Slievenamon wasn't sure what to consider herself. Would a youmaologist be too presumptuous? She had notebooks, upon notebooks, upon notebooks of information on the myriad of youma infesting Destiny City; all observations on the type and most efficient ways to take them down. Unfortunately, the answer to roughly eighty-percent of those findings was to bash them on the head with her shell flute. In fact, the teen hypothesized that was probably the only way, besides eradicating them permanently with the magic of a royal (which there didn't seem to be much of).

So when this new crop of hippoty-hops started running amok that winter, it was no surprise that Slieve could be found making haste after them. The squire couldn't deny her curiosity; they just had to be a new type of youma, yes? Unfortunately, they were so damn fast she just couldn't get one for study!

Slieve stopped and collapsed to the ground just as one of the snow rabbits she'd been chasing dived into a bush and off to who knows where. Smearing sweat from her brow, the squire said aloud to no one in particular, "By Neptune! Those things are fast!"

"You think," came a holler, and Anakeion Page came dashing into view with a cat carrier under her arm and gardening gloves on her hands. (The gloves had glittery fingertips, for some reason now long lost -- it couldn't have been practical, certainly, but it made the gloves a little more fashionable than they would be ********' goddamn rabbits - carrots don't do anything! Worst Hanukkah gift I ever got." She looked entirely cross about the whole situation. "It doesn't even start 'til Christmas day! What is wrong with this city? Wait, gimme a minute --"

...she had water bottles in the cat carrier, and proceeded to present one to Slievenamon, looking like the cat that got the cream. Aw yiss. Anakeion came prepared.

The holler jolted Slievenamon to her feet, and her mind began to immediately think of the myriad of youma it could be. Holler monkey? Wolf? Toucan? A new kind altogether?!

Yet, it appeared to none of them; simply a page, and the encounter would've been quite disappointing if it wasn't one she had the honor to see awaken. Amending the preparation of Anakeion with a dip of her head, Slieve said after taking a water bottle, "They're everywhere and seem to multiply like, err, rabbits. They'd be cute if children didn't have the delight of playing with them, too." The thought of a toddler getting mauled by a cute snow hare didn't sound too appeasing. "Been a while, though, Anakeion. How's the knight life?"

"I mean," and she shrugged, "damn if it wouldn't make for great clickbait, though. I can see the headlines on the worst gossip rags in the country: Destiny City toddlers MAULED by mysterious lepidoptera - wait, no, that's butterflies. Have we had butterflies? I don't think we've had butterflies." Throughout it all she gestured animatedly, almost faux-paparazzi in her movements, the confusion half-genuine before she moved onto processing and responding to Slievenamon a second later.

"It's cool, 's cool. I haven't really done a lot of fighting? But I'm pretty sure I'd get my a** kicked if I did, so who knows, the universe probably doesn't feel I've earned my weight in uniform upgrades yet." Considering what she was talking about, Anakeion treated it like just a fact of life: birds flew, grass was green, the universe would determine when you were ready for a powerup. She knew her magical girl tropes well enough for that. "Fought this one chick who looked like she was supposed to be a Sexy Russian Musketeer or whatever, but not much besides that."

Slieve snorted during a deep slug from her water bottle. Okay, she had to admit, it would be a sight. Gotta love that raw, inane humor, especially from on the web. Even she'd be inclined to check it out and give it a retweet if she came across the video.

Rolling that topic away with a wind of her shoulders, Slieve stood, and said, "Ah, well, it does take some time. Glad to know you survived your first encounter, though. Most would die being distracted by the sexy." She didn't mean it as a joke, though it sure came off as one. Those short skirts and absolute cleavage even got to her sometimes.

"Anyway, mind helping me round up a few of those buns? Your carrier there would make a great little holding cell to study those things." She said this all the while jotting down a note to get her own in the near future. It bothered her she hadn't the forethought to bring one around with her beforehand.

"If anyone's distracted by the sexy," Anakeion snorted inelegantly, "it better be them, or else I'm wearing boobplate for no reason besides bad cosmic costume design." She wasn't bitter. (She was a little bitter.) "But yeah -- besides that, nothing much...well, except our new bunny infestation? Bunny invasion. Do we gotta call them bunnies? It makes this sound cuter than it is."

It was a very important topic. To someone. Not her, but probably someone.

"I mean, 's why I'm carrying this thing around." She rapped the side with her knuckles. "They're too damn fast for me to grab -- maybe the two of us can scare them into running in? I mean, hell if I know what I'm gonna do with it, I don't think the vet's is a great idea."

"Eh, we don't have to call them bunnies. Dollops of snow, anklebiters... Whatever they are, they are a menace, and should be taken cared of, and studied, as soon as possible."

Clutching her chin between forefinger and thumb, Slieve glanced between the carrier and the bunnies (why was she still calling them bunnies?) off in the distance. Honestly, they really were too cute. It was such a shame they were going to be dusted (snowed?) soon.

Looking to the page now, she said, "That sounds like a plan. After I get a few notes, I can give them a good bash with my flute." To emphasize this, she summoned her weapon and swung it about like a bat. "It'd lessen their numbers by a bit, at least. Look there"—she pointed the flute to a number of the snow hares nestled together in a pile—"if we come running in at opposite ends and chase them here, we should get a few in the carrier. Sound good?"

