                            BACKGROUND
Chase Jaegr was the middle child of three. His parents, both feline metamorphoses, were highschool sweethearts who eloped to be together. They functioned well enough as a middle class family, and managed to keep all of their children in school. The oldest, Marco, was a lion metamorphose, while the youngest, Ana, was a jaguar like Chase. From a young age Marco and Chase were in open competition with one another, being only two years apart. As much as their parents tried to make them get along, the boys were always at one anothers throats, frequently changing shape to tussle with teeth and claws. In contrast, Ana, was always quiet and shy. Despite their differences, both boys were fiercely protective of her from a young age. Since their parents both worked full time, as soon as they were old enough to be left at home alone, Marco was left in charge of his younger siblings. This led to Chase and Marco fighting no holds barred on a regular basis and, typically, given Marcos superior strength and size, thanks to his being a lion as well as older, left Chase bloody and bruised. It gave Chase some feelings of inferiority as a child, which would fester into a deep-seated anger and resentment when he grew older. The fights reached a peak when Marco was fourteen and Chase was twelve. The three children were home alone again and the brothers had gotten into a particularly vicious row over some perceived slight. They might have seriously injured one another, if young Ana hadn't been so upset by the sight that she attempted to separate them herself. The night ended with an emergency trip to the hospital and Ana getting several stitches. She would bear the three long scars across her face for the rest of her life, and the sight of them was enough to stop any future brawls between the brothers for the rest of their youth living together. While the incident heightened the animosity between Marco and Chase, it did unite them in the common goal of protecting Ana even more in the future. When the three were older and in school, the two big cats would frequently team up to scare away any young men they felt were unfit for their younger sister. Between a Jaguar and a Lion, most of the young men agreed with them. They would learn later that this was a welcome intervention on their parts, as Ana preferred other girls. This confused them as to how to proceed with vetting potential partners, but Ana consoled them enough to let her handle that on her own.

Even with the cessation of their fights, the Jaeger household was never quite stable. Their mother quietly struggled with severe depression throughout their childhoods, and around the time that Marco and Chase were in high school, she hanged herself. As children, the three of them had never quite understood the magnitude of the burden their mother was operating under, believing, like most children do, that their parents were paragons of perfect and unending strength and wisdom. With their mothers passing, their father took up heavy drinking, leaving the children alone in the house more and more frequently. The trio managed well enough by then, all of them able to cook and clean and generally take care of themselves. But it was around this time that Chase started hearing things. It started out small. He would hear Marco calling him from the other room only to find that his brother wasn't even in the other room, or someone whispering something indistinct nearby when he was alone. He was worried until he talked to Ana about it. Ana, ever the calm, peace-loving girl, was his rock in the turbulant times of their lives. Despite being the youngest she always seemed so many worlds wiser than Chase or Marco. She was endlessly patient and calm, refusing to do harm to anyone around her, even when it might save herself some pain. To Chase, she was an angel. So when he confided in his concerns with her, he was relieved to hear her say that it was normal to hear things. It must be, after all, since she did too. They had a good laugh about it, joked that maybe the house was haunted, and went on with their lives. So Chase wasn't worried when he saw Ana looking for things that weren't there, or even talking to someone when facing an empty wall. It must be normal, she said. After all it happened to both of them. And when Marco expressed concern for the way Anas eyes glazed over and she would become unresponsive, Chase took offense to it. It was normal, she'd said. Marco was the weird one, not the two of them. They argued, but in the end they left it well enough alone. After all, Ana didn't seem hurt or unhappy, so what problem was there?

During this time in highschool, Marco busied himself on the football team, happy to use his big size to wall over other guys on the field, and Chase found his own passion in sports; boxing. He counted himself lucky he went to one of the few schools that actually competed in it. When he first started he was absolute s**t at it. He was only used to brawling with his brother, using claws and tackles and headlocks, all of which were rather frowned upon in boxing. He got his a** handed to him every time he practiced, but that only made him more determined to get better at it. Ever the stubborn one, Chase wouldn't quit. So, with encouragement from his coach, he started training every day, going to a local gym when he could and viciously beating up the tree in their backyard when he couldn't. Ana supported him, and Marco didn't mind seeing other guys beating him up for once. As time went on, the eldest Jaeger brother even went with Ana to watch some of his matches once he got half decent (although Chase could have sworn he heard him laughing whenever he got hit, but it was hard to tell if it was real or not). By the time he was a senior in high school he was one of the best their school had in the ring, taking second place in the regional championships. The victory spurred him on to try and pursue boxing professionally, and he took up training full time with a coach in a local gym who was convinced he could turn Chase into a powerhouse fighter with the potential to not only to professional, but be the best. While the road to his career was looking good, everything else in Chases' life would slowly fall apart in the next few years. Unbeknownst to him, Marco had been picking up some dangerous habits, and even more dangerous associates. After their father had descended into drunken squalor, Marco had largely been the one bringing in money to support the trio, and it had never occurred to Chase to ask where he'd been getting it from. He was too preoccupied with trying to tune out the voices which had become a daily clamor in his head, and snapping Ana out of her trances and imaginary conversations, which were occurring more and more frequently, and to increasingly alarming degrees. Chase did his best to hold everything together while simultaneously focusing on his lightweight boxing matches. It was around this time that the first of two major blows came. In one of his crucial matchups, Chase went toe to toe with a mage who, like himself, was a rookie showing some great promise. Their bout was intense, and even though the mage was lithe and graceful, Chase had size on him. But despite blow after blow landing, the mage kept coming back, pushing Chase back despite being bloodied and swollen and bruised. Chase kept on retaliating, neither competitor letting up, until finally Chase got an opening, landing a well-placed hit, full force, against the mages temple and sending him crashing to the floor of the ring. After the count was done and Chase declared the winner it became clear that something wasn't right. Just like the night when Ana got her scars, this night ended with an ambulance and a trip to the hospital. But this time, his opponent never came back out. Brain hemorrhage. Not unheard of in boxing, certainly, although it was admittedly less common in the lightweight matches. No charges were pressed, since it had clearly been an accident, and all the witnesses testified to it being an unfortunate sports-related death. But not everyone was so forgiving.

