- The Humans -

User Image

Government:
Monarchy. Plural actually, each with their own quirks.

Primary Language:
Common Tongue.

Native Lands Data:
This adaptive species has settled just about all areas of the world. What they lack they make up for with their ingenuity, creating new technology or imitating other creatures in their environment to thrive just about anywhere. Their homeland is located in the Snow Fields, far in the North East, and this cold climate has helped them build a strong ability to survive in harsh conditions.

Physiology:
They appear as just about any human would, though certain characteristics may vary depending on location. Average life span is anywhere from 90 -110 years of age and heights can vary from region to region.

Society:
A few small Monarchies spread across the ice-lands of the North and, like any siblings, they bicker on odd things.. But never doubt their willingness to band together in times of strife. Magic is a growing interest to the Human culture and, though still new and feared, they are slowly exploring how the primal force works.

Additional Customs:

Marriage- Depending on Kingdom and social status the act of marriage can vary a great deal, some arranged by those in power for beneficial reasons and others acts of simple affection and loyalty. The later is, though not 'rare' by any means, far less common than the former. In small villages the Elder Women generally oversee match-making to keep things calm, opinions are considered but the final say rests with those in power. In higher classes marriage works more as a bartering and promise system; A rich man could fund a poor inventor's work in exchange for the hand of her daughter in matrimony. There is generally some sort of benefit to each party though, as with many aspects of this society, the party with the most influence and wealth often gets the better part of the deal. Marriage, in any station or situation, is negotiated and approved of by the Matriarch of the family. If a individual has no mother or grandmother to speak for them the duty falls to their next-of-kin female such as elder Aunts, Cousins, or Sisters. If they have no family at all they must rely upon the female elders of their village/home to speak on their behalf, it is greatly frowned upon and at times even rejected for individuals to marry without this tradition being upheld.

Beliefs- Widely ranging from place to place, some still honor the worship of the late Gods where as others have turned to more scientific notions. A undertone of their society is that females are actually held as the scholars and inventors, no doubt due to the long-held beliefs that shaped their culture if individuals are religious or not, and while men are not 'forbidden' from such pursuits it is far more common for them to adhere to military service or physically demanding jobs such as construction and the like. Viewed as the level-headed gender of their people women are often given favor as bankers, religious heads, advisers, and so on. A important note is that all of their royal families do revolve around the males of the family, Kings holding the throne and crown, but one should never underestimate the ever-present female influences such as the Advisers, Priestesses, and the Queen mother herself who has a very strong say in who becomes the next Queen.

The Name- In a world of bartering and favors a man's name has only as much respect and value as his ability to keep his word. Perhaps influenced by the Dwarven culture a bit due to their steady trade with them this social standard is actually quite beneficial to commoners and nobles alike. This is because, when called upon publicly, the individual (if they care about their honor of course) is provoked to defend their good name and honor whatever agreements they have made. A individual's reputation can make or break their businesses, social interactions, and even marriage possibilities.

Adaptive Magic- At this time they are the only species that is able to actively control and learn basic magic.. Constantly exploring and creating new spells to direct and harness the otherwise instinctive or wild force. They can't use species-specific magic native to the other creatures in this world but they can boast a wide range of spells and different types of magic, all dependent on their own energy and experience as they age. There are no prodigies born with the knowledge of everything, all spells and skills take time to learn like any normal human. Examples of this are illusion magics, healing, levitation, teleportation (rare), and even weather manipulation (rare).

Common Foods:
Any safe local sources.

Common Drinks:
Anything from water to wine, with many options in-between.

History:

In the book Histories of the Uthidi: Volume 6 the long-dead author tells of a tragedy falling upon their lands as the earth started to buckle and the sea started to rise. An advanced culture they thought to quell this calamity with their magi-tech and tame the very elements... and in their arrogance and desperation they created something entirely new in this wild world. The first successful Auron Seedling was cultivated in their labs, rushed through testing and quickly put into action. The tree was meant to absorb the rising water and keep it at bay, the mighty roots purposed to weave through the bedrock and stabilize the crumbling foundations of their land. But, as noted in the book's hindsight, it only sped up their fall as the adaptive plant's growth soon dominated what was left of their homeland. They tried cutting it down with their advanced technology and magic; time and again they would wake only to see the damage mending faster than they could inflict it. Generations passed, the world truly seemed at its end, and watching it all like a sentinel was the ever growing Auron tree. In a last cry for survival the peoples of this land took their knowledge of this titan tree and turned it towards a new purpose, making the tree their life raft in the chaos. Nature-weavers, magicians skilled in plant manipulation, set about making the tree hollow inside.. and sure enough they soon created a massive city inside the trunk itself, using living magic to maintain the neat lines and complex halls/rooms so it wouldn't overgrow with time. The last stones of their true isle were brought up and turned into crystals for light, fungus and smaller plants were cultivated in the higher branches of the tree as they created a massive mostly-flat surface like a giant slab of earth being held high above the reach of the mighty waves of Parhest Ocean. Native crops and the last soil of their homeland remain cradled and healthy in this embrace to this very day as rain sustains them and the tree shares its life energy to help them grow, admittedly wild now without hands to tend them yet a paradise to those rare few that find their way to it.

The society lived for many generations here, safe in their tower of nature, until they simply reached fewer and fewer numbers and their population became threatened with extinction. The technologies of their forefathers had long run dry without the excess materials to make them work, the knowledge became 'pointless' then lost entirely in favor of a simpler method of life with magic. Roughly half of these peoples decided to set out, to take their chances in the ships crafted from the Auron's mighty limbs, and with solemn farewells the last of the Uthidi parted ways. The half that remained lived quietly, right to the very last, and their skeletons have long faded to dust as their living city goes on waiting for their presence again. The half that left traveled to the foreign continent to the east and made landfall in a strange land of shape-shifters, a young species they would soon identify as 'Silurin'. Teaching these native peoples their own sciences they mentored their growth and, with their aid, soon moved inland to explore more of this strange environment. Deserts, mountains, forests made of small trees, things they had only found in books before this point and for every new place they would spread the remaining seeds of their Auron tree as memory to those they left behind.. and finally, a land of bitter cold and stunning beauty that none of the other species they had encountered could tame. Laying their hands on the harsh soil they claimed it as their new home, using what was left of their heritage teachings to adapt.. even as their own history and technology was lost to the ages and from memory. On many occasions the Silurins, a elusive species, would step in and aid them when needed.. But 'why' they helped the Humans? Their history was never forgotten by the Silurins nor their debt owed, they repaid the kindness of the 'Traveling Uthidi' by assisting their descendants right up to their own species's 'end' many years later.

In the present day the Humans are only just starting to investigate their magical potential again, their scientific and technological abilities still primitive.. But history, forgotten or no, has proven the might of this species.
