It was, really, a largely slow night. Cordoba had decided to power because Xifeng had suggested her descendant practice, but the page didn't really have training on the mind as she walked, nose in a clipboard from her set at home as she meticulously took down notes about various things -- her wonder's buildings, pathways, areas to investigate -- she had plenty to do rebuilding, even with lights on. The only plants she knew of were in an arboreum, The page sat finally, sketching a basic concept of a building to try figuring out where wiring might be, and seemed zoned out, looking up breifly when it dawned on her. "Hn?"

Caia wasn't trying to be rude; he'd been wandering his own path and let his feet choose the path. He'd been absentminded, barely paying attention--something he should have scolded himself in both civilian and powered form.
He knew better.
He knew better.
Anyone could have snuck up on him--he could have wound up face to face with some Negaverse agent, or some punk thug with a gun to his face.
But he didn't; instead, he had somehow managed to walk his way straight up to a page who seemed distracted with her own things.
Caia's hands were in his pockets and his path seemed to intend to take him right by her, but she happened to look up at the same time he looked over-and he froze.
"Oh," he said, surprised. "--Oh, jeez, I didn't even see you there! Hi, sorry!" He laughed awkwardly and stuck out a hand. "I'm Caia, I'm sorry for just showing up like this. I just, you know, zoned out there. Sorry!" he insisted, as if worried he was interrupting something private.

Cordoba blinked, equally surprised before she smiled, nodding with a soft chuckle. "Oh, that's fine. I wasn't paying much attentiion either. I'm Cordoba, pleased to meet you. What has you distracted?" Carrefully, she began putting the pen and pad away. No sense focusing on her Wonder if someone was present - maybe even needing help.

"All sorts of things," Caia confessed, drawing his hand back and tucking it into a pocket. "Probably nothing really even worth mentioning. I don't know," he shrugged, rocking on his heels. "I...I don't know. I took a trip up to my homeworld and I think I've been a little messed up ever since. Nothing really even happened, I just...I don't know. I'm still trying to make sense of all of it. I had heard that homeworlds had no life, but...I got there, stayed there for maybe half a minute? And then I had to leave. It was just so cold."
He paused and wrung his hands in front of him. "You're... you're a Knight, so I know your homeworld thing is a little different. Have you...been to yours?"

"Cold?" Cordoba repeated, then seemed thoughtful. A blown atmosphere perhaps? Or distance from a star? Qho knew why... Oh, right. "Yeah, I visit mine as much as I can." Cordoba admitted, but she did smile. "It's cold and sort of run down, but I've been working on trying to repair thing. Ancestor is helpful pointing out dangerous things." A dry laugh. Xifeng was -- something else really. Her ancestor tried, truly, but was so vry caught up in the Wonder. "I like it up there. Pretty. It's possible what wiped out the worlds varies though..." Hmmmm...

Caia seemed surprised and shivered again. "I can't imagine wanting to go back to that place. I'd need to bring a heater and eight layers of clothes. It was just," he shivered again. "It was so cold! I couldn't even breathe! And there was just...I don't know, maybe I was panicking, but it felt like there was just this crushing pressure. I can't imagine anyone wanting to leave Earth. It was just scary."
...But apparently all places in deep space weren't like that? And she wanted to go back to hers?
"What, uhm. What is yours like? If I....may ask? And uhm--ancestor? Like...what, your grandfather...lives up there or something?"
He didn't quite seem to have a grasp of whatever it was she had just relayed to him, but he certainly seemed eager to learn.

"A heat source might be good." Cordoba acknowledged, and smiled, nodding. "Maybe bring company with you to help make it less scary." She was thinking, then blinked, and smiled, motioning. "My Wonder? It's a big crystal city. There's lights on, but I think the eectrical system might be having issues. And Xifeng is... Some kind of force ghost?" Was that the right term? "I'm not sure how far apart we are. She's a biiiit singleminded. A lot."

"Bring company?" Caia asked, blinking. "...Can I do that? --I mean, it sounds a little dangerous. I don't want them to freeze to death!" He sighed heavily, half considering the pros and cons of bringing someone with him, and half trying to sort through what else she'd said.
"To be honest, I like how your place sounds much more. I couldn't see anything but darkness and snow. I don't even know if there are ghosts at my place. I don't think they'd even want to hang out there," he sighed. "Oh--but! You can talk to her? --Does that mean, like, ghosts are real?"

