October is halfway over and that means one thing: Halloween! Shops are decorating, neighbors are covering their homes in fake spiderwebs, and pumpkin patches are showing up everywhere! Some neighbors seem to be avoiding the holiday and those have become targets for a few pranks. So what are you doing to get ready for Halloween Night?

Normally the only part of Halloween that Terry was particularly concerned about was what costume would he be dressing up as. Normally, that is, until this year. This time his Mom has asked him to go out shopping for some decorations that they could put into the yard as well as getting the candy for the trick or treaters. Matt was put in charge of the pumpkins only since he would be dealing mostly with his little league soccer team and that would cut into his time.

That said, Terry found himself at a Halloween decoration store with Seung in tow one evening. When they stepped into the store he looked around and made a beeline to the pick up a cut out of an arching black cat with an amused look on his face. “So what types of decorations should we get? I know we have a few from previous years back home packed away but a good chunk of them got damaged last year.”

Seung when he had moved in with Terry, and his family, had brought his own decorations with him. They’d been a part of what he’d picked up when the others father had brought him to his home to get his things. He had left the rest of the decorations where he’d set everything up, he wouldn’t undecorate the house. His cousin would still enjoy them.

Among those decorations were purple lights, fake webs, and a few fake bats...though after being attacked by bats he wasn’t sure he wanted to use. But he’d unpacked them and left them out in their room, since Terry’s bedroom was now their bedroom, so they could decorate their room abit. He hadn’t asked, when he’d moved in, if they decorated for the holiday or what they did as he was a bit hesitant to ask about how they celebrated things. It was still a fairly new holiday for himself so not celebrating was something he could handle, though he did rather like the holiday to be honest.

When Terry’s mother had mentioned decoration shopping he’d offered to go as well with her and Terry, wanting to spend some time out with Terry and especially his mother since she had taken him in and was now his family. He wanted to spend more time with her, and Terry’s father and brother, in order to get used to his new family.

Following Terry into the store he kept to his side, dark eyes looking all around, he tilted his head a bit at the question. “Nothing too scary….so everyone can enjoy...so not too young either.” Nothing too childish but nothing with a lot of gore either. A middle ground of some sort...but he didn’t really know what that would be.

Terry hummed in agreement with Seung. It would after all be better for everyone if it was a happy medium. “Let’s happily skip over any zombie decorations then, more of them have something gorey to them to help make them look the part.” He said as he put the cat cutout down. The young man then looked over to the store doors to see his Mother walk in after parking the car, having dropped them off at the front. “Should we skip any bat themed decorations seeing the trouble that happened with the swarm?” He asked his boyfriend, giving the other a slight worried look.

“Zombie too common...saw many at door last year and saw lots of it around town.” While walking around last year he’d seen a lot of houses, and a few stores even, that seemed to have that theme going on. Grabbing the cat cut out he handed it back to the other. “Can get this.” He answered with a smile. Glancing back as he heard the other's mother, he was glad she and her husband had taken him in. He had to wonder if it had been odd for them, having another couple living under their roof...to knowing what could or would or had been going on between them in the bedroom. He had wondered about it here and there since moving in but tried to ignore it, he understood why couples went to motels back home rather than going to someone's home...since both typically lived with their parents.

“Might bother some people if we did bats...maybe witch theme?” He asked, that way the cat could fit in also. He remembered watching the history of halloween last year, to understand the new. To him anyway, holiday better. He remembered cats fit in with witches and could remember how and why. So it would work.

“Would not be too bad but not too young.”

“Agreed, though probably part of their popularity is thanks to that Walking Dead tv show. Either way I’m glad we’re agreeing to avoid them.” Terry said with a smile then took the cut out that was handed to him. “Sounds good, should we grab a cart or a basket?” He asked, not sure just how much or how big of stuff they planned on getting. He say his Mom give them a smile then head off down an aisle on the other side of the store, one that had the costume in adult size then he turned his attention back to Seung.

“Witches would work. We could see if there are any cauldron stickers to put in the window since I remember them having them last year.” And if they went with the witches theme they could dress things up with a Harry Potter flare to help make things even more kid friendly.

Quote:
“Haven’t seen that show.” He had heard of it, especially in class, but it wasn’t something he’d seen. He wasn’t a fan of zombies...something about the undead and such bothered him a bit. It didn’t scare him but it did creep him out and make him wanna back away from such things. Maybe it was the gore as well...or just the dead flesh and such idea.

“Cart, so nothing gets broken.” Who knew what they’d be getting and a cart would afford more room, the ability to keep things separate and keep them from bending, in the case of the cut out, or being broken. “Black light for bedroom?” He asked looking at the other, questioning before he turned his focus on to other things.

“Brooms maybe, real...and cauldron...something just inside for people to see?” He asked, wanting to make something people would see when they answered the door. With everything which had happened in his life he hadn’t really gotten the time to sew anything for himself much less purchase, not that he liked the idea of purchasing a costume when he could easily make one.

Quote:
“I haven’t either, though it’s easy to see that it is popular even if I don’t get the appeal myself.” Terry said with a slight shrug of his shoulders. While he was fine with horror, he wasn’t one to sit and watch a horror/drama combination tv series that has been on for so long. That and he hear the formula for the show was rather repetitive. “Alright, cart it is then.” He said the moved over and got one of the near by carts, placing the cat cut out in it. “Sure, it could be fun to see what would react to it.” He said in reference to the black light.

“Might as well get at least one real broom so we could put it to use if need be in the future.” Terry said and nodded. “Maybe put some dry ice and either a light or food coloring or even both inside the cauldron?” He suggested, liking the idea of putting something in it like Seung said. “Oh that reminds me, I need to look at the costumes when we are done with the decorations, do you need to as well?”

Quote:
Seeing what would react to the black light, and how, would be interesting. He knew his white clothing would and anything dark red. Beyond that he really wasn’t sure, and he was curious. It wasn’t just that but it also added to the halloween feel...maybe? It was a novel idea really.

Nodding his head, laughing softly, at the idea of getting a real broom just so they could use it at a later date. Well, they could he supposed so they might as well. “Not a witch broom to use for real.” A witches broom, old fashioned as they were...would not do for actual cleaning purposes. But would forever serve as decoration. However, a real broom meant for cleaning wouldn’t be a bad idea.

“We could do that - make it look more real.” With the dry ice idea, he liked it. It wouldn’t cost a lot and would give a good look to whatever they created with their decorations. “Will use an old cosplay...don’t need anything new.” He still was going to make his cousin and sister their honbak for the Lunar New Year and...his own, even if he wouldn’t be going. He still wanted to make it. So for Halloween he would go back to an old cosplay of his, he had enough to choose from certainly.

“Ideas for yourself?” He asked looking at the other, as he’d been about to check out some more decorations.
