User Image It had been a rather tolerant Captain that had accepted his request. After several very 'eloquent' speeches, Tethys had successfully managed to persuade one of the more senior lions within the pride to allow him to participate in one of their Vikings. It hadn't been the most dignified way to start out, but it had certainly be the quickest and he had found himself far from his new home in search of treasure.

Under orders to split up, spread out, and locate something of interest, he now found himself in a very interesting position. Poised over the edge of a sink hole, he gazed down with renewed interest at the lioness that was pacing back and forth within. The walls were simply too slick and steep for her to get up on her own again, and if she weren't careful, she had the potential to fall even further down. All things considered she was in a rather bad situation.

...Bad enough that she hadn't even seen him yet.

"You appear to be stuck," he observed at last, taking a seat and lifting a paw to itch at his chin thoughtfully. His words seemed to fall on deaf ears at this and as she paced more he rolled his eyes.

"I know how this ends. You keep walking in a circle like that and you'll fall straight down to hell," he called out and raised both brows. "However if that's what you want then take four steps back into the epicenter of the sink hole, it will compromise the integrity of it and allow you to end things much more quickly."

She hadn't even seen it - there had been no indication that the ground beneath her was so weak that it would collapse the moment her paws touched the soil. She had screamed at first, but no one had heard her... Then she had tried jumping up, only to find that the soil was so slippery and weak that it had crumbled beneath her. She honestly had no idea how long she had been down here, she'd definitely been here for longer than a day...but whatever the length of time might have been, it had started to take its toll.

She was tired, and she could do nothing more than pace like a caged beast. It would have been better for her to accept her fate, simply curl up, close her eyes and let death finally come to her but that would still be a slow and agonising protest.

Perhaps falling into the pits of hell would be preferable...

Wait, what?

The lioness cast her gaze upwards to the voice and squinted, against the sun their sat a pale lion who had a peculiar expression upon his face. He didn't seem to be making fun of her, but nor did he seem to be terribly impressed by what he saw either.

"If you're here to gloat then go away, I'd sooner die in peace!"

"Charming," Tethys drawled and rolled his eyes. Why were all the lionesses he ever met so up their own asses? At this point he wasn't entirely sure he would define it as 'strength', so much as brattiness. Even in the face of death she was determined to spout nonsense at him - all in all, she'd probably get on with his sister quite well - they certainly had complimentary mindsets anyway...

"I wasn't really here to gloat actually," he waved his paw and motioned behind him. "I was just passing through when I heard your pacing and my curiosity was piqued," he paused for good measure, peered down at the ledge he was sat on and sighed dolefully. "And here I was, about to offer some assistance with your predicament," he clucked his tongue delicately and sat back again.

Affording her a smirk, he knew more than most that females were inclined to lash out when they were under pressure. That being said, she could still decline his assistance, some were simply that stubborn.

"Then again, if I help you then you would owe me your life and a strong and independent female such as yourself couldn't be having that, could they?"

"Excuse me?" She ceased in her pacing and cast her gaze towards him, eyes hardening as she watched his otherwise blase body language. Whether he said so or not, there was something in his tone that indicated he was enjoying this. However, that was how they all were, that's how they had always been - accursed males and the pleasure they derived from being in a more powerful position. This one was the same as the rest, he lorded over his offer to 'help' her but in exchange she would 'owe' him.

Hmph.

"I know your type, you have no honour - " she looked away and began to pace again. Pride prevented her from rising to his bait, or rather it would have, had it not been for the fact that the ground beneath her did give way a little more as she took a few more steps; just as he had warned her... She sucked in a frightened breath and with her ears pressed firmly to the top of her head she scrambled for safer ground, clawing for a shelf of mud that hadn't yet given way.

So much for her strength, in mere seconds she had reverted to a wide eyed, and rather frightened feline...

Tethys had seen that coming a mile off and as she had begun to pace he had already wandered off to locate something to spare the female from her unfortunate demise. For this reason she had been left in silence, alone to her 'fate' for twenty or so minutes - he did eventually come back, and it was with an exasperated sigh that he threw the vine he had located down into the sink hole. It was to land squarely in front of her nose...

That done, he took the other side and walked round the dead tree, snaring it around the trunk so that he had the additional support to pull her up.

"You're as big of an idiot as my bloody sister," he muttered. "Grab on and start climbing dumbass," he ordered. Locking his legs, he picked up the vine in his mouth and held it taut, it wouldn't budge while he had it...such were the benefits of being a godborn, the size paid off every now and then!

His insults were largely ignored, as soon as the vine entered her sight she leapt for it. Grappling it with her jaws, she began to claw her way up the slippery slope and eventually managed to scrambled up from the sinkhole. Covered from head to toe in mud, the lioness let out a relieved wail and promptly slumped to the ground - both physically and mentally exhausted, she didn't even give the lion much thought.

Suffice to say, Tethys got to observe another kiss the ground in relief.

Nevertheless, when she had eventually regathered her wits, she turned her gaze abruptly to him and narrowed her eyes. He may not have said anything, but there was something about him that seemed to indicate he definitely wasn't impressed by what he had seen. What was it he had said before? Something to do with his sister...

"So apparently you do have some honour."

"Depends on your definition of honour," he said bluntly and strode towards her. He checked her for injuries, but save for some bruises and broken claws, she was mostly in one piece. "You see where I come from there's something called gratitude, but there's also a concept of owing me," he nudged at her hind leg and motioned for her to get up.

"Your life is mine until such times as you happen to save it," he didn't seem to be threatening, but there was something in his eyes that indicated he would happily throw her back in to the pit if she gave him any further lip. Honestly, Tethys didn't care how lippy she chose to be after he had thrown her at his sister as an 'I told you so'.

"Now move before this sink hole gets any bigger," he muttered. He knew all too well of the dangers, he had watched from a distance as one had swallowed up an entire pride unexpectedly. His father hadn't permitted either he or his sister to get involved and while they hadn't originally understood why, it had only when the sinkhole gave way more that he had realised.

...There was no way to tell how much more the sinkhole had to collapse before it settled again and he had no intention of trying to find out.

"On the plus side there aren't any of those things where we're going so you won't end up at the bottom of hell just yet."
