The sun glistened brightly against the fading colors of the fall, winter would be here soon.
How many winters had they seen together since she'd wandered into his life?
Teykali's mind wandered to what things had been like long before Topper had found him, saved him from worrying about his past. And through his past had come back to him. Memories of what he'd been, he was better equipped to deal with the repercussions because of her presence.
Their courtship had been clumsy, sweet, and slow. She'd cared for him quietly, not knowing they grew closer with every passing moment. He'd grown affectionate, and felt a longing when she was not there. Before they knew it, everyone around them simply assumed they were together.
He chuckled, it had been a surprise to Topper when she'd heard a friend ask about her mate. The conversation had been hilarious as he'd arrived to see her flushed brightly, embarrassed and shooshing the other soquili who was cackling.
Teykali pulled himself from his thoughts, and glanced around, his rummaging for a few scant breakfast items had resulted in a decent amount of grains and a couple of late bloomer apples.

Topper still couldn't believe that this would be another winter she spent with a Teykali. It seemed like a normal event now. Which was still such a surprise to her. Since letting people into her life was something she used to despise almost - and men well that subject was never even breached.
That was until she meet Teykali who taught her that not everyone was the same. She felt a little bad about the first time she met she definitely didn't make easy for him to befriend. Let alone be what they are now. Which was closer than she had ever been to anyone in her life. She now couldn't imagine not seeing him around. He was the first one to break that wall and show her that people aren't all like her mother and father. He would also probably be the only one.
She still was a little flustered from her friend asking about her mate. I mean they had been together for so long but to say it like that. She lite up like a balloon. To make matters worse Teykali saw her. She shook her head trying to forget it and swore she would get them back one day. Though the topic did leave her to wonder what that might be like. After all as much as she hated to admit it she didn't actually mind the thought of spending life with someone. well not someone only him. but she never could tell him that. not directly anyways - since she knew dealing with his past was hard enough. Plus she wasn't sure if she'd want to know his thoughts. or wait had he thought about it too?
She shook her head as soon as she felt her face flush red. All this thinking about these things had made her a little flustered. was this how it was supposed to be she thought as she headed towards Teykali - who she noticed was looking for something. She grinned with her face still flushed - "Good morning..." she said as she walked up to her one special person.
