Prompt: You are just getting ready to head to sleep and you're all tucked in when something catches your eye. It's a strange shape, or light, in your room. It's only there for a second, but dread immediately floods through you. It was just a shadow, right? Maybe you pulled too many all nighters? Forgot you put up that new poster and thought it was something else?

...Or was it something else?

Either way, whatever you thought you saw was only there for that fleeting moment. What did you see? How do you react?

...Are you going to be able to sleep tonight?

Sunday - 9:00PM

The rain outside beat against the window pane with a sound similar to hundreds of tiny rodents running up the piece of glass, little nails pinging the smooth surface in a wash of white noise that would normally put her to sleep.

Not tonight... Not the previous night either…

To say that Breanna was still a bit shaken from the most recent attack that happened at the festival would be a vast understatement despite her best effort to appear unaffected. Usually so brave and willing to jump into the thick of everything without much of a second thought it seemed odd that she was so easy to startle these last few days; and that was without even trying to intentionally scare the pale haired girl.

Heck, earlier that day she had nearly had a heart attack when a bright red maple leaf fell from the tree and landed on her head at the bus stop. “Stupid leaf” she had muttered under her breath thinking it had been a bat wing brushing against the side of her face. Poor woman beside her seemed so confused but had chosen to say nothing as the bus approached and they both got on.

To a degree she felt a little bit like a child again as she glanced over at the pixar looking lamp perched upon her desk. Every time she looks outside, as the light from the street lamp catches a rain drop just right so it looks as it it glows, Breanna swore she saw something near the tree in their front yard. Twice she swore there was something in the tree, a large mass that caused a chill to run down her spine, but when she shone a flashlight on it she had been relieved to see it was only a raccoon.

Last night however she had a more unfortunate scare. Startled awake by a nightmare she had bolted upright and swung her feet off the side of the bed. Having forgot that she had discarded her dirty laundry beside her nightstand she nearly screamed thinking someone was laying on her floor.

“Ugh… I need sleep.” She groaned while pressing her hands to her face as she stifled a yawn. “Eh screw it.”

With pursed lips she grabbed her pillow and left her room. Turning off the lights as she stepped into the hallway Breana made a sharp left and stood toe-to-wood outside her sister's door. She quietly knocked on the door twice then turned the knob and stepped inside. “Fi?”

There was no reply so she said her twins name again but a little bit louder “Fi?”

“Hmmm?” Heavy laden with sleep Fiona groaned and with effort she opened her eyes. “Hey… are you okay?” Despite how dark it was the blunette’s brows furrowed in concern as she sat up enough to move over so Breanna could sit down.

“Yeah, I’m just having trouble sleeping and was kind of hoping I could sleep in here with you.” Embarrassed by having to ask she hugged her pillow against her chest despite already knowing what her sister would say. Fiona was kind like that and rarely turned her away, but there was always the chance this might not be the case.

“That’s fine. You’re lucky we no longer have our twin sized beds.” There was no way the two of them would fit side by side if that were the case. “Do you want to talk about it?” She asked, lifting up the comforter so Breanna could crawl under the sheets.

“Not really, I just really don’t like bats now. That’s all.” She commented as she settled in beside her twin with her back pressed against Fi in the same manner they use to when kids.

“If you’d like we can start patrolling the neighborhood before bed to make sure nothing’s out there.” Fiona offered while combing sleepy fingers through her sister's hair in an almost motherly fashion. Despite still not liking the thought of powering up she understood her twins fear and would do so because they were family, and that’s what you do for the people you care about.

“Yes please,” came a quiet reply.

“Okay, we will do that tomorrow then. Just try not to kick me in your sleep please.” Fiona teased since Bri had a tendency of stealing covers in the middle of the night.

Sleep came easy after that. Mere moments passed it seemed before two pairs of slate blue eyes drifted shut and a dreamless slumber set in for them both.