"I'm notsure. I think you should. But I'd suggest to them to bnundle up." Cordoba noted. "I managed to take a flashlight with me once, so you might be able to bring that kind of thing." The page grinned, then, she paused, thinking. "So -- wait. You think mine sounds cool?" Pause. "Ghosts seem real I -- er. Could take you if you wanted?"

"If anyone comes up with me--if I ever go up again--I'm not going without a dozen or so layers. It was that cold," he tried to assure.
Even now he seemed to have a chill just thinking about it, and he reached to wrap his arms around himself.
"Are you serious, though?" he asked after a second, tilting his head to look at her. "You...would really do that for me? I do want to go--I think. But. I admit, I'm a little scared. If we go...we can get back, right? And..."
He shifted positions somewhat awkwardly. "The ghosts...they're nice, right? They're not going to possess us or bother us or try to hurt us? ...I'm not a fan of horror movies," he mumbled, face a little red. He had an incredibly overactive imagination and even now was expecting the worst when faced with the unknown.

"Niiiice." Cordoba noted. "But the fact you might take someone up not the cold. It sounds good." At Caia's next question, Cordoba tapped her chin thoughtfully, almost showily before grinning. "Pretty sure we will. Never had issues returning on my own so a 'passenger' should be just fine!... Ghosts? The only one I know of is Xifeng." The page rolled her eyes a bit at her ancestor's name a moment, shrugging. "She's not going to possess or hurt a fly, but she does talk a lot. 'Fix this, fix that!' and it's obnoxious, but she's not - well, she's not mean. Just, you know. Pushy." So very, very pushy. It kind of got grating really, and Cordoba made a face. "There's nothing wrong with not liking horror films."

Caia nodded, clearly taking her answers to heart as he pondered them. "That's...that's sort of neat, though," he finally concluded. His mind was still painting images of grotesque spirits haunting decrepit halls but Cordoba's explanation was somewhat reassuring.
...As long as he wasn't finding ghosts on his homeworld.
A shiver ran down his spine; he couldn't help but be a little squeamish.
"Have you been able to fix anything? I mean, maybe if I was a ghost, I'd want to live in a place that looked good. It's too bad you can't just take a team of construction workers up there or something for a weekend!"

"Well, I'm trying to. The lights are one, but the transport and anything else is pretty much still down. Xifeng thinks we might get the full grid handled." The page sighed. "But I think I'd need stonemasons and an electrician. The buildings aren't made of a normal material, it;s. Pretty, but not easy for me to wrap my mind around. Xifeng is at least happy there's anything at all now. But the work goes on." The page chuckled shakily. "In truth, I'm half-terrified we'll mess up because I'm not exactly a construction worker... Though boy, tell me. A construction team would be brilliant."

"Oh," Caia sighed wistfully. "That must be exciting, though. Having something so important to work towards? ...But, don't worry," he insisted. "If that place has stood for so long without someone around, I think it must be durable. I doubt you could do anything but good for it. But, uhm--I've heard that the Guardian Cats are really good with technology? Maybe they could give you some lessons? Oh--or, maybe you could find one to help you? ...Truthfully, I wish I had more of an excuse to spend time with them. I think they're so neat. When I was a kid, I saw this movie about some talking animal, and it was all I ever wanted."
He laughed, at himself apparently. "Well, not all I ever wanted, but I used to talk to every animal I met, just in case. I'm sort of ashamed to say that I still do it. But it worked out, in the end! Because one of them was a talking cat!"

"I hadn't considered the cats." Cordoba admitted, tapping her chin deep in thought. Her expression was one of deep thought and consideration as she rolled the idea over in her mind. "They might be a good sort to consult. I think I know someone who uses small animals to run wires anyhow, but if they know this stuff... Better than asking Xifeng for a step by step. She gets... Impatient." Highly so, but Cordoba assumed it was a culture or time thing, or both; esoecially both. Still, the page seemed to hum a moment, before blinking. "Well, I could go with you. We can see if there's any equipment able to help heat things up. My wonder's on Mercury anyhow, so I'm lready set for cold weather, so...." Even if she wasn't drenched in fur like most -- a fact she appreciated with her cousin Aiko so loving of animals like foxes. She still kept warm -- likely the material she wore.
