Three does with branching antlers huddle close together, deep in conversation. They've set up at the edge of the clearing, bordered on one side by a serene pool of water. They're surrounded by smooth stones about the size of a kimeti's shoulder scale, and a menagerie of skulls, cleaned about as well as a very intelligent spider can manage.

After a few moments, one of them - the little acha wearing a crown of red leaves - breaks off and catches your eye. "Hello there!" she says, with an acha's knowing smile. "Welcome to our garden of lost things!" It doesn't look much like a garden here, but you decide, for whatever reason, that you'll bite.

The kimeti mare - tall, with an impressive spread of antlers that are littered with spider webs, and too many eyes - steps up for her turn to explain, bringing you to a display of lovingly decorated stones and skulls. "We like to think that experiences, life, pain clings to us, that we cannot shake the things that color every breath we take, but we can. Pain is inevitable; it is a part of life, but that does not mean you should suffer because you continue to hang on to and focus on that pain. This garden, filled with symbols of pain from the past year, made out of bones and memories, reminds us that pain can and should be temporary. We can acknowledge that pain by decorating these skulls - lost, dead things - with symbols of it, transforming that pain into something beautiful." There's a collection of skulls at her side, which she's cleaned out while in her spider form.

The acha chimes in again merrily, pushing a large variety of decorative materials towards you as you talk. "That can be a little daunting, though, so we've also brought some of these smooth rocks for some practice - and maybe to commemorate the smaller things in your life."

The zikwa - and she must be a zikwa, even though she's covered in fur - silent until now, adds serenely, "We'll offer some of these rocks in exchange for helping us document the passing of the year." There's a pile of the festival's painted pebbles sitting daintily at her hooves.

    OOC
This booth will have two activities. You are not required to role-play as long as you complete the task below - however, we'd appreciate and welcome interaction for our kin! Please quote Amorpheous to interact with Last Night (navy legendary kimeti), thyPOPE to interact with Honey Orchid (brown and white acha), or Soldier of Song to interact with Our Hearts Are a Herd (grey zikwa).

    TOKEN OBTAINMENT
Each day, your kin can paint a rock in exchange for one token per day. We've made several rock templates here; pick any of them, or roll a die to choose. Keep in mind that kin don't have fingers and are not especially dextrous, so they won't be able to paint something photorealistic. However, it's your choice whether you pick something symbolic or literal - or whether your kin bothers to follow the prompt at all. Go wild, as long as you don't literally submit the base template! You can decorate with paint or with the sorts of objects you might find around the swamp - lineart edits on these templates are fine. You will not win any art for this, but you will receive one token automatically for every day you participate.

    SKULL ART CONTEST
Before the event closes, draw a design on one of our skull templates that follows the general theme of loss. Your design can be either symbolic or literal, but its meaning should make sense within the swamp. You can use paint (color only) or add objects that might be found around the swamp - bug wings, berries, feathers, shells. Lineart edits are allowed, but the skull base should be recognizable as a skull. Please don't edit the skull into a different type of skull. Tokens are not available from this contest, but three winners will be selected to receive artwork. thyPOPE and Amorpheous are both offering drawings of your kin, and Soldier of Song is offering a 50x50 fullbody pixel of your kin. You may participate in both the art contest and the token claim in the same day, but cannot participate in the art contest more than once.

The zikwa is the one to take your new piece of art and fit it into the garden's display when you're done. "At the end of the festival," she explains, "You should return. We'll float these pains down the river and move on together." She indicates the water next to their booth with a nod, and then returns to her fellows when you've said your good-byes.

I didn't know much about fish at the time, but uh, they don't do well out of water as it turns out. I let it go, but I threw a huge fit because I couldn't keep my fish and have it too..."

Face smudged with paints, Gentle Beauty looks happily at her painted piece dominated with mostly green, darker at the bottom until bright and vibrate at the top, showing a stylized sun in the blue "I figured I'd put the first time I saw a big opening in the trees and saw the sky and sun as a little fawn. I remember thinking how bright it was, and how much darker it made the rest of the swamp look, like a massive dark tunnel lined with trees."

Swallows shifts uncomfortably, somewhat uncertain of himself as he sets the rock down; his ears flatten for a few moments before he tilts his head and whuffs at the air almost sheepishly.

"I ... cannot really paint," he hisses, licking at his teeth before offering an awkward smile. "Sho, I brought ... what sh-shmellsh good. Tashtesh good. I can't put shoundsh on a shtone, but nectar and honey sh-shtick well..."

The buck pauses, thinking a moment before laughing softly. "If it needs a sh-shtory, it ish mine! I can't sh-shee; I can only feel and hear and tashte. Thish ish what ish g-good to me, even if it ish bad for othersh..."

Ochre approached the three antlered kin, her pack sitting a respectful distance away, well behaved as ever. Ochre smiles at them as they explain what their booth is about. Painting. This was totally her thing, she'd been painting since her eyes opened, she'd become very skilled at using all manner of objects to help her apply pigments. Selecting a rock, and some colors, she goes off to create.

Some time later she returns, bringing the rock with her. Setting it down, she explains it's meaning. "The sand side represents the desert sands that birthed me. The darkness represents the despair I felt when the floods separated Mirage and I. In the middle, is the desert Obelisk, I went because Red-Stained Blossom is a dear friend and led it. While there Mirage and I found each other again, so I brightened the darkness."

Smash and Mash had to think for a while. Symbolism was never her strong point- she was a tough Totoma, after all- but she was familiar with loss and regret. Everybody was; loss and regret helped unify all kin, just like joy and triumph. She dipped her nose into red paint, then splotched it with black.

"This," she said, pushing her stone forward, "represents a batch of mash I had lost. I was preparing ingredients for my friends by crushing bugs to add to crushed fruit. I was not careful and a whole bunch of ladybird beetles were in the mix. Ladybirds taste foul and make you sick, so I had to throw the whole batch out. I did not succeed and I let my friends down, so I would like to move on from this mistake."

That was what they wanted, right?

Bellows-the-Storm had found his way to the garden of lost things. He frowned as he dabbed thick white pigment onto a stone, focusing hard on his work. "This stone represents something I did as a child- hunting in the mountains. I would track rabbits like this- they'd leave deep tracks in the snow. There is never snow in the swamp like there was in those hills, and yes, sometimes I do miss it," said Bellows. "It was beautiful and stark; you had to fight it to survive. The winters here are not a test." He paused and thought. "But the rabbits are much fatter."

Half Truth thought about loss and commemoration and what she wanted to remember from this year. It'd been a good year; though the obelisks were a nightmare, she hadn't been alone. She'd had her Rose next to her and her family to return to. For her contribution to the stones, she took a redbird's feather and stuck it to a rock using a smear of last fall's honey. "Like birds on the wing, this stone represents the feeling of leaving the nest... but knowing you'll return to it later."

No one could really be sure whether Wild Green Stones had even tried to follow the prompt. "It's cool," he grinned as he passed it to the zikwa.

Forced Awake did not at all attempt to paint well. "I lost my parents briefly when they visited the plains this year," he said, shrugging. Sure, these does were hot, but it wasn't that worth their apparent morbidity.
