Halloween Prompt
October is halfway over and that means one thing: Halloween! Shops are decorating, neighbors are covering their homes in fake spiderwebs, and pumpkin patches are showing up everywhere! Some neighbors seem to be avoiding the holiday and those have become targets for a few pranks. So what are you doing to get ready for Halloween Night?

Bailey loved Halloween. And this year was going to be the best Halloween ever! She was going to make sure of it! She already had her costume made [she was going to be Espeon!], and she was going to be helping Daniel’s father with something the day before Halloween. She was all sorts of excited, scampering around the house after school to help her Mom decorate for the party they would be having the next day.

“Where do you want the gravestones, Mommy?”

“Set up along the stairs, Bailey. Make sure they aren’t where someone can trip on them!” The pink-haired girl nodded excitedly and set about that task before moving to another one, looking more than a little proud next to her mother when all was finished, inside and out.

“This is gonna be awesome! Do you think this’ll impress everyone?” Rose reached down to ruffle her daughter’s hair, gentle smile on her face.

“They’ll love it. You are such a great artist, Bailey, they’ll be wowed!” The teen blushed and gave her mother a sheepish smile.

“Thanks, Mommy. I better go get the candy before the stores run out!” Grabbing her purse-of-the-week [a cute little pumpkin she’d made herself!], she scampered out the door, grabbing her helmet as she went and hopping on her bike. The trip didn’t take long, and she even made a stop by the library to pick up a few books [a couple more crafting books, and a couple of books on Día de Muertos].

The return trip had her pausing every now and then, admiring the other houses that had decided to get decked out to the nines. Some of them gave her ideas for the next year. Others made her feel a little self-conscious of she and her mother’s homemade decorations. And others still had her giggling at the giant inflatables and overdose of fake cobwebs. She was still giggling at the last house she’d looked at when she returned home, depositing the newly gotten candy in their respective bowls once she put her books away.

“What’s so funny, sweetie?” Her father looked over from where he’d been watching TV, brow raised.

“One of our neighbors had the funniest set up with their inflatables. It looked like they were trying to make a murder scene with minions, a werewolf, and the Pillsbury Dough Boy.” Thomas Jameson couldn’t help the snort that came from him.

“That sounds like bad fanfic fodder. How well did they succeed?” Bailey’s giggles intensified.

“Not very well. But they get an A for Effort!”

“Well, that’s something! Now, everything’s done, so go get your homework done. That way you don’t have anything for the weekend. And don’t forget you’re helping Daniel’s father after they get home from church on Sunday!”

“I haven’t forgotten! I’m really excited! I wanna try and learn more stuff for Daniel, after all!” And all the Día de Muertos stuff seemed interesting, anyways. Plus, CRAFTY STUFF. She was definitely looking forward to that! Jobs completed, she scooted upstairs to her room and her homework, intent on knocking it all out. Nothing was going to get in the way of an awesome Halloween weekend!
