October is halfway over and that means one thing: Halloween! Shops are decorating, neighbors are covering their homes in fake spiderwebs, and pumpkin patches are showing up everywhere! Some neighbors seem to be avoiding the holiday and those have become targets for a few pranks. So what are you doing to get ready for Halloween Night?
Odessa propped her knee up onto the apartment door, and hefted the last box from the moving truck up onto it. She scrabbled in her pocked for the key to her new door. Nothing, except some lint. She let out a long sigh, and slowly let her knee down, easy the box to the ground. "Really? I had to leave them in the truck? ... Of course I did."
She grumbled to herself, leaning against the door for a moment. Moving sucked, but moving alone when you were so good at forgetting small details was just ... a joy. The red head shook her head, a half smile on her face. It was just par for the course. "I wanted to come and live here. I'm going to have to get it together. " She glanced up and down the hall. No one was around, but there were lots of Halloween decorations out. The next suite over had plastic pumpkins, and the one across from her a wreath made of bat garland. That turned her half smile into a full smile.
Odessa had always liked the idea of Halloween. Plus, pumpkin carving was a blast. You got to express yourself, and pretty much everything looked good. And if you screwed it up, whatever, it was just a pumpkin. Glancing around again, she decided to just leave the last box in the hall until she could grab her keys. It didn't seem like anyone was around. She walked over the elevator, punching the down button repeatedly until she could hear the elevator moving.
Odessa was pretty sure she'd spotted a green grocer on the corner. They'd be bound to have pumpkins this time of year. Once she'd unpacked the essentials, she'd go and buy on to carve. Maybe she'd stick it on her balcony. Or maybe in the hall? That could be decided once it was done, though. The door to the elevator slid open. Inside she hammered on the basement button until the elevator was moving. She didn't like leaving her box of stuff in the hall like that, but she also wasn't about to haul it back down to the moving truck and then back up again. She'd hauled enough stuff up and down today, as far as she was concerned. The elevator dinged and the door opened. Thankfully she'd gotten a parking spot right by the door, so her trip to the truck was fast enough that the elevator was still in place once she'd retrieved her keys. "Now maybe I won't forget anything else today. That'd be a treat."
A touch more button pounding, and she was back on her own floor. As the door slid open with another ding, she was quite surprised by the site of her box. Someone had drawn a grinning Jack-o-Lantern face on it in sharpie. She laughed quietly to herself. "At least the neighbors have a sense of humor! ... But I better get on carving that pumpkin before someone tries to TP my door. " She turned her retrieved keys into the door, and walked into her new apartment, debating whether she should unpack some stuff first, or just carve her pumpkin.
