The expression might have been something along the lines of 'things went to the dogs' but to be honest, it was bats on Delilah's mind. Massive amounts of them as well... Shivering as the autumn air blew in a chill, she pushed the rats with wings from her mind and looked up at the front door of the police station. Officer Fisher had been kind enough to put up not only with her making a mess but then proven a skilled fighter as well. She mentally credited him with the reason she wasn't suffering from the 'vampire sickness' that had been going around. But at that moment, all she could think about was the very idea of walking in those doors and never walking out again. Oh she had done nothing to be arrested for...in this form...but that didn't stop her nerves from turning into butterflies in her stomach. "Okay. You can do this. You marched into the Rift and lived. This is no different...I hope." Swallowing hard, she quickly climbed the stairs and pulled open the door to head into the foyer. Instantly she wished she had remembered not to pack the gift in a metal tin as she viewed the x-ray machines. "Shoot...Excuse me." Delilah asked pulling out the tin from her over sized bag and heading towards the person manning the desk. "Is Officer Fisher in today?"

The attendant at the desk seemed in a chipper enough mood for someone dealing with police and criminals all day. "You're in luck, he just came in a few minutes ago," he replied, adjusting his glasses before he peered over his shoulder. "Let me call him up here, should just take a moment."
He asked for her name--protocol, probably, and picked up the phone behind him. He dialed a few numbers, paused, and then mumbled something into the phone. He offered her a smile as he did so and hung up just a second later.
Almost before he'd even had time to announce that it should be just a moment, Jeremy walked out from around the corner. He had a cup of coffee in one hand and a mouth half full of food. Judging by the slight powder coating his tie, he'd been indulging in powdered donuts, or some other breakfast confectionery.
It took him only a glance to recognize her. "Delilah," he greeted around his mouth full of food. He forced himself to swallow and then wiped his free hand off on the side of his pants before offering it to her in greeting. "Hey, what's up? Everything okay?"
While he seemed happy to see her, he seemed to be honest in his concern; he couldn't help but worry any time anyone stepped through those doors.

Delilah felt herself jump in shock at the level of energy the attendant gave her. Either he was a very positive person or someone had made an espresso run. Not seeing a cup back behind the desk, she gave it up that maybe he just had a great personality. As he went through the motions though, Delilah couldn't help but feel her body tense. She was a bit anxious being there with all the hustle and bustle of the station. People seem to be appearing out of the wood work! How many did they process through here in a day? Her daze was broken though when her the sound of her name made her jump. Turning, the surprise on her face quickly shifted to a large smile to only grow into a laugh. "Really?" She motioned to his tie with a nod of her head. "And I felt horrible about powdered sugar and here you are wearing it like it is an everything day occurrence." Shifting the tin into one hand, Delilah took his offered hand shake. "And before you get too concerned, everything's fine. I'm alright. No random bat attacks to report." She wouldn't mention the youma from the other night after all. "I wanted to bring you a token of thank you for everything at the festival as well as an apology again. Though I'm re-thinking the apology." Pulling her hand back, she shifted the tin and held it out to him. "It's an old family recipe. Homemade fudge. I didn't know if you liked nuts or not so I did half with and half without."

"Huh?" Jeremy looked down at his tie when she mentioned the powdered sugar and just huffed before brushing it off. "I told you not to worry about it."
She had his attention shortly after though; he was both relieved to hear that she wasn't there for trouble and interested immediately in whatever token of thanks she had brought. "You didn't have to do that," he replied, though quickly donned a smile and accepted it. He might have put up more of a fight about her going out of her way to thank him for just doing his job but he wasn't going to be rude. To refuse a gift? That would have been awful.
He accepted the tin without any argument though and didn't wait until she was gone to pop it open and sample a piece. "I love nuts," he said, taking a piece speckled with them. "'S long as they're not on a guy. Then, no thank you."
Perhaps some officers might have been worried about eating on the job or food contamination or threats on their life, but almost immediately it was apparent that if you wanted to kill Jeremy, you should just give him food. He didn't hesitate to taste her fudge and it was clear by his expression that he more than appreciated it. He was carefully balancing his cup of coffee and the tin while still snacking on the piece.
He could have been lost in his own little world while he enjoyed it but simply couldn't be rude. "--Delilah, don't take this the wrong way," he said around the bite, "But I hope you spill food on me and get attacked by bats on a regular basis. This is delicious."

