This would be her last reaving. Her last reaving for some time that was for sure. It irked her no end that she would have to stop to give birth and care for the babies. Sure she had managed to take a male to her den and he would undoubtedly be useful when the cubs could eat mostly meat. She knew though at this time this would be her last reaving for a while and she was very annoyed about that. So much so that she stomped accross the savannah paying no mind to her noises paws or the quick shift in the hers nearby as they fled from her fiery anger.

Her belly was huge. So huge she had long realised that she wasn't having a little litter. She had done this pregnancy thing before, the four cubs she had carried had barely shown until the very last stages of her pregnancy, this time her belly was massive, she was having way more than four cubs, she could feel it deep in her soul, and that just made her even more angry. She would be dormant for months looking after the little fur balls. Why was she in this mess? Why couldn't this just be fixed? Where was a miracle when she needed one?

Finding a patch of shade beneath a tree she sits down in a cloud of dust. The salmon pink female slowly rolls on to her side allowing the shade to cool her boiling hide. Perhaps she shouldn't have come out reaving today, it was too hot and she was already exhausted.

Marik lay at his side, shallow breathing giving evidence to his delicate life. His body was emaciated with protrusions of bones at his hips and ribs. His coat was brittle and unkempt and his skin was pale. He could not recall last when he had a successful hunt, or a meal which had not laid out in the heat of the sun for days. It was very likely that the wound at his side had become infected and if not that, then whatever disease plagued the carcasses around him would surely come for him.

Marik means King.

Heavy lids refused to open as he fought for the strength to rise again. For weeks he wondered when the buzzards overhead would finally claim him. For months he searched endlessly for someone he knew was long gone. For years he doubted himself.

Marik means Master.

But where was she now? Abeni, the priestess of the Aikanaro'hini who had promised him dreams of power. What did it mean when you lost value, even as a slave? What purpose could he serve if abandoned by the one who chose him for her own.

The sound of movement nearby broke the lion's train of thought and he made to shift himself upright to stand. A heavy grunt escaped his maw as he struggled. There was the expectation of danger. It would not be the first time he suffered at the claw of more powerful lions.

Nymphaea lifted her head her blood red eyes falling upon skin and bones male that rose to his paws. How hadn't she noticed him there? Her senses were clearly dulled by her expanding stomach. Stupid pregnancy brain.

"If you're intending to attack me I'd mosey on if I was you. I'm in no mood for shenanigans." She growls rolling her heavily muscled shoulders. She shifts uncomfortably, moving her cloak accross her stomach in an attempt to hide her distended belly. If he decided to attack her, she knew she wouldn't be able to move quickly, but she had strength as her advantage. Even in this state she could take out other lions.

Still she questioned why she had come out reaving today. She was at a disadvantage even against a lion as delicate looking as this one. "Well do you speak or are you as mute as you are untidy?"

He'd only pushed himself onto his elbows and stomach when the unfamiliar voice broke the silence between them. Panic flashed briefly in his expression as his tired eyes sought the source of the sound. He didn't answer immediately, how could he when he did not know who it was who called to him.

A second groan was barely stifled as he looked around carefully. He was vulnerable. The thought of enduring another attack in his current state was a deadly risk to take. He would be wise to simply step away carefully before any sort of confrontation.

And then pale blue eyes settled on the swollen form of the pink lioness nearly. Marik paused with uncertainty. What was she doing out alone? Even without any experience in the subject, he could only guess by her enormous size that she were ready to give birth at any moment. Without knowing her background with the Vikings or the strength she carried in her, he mistakenly presumed her to be the more vulnerable of the two.

"...it is unsafe here for one in your condition," His voice was hoarse. The words came across as something of a warning, rather than a threat.

The lioness growled. She had never ben called vulnerable her whole life. She was strong, decended from the firekin, accepted with the vikings, she was a reaver. "I can take care of myself even in this condition." She growls moving slightly to place herself in a more crouched position so she could move if she needed to.

"You on the other hand look like you could be blown over with a strong breeze. Don't you know how to take care of yourself?" She raises a brow throwing caution to the wind she rose to her paws showing her size. She was after all an ex-firekin, her body was solidly built and heavily muscled she hadn't gotten lazy during her pregnancy making sure to keep on the move. She just supposed she could have stayed home today. She just wanted to go reaving one last time. So Annoying she had to be faced with a male lion. Though he did seem concerned.

