbed Ofie suddenly, and hard kissed pressed into her mouth with a sudden intensity.
"Mi dispiace bellissima." He whispered it to her, hands stroking over her face and neck.
"I didn't know."

Ofelia near gasped as he grabbed her, taken back by how sudden he kissed her. It near book her breath away.

The whisper tugged at her heart and her hands raised to hold his face gently, she wanted to comfort him, settle whatever storm she had started. “Elzo, Elzo. It’s okay. I-.” She began to explain through the lump in her throat. She was not sure what his reaction would be, but she was not expecting this. “I did it. I mean - I did this.”

It was the first time she ever said it out loud. He was the first person she had ever confessed it to. Tonight was going to be a night of firsts it seemed. “One day the thought of staying here in this house… was scarier than the thought of being on the streets on my own. So I let fire consume it, I burned down every bad memory, everything that tied me to who I was --- Even my name. I used to be called Emillie, once upon a time, in another life.” And before that she went by another name.

Was she playing with fire again? Was this a mistake? Was she letting him too close?

She did not care. She was too tired to care anymore.

She ran her thumbs over his cheeks and rested her forehead against his. “I am making no sense - I know that, I just- I just do not want any more secrets. No more skeletons, no more lies.” She had lied to Castor every day, every moment, she was not going to do the same to Elzo. “I want to show you everything; even the bad things.” Even the things she did not want to admit to.

“So, will you believe me? Even if it sounds impossible?”

He laughed, shaking his head as once more, she soothed him and made his heart ache for her in ways that were born from tenderness.

"No, no. It's alright. I'M alright. Just worried is all." Another peck to her face he pulled away, hand slipping back to find her own, fingers lacing.

He'd worry for her. For them over such small things- even if this wasn't small at all. It was- Christ is was her past and she'd burned it away like it was nothing. Thumb ran over her skin and the man contimplated what she confessed. Arson. The charred remains of life she'd tossed away- and knowing what had in part followed. That she'd been on the streets and that was how he'd found her. How Castor had met and found Ofelia.

"I love you." His turn to say those dangerously emotion bound words, another kiss to her face- this one her forehead.
"And no matter your skeletons, my heart is not so easily changed. I have mine, and one day when I am safe from them-" From Giovanni, Maria, from the men and women overseas who demanded things he could not, would not give them. His legacy, his children would never be tools or pawns for power.

"-I will show you all that I have burned and left for dust." He'd not let anyone who harmed him hurt her. His family was an ocean away, and an ocean away is where he prayed they would remain until death took him in battle or in his bed as he'd sleep.

Smiling, Elzo brought Ofelia close, moving so she's nestle into his open coat. "You just told told me you burned down a mansion and are asking if I would believe you. Babe, I've seen you- You're tough as stone. If you say you did something, I'm not going to question it."

"Please don't worry, not about me." She was resilient; his energy could be better spent in that regard. Ofelia was so used to HAVING to be okay that she rarely stopped to ask herself if she was. Maybe she needed that from Elzo --- even though she was yet to realise it.

She held his hand tight in her own, comforted by his words but not completely trusting in them. It was easy to say your heart would remain unchanged before a trial. "The mansion is the most believable part." She was not as tough as he seemed to think, all this happened because she was weak, because she did not believe in herself or her worth. Because she found it all too easy to fall victim to her anger.

It seemed had skeletons he could not yet expose; but despite that she was still willing to show him hers. Time would reveal all - about both their lives. If this was not the right time for Elzo, she would trust him, but would be sure to remind him of that promise in the future.

"My mother was a very brilliant and very troubled woman Elzo, dad left us when her madness became too much to handle; I remained here and her love for me became obsession and then total dependance and devotion. She never hurt me, she was never unkind, all she ever asked for was total obedience and loyalty; the promise I would never leave. I was her little doll, she would dress me up and pull my strings - and it took me a very long time to realise that was not healthy."

Casandra said sing and Emillie would sing. Cassandra said play the strings until your fingers bled and Emillie would wake up with bandaged hands. Pretty dresses, being put on stage like a trophy, life from the outside was a fairytale. People would tell her what a perfect little girl she was and Emillie depended on that praise, all the time thinking she was perfectly happy - until her mother wasn't.

"I think it was my willingness to submit that got me into trouble, I was approached by a woman one night who saw some kind of potential in me. She sunk her claws in and had the tongue of a snake; she saw a darkness lurking, she exposed it and used it to mould me into her puppet." She moved to rest inside his coat, trying her best not to give away too much, not go a sentence too far - though she was sure even if she said the name Ares, Elzo would see no value in it.

Still, she did not want to get him involved in her court.

Her arms wrapped around his waist as she found warmth, gentle kisses, each one something she did not deserve.