The compliment made her smile grow to the point she almost felt herself laugh. "I won't take it the wrong way but you will have to forgive me if I don't go out looking for giant bats to try and bite me. I have no desire to be a vampire, sparkles or no sparkles." With a now free hand, Delilah reached out to offer to hold his coffee as he balanced everything. "Careful there. Powdered sugar is one thing. Hot liquid and I then have to bring you a chicken or something. Though I'll make sure whatever it was didn't have nuts since you seem picky about them." A playful wink and she stepped back again. Running a hand through her hair, she glanced towards the floor before looking back at him. Truth was she could have handled those bats alot better had she been able to power up. But...that was another story. "I didn't see you after the attack either. Did the news crew get you? I ran to get away from those cameras but a man in uniform...they had to swarm you like moths."

Jeremy offered her his coffee to hold and provided a quick word of thanks as he balanced himself. Intent on keeping good company, he only helped himself to one more piece of fudge before he closed the tin.
"News crew, no. I try to stay away from them when I can. I don't do any of this for the glory," he waved his hand nonchalantly around the office. This was a job for him, and one he seemed happy enough to do without media interference.
"Nah, truth is, I ran to check on my brother and see if anyone else needed help. Good news is, he needed help, so I had a good opportunity to play favorites." It was a joke, probably; he was the sort of person who would have helped anyone in need and it seemed unlikely that he would have abandoned someone in trouble. "He wasn't as lucky as you or I. Turns out, a big one got him," he raised his hand to graze the tender patch of flesh in the crook of his neck. "Right here. Nasty, too. He lost a lot of blood and had to stay in bed for a bit, but I think he's all better. No less crazy than he's always been, in any case," he said with a laugh.

Visablily wincing as she listened to him talk about his brother, Delilah couldn't help but feel for the young man. The last round of bats had been more than nasty.
"I guess the one good thing is that he couldn't try out new scents on your for awhile. Unless he's working on Vampire Blood now which, I'm going to have to pass on. The idea of trying to get a blood smell...." she shivered.
"A friend of mine and her boyfriend, got attacked. Not the big ones at least but I know the next few days were....difficult for them both. And very itchy."

"Very true!" Jeremy laughed, glad at least for the reprieve on his status as guinea pig. He didn't keep his humor for long; he cocked his head to the side when she mentioned her friends.
"I heard there were some bad side effects. Myles had some, too. I mean, truth be told I had doubts about what caused them," he didn't dwell on the matter and, in fact, seemed like he was keen to move away from where his suspicions had been, "But with that giant bruise on his neck, it was kinda easy to tell. The doctor's said he was fine, that he had nothing in his system, so...I don't know. Must have been a bad reaction or something."
He shrugged. "I got real worried about him, towards the end. He was throwing up everything I fed him, half-starved. Wouldn't come out of the bathroom."
Jeremy paused and let out a soft groan. He pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed. He felt compelled to explain, "He's got this thing, you know, that he's done since he was a kid. We lived in a bad neighborhood growing up, so he was always afraid of getting robbed. We'd had a few break-ins, mostly in the other apartments, but once in ours. Thankfully we were gone at the time, but they shot the old man next door when they found him. Myles was a kid, so you know, it left him really shaken up. So he started like, sleeping in the bathtub."
Jeremy seemed exasperated. "Which is fine and all, I guess. You know, he makes a nest and all. What isn't fine is that we've only got one bathroom and sometimes I get home late. Not exactly a comforting feeling to be, you know, taking a p--"
He paused, looked her in the eyes, and cleared his throat. "Taking care of business, and suddenly you hear a sleepy, 'How was your day?' coming from behind the shower curtain." He shook his head. "So, he spent a lot of time hiding in the dark, in the bathroom, until he started feeling better. Which, he did! So, good, happy endings for everyone. Oh--your friends, they got better too, right?"

