Laini caught sight of the grey male approaching from the direction of the pride only after the stranger had spotted him, if the male's determined line of travil was any indication. Mentally cursing himself the large dark ex-bonelander stopped and turned to face the paler lion. At least if he got run off now, he had done all he could for his daughter and her babies. If only he hadn't been so distracted he might have gotten away without being detected, but after so many such secret visits, he supposed he was over due for an a**-chewing, either verbally or even physically. He could only hope this one would let him go with just the verbal warning.
Never the less he stayed standing as the grey one approached, his thick fur not disguising his heavily muscled frame. Unlike his homeland, the Pridelands where he now lived hadn't been hit by the drought and hunting was good. So he was fit and healthy, and had inherited his father's large stature as well as his colouring. With his classically dark mane he was the ideal Bonelander male, and looked imposing enough even when he smiled. The fact that he would rather sit down for a nice chat instead of fighting was something only discovered after he met someone.

Laini nodded easily, grateful that the male didn't seem like he was going to force this into a confrontation. Standing once again the ex-Bonelander son dipped his head, though he could see the curiosity on the other’s face. After a moment he figured it would be alright to explain himself, so long as he didn’t mention who he was visiting. “I hadn’t intended to cause any trouble, I just wanted to check up on my family. I heard there was a bad drought going on and was concerned, that is all.” He smiled slightly, tail swaying lazily behind him. He glanced back towards the dry and dusty landscape within which his mother, daughters and new granddaughters resided.
Looking back at the grey lion Laini smiled. “Look after the pride. They will need the males now more than ever.” It was spoken softly, a request born from a heart consumed by worry for his family. His sisters and their cubs he hadn’t met. And not only his immediate relatives, but all those that he had known in the pride, the lionesses he had grown up with, the friends he had left behind.

Kuhasa's ears perked up at the confirmation that this was indeed a son of the pride. That explained the familiarity.. and, possibly, the attitude. He had thought about it but never settled on what he thought he would be like or do if he had grown up in a pride like this. He expected many took it as a challenge, and many others were content to leave.. but if you knew where your family was when you left them behind, would you be compelled to visit?
The answer was yes, in his own case. He didn't relax exactly, that would have meant revealing his weak leg, but he accepted the idea that Laini was not here to cause any trouble.
"We're managing," he answered in regard to the drought, knowing the situation was becoming desperate but that the pride would persevere and that encouraging any worried relatives to intervene would be worse. He wasn't sure how to respond to the soft-spoken request, but he nodded.
"I will."

The large dark lion nodded at Kuhasa's reply. "Thank you." He returned, his deep voice unfailaingly polite and soft-spoken. Laini was not a violent lion, nor was he confrontational, despite his larger than average size and obvous strength. His Bonelander bloodline was clearly obvious and not only in his exceptional colouration.
Dipping his head in a small bow he moved a few paces, away from the pride that Kuhasa was guarding. "Then I shall be on my way. Good luck." With one last knowing look at the grey male, Laini set off once more into the roguelands. He knew he would be back here, he would need to be sure his family had survived this troubled time and maybe, just maybe, he would get to meet his great-grandkids one day... But for now, his work was done and he would not upset his Ithambo relatives by lingering.
