Ryan was very busy this week. Everyone wanted a piece of the story and it was a quite a story to tell. He’d seen a few videos people had posted of the bats descent upon part of the city and he found himself irritated he hadn’t gone to the festival for a first hand encounter. He gone that night after having a video shoved in his face. Then again, with the sickness that came with the attack, he was okay with missing the actual attack. He had several interviews lined up. He had his tablet ready for jotting down quotes and his camera ready to take as many photos as he had space for. He really loved his job and felt he was doing well at it even though it meant many late nights. Too many especially since he was seeing things before bed.
The interviews weren’t terribly hard to get, he’d went to Destiny City University the day after the attack knowing he could easily grab some interviews from the students. He gave out his information wherever he could, mostly his email and he’d gotten more than a few bites. One of today's interviews was a guy named Seung and Ryan was currently waiting inside the cafe for him.

He hadn’t really planned on giving an interview, he was busy settling into Terry’s home after being kicked out of his parents Tuesday night. He hadn’t even been sure he wanted to go to the interview today, he’d signed up for it on Monday when still tired, exhausted really, but at least he’d been living at home still.
The memories from last night still filed his head and left him feeling shaky, not that he hadn’t done his fair share of physical shaking last night. When morning came he’d dragged himself from bed, exhausted and drained in every way possible, but he’d gotten himself through his morning routine and gotten to his first class. It was during his free time that he would be doing the interview about the bat incident, it seemed everyone in town was talking about it. He could understand why, it was a big event though this city seemed prone to big incidents happening.
Leaving campus as soon as he was out of class he’d made the walk to the cafe the journalist had suggested, something small and not too packed, as he checked his wallet again as he reached for the door handle and opened the door. Above his head a little bell chimed, signaling his entrance, as he took the time to let his eyes adjust to the dimmer lighting. His eyes, due to how puffy they were, didn’t have contacts in. His eyes were sore from the crying done last night, he didn’t want to agitate them on top of everything else.
The glance about told him just who he was looking for, since only one other person looked college age. Making his way over he gave a nod, to indicate he was the person Ryan was waiting for.

Ryan turned and when he heard the bell chime and in walked a young asian man with many piercing in his ear, sporting a hoodie. He gave a nod to Ryan and headed over, as Ry stood to greet him. He extended a hand, lilac eyes turning on him, a small inviting smile gracing his lips. He was nothing if not professional for the task at hand. “Seung, yes … sorry if I’ve pronouced it wrong and feel free to correct me. Thank you for agreeing to meet me. The media is an uproar about this and so I’m in on the action, working for the paper and all.”
He motioned to a chair at the table, “sit, I’ll order us a pot of coffee or some tea or hot chocolate if you like and we can get started. I hope not to take up too much of your time and get as accurate of an account as I can.”
He moved to sit, motioning to one of the wait staff.

Returning the handshake he shook his head. “It’s fine, name is hard to say for some.” He’d learned that, though he knew his younger cousin's name was harder than his own. When they had started school here, last September, he had felt sorry for his own teachers but even more so for her’s and for his sisters, before she had moved back to Korea. Their names were not as easy as his own.
“Of course, understand that.” he hadn’t planned on giving his story, figuring it was like how many others, but his cousin had told him that he should. He didn’t mention this to the other, of course, as he sat himself down. “Bubble tea if they have, please? Black tea flavor if they do.” He wasn’t much for coffee, he prefered teas and bubble tea was his personal favorite. He just hoped the order, if that’s what he got, came out well.
“Time is ok...not busy for another two hours.” In two hours he had another business class of his. He really needed to decide if business was the way he wanted to continue going. Did he want to throw out the money his parents had spent on his education thus far? On the time spent learning in one of the top universities back home? Those were all things to think about at a later date. He needed right now to do this, which was by comparison much simpler.
The messanger bag he carried was hung off the back of his chair as he watched the other go to place a drink order. Turning around in his seat, both hands placed on the table top, he let his dark eyes fall down to his hands. Slender digits and fair skin. He had a fresh bruise, small, on the back of his left hand. It wasn’t covered up by make up, as it was when he was around Terry. It was fading, thankfully, as he was regaining his energy. He still was cold though, hence the nice thick hoodie, and the sunlight still bothered his eyes more than it normally would. He’d heard they called it some vampire sickness, since it was associated with the bats and being bitten by them. He hoped there was nothing magical about this, and in this city wishing such a thing didn’t seem odd or crazy.

