Garand hadn't gone into town intending to get caught up in anything like this, but it had been hard to miss the posters announcing sign-ups while he was restocking on supplies. Between his curiosity and Pan's immediate encouragement of the idea, there'd really been no other choice but to find the table and sign his name onto a team. No one knew the desert like him and Pan, and it was admittedly exciting to think about sharing that information with a team to work towards a goal together. Aside from help from Pan, he hadn't ever really had that.
But now wasn't the time to be thinking about that, because there was the starting horn! Lifting a hand to wave to the defensive team, Garand dashed out into the brush land, Pan's excited chattering in his ear. The other attackers were splitting off to cover more ground, but he figured there was better odds on sticking together as much as possible, so instead of going his own way, he trailed after one of the others, a blueblood. He'd caught his name in the planning, but they hadn't spoken. Still, teamwork and all that.
When Static slowed, Garand caught up to him easily. "Hey," While he gave an easy-going smile, Pan shifted from one shoulder to the other, as if trying to get a better look at the other blueblood. "I've got a good idea where they might have set up base." He lifted a hand to point out in a certain direction. "We should check it together."
Micillia I rolled a coin and same team won, haha

Oh good, Static didn't have a problem with the idea. Back when they'd all been making plans on who would be on offense or defense, all the trolls had seemed so eager to get their ideas in that a lot of them had practically talked over each other. Nodding appreciatively, Garand crouched and began to draw in the sand with one gloved finger. "So out in that direction, there's a line a brush like this, and a dune over here that's kind of like this." A quick jagged line bordered by a swishy curved one, and then right in the middle he drew a quick square.
"There's a ruin there, of an old hive. Only a couple of walls left, really, but I bet they found it when they were setting up." He glanced to his lusus, who nodded and began squeaking out his agreement with an added tangent on a burrow he'd had near that hive once, then back up at the blueblood. "What do you think?"

"We live here," Garand explained matter of factly, waiting patiently for Static's opinion. As the other blue blood spoke, he lowered a finger back to the sand and drew another line intersecting the first jagged one. "Sneak through here, hm?" He tilted his head and thought about it, and about the trouble of the dune. How would they get in without being seen? No matter how he went through it in his head, the only possible answer was...
"We won't." Swiping a hand over his drawing to erase it, he stood. "Any way we go in, they'll probably see us, unless they didn't leave anyone on guard."

"Garand Luceid," he returned, briefly offering his hand for a shake. "We should be able to see from the brushline, get a quick idea of where to go from there." Pan squeaked something, lifting a paw into the air, and Garand nodded again. "Pan can help scout closer in if we need him to." That out of the way, he turned to carefully lead the way further into the territory he'd described. He motioned for Static to slow once they came closer to where he remembered the old ruin being, and crept forward into the brush until he had a good view of it.
"....I count at least two," he murmured after a long moment. It wasn't possible to see the entire area, but at least one of the standing walls was within view. There was a redblood patrolling along outside it, and on occasion a flash of orange that might have been someone's horn peeking out around the edge. "Any ideas, Static?"

Garand leaned over to get a look into the bag and then paused, staring at what could only be some kind of bomb. He glanced to the side, where Pan was also staring, and then looked back, blinking slowly as if he couldn't quite believe it. "These are bombs," he said finally, flat voice picking up with a note of wonder at the end. Did the other blueblood always run around with them in his bag, or was this some catch the flag precedent he wasn't caught up with? Either way...
"Alright," He and his lusus both nodded to Static. "Let's see it." He wasn't sure what the boy meant about detonating from here (were they set up with a remote somehow?), but he was curious now.

Static nodded enthusiastically as the other blueblood pointed out what he had in his bag. The blueblood took out a roll of twine, and gave Garand one end. It had copper and string twisted together, so if the electric shock failed somewhere, hopefully the string would light with the heat and set the explosion. "Uh," Static mumbled, now embarrassed at his primitive design. "Its, uh its still in the works... I mean, i should work, but, well, i guess we will see." The blueblood boy laughed weakly, he really wanted his plan to work, to impress this other mature, confident kid. Garand seemed like he really knew what he was doing.
With that Static crawled around to the other side of the ruins, unraveling the twine as he went. The boy looked around in the dunes, finally finding a bush that was big enough to hide the distraction, but not catch on fire should something bad come their way. It took the blueblood just a few minutes to set the smoke bombs up. He added a sealed container as well. If it got hot enough it would explode with a loud noise. Finally satisfied, the blueblood weaved his way back to the other blueblood.

"You're not sure?" Garand glanced back down at the bombs, a little concerned that Static didn't seem confident that they'd work as planned. On the hand, they'd made it this far in his bag so they were probably stable. On the other, it would be an understatement to say it would be bad if they went off before Static had finished setting them. The other blueblood was already making his way off, though, so he just nodded and held tight to his end of the twine. Maybe he'd ask about the design of the things, after seeing how well they worked out.
He watched Static's progress, resisting the urge to call out a warning every time one of the other team seemed close to noticing him, and was more than a little pleased when the boy made it back completely unseen. Giving an approving smile, he handed the twine back over. "How are you going to get a charge to it?"

Static grinned proudly on his return, and got into place beside the other blueblood. The boy took off a shoe and shook it upside down. He had a habit of not tying them, and rocks seemed to like making their home in his foot protection. Static paused mid way through emptying his second shoe when the blueblood asked how they would detonate them. "Oh!" Static looked with bright excited eyes. He liked showing his power in meaningful ways, so long as they didn't make a big deal of it. Static smiled meekly, "I, uh, i can do this." Static pointed his two index fingers at each other and let loose a small spark, which zapped from one finger to the next. "It can, um, usually travel along that twine pretty well. Its got a little copper woven in, and, i think i didn't um, mess it up too much setting the, the distractions."
KitsuneAura we are at 13/15!! woo nice job!

Garand wasn't sure exactly what he'd expected the answer to be, but Static being able to make a spark at will was definitely not something that had been on the list of possibilities. He jumped slightly and leaned back away from the blueblood's hand on reflex, but once he'd had a second or two to compute what had just happened, he leaned right back in with interest. He'd never met a troll with a power before, although if he was being fair that could be marked up mostly to the fact that he hadn't met many trolls in general.
"That's impressive." He said decisively. It was a simple statement, as far as praise went, and he hadn't put too much emphasis into it, but it was clear he meant it. He couldn't count how many ways an ability like that would be useful. "Alright then. When you're ready to give the twine a spark, we can set it and start running." He followed the path of the twine, thinking, then gave another nod. "If we time it right, we should have a good window of time."