The mages family was not, to be certain. Chase never took the death threats he started receiving very seriously. He figured they were understandably upset, and the best he could do was to ignore them and let them grieve in their own way. And he was busy taking care of Ana, who was getting to the point of being 'gone' as often as she was aware, as well as arguing with Marco as to whether or not something ought to be done about it. So he wasn't being particularly cautious when he walked to and from the gym when he'd been there late practicing, never thought that maybe he needed to watch his back. So the blow to the back of his head was the last thing he felt when he blacked out. When he came to, he was blindfolded and bound, with no idea where he was or what was going on. Whether the mages family had acted on their own or hired outside help, he would never know, but whoever held him made it very clear exactly what he was paying for. That was when they burned him. It was slow and agonizing, and being blindfolded he never knew where they were going to hit him next. He was gagged, so he couldn't even beg them for mercy. He couldn't say how long the torture went on, hours or days or maybe just a few minutes. The smell of his own charred flesh would haunt him for years after. It might have gone on longer, or they might have killed him. But apparently the sound of police sirens wasn't just in his head. The attackers scrambled, but not before taking the bat they'd used to incapacitate him and using it to smash both of his kneecaps before abandoning him and disappearing into the night. He was untied by the police arriving on the scene, and sent in an ambulance to the hospital. He was covered in third degree burns, but the real b***h of it was his knees. Even with their best caims trying to handle the initial damage, they'd been completely shattered. They were able to heal him enough that he could walk again, but he would never be limber enough to get back into the boxing ring. His career was down the drain.

He was homebound for a month. Thanks to the caims who had taken care of him, the worst of his burns had been healed up, and even the scarring was minimal compared to the initial damage that had been done. They were even able to save the sight in his left eye. But he had to take it easy on his knees in order for them to heal the rest of the way on their own, and he was wheelchair bound for several months. During this time he took his fathers method of coping; drinking. A lot. When he drank he couldn't feel the tenderness of the newly grown skin over and around his scars, or the dull ache of his shattered knees. He couldn't hear the voices in his head or smell his singed skin. He drank and kept himself drunk. At first, Ana would come and sit with him. She would hold one big hand in hers and soothe him and tell him that things would work out, he just needed to keep his head up. Most of the time she just held him while she talked to someone else. Sometimes Chase was sure he could hear her screaming, and he wasn't sure if the claw marks he started seeing on her collar and arms were real or imagined. But he kept himself drunk enough that he didn't even notice when she wasn't there anymore. When he finally crawled out of the bottom of the bottle, it was because he finally had noticed. And for once in his life, Marco had tried to earnestly talk to his little brother, tried to make him understand that Ana had been hurting herself, that sending her to the mental hospital was in her best interest, that neither of them were equipped to take care of her the way she needed to be. But Chase didn't want to hear it. He'd stood up from his wheelchair and tried with all his might to put Marco in the ******** ground, because how DARE he? But with his injuries and the way he'd been abusing the bottle, Marco overpowered him even more easily than usual, and made it clear that Chase got no say in the matter.

Over the next few months Chase graduated from his wheelchair to crutches, and went to visit Ana as frequently as he was able. Sobered up somewhat, he was able to see that Marco hadn't been exaggerating. Ana couldn't recognize him, seemed afraid of her own shadow. She answered voices that Chase couldn't hear, and the ones that he could hear told him terrible things. He tried to console her, tell her it would be all right, but she couldn't seem to hear him. The only thing she was able to say to him directly was "Chase, I'm scared." A month later Ana was dead. Despite the extensive security measures the clinic took to prevent suicide attempts, Ana had used her own claws to gouge her wrists apart. When they got the news, Chase tried earnestly to murder Marco. The two fought more viciously than they ever had as children, and in his rage Chase managed to leave Marco with some nasty scars. The two of them had been living together in their fathers house, Marco still working to pay off Chases medical bills as well as the fees for the mental institute, but after Anas death they split.

