Now that he was here, Nucleo started to soften at the idea of coming to the festival. It had taken a little persuading from the jades but he'd caved in at their shining eyes, never able to resist them for long. He knew he should just be grateful he had friend who cared about him so much. He'd been depressed ever since the disaster at Civisect, only opening his shop on days he felt he could muster up half a smile. They were probably worried about him, so he'd agreed to come in order to reassure them he could still function and act normal.
"Looks like a sweets stand over there. Wanna check it out with me?" The greenblood glanced to the last member of their group, a tealblood. She'd gotten taller since he'd last seen her. Prettier too. Her shyness remained about the same, though, and he was resolved to getting to know her a little better at this festival. The one thing he knew would get her attention was baking, so he offered his hand so they wouldn't get separated in the crowd and starting making his way over.
"Wow, look at all the colors! Seems almost better suited for Bloodfest, huh?" The boy mused aloud as he began to examine a display of crystalline lollipops.
((Btw Nucleo is wearing this to the harvest festival instead of his usual outfit!))

Eilidh had been looking around with her group once she had found them. She was surprised by all the trolls there but then again, she was the shut in growing up. She looked over to nucleo as he spoke to her and took her hand. Her cheeks quickly flushed teal over her freckles. "O-okay." She replied, her pumpbiscuit thudding a bit. She had a crush on the handsome taller troll and here he was holding her hand and offering to spend time with her. How could she not be smiling?
Following the tall greenblood, Eilidh looked to the booth he had mentioned. "Y-yeah. I agree... speaking of bloodfest... I-I... was thinking maybe we could.. have a cafe booth together?" She mentioned, looking away shyly as she blushed again. She then pointed at another sweets booth, trying to change the subject. "What are those? I haven't seen them before."

"A café booth? Hmm..." Nucleo paused, thinking it over. He'd set up a booth to promote his business, The Nightly Grind, and gotten a pretty good amount of customers from it. The only drawback had been when... ergh he didn't really want to think about that right now.
"Maybe! I'll definitely want your help if I do it again next time." The boy admitted, turning to look at what she was pointing at. Eilidh was very soft spoken so it commanded his attention when she showed an interest in something. Examining the booth, he chuckled.
"It's caramel corn! Here, let's get some." The batch looked pretty good actually, Handing over the required beetles, Nucleo bought a bag and opened it to spill a little into her cupped hands. Snagging a piece for himself, he smiled.
"What do ya think?"

Eilidh smiled to Nucleo, "Well... I was thinking... A-are you maybe... looking for more help at your cafe?" She asked, worrying at her lip. "After the horrors from the.. " Eilidh looked down, trailing off a bit with a sad expression. She gripped her own arm as she took a deep breath, "im sorry I haven't been around... I needed space." She explained, "I-I'd like to be closer to you, Amonee and Xavier... and I thinking working with you would be good." She took another deep breath before looking to the Caramel corn he had bought her.
"T-thank you." She said before trying one. A small smile crossed her face, "it's pretty good actually."

"Well..." How could he tell her? Plastering on a smile to mask his inner turmoil, the greenblood averted his gaze by pretending to be very interested in the cotton candy display near them. Nucleo didn't want to clue Eilidh into his nervousness or the fact that he was rarely opening up for business these days. After the incident at Civisect, the barista had been depressed and withdrawn. Truthfully, this festival was his first public outing since.
But he couldn't worry her. Not when she'd made such a face, herself. He needed to be strong and comfort her.
"I'd like that." Nucleo nodded. "Both of them." He reached to pat her head.
"Come by anytime and I'll set you up at the cafe. It'll be good to have a nice girl like you around."

Eilidh smiled to Nucleo, moving to hug him. "Thank you. You're a really good friend. I'm happy we met." She told him, releasing him and looking down to hide her blushing. "I was really worried about you after what happened in Civisect... and Amonee. I was with Xavier..." She explained, "I'm glad you are okay. I wish I was there for you and Xavier after it happened." The tealblood looked and felt guilty.
Slowly she looked up to him again, "You are okay...right?" She asked, suddenly looking worried.

Just the name Civisect caused Nucleo's back to tense, the sound of metal screaming rang out in his mind once more. He did his best not to let it show but it was clear that Nucleo wasn't exactly fine. Friendly and open to everyone when it came to happy things, the greenblood was incredibly private about the negative things in his life. He didn't like to admit when something was wrong.
"It's okay! I'm alright." His voice wavered for a moment but stayed calm and gentle. Still avoiding her eyes, he pretended that everything was normal and he was just looking around the festival. Glancing upwards towards the sky, a colored light caught his attention.
A paper lantern rustled in the breeze.
He swallowed, hard. His throat still felt dry. It seemed anything could easily rattle him these days. Frustrated at being unable to cope as well as he used to, Nucleo took a deep breath.
"Really Eilidh, I'm okay. But I do want to know what happened with you and Xavier." Did he mean regarding Chittentown? Or something else... ?

Eilidh sighed, not wanting to push the other even if she had a hard time believing him. How could he be okay if no one else was? But it wasn't her business, right? The tealbloods eyes drifted to the sky as nucleo's did, admiring the lantern before looking back to him.
"....Xavier and I... a lot happened on Chittentown... I won't lie to you, we were in rough shape after everything went down. We are physically fine now.. but I wouldn't say I'm one hundred percent... and that's okay." She told him, softly touching the green bloods hand. "It's okay to be affected by what happened that day.. I would never judge you for your thoughts or feelings." Eilidh looked down, biting her lip.
"Nucleo... I know we are as close as you are with your other friends.. but I'll always be there for you, okay?" She promised with a smile, taking his hand and lightly tugging him. "...wanna see if we can release a lantern too?"