Ryan hadn’t ever had bubble tea before and for a moment he wondered if his fiance had and decided to ask him when he got home. For now he asked the waiter if they had any and Seung was lucky he supposed that they did. The waiter had explained that bubble tea was gaining in popularity with the city’s youth and it was a welcome addition to the cafe’s menu. He ordered two and turned to Seung grabbing up his tablet and a tablet pen ready to get started.
“I’m glad to know you don’t have to rush off, it’d be a shame if you did. Shall we get started then? You were at the festival that night, yes? A normal night, nothing out of the ordinary? Tell me about it, in general before the bats decided to descend upon the city.”
He wasn’t actually use to asking the questions even though he had minored in journalism, photography was his major. He was qualified, just not practiced, but with so many people affected it was easy for him and his partner to split the work and he was certainly eager.

When the other returned, drinks in hand, he took his and stabbing the straw into the top he sipped at it for a moment before nodding his head. “Yes, was a normal night. I was with younger cousin, just walking around. All was normal - nothing off...sometimes heard noise from construction...when music wasn’t playing.” Since the music had been rather loud and had drown out the sounds of the construction.
“Was on line for a ride, can’t remember which, when people started to scream. Looking up we saw the bats and saw them coming down on people. They looked very...fierce and angry, teeth showing - ears back.” Like an angry, violent, dog that wanted to just attack. “Some hid but couldn’t stay hidden - not when bigger ones came. It was like bigger ones were...waiting for the smaller to start and do damage...make it easier maybe?” He didn’t know but it had seemed liek they’d been working together in some way - very strange.
Another sip of his drink and he sat back watching the other, hoping he was understood by the other. He knew his accent, and some of the butchering of the English language, could be hard to understand but had it been for Ryan?

Ryan listened to Seung and understood him quite well. He grew up with Australian parents who both had accents, something which people only heard in him when he was angry. To top that off his fiancee was Russian and both his parents had Russian accents. He was quite use to such thing. He hadn’t any trouble understanding Seung and quickly jotted down notes.
“That doesn't sound very plausible, but I’ve lived through many things in this city so sadly it's not so far fetched. Weirder things have happened, like the monster dogs at an anime convention or the giant octopus in the town all.”
He sipped the bubble tea and found it cool and sweet, it was nice. Not something he would get regularly, but maybe the odd snack every so often, it was agreeable.
“From what I gather the construction nearby disturbed the nest and the bats when a little berserk, maybe trying to protect their young or something. I hear they are trying to figure out relocation plans, but most aren’t overly willing to mess with the bats after what happened.”
“How did you fair with the bats flying about attacking people, some people seem to have fall ill after being bitten, but it seems to be wearing off.”

“Don’t know about them. New to this city. Had heard many things happen here, but not what. Heard the city was dangerous - I didn’t think to worry about bats.” Who would? Bats were normally small and fairly harmless. Who would expect such large bats and for them to attack in such numbers or in the manner in which they had? It was...insane really.
“Don’t know, never seen bats so big...flying foxes but not bats.” Flying foxes weren’t bats, although they looked like bats - his cousin had told him as much. “Didn’t know bats could get that big.” Maybe they could but as far as he knew...they couldn’t especially not ones here.
“Was in the hospital, passed out at the fair. My cousin brought me, with medical to the hospital.” She had gone in the ambulance with him, for which he was thankful. He was glad to have someone with him there. “Yes, have heard of that. Energy has been low, is getting better. Still cold and sun is too bright.”

