Aeuri was coming of age, and as a result was also coming to terms with the reality of the world. His protective household, filled with his family and the dancers of the Red, gave him no warning of the world outside the walls. Sure, as he grew up he realized that there were people who disliked him. Obans looked down upon him, the higher bred ones raised to see him as weak, dirty, an abomination. As a child, he didn't realize exactly what they were saying; he knew his siblings were his life and his parents loved him. It didn't matter.

But now, as he was growing and learning on his own, he realized the reality of the world. And he hated it.

His father told him to keep his chin up, his mother told him to stay strong and proud, and Itotia told him to carry a knife and fight back. But as he walked through the streets away from his schooling, he kept his head low and tried to hide his anguish. The teasing words, the mocking threats, they were all so angry and rude and he felt broken to know how much someone hated him for his sand colored hair and pale crystals.

Taking a moment, he pushed himself against the walls, hiding in the shadows and wishing he would have brought his cloak today to school. Sure, they normally weren't this bad, but it seemed as if the children finally realized he was different, and out of the triplets he had become a target.

Aeuri scowled, before letting out a deep breath and smacking the back of his head against the wall lightly in an effort to express his frustration.

Masika was on her way back from the market where she'd bought new ribbons for a project she was working on when she noticed a boy with light colored hair and dark skin. She had never seen the color on an Oban so she wondered if he was a hybrid of some kind. If so they the mix was quite pretty. Then she saw him smack his head off the wall that he was leaning against. That was enough to make her pause and look around, lips pressed together, then look back. Was there something wrong? Was he lost? Upset? As people walked past they rustled the flowing layers of her dress, making it look as though the lighter fabrics floated on air.

The blue skinned hybrid took a moment longer where she stood them moved toward the boy. Masika smiled politely at him and said, "Usually people just scratch an itch with their hands." It was her miserable attempt at being funny. Though she did hope that it would prevent the boy from banging his head against the wall any farther.

Aeuri heard someone approach, but assumed they'd look past him like most did in the market. However, as the soft voice spoke up, he ground his teeth in frustration and an effort to hide his embarrassment. Thankfully, the dark features his father gave him hid the blush, but his brow still furrowed as he kept his eyes closed to collect himself.

When he finally opened his eyes, he didn't quite believe the person standing before him. She looked Matori, but had such strange features with soft green markings and long antanne from her hair. Was she a hybrid? And if so, what was she doing wandering around Oba out in the open. As he studied her outfit, she didn't seem to be a dancer or entertainer, which meant she was a foreigner. Looking both ways, he swallowed a moment, before her words registered.

Had he waited too long?

Taking a breath, he straightened slightly, before shaking his head and his sandy hair.

"Ah...erm...I wasn't trying to scratch my head..." he said weakly, biting his lip a moment before taking a breath and channeling the poise of his mother. He could do this.

She watched him as he seemed to take notice of her looks, looking away only after a few seconds of meeting his gaze. Masika had learned that most people stared but looking away too quickly suggested she was ashamed of the way she looked and she wasn't. When she noticed him move his head she looked back and chuckled at his words. "No, I didn't think you were. I'm sorry I was trying, and failing apparently, to be funny." Her head moved to the side a small degree and her gaze dropped to his lips as he bit the bottom one.

"If I'm bothering you I can leave." Her free hand came up to point a thumb over her shoulder and behind her. "I just didn't want you to injure your head." Masika was no healer, even if she did know a few spells. Blood and things of the like made her squeamish to the point of fainting.

Aeuri continued to look her over, being reassured when she didn't make direct eye contact with him. It made it easy to not feel self-conscious when looking at her green speckled skin. He for sure knew that it was not a typical Matori color, and the antenna set her apart and made him certain what she was. He may be a bit shy, and uncertain with Obans, but he knew his hybrids.

"I'm fine...you're part Alkidike, aren't you?" He asked quickly, eyes wide and he finally took her in and nodded, "I've never really seen a hybrid like you...but I guess I'm not very common either...mostly there are Matori mixes from before the war..."

As he trailed off, he swallowed, before remembering the manners instilled into him by his grandmother, "I'm Aeuri, and I am not trying to hurt myself. It's nice to meet you...can I escort you back to where you are staying?"

It was a gentlemanly thing to do, plus he didn't want her to run into any...unsavory Obans along the way, at least not alone.

When he asked if she was part Alkidike she nodded her head but waited until he spoke more about hybrids and the fact that he wasn't a common sight either. "You won't see anyone else like me. I have a twin sister but she looks much different than I do." So basically she was part of a set as far as her hybrid mix went, but she was one of a kind in the looks department. "I'm sorry, I can tell you are part Oban but the light colored hair eludes me." Masika wondered which earthling tribe he got it from. "It looks very nice though." She was almost envious of it.

Her hand now went to the strand of black hair that lay over her shoulder and twisted it around her fingers as she lowered her gaze to it. It was plain black. No highlights of another color, no interesting hues. Still, she did love it since it mirrored both her parents.

"Aeuri, I'm Masika." She gripped the skirts of her dress and held them as she gave him a small curtsy. His offer to escort her made her look back at the walking crowd for a moment before she smiled and brought her eyes to his face. "It's a bit of a long walk." Especially since she wasn't staying in the nicer part of the city. She couldn't afford it yet.

He was curious now, and took a long moment to really look her over. Yes, she didn't look like any of the dancers or musicians at the Red, and he believed her claim that she was unique like him. With that, he gradually showed her a smile before she made the comment about his hair.

"My mother is from Sauti. She runs a local entertainment establishment, and that's how she met my father. She's a dancer, and he's a captain of the Oban army."

The words spilled out, routine now, and he paused a moment when he realized he was rambling.

"Masika." He repeated her name as well, nodding, "That is a very nice name."

Peering around, he waved off her concern, "I'm very used to this city, and not too worried about getting back. Please, it'd be my pleasure."

Sauti? Masika thought for a moment about the region. She'd heard of it from her mother but had never been there. Though if the people from that area had that light colored hair it would be worth the trip. Then he said that his mother was a dancer and her smile brightened. "Oh! I bet she's lovely." Especially if she caught the eye of a captain. Masika was interested in his story so when he paused she blinked. However, when he seemed to change the subject to her name she nodded happily.

"Thank you, it means born in the rain." She was pleased with it's meaning since it was in honor of her water earthling side. As he told her that he was used to the city she looked around once and bit down on her bottom lip. Masika didn't want the boy to get lost after getting her home. "Alright.. as long as you promise to return home right after. I wouldn't want anything to happen to you because of me."
