 Bored. Kintsugi was rarely bored, but on a rather warm Autumn day, she found herself sitting on her own and gazing quietly out over the streets that curved away from the more wild lands of the park, listless. Her parents were...well, living their separate lives, her siblings were busy with their own things, and her friends all seem caught up in the hustle and bustle of preparing for the holidays. She felt very apart from it all -- sure, her family would still gather, but they were less conventional about it and didn't take nearly as much time to do prep as others did. So there she was, in the interim, bored. " There's nothing to do," she lamented to a small dust devil of leaves that petered out. Even that was too bored to be bothered! Such was her luck.

 Another day, the same disappointing routine. Still not able to catch a darn thing, the yellow odd tailed colt came to a slow trot with a scrunched up look on his face. So many critters still ran from him. Sometimes he was even positive he had managed to hit the thing yet still it never seemed to capture itself into the capsules. What was he doing wrong??
Sighing heavily, he allowed his hooves to carry him wherever they felt like...
... which happened to lead him to a rather bored looking blue filly. Perking his ears forward, he caught the tail end of her sentence and tilted his head. "Hey............. wanna go on an adventure?!" he blurted out, not even thinking. A grin now spread its way across his muzzle as his bolt shape tailed bobbed behind him like a happy pup.

The filly let out a small ' eep!' of surprise as she was addressed, turning around with wide eyes and her tail nearly fluffed out with the warring emotions of shock and embarrassment at being heard. It was a sprightly boy that was all sharp edges and vibrating energy, the likes of which somehow seemed to otherwise soothe her own rankled thoughts into something more in tandem with his. Eagerness. And perhaps, excitement? Kintsugi offered a slow, tentative smile in return. " I could use an adventure," she said slowly, even as the smile began to mirror the other's into a somewhat cheeky grin.

After hearing her agree, Shockstar nearly jumped in excitement.
He was absolutely bursting with energy, more than he usually was and he wanted someone to exert it with!
"Perfect! Oh man you wont be disappointed, promise. I know this great spot!" he said with extra enthusiasm as he waved a hoof at her to follow along. He took a few steps forward before turning around, waddling awkwardly backwards to make sure she was following him.
"There's going to be so much stuff to do, to explore, to find.... maybe capture." he beamed, his smile couldn't spread much farther else his cheeks might split.

The other's enthusiasm was infectious, and even not knowing who this kid was or what they were going to get up to, Kintsugi's curiosity won out. " Do you -- adventure a lot?" she asked, trotting to follow behind, and eventually, alongside. He was spunky and seemed a bit more driven than most that she knew; that alone was some strange sort of thrill. " And w--what are we going to catch?"

She was interested!
Perfect!
"All sorts of things! Flying monsters, ground monsters, it just depends what's around in the area!" he beamed, tugging a bit on his saddlebag straps before finally stopping his awkward backwards waddling.
He led her down the street and around the corner, stopping at a cross walk impatiently waiting for the sign to turn green before bolting into the familiar green grassy territory with a huge grin and a spring in his step.
Until his spring fell flat and his grin turned itself upside down.
Today the park seemed to be full of old ponies. Like really old ponies. All wearing annoyingly bright unitards and doing.....something... he couldn't quite tell. It looked like they were practicing dying or something. "Uh....."
he blinked, not able to believe what he was seeing.

" That just -- exists around here?" Kintsugi didn't sound nearly dubious so much as surprised, chasing after the yellow Phony and feeding off his energy, getting a twinge impatient with her own excitement. She galloped after him to this special place, wondering what amazing things would be waiting for them -- And they came to a complete stop. Kintsugi squeaked and bounded over his flank, landing next to his side and looking at him with alarm. Her gaze shifted then to what he was staring at, her own expression mirroring his. What the what??" Um," she glanced between the spectacle and the foal, trying to think of how to steer things back on track. " W-well -- they look too easy to catch. I'm sure we can find something elsewhere!" She beamed a smile at him. She could fix this! They both could. Tossing her head to the side, she turned in a complete circle, indicating she was still ready to go. " Time to find a new spot!"

It took several moments for him to pick his jaw up off the ground after watching some granny pony shake what nature definitely didn't give her. Squinting his eyes shut he concentrated back on his new friend and shook his head. "Right! That's ok, I know a few other places!" he nodded, totally sure this next place would work out.
It was a bit of a gallop to the fountain square from the park but at least it wouldn't be full of oldies trying to drown on land.
He hoped.
Coming to a stop he took several breaths and waited for Kintsugi to catch up before taking any further steps. "There should be some flying type monsters here too, though...not as many but...still..." he said, licking his lips and taking in a huge breath before peering around the decorative shrubbery.
He expected to see the usual bird or two bathing in the top of the fountain but instead he came nose to nose wit a tiny set of bright green eyes. Frozen for a moment, it took a while to process what was going on...

