Account Settings:

How do I know how much gold I've earned?

You can select to be notified whenever you earn gold for posting in forums, voting, etc.
Go to My Gaia → Account Settings

Under Feature Options → Gold Notification:, check to receive notifications. Uncheck to stop receiving notifications.

How do I turn on Private Messages?

Enabling your Private Messages:
Note: Your private messages are already enabled and set to Yes when you join.
Step one: Hover over My Gaia in the menu.
Step two: Click Account Settings. This is also the Preferences page.
Step three: Under the Private Messages section to the top right, you will see the following options:

Yes allows everybody to send you Private Messages.
No means that other users cannot send you Private Messages. (That does not include system messages and admin/moderator messages)
Friends Only means that only users on your friends list can send you Private Messages.
Note: Even if you have your PMs set to No or Friends Only, you can still send out a message - You just won't be able to receive a reply.
PM Notifications If you want to be notified when a new PM is sent, leave this box checked. If not, uncheck it.
Step four: Select your preferred option and click Save All Changes at the bottom. There you go! Done. You can now use the Private Messaging system to chat with other users!

Account:

I can’t log into my account. What should I do?

There are a few reasons why you might not be able to login. Please check out the following scenarios to see which suits your situation.
15 Minute Block

It's possible that someone misspelled their username and tried to log in multiple times, or that someone was trying to hack into your account. If you've logged in successfully and verified that everything is as it should be you do not need to worry.
If you can log into your account and are missing items, it is possible that you have been hacked. Create a new account on Gaia and fill out a Hacking Report so the appropriate Gaia staff and moderators can investigate.

First, make sure that your username and password are spelled correctly. If you're sure they're spelled correctly, next try resetting your password by clicking Forgot Your Login You'll need to type in the email address that's on your account and within a few minutes, we'll email your username and a link where you can reset your password.

If you still can't login and you've let some time pass before trying again (typically 15 minutes), create a new account on Gaia and then fill out a Feedback Form for assistance. Use the link at the bottom of the page under "Still can't find your answer?" When reporting this issue, please refer to your original account username that you cannot log into when filing the feedback form.

How do I delete my account?

We do not completely delete accounts on Gaia, as we need to keep a minimum of information on file for record-keeping and dispute-resolution purposes. If you would like to remove information from the account, you can log in and do so at any point by going to My Gaia, then to Account Settings. There you can change the email address on the account and update the password. You can even change the username on the account, if you want.
If you simply want the account to be closed, we can do that for you - just Contact Us and confirm that you have removed any information you no longer want on file, and are ready for your account to be closed. If you have mobile alerts activated on your account, you can stop them by going to My Gaia ---> Account Settings ---> Alerts, and and you can deselect Mobile Alerts (bottom left) OR you can reply "STOP" to any mobile alerts you receive, which will also deactivate alerts for you. If you have email alerts activated on your account, you can stop them by going to My Gaia ---> Account Settings ---> Notifications and check the box titled Global Opt-Out.
However, if you think that you may want to use the account in the future, we recommend changing the password to something complicated so that no one else can guess it, and to simply stop using the site for awhile. That way if you decide to come back, you can simply use the "Forgot your login" link next to any sign-in box to create a new password and start using the account again.
If you merely want to create a new avatar for this account, you can Delete Your Existing Character and recreate it, as well as change your gender and username, all from your Account Settings.

Images:

How can I display my Aquarium in my signature?

Go to My Gaia → Account Settings → Preferences
Under Images → My Signatures, check Show aquarium to display your aquarium in your signature. Uncheck Show aquarium to remove your aquarium from your signature.
Then Save All Changes.

Can I filter other users' signatures?

Just like the Word Filter, you can determine what is shown on others' signature. Go to My Gaia → Account Settings → Preferences

Under Images→ All Signatures, you can select to Show gaia users' signatures. If you check the box to Show gaia user's signatures, more selections will appear and you can select what you will see on other user's signatures. You can select to display the user's signature, car, aquarium or combination of those three choices.

If you choose to show other user signatures, you can also choose to display the images or simply links to the included images. Under Images → Image Display you can select show no images, show all images, or show whitelisted images.

Show No Images - Replaces images contained in the signature with links.
Show All Images - Displays all images contained in the signature.
Show Whitelisted Images - Display images from trusted sources, like Photobucket. Non-whitelisted images will be replaced with a link.

Signature:

What is a Gaia Sig and how do I make one?

A Gaia Sig is your own personal Signature that will display at the bottom of your posts in forums and at the bottom of Private Messages, if you choose to show it. Your Signature can be text, a photo, drawing or whatever you like, as long as it follows Gaia's TOS.
To get started, go to your Signature Settings page. At the bottom of the page you can see a section titled Gaia Sig. Click the Make Gaia Sig button to go to the configurations page for your Gaia Sig:

Check the options you wish to show on your Gaia Sig (or uncheck the ones you don't want to show!). Adjust the colors by dragging the sliders on each of the color sections. You can control between Background color, Nameplate Color, Name Color and Stats Color. Play around with the sliders to see what you prefer!
Once you are done, click Save then go back to your signature settings page. The image you made will show at the bottom now. Click on the image and the BBCode for putting in the image will now have been inserted into the signature textbox.
Click on Save All Changes to save it!

What can I put in my signature?

You can have a maximum of 255 characters in your signature and it is BBCode enabled, so you can put images in it as well.
Do note that you have to follow the Rules And Guidelines and the following signature rules:
Less than 500 pixels in size in both width and height.

Total byte-size of less than 100,000 bytes.

255 character limit for signature text

255 character limit for url length (length of tags is included)

How can I check my signature size?

How can I check my signature size?
Signatures can be a fun and creative way to express yourself on Gaia, but there are limits on both the image size and file size of any picture used in a signature image. Here's how you can check both the image size and the file size of your signature image to make sure it is ok to use:

Checking Image Dimensions:
Image dimensions refers to the actual height and width of an image! An image's dimension size is important because images that are too large can stretch the screen and make viewing a page a bad experience for other Gaians who have to scroll past the over-sized image. This is why we have a limit of 500 pixels by 500 pixels for signature image dimension sizes.
To check an image's dimension size, do the following:

If using Firefox:
a) Right click on the image
b) Select "View Image Info" option to see image information panel
c) Look for the section called "Dimensions" - this is where you'll find the dimensions of your picture. If the image's dimensions are greater than 500 x 500 pixels, then it is too big for use as a Gaia signature. If this number is 500 x 500 pixels or less, it is fine.

If using IE:
a) Right click on the image
b) Select "Properties" option to see the image information panel
c) Look for the section called "Dimensions" - this is where you'll find the dimensions of your picture. If the image's dimensions are greater than 500 x 500 pixels, then it is too big for use as a Gaia signature. If this number is 500 x 500 pixels or less, it is fine.

Note: Most people use either Firefox or IE for their browsers which is why this article is limited to these two examples. Other browsers may have different ways of finding an images size or file size. Please read up the FAQs associated with your browser to find any information that might help you!

Where do I go to change my Signature?

Go to your account settings through My Gaia --> Account Settings

At the end of the My Gaia navigation bar, look at the gear icon at the end and hover over the little arrow next to it. Signatures is among the options:

On that page, you will see a textbox. Enter the content you wish to show up in your signature in that very textbox.
To preview the content, click [+] Click here to preview your text as it will appear in your profile.
When you are satisfied with your changes, click Save All Changes.
