Who: Oliver Kipling and Zeke Farris
When: Afternoon of October 29th
What: Oliver decides to text Zeke to see how his growing Raevan is doing --- He'd sat on this for at least a month now out of fear of being a bother, but with the holiday season steadily approaching and the thoughts of busy times with family looming in, Oliver felt that it was finally time to seek out an update on how his Raevan was coming along. It was nearly nine months since he'd sent the bottles back and, honestly, he found humor in the fact that waiting was an awful lot like waiting for a baby to be born. But, like most expectant parents, he had his curiosities, and those curiosities couldn't be contained any longer.
He grabbed his cellphone, after pouring himself another cup of calming tea, and searched his contacts for Zeke Farris, the man who had sent him the package that started this journey to begin with.
"Hopefully he isn't too busy to respond to a few texts..." He muttered, his brows furrowing as he typed and hit send. "I'd hate to distract him from anything important."

Zeke was currently at home, enjoying a much needed respite from the day to day of work and other such adult responsibilities. Anya was out soaking up one of the last warm days of the year, Brad was (unfortunately for them both) at work himself, and other than the animals Zeke was alone. As such, he was taking the opportunity to literally put his feet up on the coffee table, stretching out mid-Netflix binge while debating what he wanted to nab for a snack. Before he could settle, his phone buzzed next to his foot and Zeke forgot about popcorn and chips for the time being.
When he saw the message and who sent it, the vet chuckled. He had been expecting this one to send him a message at some point but was surprised it had been so long until now!

You Raevan huh? You know I've been wondering when I was going to here from you on that one, lol! To be honest with you, they're quite the fast grower! It wouldn't surprise me if they were to pop out any day now!!!

Oliver tapped his hand on the side of his armchair and beamed when his ringtone rang out. That was quick! He grasped the phone and only continued to grin as he read the message and wrote his reply.

I've been trying to be as patient as possible until this point because I didn't want to seem too over-eager, but I'm ecstatic to hear that they've made such quick progress! In a way, though, it does make sense! The fastest animal on land would probably be in a big hurry to get here! ]
He pressed send and took a breath, before thinking of something else to add.

His phone pinged twice in quick succession which prompted the vet to laugh. Someone was an eager beaver! Not that he could blame the blond any!

LOL it does make sense! Although don't be surprised if they end up taking a bit longer to be born. Some Freis grow SUPER quick but end up slowing the process down near the tail end there for whatever reason. As far as anything of note, well...where to begin really?! It can be rather hard to see into the tanks 'cause the water is so murky but I can safely say this guy or gal has some noticeably feline ears on their head~
He sent the message off, smiling in a playful way as he watched it go from 'sending' to 'delivered'. As soon as it did so he had to chide himself. Dummy! He had a couple pictures!!!

The professor had taken a sip of his tea between glances at his phone and almost sent it down to his lungs when he read the next message. Little cheetah ears! How sweet!

He sent the message eagerly, but didn't have time to imagine what the ears could look like. P-pictures?! Did he want to see them now, or did he want to wait until they were born? He fidgeted and bit his lip, before quickly typing out a reply.

Message: I had a feeling you'd say that!!! Just be warned, they are kind of shitty. Like I said the tank water is murky as hell even though they are lit up inside!
He fired that text off then got to work sending the two of the photos he had taken. They were arguably the best ones, but still kind of hard up. As Zeke had said in his previous text, defining features were impossible to make out. The Raevan in the tank was a dark shadow of a shape suspended in liquid. The partial body that marked a Frei was easy to see, especially with the ribbon curling down beneath it. Arms, hands, a head, and what seemed to be rather bony wings were pretty much the only things to spot.

They've also got some bony looking wings but maybe it's just a trick of the light? To say that Oliver simply looked at the photos would be an understatement. The blond gave each one his full, undivided attention, and really tried to absorb them into his memory. Their form, the shape of their wings, how their ribbon curled, and their head. This was his child, currently suspended in fluid and forming, but they were there. Even if he couldn't see everything about them right now, what he could see was more than enough to leave him breathless and excited.
He'd flipped back and forth and zoomed in dozens of times before he realized just how long he'd left Zeke waiting for a response. He flipped back to the conversation frantically and laughed.

A few minutes passed with no response and Zeke was content to think that Oliver was doing exactly what he was doing - giving each photo his undivided attention and scouring each photo for the tiniest details. In the meantime the vet occupied himself with getting more comfortable on the couch, going from having his feet up on the coffee table to instead laying along the length of the seat and tossing the afghan that usually hung over the back over his own figure instead.
Finally a reply came through.

It's great to see right?! It's amazing to see the developments day by day when I go in to check on the growing ones. I'm excited to meet them too! Like I said, hopefully they'll keep up the pace and be born soon rather than do that little slow-down thing some Freis do when they're fast growers, but we'll see won't we?

Oliver flipped back to the first set of photos again and zoomed in on the head of his Raevan. The ears, though probably a little flattened down by the fluid around them, didn't look terribly fluffy. Maybe they'd have a smoother coat to them? He pursed his lips and tried to remember how Qudamah, the soul himself, had looked in life, and hummed.

I most certainly can!!! Is there anything in particular you want to know about the most? Also if you want more pictures I can do that too but to be honest with you Oliver they probably won't look too much different from the ones I sent you, unless you REALLY want me taking a selfie in front of their tank for some reason LOL!
Zeke was always more than happy to oblige such requests as they were made. He liked keeping the Guardians in the loop and felt it made things more close-knit and family-like, which was what everyone who was involved in the Lab was. As he fired off that newest text he had to give a little hum of thought. He wasn't quite sure what else this Frei would have in store from this point on. As far as everything looked, they were fully formed. Growth, if anything, might come in the form of their hair getting longer or maybe their wings getting bigger. Tiny details, but still oh so important to a Guardian on the cusp of having their Raevan be born.

Oliver couldn't help but laugh. To be honest, he didn't mind if Zeke took a selfie in front of the tank. The tank itself looked like something out of a sci-fi film, espescially the ones with human cloning. Having an actual human in the photo next to it would probably make it feel more real or less outlandish. ... But then again, maybe that would make it look more strange? He couldn't decide for sure.

The vet had to laugh at the end of Oliver's recent text. Oh there was so much he could teach this guy about the art of the perfect selfie! Perhaps on their next meeting...or, if that happened to be the Cheetah Frei's birth, the one following that!

Oliver burst out laughing and had to compose himself. Yes, indeed! Despite being a college professor, he didn't have much knowledge into selfies or youth culture these days. What he'd seen from his nephew was a small window into what seemed like a confusing web of anecdotes and pictures, most of which were heavily decorated or edited with apps that he really didn't want to download. Perhaps his son or daughter would help him navigate this, if they were interested in it at all? He didn't know whether to hope for that or not.

I'm rather embarrassed to say so, but yes! I may teach English and Literature at a college level, but by no means does that make me an expert on what's latest in fads and fashion. I'm not even a fan of most pop music! My niece and nephew balk at that. ]
He paused and thought for a moment. Did he have anything more to ask? He'd pretty much covered everything he'd brought at the beginning of the conversation. Perhaps he'd think of something else later, but for now, he was all out of things to ask.
