Legendary Quest: Jacinthus

|| This quest is a CYOA style prompt.
|| There will be five to six rounds in which the character must respond.
|| If you have questions feel free to ask Suhuba.

IC ||

The world wasn't always like this... ancient legends that are no longer known in Tendaji describe that the world was once cold, over crowded, and with buildings that were trying to dominate the sky. Once the world was much bigger and yet... felt small as what were once called humans moved about their daily lives.

There was life, but clouds of smog and acid rain was threatening the very existence of those who lived there. Hatred and war threatened to destroy everything. Air raid sirens were a daily occurrence, the sound of gun shots ringing through the streets. Society... was on the verge of collapsing.

But even in this darkest hour, things change, events occurred and now the world was saved by a very specific tree. Deep under the earth's new crust lay something... or things that are better left undisturbed. But even things that are forgotten have a way... of coming back to light.

In today's world Tendaji is much smaller than what the world once had been, no longer referred to as 'humans', their descendants were Earthlings, with crystals growing from their skin and a wide variety of new cultures springing forth from the rubble of Old Earth. Your character is such that had seen many things during their life time but the events of this one day... could only be described as Legendary.

You may choose one of the following options to write about:

A) Your character stumbles upon a 'rift' that will transport the character to a new location. You will decide how they find it and where its location is. Most rifts 'shimmer' and are transparent and hard to see. About six feet in height and three feet across these narrow slices of powerful magic open and close ripping the fabric of space and time. (Please note these rifts are often in strange and often isolated locations. On the edge of a cliff, deep inside a cave, high on remote mountain tops are some examples. These rifts open and close randomly and once used are often not found in the same place twice.)

B) Your character discovers and touches a sacred artifact or relic that will transport the character to a new location. These items can be ornate or even dull in appearance. They can be found anywhere on Tendaji and humm with a special sort of magical energy. Once touched the item loses its magical properties and no longer work.

C) A spell backfires. The spell is usually complex and never been attempted before by either your character or a NPC. It can involve several npcs trying to accomplish a bigger spell, or trying to create a new spell altogether. Once cast it seems to stop time for the briefest of moments and the magic engulfs only your character before it transports them to a new location. (Please keep in mind that these are 'freak' accidents in magic. Impossible to replicate more than once.)

You must write a minimum of 300 words and no more than 1k words to this round of the prompt. Please end your response with your character being transported and nothing beyond that.

Jacinthus had prepared as he always did before a hunt. He'd filled his pack with various rations such as dried meat and fruit, he got himself a couple of good water skins filled with pure water, and gathered some 'just in case' bandages. One could never be too prepared when they were going after something as big as Jacinthus would be shooting for... so to speak. He'd decided that today's target was going to be a Kinfa due to the fact that he needed something big that would feed his own family as well as a family living in the village that needed a bit of help when it came to feeding their many little ones.

After grabbing his travois which was leaning against the tree his home was located in he'd started off, finding signs of the large birds easily enough, and set to following along after them from a distance as they flew around. If he was lucky he would be able to follow them right back to their nests and not only get the meant that they would get Kinfa meat but he would also be able to get his hands on some of their eggs. He had to admit that he had a bit of a weakness when it came to Kinfa eggs, finding them to be one of his favorite foods if only because they were such a pain to get your hands on. His hunt was a slow going one since it involved beasts that flew way over head but he didn't mind, so long as he could figure out where they were making roost that was all that mattered... though a good two hours into his hunt he found himself distracted.

Jacinthus wasn't a kid anymore, he wasn't the sort that was easily distracted by things, nor was he the sort that could be pulled away from a hunt so easily, but he found himself in a familiar old place. It was a place that he hadn't visited in ages. Once upon a time ago he'd come here as a prentice to help out a youngling that had gotten herself into trouble. He'd ended up getting himself into trouble as well given he'd been followed within by witu and still bore scars on his backside from their teeth. Just a little peek, for nostalgia's sake he thought to himself as he leaned his travois against the outside of the rocky structure and went about squeezing his way through the small opening into the rocky structure. He recalled it being easier to get inside last time but he supposed he was a lot smaller then, wasn't he?

Walking around he found himself following the path to the wall that he'd climbed to escape the witu, he could see the ledge that he and the youngling had sat on once they were safely up there. It was surreal being back here he thought to himself as he decided to explore just a little further. The only time he was here before he hadn't really gone far inside. It was a quick in and out to save the girl, no exploring involved. Now that he was doing so he found himself a little intrigued. It could make for a good look out point if those in Yera were to take it over, fix it up, and build some ladders to make it a cinch to get to the top of the structure. As he was thinking on this, eyes on the tall walls of the structure, he didn't realized that the ground he was walking on was a bit cracked and not all that structurally sound... and he failed to notice it until the ground shifted beneath his feet.

Looking down at the first cracking, crumbling sounds Jacinthus whirled around, about to retreat... when the ground beneath his feet gave way, dropping him into a cave below. He landed, hard, and gave a little grown. Had the fall been any worse he might have really gotten injured but as it were it was mostly his pride that took a hit. Pushing to his feet he looked up, from side to side, and started forward down a dark, cramped sort of path. It had be the way out, or so he hoped, because otherwise he might be waiting a while for rescue... and having to be rescued at his age was just embarrassing.

