He'd never really considered the walk home from campus to his small apartment to be particularly dangerous or at all creepy but something had felt strange since he'd left the library that evening. At first he figured it was left over from what he'd been reading, books about death cults and civilitations that enjoyed human sacrifices would do that, but that hadn't ever bothered him before. It seemed less and less likely that the books were the case as it started to feel more and more like someone was following him. Even now after being away for five years his fears from Destiny City seemed to follow him.
"I am not some paranoid idiot..." He muttered to himself. Despite that he paused by a shop window, pretending to look inside, as he watched the street behind him. There was a figure a bit away down the street but that wasn't that odd. It wasn't that late. It was a bit odd though that the figure also stopped as he did and as he turned to continue down the street the figure did the same.
He shivered slightly, pretending it was from the chilly night, and turned down a side street. He was in just the right position to see the shadow turn down the same street in the reflection of the shop windows. This was bullshit and he wasn't going to be stalked by some idiot who probably wanted some halloween prank.
Ducking around the corner of the block he leaned against the wall, determined to wait out whoever was following him. He stuffed his hands in his hoodie pocket and waited.
It only took a while before he started to get annoyed and pulled out a hand to check his watch. It didn't take five minuts to make it down the side street and whoever was following him should have come out by now. Risking someone sticking their face out to scare him he leaned back around the corner to see who was coming down the street.
"What the...."
The street was empty, street lights and show windows glittering warmly without a soul in sight. He knew the stalker had been behind him when he'd turned the corner.
"Yep, paranoid. Completely." Whoever had been 'following' him must have just gone into a shop and he'd been imagining things. That was it.
Running a hand through his hair he pushed off the wall and continued on his way back to his apartment. Within moments of continuing his walk the feeling was back and without thinking about it first he looked over his soulder. Behind him was the same strange figure slowly making their way after him. Clenching his hands he stopped and turned around.
He opened his mouth to yell at the person, not in the mood to deal with this kind of bullshit, but the figure was gone. There were a few other shoppers heading the other way with their bags but no strange shadowy figure.
Shaking his head agian he spun around and picked up his pace back home. He could still feel someone watching him, that feeling of being followed, but clinched his hands and refused to look behind him again. When he reached his apartment he dug out his keys, fumbling them slightly as the feeling got worse and worse, before finally getting them in the hole and the door open.
He slammed the door behind him once he was inside, flipping the lock, and leaning against it for a few moments. He expected to hear banging on the door or yelling and could tell he was still tensed up in fear as he wanted but nothing happened. The longer he stood with his back against the door the more the feeling started to go away until he was left feeling stupid that he would even think someone had been following him.
There was no Negaverse in Brittan.
Taking a deep breath and letting it out he kicked off his shoes before going to drop himself onto the couch. When he pulled out his phone he had a text from his cousin, asking how finals went, and an emal reminding him that he could still by one of the plane tickets he'd been pricing earlier in the day. Cordelia had been asking him for months when he was going to come back home and he'd been putting off answering her. It had been nice not dealing with being attacked and all of the idiocy. The longer he stayed away though the more he kept thinking about when it was all going to come back and bite him. He doubted the Negaverse was going to stay in the US along for long and it was only a matter of time.
He sent a message back to Cordy letting her know that finals were fine and he was rather sure he'd be graduating with Honours and that he'd let her know exactly what and how when he got the offical scores.
Maybe, now that he was technally done with school, it was time to head back home ....
