Quote:

Shopping for anything at this time of year can be downright crazy. Stores are filled to the brim and people have broken out into fighting over--what, things? The best deal on jewelry, the newest toy craze. Honestly, no one sane should be out right now.

But, for some reason, here you are. Something out there compelled you to join these crowds--so what is it? Why did you brave this busy time of the year to shop? Are you one of the many looking for that one perfect gift? Or did you just so happen to run out of toilet paper at the same time someone started a major sale? Whatever it is that's got you out--just be careful; those crowds are dangerous!

Christmas was a... touchy subject for Jericho. It wasn't his happiest time of the year growing up, less so after his dad went off the rail and... yeah. Not many reasons for holiday fun and laughter after that.

He was trying though. Years later, he was trying to view the holiday under a... different light. A first step in that? Would probably be to actually put effort into finding gifts for his... parents. That mindset alone was a new one he was trying out, though wasn't at all pushed upon him by his adoptive family.

Though he was beginning to regret his decision to try and be family holiday orientated today of all days. Or at least his decision to not just... order s**t online.

The stores were packed, and by the time he got to one of the malls in the city, he was bristling to see this was no better. Jericho grit his teeth, at least somewhat grateful for his size and mass to push his way through the crowds. He was still debating just what to get them, but having to fight through massive groups of people like this put his patience to the test.

Especially since he was also doing some personal shopping, why....

Someone hit him hard in the side--accidental or not--and the large young man turned with a snarl on his face. "Watch it." Oh was it tempting to leave, and come back as Seraphinite. Drain the lot of them.

Teach them one way to not gather in freaking masses. Didn't people in this city ever learn?

Tom grumbled to himself a bit as he was partly shoved and pushed through the crowd as he tried to make it to the right stores. In a city as big as this, one would think that he could get the giftcards he needed besides the mall! He could have waited until winter break when he flew back with his brother to get the presents, but it would probably be just as crazy there too. And also he had friends he had to buy some stuff for here, so might as well just get it over all at once, right?

Unfortunately being in large crowds was one of the things that Tom didn’t tolerate well. He needed his space and while he didn’t fear such small spaces, it was the gathering of everyone and then people acting greedy, dumb, and mean that drove him over the edge. So he was quite unhappy at the moment.

He wished there was some point in the day that the crowds wouldn’t be as large, but from what he had heard from his friends who lived here, there was no such thing. And so here he was, stuck in the crowd, along with everyone else.

Unfortunately with crowds this large, it was sometimes hard to dodge people and sometimes you were pushed into someone else accidentally. And that’s what happened when he ran into a man. He gave a small “sorry” as he tried to walk away, however the man snarled a threatening, “watch it”. Tom sighed out loud this time. He was not going to put up with this sort of attitude.

Turning around and looking the man square in the eye, he had gained some courage from fighting in the negaverse, even if he wasn’t that good at it still, and said “I said I was sorry. Okay?” Perhaps being in the negaverse wasn’t so good, he would have never done this sort of thing before and it was a really, REALLY dumb idea to do it now.

Usually he would just let it roll off his back, but he was already annoyed at having to be out here among such annoying people that this was setting him off.

All right sorry for taking so long to reply, and sorry if that's not how you were wanting them to meet XP

He'd missed the guy's sorry. Not that it would have likely meant much. Jericho's temper was flaring up, feeling particularly on edge with the insane amount of people out and about--and shoving, and bickering. The hell sort of deals were so good that day, that people were turning into such damn animals?

Not that he could comment. He was there snarling at a guy for bumping into him.

When the offender turned to look at him, Jericho turned his body fully and came to a stop, meeting the gaze directly. He lifted a brow in dismissal at the guy's words, snorting. "And? Move the ******** on then." The guy had hit him, Jericho responded, and if the guy had an issue with the warning to be more aware of the crush of people around him, well then.

Though he held the guy's gaze, Jericho's body began to turn a bit, signaling he was ready to leave the situation. The guy wasn't worth his time, though the teen wasn't against going at it if this guy was stupid enough--at least in Jericho's head--to pick a fight.

Tom looked the guy square in the eye for a bit longer. Come on Tom, you know this isn’t you. It’s just the holiday and how stupid everyone acts in it. Of course you’re going to run into other frustrated people. Don’t take it personally. He thought to himself as he tried to calm down. All of this was just ridiculous and frustrating. If he could have gotten the gift cards online he would have, but for the stores he was going too, he would have had to pay a lot more than to just go and get the cards in-person.

He let out a sigh as he turned his head away from the guy. It seemed that the both of them just wanted to get out of this situation, and probably the mall, as soon as possible and Tom wouldn’t be the one to keep them standing there. “Whatever.” He replied as he turned and stepped away, going towards his destination once more.

Next year I’m just giving everyone cash. He thought as he decided to forget about the guy, it wasn’t worth his time to mull over another holiday jerk in this stupidly-crowded mall where people decided that manners weren’t worth their time.

That's okay! I'm at 500 words so do we want to wrap this up?

A part of him, burnt out and frustrated by the holidays before they'd even begun, had wanted this guy to stand and fight, give Jericho half an excuse to vent in the moment with a fist to the guy's face.

But realistically, he knew that'd do nothing good for him. If he wanted a fight, he needed to go out as Seraphinite, locate thugs or Order, and then he could get a real fight. This? This was just holiday frustrations and stress and needless hassles.

He grit his teeth when the other guy was turning away--it was for the better, he told himself again. Want a fight? Grab the stuff you have to at the stores, leave, power up, then go find a fight. Giving a vague shrug, Jericho turned away fully, not offering any further words of farewell or even a sarcastic holiday cheer.

They'd probably be getting enough of that from exhausted, overworked retail employees that equally needed an out of their situations.

He rubbed at his eyes, wondering once again why he put himself through this--and again kicking himself for not just ordering stuff online ahead of time, to save himself this mess. Happy freaking Holidays, indeed.