Chase found himself friendless and alone on the street, preferring homelessness to relying on Marco any longer. He blamed his brother for Anas death, and with his boxing career in tatters he had no immediate source of income. He got by doing odd jobs here and there, until desperation drove him to an incredibly shady source. It was risky work, but the money was good, and it finally afforded him the income to rent out an apartment on his own where he could quietly drink himself into a stupor. Running drugs for Ghost lasted him a good while, although he was less interested in their wild parties and freewheeling habits. But being on the bottom of the totem pole meant that he was easy to replace, so when he was caught by the cops after a ******** up, he was on his own. He had no money for a proper lawyer, and he refused to contact Marco, so off to jail he went. Selling illegal substances landed him a seven year sentence (it was his first offense, so he was fortunate to get a light sentence out of a possible twenty years, with his lawyer playing up his family troubles to the jury, much to Chases chagrin). Inside, Chase had a great deal of difficulty adjusting to the prison systems complex social network. His dealings with Ghost had been minimal, so his knowledge of the different gangs was spotty at best. Out on the streets, Chase had gotten by on being large and frightening, but in jail that was more of the status quo. So, with nothing in particular to offer anyone, forming alliances proved challenging, and his tendency to butt heads left him constantly bouncing from one clique to another in between being beaten bloody. He did his best to avoid prison politic, keeping his nose out of the seemingly constant squabbled with the alchemists, ghouls, and random tiny factions trying to hold themselves together. During his stay he happened upon another inmate who Chase recognized as having been the victim of some savagery by the Ghouls in the midst of attempting suicide. Thinking immediately of Ana, Chase stopped him without thinking, and immediately became determined to keep him from going through with it. He was a less than courteous cellmate for him, having evolved over his years in prison into a frightfully callous, violent person. But he discovered that, of the voices constantly whispering between his ears, he could start to hear Ana in the chorus whenever his cellmate was around. So he became oddly attached to the ink mage. But they were only together for a short time before Julian was released, and Chase followed not long after.

Now, the jaguar is loose on the streets again, and doing his best to try and get his life together. He's kept his auditory hallucinations a secret, as much as he has been able, to avoid sharing Anas fate. And while, thus far, he has avoided getting mixed up with the gangs again, he hasn't exactly got a lot going for him to keep him from being tempted by the idea of power.

                            ABILITIES
                            ▬ BIG CAT
As a jaguar metamorphose, Chase can transform completely or partially into an adult jaguar. Most frequently he shifts so that he has long, sharp claws, and sometimes changes his teeth into fangs to make an impression. Beyond that, he's prone to transforming completely in desperate situations, either to bite, claw, and climb, or to flee more quickly.

                            ▬ SHARP EYES
His sense of smell isn't that great, and his auditory hallucinations make his hearing unreliable, so he relies very heavily on his excellent eyesight. He can see perfectly well in pitch-black, and even the slightest twitches in movement or muscle son't escape him.

                            ▬ STUCK IN THE SOUND
Chase is frequently plagued by auditory hallucinations. Mostly there are voices, but he also frequently hears what sounds like fire crackling, and it makes him incredibly jumpy. It makes it difficult for him to distinguish what he is and isn't actually hearing. Someone could be in the middle of being violently murdered in the room next door, and he would hear the screams and think that it was most likely another hallucination.

                            ▬ ROUND THREE
Before his entire life went to s**t, Chase Jaeger was on the path to becoming a professional boxer, with dreams of taking the championship. As such he has trained extensively, able to dodge and parry physical attacks without thinking, and capable of delivering blows to knock an opponent out cold. However, this training has been entirely for the sport of boxing, and this puts him at a strong disadvantage against other experienced fighters, particularly street brawlers and mixed martial artists.

                            EXTRA
-- Chases auditory hallucinations are not constant, but they do occur at least once or twice a day, often times more. There are several voices which he hears frequently, including the voice of his estranged brother, Marco, which tells him awful, degrading things about himself, and the voice of Ana, which is very kind and encouraging.

-- Chase is not attracted to men, however it didn't necessarily stop him from having some rendezvous during his years in prison. So he's what you might call 'prison gay.'

-- Chase has a tendency to sleep shift, transforming into his Jaguar shape while he snoozes.

-- After his assault, Chases attackers abandoned the baseball bat they used to knock him unconscious and shatter his knees. Chase has kept it since, and it was one of the few possessions he held on to even after his release from prison. He has used it to defend himself since becoming homeless, and plans on getting it enchanted when he has the money. He is not without his sense of irony.

-- Chases knees, while healed enough for him to walk and run, do tend to ache and cause him discomfort, and they are thrown out of place easily. They are his biggest weak points, physically.

-- Chase is deathly terrified of fire, and the sound or smell of it will cause him to panic. He is at the utter mercy of fire mages and fire nymphs.

-- His voice claim is Yoann Lemoine - Singing