The blue filly crept up behind the other, and peeking over his withers, she saw... ...birds fighting? One of them dove near them and then soared upwards again, but only so high, it's bow-tied tail fluttering behind it. Kintsugi blinked in shock before she realized it was a kite -- a lot of kites. The sky was practically blotted out! Every square inch of the fountain area was covered in Phony families -- barbecuing, picnicking, and playing some sort of ball-throw that looked like it would end badly for anyone that didn't have a unicorn horn (and maybe even badly for them if they speared it). She sighed deeply, ears pinned back over the shouts of joy and laughter over family meals. What was it, some sort of holiday for old people and boring families? Ugh. Kintsugi looked to the yellow foal and nudged him with her side. " Got any other cool areas we can try?" she quipped hopefully. Fea Line Go!...and fail. Plan...C?

A loud cry blurted from the yellow colts mouth when the tinier foal burst from the bushes making a whole bunch of ruckus. Shockstar fell backwards dismayed. He couldn't believe his second spot was infiltrated and there was no monsters in sight to capture anywhere.
"What is going on today?!" he groaned, pressing his hooves to his temples. He had momentarily forgot Kintsugi was right there in his frustration until she gently nudged his side. Turning towards her he offered her a very apologetic face and a brief explanation. "No one is ever here or at the park in volumes like this...." he groaned again before taking a deep breath.
Yes, another place. A place he was sure he'd be able to show her some of the creatures she and himself could capture even if other phonies or people seemed to be there. "Ok! Its a bit of a run but we can make it in time. This way!" he shouted triumphantly once more and began to lead her towards the beach. He took off at a quick pace, slowing only to check she was still keeping up with him. Once he arrived to the beach he skidded to a halt in the sad triumphantly, chest out proud. His eyes closed he took a moment to catch his breath.
And yet when he opened them he saw..... nothing.
No ponies, no people, no families. But also no creatures. Just a bunch of.... nothing besides sand and waves and the occasional shell that only just hinted at a creature that might have been but evolved and now explored deeper waters. Not even a single seagull! "WHAT?!!??!!" he shouted, ears straining to hear the familiar calls but all he could hear was distant laughter and music from the amusement park on the far far side. What did all the gulls migrate over for popcorn and cotton candy?!?!?!?!!! They didn't leave even a single straggler today???
Slinking into the dirt the yellow colt began to cry though he attempted to cover it up with his hooves.
Chrystali Plan C please don't disappoiiinnnaaahh it did...

The filly lifted her ears and perked up when the foal regained the wind in his sails, smiling brightly and nodding in encouragement. " After you!" she chimed happily, turning pale tail and following after him at a pace she wasn't accustomed to, but she couldn't let him down now...! Skidding into the beach, Kintsugi was prepared to observe the wonders that had been promised, and her eyes sought all things...and then anything at all...and was just as dumbstruck as her partner in crime to find there was nothing. Nothing at all. Not even a billowing piece of trash. What in the heckles? The boy sat down and hid his face, and she didn't have to see his tears to see the way his withers shuddered under his muted sobs. She exhaled softly, feeling both disappointed and guilty -- she was the reason he was in this state, after all. She glanced towards the amusement park, not that far off, and she knew her friends would be playing there. Maybe she could go join them, and spend the rest of the day with the rides and snacks and -- Even as she thought that, her eyes drifted back to the colt that seemed so dejected and deflated. No...she knew she couldn't just leave him. Sure, she might have fun with the other Phonies, but he'd promised her an adventure and she'd agreed to it...and even if they didn't catch monsters, they did live up to his promise... Drawing in a short breath, she trotted over to the yellow male and sat down daintily next to him, resting her head over the back of his neck. " I'm kinda glad there's nothing here to catch," she tried to cheer him up and stay honest at the same time, " that was a heck of an adventure! I'm beat!" Sighing, this time with contentment, she lifted her head and looked out over the beach, peaceful as the sun set a pattern of jewels out over the distant breaking waves. " Thanks for such a fun day! I'm Kintsugi, and maybe when there's less Phonies around...we can go hunt your beasts." He'd kept his end of the bargain. The least she could do was show him friendship and loyalty for his efforts.

Shockstar wiped away a tear and sniffled, trying not to move as the filly rested her head over his neck. Not out of fear but out of not wanting to disturb her. "Your....your not mad at me then?" he sniffled again. He rubbed his nose this time and sighed. He was mad, though at himself. But she was still there with him after all this time and all three failures.
"You are?!" his ears perked up as he turned his head to gaze at her. A small smile formed across his muzzle and he laughed stupidly though still a bit sniffly. "T-thanks for sticking with me. I'm glad you found it adventurous somehow." he admitted sheepishly, grinning. "I'm Shockstar!" he spoke, doing his best to turn his frown upside down. He shoved out a hoof in a hoofshake gesture. "Though next time Kintsugi, I promise you a real adventure!" he smiled, nodding his head furiously as he wiped away the last of his tears.