What was more priceless that moment: Delilah's facial expression or the fact her eyes were as large as saucers. "He sleeps in the bath tub?" Slowly her wide eyes softened back to a more natural state. The lines on her face softened and she once again far more amused than surprised. If anything she was quickly learning that that this man was full of them. "That was honestly not my first thought." With a slow shake of her head, Delilah felt herself laugh. "Figured he was just regretting letting you cook and try to feed him." Frankly that was far more info than she had wanted or needed but still, it made her smile. The man clearly cared about his brother even if it sounded as if there were a few screws loose. "The only time I have ever slept in a tub was with a friend's family in a hotel." One hand went to her hip as she spoke with amusement. "Her father's snoring could not be stopped even when the fire alarm went off... " She gave a sigh now and looked away as she, remembering what happened. "They didn't realize I was in there and turned the shower on..." With a shrug, she smiled back. "I most likely screamed as loud as you did the first few times your brother scared you. Have you considered getting a screen to divide the bathroom? Or a bucket? I would say a second toilet but installing one of those is a bit tricky I understand. No more hole over the ground." It was sweet how he edited himself. He tried. "As for my friends, yes. The itching and other things seemed to disappear with a few hamburgers and some screaming. The damage the screaming caused though has yet to be seen." That time she sighed and seemed a bit upset at the matter. "Loose lips instead of a loose stomach..." Glancing back at him, she quickly came out of her daze. "But I'm sorry to about your old neighbor. Did that motivate you to become a cop?"

Jeremy laughed when she shared her story but he took on a far more sombre expression when she asked about his motivation to become an officer.
"Yeah," he said slowly, like it wasn't the whole story. His eyes drifted to some far away place, for only a second, and he broke whatever spell he was slipping into. He shrugged and shoved another piece of fudge into his mouth.
"Yeah, pretty much. Like I said, bad neighborhood. We saw things go on all the time. It wasn't a good place to grow up. You'd think, you know, you wouldn't want your kids around people like that, but," he shrugged. "Some people just don't care. So I figure, if they don't, I will."

Large note to self: do not bring up why he became a cop. Delilah felt his mood shift and she couldn't help but bite her bottom lip as she watched it. There was more to than he wanted to share or re-live. That, she couldn't fault him. "You are a good man." Delilah offered, watching him sneak another piece of fudge. "A hungry one, but a good one." The words were in hope of him cheering up a bit. "Maybe next time I should bring you lunch..." "Anyway," Still feeling a bit awkward, Delilah, brushed her hair back behind her ears. "I have a couple of errands to run and I don't want to take up your day, Officer."

Jeremy laughed, apparently quick to shift out of a bad mood. "Take up my day? Trust me, the only thing taking up my day is paperwork and petty criminals. This, though."
He smiled. "This was a good break from the normal, Delilah. And, you know?"
He gestured with the fudge. "Pretty sure this is sweet enough to make any man turn good. I'll have to try hard not to eat all this today. If I get cavities," he nodded to her. He couldn't keep a straight face though and shook his head. "...Then it's probably the donuts. Not a cliche, mind you--you try finding somewhere that sells food at five in the morning. But, you go on, don't let me hold you up. Thanks for stopping by, Delilah. It was nice."
He seemed genuine--and also like he probably wouldn't last the end of his shift before he finished the rest of her fudge.

His words made her smile. Delilah was glad to see his face shift emotions from the lost in thought to the large grin on his face. It suit him better in her mind. "Someone has to do it." Just as someone had to stop the powered 'criminals' as well. But that was her little secret. "But have you tried around the university's campus? Couple places over there open up early and you don't have to have a student ID to get to them. Though I'm betting a police badge would work even better." Turning to go, she shifted her bag on her shoulders and gave him one last look. "See you around Officer Fischer. And thank you again."

It seemed like Jeremy hadn't really considered stalking a campus but his lips pursed and he was nodding thoughtfully when she looked at him.
He waved and said, "Stay out of trouble," before turning away.
He certainly pretended like he was getting some paperwork before he headed back to do some paperwork, but the truth was, he was already getting into another piece of fudge.