Ryan nodded and felt a little bad for the guy actually, Destiny City was not the city to move too, if he was honest with himself. The threat of death seemed to be around every corner. He was surprised to hear Seung talk about the size, honestly he had heard they were big, but flying foxes gave a more accurate size depiction. He would have to cross reference in his next interviews.
“That must have been quite a scare or was it the bite that you passed out from. If the bite is still visible I would like to take a picture if you will allow, for the article. There have been various people with injuries and I’ve been as a photojournalist, taking pictures for the article.”
“He sat back, I can see why they call in Vampire sickness. It almost makes me wonder if garlic would worsen the condition of those affected. As weird as that may sound, but hell this is wholly weird situation anyway.”
He jotted down the note, wanting to make sure to ask, maybe he could grab an interview at the hospital with one of the doctors.

“Was the bite….took blood.” Like a vampire bat, but those bats didn’t get nearly as big as what he’d seen. How many other species of abt drank blood...were there any others? He honestly wasn’t sure, though he was sure his cousin had but he couldn’t find out now. Shifting a bit in his seat he pulled off his hoodies, slowly, the back of the garment coming into view with it’s design that looked like a nutritional value sheet.
The bite mark was shown when he tugged his shirt down just enough to show his left side collar bone area. “Is why they call it vampire sickness. Bats drank blood, not just bit people.” The marks indicated good size teeth but it was thankfully fading but it still didn’t look all that friendly either. “Little nips mostly gone. This still not.” He’d gotten bitten by the bigger bat, and drained till he’d passed out, while making sure his younger cousin was alright.
Fixing his shirt, hoodie in his lap, he settled for having his drink and waiting for the next question. He’d told Terry he’d be giving this interview earlier, assuring the other he could go on his own - he’d be fine.

Ryan took up his camera when Seung made to show him the bite. Days later it looked much better than the ones he’d seen on victims that first night. He took a few quick pictures while Seung spoke, before jotting down what he was saying on his tablet.
“There is some worry of another attack or even bats in other places. I've heard from a few that they are not feeling quite safe especially with Halloween approaching. They do not want their children or themselves out and about if something like this could happen again.”
He sipped his tea quickly before continuing, “ have you any worries? I mean most college students will be out and about halloween weekend and many will be out that night.”

It was a bit...odd having the injuries photographed but he knew this would happen when he’d accepted the interview. So he didn’t say anything, ignored it even, as he sipped at his drink. The other was writing something down while he enjoyed the drink, even more than normal since it was paid for by someone else.
“How many others you’ve asked about it? They are all well?” He asked curious, and also slightly concerned for the unknown people. They had all been through the same thing, or at least something very similar, so it wasn’t any wonder why he felt as he did.

“If you are unconcerned, then I certainly do not wish to make you worry. I honestly can't say how many people I've asked as well. It's certainly more than a handful not to mention the interviews my partner has done.”
He jotted down a few more notes, “everyone seems well enough. That night some seemed worse for wear, but we've done a few follow up interviews and everyone, even those with worries are healing up just fine.”
He put down his tablet and tucked the pen away, “I think that should be enough, unless you have anything you would like to add. I think we can wrap this up and be on our way. Thank you very much for agreeing to meet with me.”

“Glad to know they are doing better.” That was good for them all. It seemed the only thing any of them had suffered after the attack was the vampire illness, as it was called, and he was getting over it himself. He was sure he’d be over it fully soon, he was mostly better now.
“Nothing else. Can’t think of anything stand out.” He answered. He wished there had been something, anything which was off or different. If there was something which could prove to him what he felt, that they weren’t bats that were normal around here...that the attack wasn’t normal, he’d be happy. But there was nothing but his own misgivings about it. It just didn’t feel right.
Standing he held out a hand. “Thank you for talking to me...have a good day.” Seung waited for Ryan to leave before he did so as well, nearly finished drink in hand. He had a class to head for, he didn’t want to be late.