"I... y-yeah, that would be nice." Nucleo stuttered as she pulled him towards the lanterns. Mulling her words over, the greenblood fell quiet as he followed. Her hand was small and soft. Gentle.
It was dawning on him that he'd mistaken that for weakness.
Watching the tealblood flash him a shy understanding smile, he felt his chest tighten. He hadn't meant to do it, but he'd been thinking of Eilidh as weaker than him due to her needing comfort and smaller presence. Shame washed over him instantly.
How arrogant.
Her words did not pierce his façade; they bruised it. She'd called him out indirectly, kindly letting him continue to behave as he was- letting him keep his pride. Subtle and sweet, she was. As she handed him a lantern to release, he mused upon what to say to her.
"... these lanterns remind me of someone." His voice was low but firm. "There was this girl." Fingers toyed nervously with the edge of the paper.
"I never told her and I probably never will. And... I'll always regret it." He smiled wistfully, lighting the lantern.
"I don't want to make that mistake again." He let go. The light floated away into the night.
"So, I'm sorry about just now. I'll start relying on you." Now that his hands were free, their fingers could lace.

Eilidh held her lantern after handing one to Nucleo. She looked up to him when he began to speak to her. She smiled softly as her chest swelled with happiness. "I'm happy you are comfortable with me... I will always be there for you." She promised, releasing her lantern. "I-I... really respect you, Nucleo. You are an amazing cook and an awesome friend..." she told him, taking his hand and smiling. "Xavier... I love him." She admitted, "and Nucleo... I..." she blushed a bit, pulling out a mooncake decorated with a pink diamond. "I made this for you."
She offered, "even if you don't accept my affections... I still wanted to tell you because friends are honest.. right?" She smiled brightly to him, feeling confident even if she was certain he didn't feel the same... either way, she made an amazing friend who she'd protect till the end.

"You love him?" Nucleo's eyes widened before he felt a smile creep onto his face. The jadeblood was truly a good guy so it wasn't exactly surprising for trolls to develop feelings for him. Nucleo's reaction was more of shock that Eilidh was so confident in her feelings and able to just admit them out loud like that. She was really strong to be able to do that.
Then she pulled out a second surprise, one that truly shocked him. The delicate pink diamond trembled in her hands. His bilesack tensed at the realization of what it implied and how he... didn't really deserve it.
"Eilidh... thank you." The greenblood murmured. He took a deep breath and tried to keep from frowning.
"I appreciate your feelings. And I don't want this to ever dissuade you from sharing them... but I can't accept this mooncake." An evening surrounded by candies and treats- this was supposed to end sweet. Yet here he was, realizing all kinds of bitter things about himself. He'd been so focused on hiding his problems, withdrawing to seem strong that he'd failed to pay attention to the others in his life. He didn't dislike Eilidh, no it was more that he'd failed to really see her for who she was. He couldn't claim to have pale feelings for her until he looked and gave her a real chance.
If she'd let him after this rejection, that was.
"I'm really sorry Eilidh. There's a lot of things I need to figure out first."

A small sad smile crossed eilidhs face as nucleo rejected her feelings. She looked at the cake then to him, hiding the hurt she felt even if she understood. "The cake is still for you, whether you accept my feelings or not... okay?" She told him, touching his hand. "I.. hope someday.... you can return my feelings... until then, I'm happy to be your friend." She sighed before smiling. "Xavier and I made these cakes... well we each made some." She explained, wondering if Xavier's confession ended better than hers. To lighten the mood, the tealblood dabbed her finger into the frosting of the cake then dabbed it onto nucleo's nose. She giggled some, smiling to him. "Well I'll always be here for you... okay!" She promised. Doutei coding ends here for me haha @@ I suck

"T-thank you." Nucleo stuttered, stunned by how well she'd taken it. Even now she was giggling and playing with him, bouncing back already. His nervous expression faded and was replaced with a small smile.
"You're... really incredible. I hope you know that." He reached to dab a little frosting back on her nose. Then a thought occurred to him.
"... did you say Xavier made one too? Like, the same type?" Wait a minute, did she mean? Could it be?
"Is Xavier giving someone a pale cake too?!" The greenblood looked shocked, excited, and worried all at the same time.

Eilidh laughed as Nucleo dabbed frosting on her nose as well, wiping it away and tasting it. She looked to Nucleo as he called her incredible, tilting her head. "Mmm? I think you... are the one that is incredible, Nucleo." She smiled to him, touching his hand to try and be soothing. "I-I wish you'd see that, friend." She gave the greenblood a toothy grin. She was hurting inside, sure but she had already expected this outcome and had prepared emotionally for it. Nucleo was her friend above all even if he didn't feel the same... yet. He hadn't told her no, he just needed to sort himself out.... so it left some hope inside the tealblood. "I-I think so?... I mean... I wasn't watching him." Eilidh explained, "Though... If he did do pale... I'd assume it'd be for Amonee or you." She added, suddenly feeling a bit worried that Xavier would have Nucleo as his Pale... She'd be happy for them but that would hurt more than being declined out right.