"Where are you from? There are no prides here. Though I suppose its pretty obvious you are a lone rogue. Are you trying to starve yourself to death?"

The fire which emanated from the lioness in response to his concern drew a soft smirk to the corner of his mouth. She was proud and, as she demonstrated with her stance and words, was solidly build. Even in her state it was unlikely he could handle her on his own. He might have pressed the subject further, but the shreds of self preservation urged him otherwise.

"I-" He started in response to her initial question. Did he? He could not have made it so many years without Abeni, without the safety of his pride, if he had no ability to care for himself. But even as a slave, it had been Abeni who truly cared for him and ensured his survival. He had grown complacent and leaned too heavily on her support of him. She had seen something in him then... she had believed in him.

In his years of travel, Marik had come to learn that the reputation of the demon lions was not so well received by rogues and pridal lions alike. They were a brutal people.

"I have no pride," He answered her honestly. She might perceive that there was more to the story, but he was deliberately cautious in what he shared. "What lay around us is my home."

Sorry super side tracked!

Home he said, this was a no where place. A place between places a land that was barren and not the good kind of barren. She had grown up in the desert, it was harsh but full of creatures that knew how to survive, they had taught her how to be strong and how to survive, even alone she had never looked like this rogue did. Still when she was alone she had purposefully searched for a home, a pride as strong as her first. She had found it in the vikings.

Something pulled at her heart though when she saw this lion, he looked like he had been through hard times. Perhaps he had even lost something big. A rogue that had once been a part of a pride? She couldn't help but roll her eyes she was going soft, pregnancy always made her a little 'motherly' she spat the word in her head. Sympathy, not something well known in the vikings.

"You were born in a pride weren't you?" She raised a brow her tongue licking out over her lips."I know the look of someone not welcome in their home." She takes a step forwards her guard lowered ever so slightly. Hopefully he wouldn't attack, she was still vulnerable despite her size.

No worries! I'm generally pretty busy on weekends too! ^_^

The question about his birth prompted an expression of consideration. How long had it been since his birth? Since he had last even considered his own birth? A light chuckle escaped the male's mouth before he slowly shook his head. "Many, many moons ago, perhaps." He had been a slave. It was uncertain whether he was ever truly viewed as a member of the place. Afterall, he had never found the Demon which Abeni spoke of. Perhaps this failure on his part was why he was cast away and forgotten?

When she stepped toward him, guard lowered, he tilted his head slightly. Closer, he could better see the curve of her abdomen hidden beneath the strip of cloth she tried to hide beneath. Her middle was heavily swollen. He retained a sense of concern over what was to come of the expectant cubs in the roguelands, but instead focused on what she had said.

"You say you recognize the look?" It had been a revealing statement from the pink lioness.

The lioness gave a light nod. She really didn't speak of her past very often. She always simply said she was born of the firekin, though with her pelt colour that was never obvious. The only thing they had truely given her was how to survive and her size. "I was born in a pride where my colour was not welcome. I survived, I survived properly and found a new pride, a pride that welcomed my size and strength and didn't care about my colour."

She took another gentle step forwards her stance becoming less guarded. "I don't care about your old pride, I don't even care that you look like to could eat a good meal. What I care about is if you need some where to go. I can offer you a place." She licks her lips slowly. She had never really owned a Thrall, potentially she was about to have two. She had seen many of the lions in her pride owned creatures that held less strength that obeyed their masters.

She had never really considered owning Thralls before until her belly had swollen to this point. She was definitely having a very large litter and she knew she couldn't do it alone. "As long as you can follow my rules, as long as you can look after these that I carry I'll give you a home and I will keep you well fed. No one goes hungry in the stormborn." She chuckles shaking her head a little to herself, she was clearly going soft, what lion, even one who looked like a breeze could blow him over would actually agree to care for cubs of another male. Her brain was clearly going soft she was adopting a lion that probably needed her help more than he could provide. Still maybe he would be a little useful. If he agreed.