"Little ******** shitheads, that's what they are," Anakeion swore, kicking a foot through the snow aimlessly. "And how're we gonna explain this to anyone who finds us? It's not what it looks like, we're just killing bunnies? I have a rep t'keep up, yanno." Despite it all, she was grinning, bright-eyed; she ran a hand though her hair (she'd taken the hairband off at some point, finding it more annoying than useful, and now her hair sprang free every which way in a glorious explosion).

"If they're crazy poisonous, you're paying for my hospital bills, 'k? If I felt the cold normally like this I'd have frostbite already." And my nips would be gone, the Page added on silently with a mental prayer to have such things continue to not happen. Nipples, she'd always felt, were an integral part of a young woman's life and body idealization. (No she hadn't. She'd literally never thought that phrase in her life.)

Slieve scratched the back of her neck. "Well, uh, I hadn't really thought that far ahead, ahaha." That was a good point. How would they explain this? Two fantastically-clad individuals beating the ever living heck out of bunnies? No wonder the general populace thought they were terrorists.

She waved a hand at Anakeion next, giving a genuine laugh instead of a sheepish one. "Fine, fine, it's a fair trade. If you're poisoned, I'll take care of your hospital bill. If not, and I find out something good from this, I'll buy you a hot chocolate or something. Let'sa go~"

Then, without provocation, Slieve raced off on her end of the plan with a notable leap in her step. It was nice to have a research assistant.

"Gee," Anakeion deadpanned, "and I wonder why everyone thinks y'all are terrorists if this is what we do every December." The slant of her grin revealed she wasn't entirely serious -- but she was serious enough, really, how had she never noticed all of this bullshittery and magical nonsense in her own damn city? Weird place. She'd have to check old news later. (No she wouldn't, actually, because she'd never done preplanned research in her entire life. She was reasonable with herself when her thoughts went down this duplicitous lane.)

"Hurry the ******** up, Mario," came the stage-whisper, and she raced off to her position to threaten small fluffy animals, content in her capability.

A bubbling brook of giggles streamed from Slieve as she ran ahead. How she managed to expend so much energy as a cheery optimist was questionable in and of itself, but the squire knew how to find the fun in most activities, it seemed.

The snow hares scattered at the incoming charge of both the knights; some breaking off and heading for the bushes while others escaped in the expected directions. Slieve didn't let these buns pass, however; they swiftly met the end of her shell flute and were unceremoniously exploded into puffs of snow before they could wreck havoc in another part of town. Her stomach gave an inch every single time she did, but only an inch.

After she managed to round a few up running toward the carrier, she looked over to Anakeion's handiwork. "How it going on your end?" she cried over to her.

(It was the sort of Meaningful Look that meant 'I will haunt you if I die, if you doubt me I will haunt you twice as hard.' She was a very eloquent young woman.)

"Aside from getting bit, I think I'm fine? I dunno, this isn't exactly something I've had options to put on my resume before."

People were not a means to an end. Slieve had to keep reminding herself of this. They were not.

Oh, but she couldn't help her extreme pleasure of learning Anakeion was bitten. She hid this excitement beneath a look of very concerned concern, but her eyes glittered. As if she were just waiting for the pieces to fall into place.

"Oh, that's terrible!" she cried, rushing over and staring a bit too deeply at the page's hand. When nothing seemed apparent from the bite, she withdrew a step, a tad disappointed. "Ah, it doesn't look too bad. Still, you should put a bandaid on that or something later. It should heal in a few days." She smiled. "One of the benefits of powers, haha."

Slieve than dropped to her haunches and tilted the carrier up, observing the caught snow hares from above. She began jotting things down into a notebook, then stopped mid-sentence to say, "I'm not sure if you're interested in taking a look as well? It seems they're not as interesting as I thought them to be." Slieve sighed. "No different than other youma, it appears. Just made of snow."

"If I go all Ice Queen from this," Anakeion scowled, planting her hands firmly on her hips, "I'm gonna find out your identity and I'm gonna dox you until you pay my medical bills or kill me, whatever's gotta happen, y'know how it is." She did not, in fact, know how it was, and the teasing grin her face slipped into after a few seconds of scowl said exactly as much.

"...seems like they're just very well-packed snowballs, pretty much, far as I can tell. I mean. Aside from the whole 'living and malevolent' part. Unless you're gonna run IQ tests on them somehow, I dunno what else you can really find."

The squire returned the smile, though she did flick a slightly averted glance off to the side in worry. Thanks the deities for the magical glamour!

"Oh, don't worry, Anakeion. Simply nothing will happen, I promise! But"—she tucked the notebook back into the inner pocket of her uniform—"if you do experience anything—anything at all—please contact me. With that said..."

She picked up the crate and dumped out the snow hares, then stepped on the ones that weren't quick enough to get away.

"Here, this is yours. Thank you so much for the help. I didn't find out much, but info is info! I must be off now, ta!" Then the Neptune knight made a bounding leap off to... somewhere. Likely to satiate her curiosity somewhere else.