"I did some terrible things, not because I believed in them, but because I was dependent on this new family that had found me. They had changed me from this sweet girl to something unrecognizable; because back then I thought love was only granted when you were useful and stopped the moment you weren't. By the time mom passed away she did not know who I was, I had fallen so far into the clutches of this ‘family’; I did not know who I was anymore really. Broken, scared, questioning everything." The glamour has stolen her from her family, the moment the mirror took her Cassandra fate was sealed, her psyche broken. She was not Emillie anymore, not how the world remembered her.

"Abandonment, loneliness, all consuming rage; they fed the fire. When it burnt out I felt numb, like a blank canvas - and that was preferable to all those other things. I cut ties with my ‘family’ and disappeared overnight, until I was found..." She has talked for what seemed like a lifetime, she should stop, but didn't. "By someone who showed me that you could still be loved when you had nothing at all."

She had not mentioned Castor when recruiting her history of past lovers, he was still am open wound that hurt when touched. But even that she wanted to share with her new partner.

She paused, resting her head on Elzo's chest. The man who knew more about her than anyone else.

For, or rather to his credit, Elzo remained surprisingly quiet through her words. His hands gently running circles on her skin in an effort to establish that he was listening, and he was still attentive. Then- Then his fingers stopped. Her words sent a seed of doubt into the soil of his mind, roots taking hold as it sprouted.

Ofelia talked like she had gotten involved. Taken and swept up by a force that wasn't normal or easy to speak of outside of metaphors and vague allusions. It was only a moment where his fingers dug into her, a squeeze of an emotion akin of fear and-

Castor had found her.
Castor had been the one who would have been the perfect target, trusting, open. He held her and whispered sweet nothings to her when he'd been at his most venerable. He'd played with a fire and if Ofelia had been involved? It would not have been a calculated choice. It would have been a fool's oversight, nothing more. A cautionary tale to make him a martyr. Yet when he'd laid beside her without anything between them, she had not touched his chest, towards his seed, his heart and soul. She'd held him, asking only for a moment of peace and sanctuary.

Elzo held Ofelia in his arms he let her go with a sigh. She was complex as she was mysterious.

She had had a dozen chances, all while being normal in his eyes. If darkness held her soul? It certainly did not hold her heart. She had her own light in whatever darkness had taken her.
That was enough for him.

"Whatever is in your past is in your past. If it haunts you-" He brought her back close, kissing her temple, "-I'll be there to chase it away beside you. You aren't alone anymore."

He could feel his heart crying out, feel the weight of something that made him Castor reaching for her.
He'd not abandon her again.

“I am sure you would, but I would not ask you to. There are forces at work that are really ******** scary, Elzo.” Ophelia could not remember the last time she had been so afraid; she thought that Elzo’s presence would help her face her past with bravery, but in reality all it did was make her realise how afraid she was of losing him. Of anything happening to him because of her folly. Of having to leave another chapter of her life in ash.

She could have wept with how understanding he was being - but she was not the type to weep, and she had already done it in front of him once, what was he doing to her? “I am sorry I am being so vague, you must have been expecting answers, not more questions.” She was a fool, a fool who wanted to tell him everything but knew it was safer to keep him at arm's reach. All she could do was let him in as much as she could - and hope it was enough to ease her guilty conscience. It still felt like she was lying to him. She was not sure that feeling would ever falter.

“Thank you, for always being so wonderful, even when I am being a butt.”

Stop talking he wanted to say. Stop making me think you are part of the war, part of something terrible that I can't protect you, save you from.
Stop talking like you're destined to fight more than you already have.

"Never tell me you're sorry for being you." He looked at her, trying to read her face, to see if anywhere, he could see someone behind the veil of glamor. All he could see was Ofelia. All he could think of was Ofelia.
"You are Ofelia." He spoke, forcing the conviction into his voice.

"And I swear I will give all that I can. You've trusted me this far." A man with two names, who shared a soul and heart. "So I will trust you all the same."

She was Ofelia and she was not. She was as headstrong as Eir and as loyal as Saga, as gentle as Emillie and as fierce as Mjolnir. A ******** of identity. She was not sure who she was, or if she trusted herself. He should not trust her, not really. "Don't look at me like that, it's embarrassing." She blushed, he looked so intense at times.

Elzo must have had such a bright soul, she thought as she rested a hand on his chest. His soul was not twisted and dark like hers, Elzo was good, more so than he gave himself credit for. "We met almost a year ago today, I never expected to be standing here as we are now. Unlikely lovers." She admitted, at the time she thought herself nothing more of a distraction to him.

"Whatever you are ready to show me the ashes you left behind, I will remain standing right here. That is my promise to you." The only gift she could give him, to return his kindness.