Despite the vague language used between them, the small gesture of sharing pasts was enough to create some kind of familiarity between the two of them. Marik nodded his head weakly to show that he was paying mind. He could only imagine what it was that went unspoken, the trials and hardships that she experienced in the place which shunned her for the color of her fur. Silently, he recalled similar views from the Aikanaro'hini, who valued dark colorations for their members.

Marik did not move away when the lioness continued to step closer to him. Near to him, she could pick up on the pungent odor of infection at his rear leg. It appeared to be some kind of bite wound which festered without treatment. An absence of clean water and grooming had prevented proper healing.

The offer of somewhere to go certainly caught his interest and he narrowed his eyes with some consideration (as well as suspicion). It was evident by the expression on his face that he was waiting for the catch. The mention of rules did not even phase the male. This was an opportunity to start fresh and to make use of the life which remained.

He wanted to immediately accept the gracious offer of the healthy lioness gravid with cubs. But the obvious remained at the forefront of his mind,

"Then you're alone?"

The lioness wrinkled her nose, the act of moving closer to him only revealed how much of a bad way the lion was in. He smelled of infection. Her brow wrinkled in a frown. That motherly instinct again pulled at her heart. "I'm not going to attack you." She states taking another few steps forwards. A generous feeling rose in her chest and she let out a deep breath. "Even if you don't want to come with me, let me see to your wound." She grunts laying down slowly in the shade once again she nods to her side.

"Come lay here. I wont hurt you. I promise." She lets out a long exasperated sigh. "The male that did this." She nods to her rotund waist line. "He was a one night thing. I'm a reaver you see, in my pride we take the lands and it was on a reave, I went out and spent a night with a particularly friendly male. When I went back to tell him I was pregnant he simply nodded and walked away. He wasn't interested in helping me so I went back to my pride." She shrugs her shoulders.

"In my pride we can bring home creatures to obey our rules. To do as we say, we call them Thralls. Some mistreat them, I have no reason to do that. I just want someone to look after these. I already took on one male to help, but I have the deeply sinking feeling that I am having a lot more cubs this time." She gestured at her belly "I'm not exactly motherly. I tried with my first litter, I didn't really do very well. This time, I want to do better."

I like where this is going! We can probably wrap up soon and move into the actual pride? Think I can submit for the cert already?

When Marik observed Nymphea's wrinkled nose in disgust, he knew she had observed the injury at his hindquarters. He had presumed that the conversation might change with the unfamiliar threat caught sight of how much worse shape he was actually in. While he might have become concerned again, her soothing words eased his mind and he moved to be closer to her so that she could better inspect the wound.

As she did whatever it was that she would do with him, he lay still and without a word. When she spoke, he listened. The lean and slender male was surprisingly malleable in her grip. How easily he followed direction may have betrayed some familiarity with being told what to do.

The information about the vikings, the reavings, strength and thralls, set the tone for the experience that he could anticipate should he follow her to their new home. It would appear that he would be some kind of servant to her, caring for her cubs and assisting her so that she could continue to go out and care for her pride with other reavers. Given his current circumstances, it allowed him a second opportunity to live. It might have been a blessing in disguise.

A light grumble escaped Marik's mouth at the mention of the other male. With such little interaction between them, it wasn't jealousy, but frustration with the actions of another for leaving the pink lioness to go without assistance for her cubs. He could not say that he would be good with cubs... but he could certainly try. With a slow nod, he agreed. "I'll go with you. What rules would you expect me to follow?"

yupper ready to wrap she can take him home!

Nymphaea spent a little time cleaning up the males wound, she used her claws, as gently as possible and finally using her rough tongue to dig out all of the buss and clean it until it bled gently. "It should heal better now." She states simply getting to her paws slowly stretching out her limbs, it was getting harder to get up and down, she supposed when she got home she would just have to lay up until the cubs came.

"Just hunt when I need you to, look after the cubs, feed them, be their father figure if you can and I promise I won't ever hurt you." She smiled and let out a sigh. "Follow me, I'll take you home."

The male remained stoic during the wound cleaning, though it was evident by mild twitches along his body that the procedure was not without pain. The effort of the heavily pregnant female was enough to build a greater trust between them. Even in asking for his service, she did not owe him anything.

As she went over the list of tasks that he would be responsible for, he nodded his head slowly. His leg throbbed, but he pushed himself upright so that they could begin their trek to his new home.