Here was to hoping that the tunnel he was squeezing his way through would actually turn out to be the exit but he found himself a little worried. The air smelled stale down here, there was no light save for what came in behind him, didn't that mean he was going the wrong way entirely? Once he'd finally managed to get himself out of the tight tunnel and into the next room he dug into his pack, getting out the needed items to start a smile, burning some of the bandages he had with him after wrapping them around a pair of his arrows.

After inspecting the room he was in he found himself in with his makeshift torch he found only one thing to be in the room. It seemed... odd. A weird shimmering rip in the air that screamed of magic. It was something Jacinthus knew nothing about so he really aught to just leave it alone. He'd go back, maybe try to climb out, and bring Takoda back here so that he could figure out what it was? That seemed the safest idea he thought to himself though he took a couple steps closer, just to get a better look in the torch light. Best to get a good description to bring back to his mate.

Famous last words as the strange, magical anomaly seemed to almost sense that Jacinthus was there and its size sudden swelled, engulfing the ranger within itself...

Legendary Quest: Choice 2

IC ||

There had been a bright light, it felt as if your body was being torn in two and your mind stabbed with a sharp pain. As things settle you feel yourself back on solid earth and when your eyes open you are dazed by the low level of lighting. Your eyes adjust and you can see the giant mushrooms glow eerily in blues and greens and can feel the humid air surrounding you.

You are far beneath Tendaji, under a vast system of roots, where an underground forest exists. With a ceiling of roots and soil, the creatures here lived in this cavernous forest system without natural sunlight. Instead, crystals grow throughout the cavern, illuminating the air from the ceilings above as well as the ground under their feet. The forest and its caverns range from the northernmost area of Jauhar, stretching all the way down to the cities of Oba and to the east under the soft ground of Tale. Sprouting out in random areas are graveyard cities and towns, places overgrown with foliage but once home to the humans of Earth.

Looking up you can see the tall shadows of... you're not quite sure what they are... rectangular in shape they reach high up into the cavern. You are on what appears to be a ledge; the 'city', or the ruins that were left of it, start deep below you and stretch outwards before you. There is hardly any sounds, and there is no obvious way back to where you came from. No portal, relic or spell. In the distance one of the tall strange shadows begin to move.

You can hear the echo of its steps amidst the quiet of the large underground cavernous forest. It... must be huge no... colossal and it was moving very slowly and carefully.

Please choose one of the following options to write about.

A) Your character decides that there is little point to sticking around and waiting to be rescued. As far as you can tell there is no way back so perhaps it was better to head down the path to the left and head towards the giant beast. Maybe it is friendly? With this in mind you move forward taking note of your surroundings as you went. It is quiet except for the steady sound of the foot falls in the distance. They get louder as you approach and the earth shakes with each footfall.

B) Your character decides not to be rash and to explore current surroundings before heading deeper into the ruins. There is a path to the right and traveling down it you discover that the buildings are a mixture of rock and metal and what appeared to be glass. The forest that has grown in and amongst these ghost like structures are sturdy and it is hard to believe that they grew without the aid of the sun. It is quiet except for the steady sound of the foot falls in the distance. They get louder as you explore and the earth shakes with each footfall.

C) This is crazy and your character decides they are better off trying to find a way back. They don't want anything to do with this place and their primary objective is to get back home. It turns out that they had appeared on a ledge with two branching paths, both of which happen to go down and towards the creepy city. You try to replicate how you got there in the first place, but the sound of foot falls distracts you, maybe it was better to get out of the open. Taking either path will basically take you down into the decrepit city...

As the strange, magical anomaly finally dissipated Jacinthus that he was no longer in the cave that he'd started out in. Instead he was... well, he wasn't really sure where he was. It took his eyes a moment to adjust before he found that he was somewhere underground? It looked and smelled that way, with everything having the musty scent of earth to it. He couldn't feel any breeze either, making him wonder exactly how he was supposed to get out of here. He spent a full minute standing there, debating over what it was that he should be doing. There was little to no chance that anyone would be searching for him here. They would check the area where he'd left the travois, maybe even within the rocky structure, but would they explore as far as that magical anomaly? Would they even know what to do once they got to it? Would Takoda...?

He gave a rapid shake of his head. No, no... he was a grown man, he couldn't allow himself to get distracted or allow fear to take him. He had to concentrate and figure out what he was going to do now that he was trapped within this strange, underground forest. It was as he really started to look that he realized that there was more to this place then just the forest though. There was light, something he hadn't really focused on before, that seemed to come from glowing crystals that were growing scattered around the large cavern. Then there were the buildings... massive, buildings that seemed to reach up higher then some of the trees in Jauhar. They spoke of being able to house many people... but they were all so quiet, to the point that it made a chill go up his spine. So many buildings, but all of them were empty.

It was about that time, as he was taking in the last of any sort of life within the buildings that the world seemed to shake from... footsteps? The idea that something that big was moving around made his eyes going a bit wide before his hand was instantly going for his bow, taking it off of his shoulder before he started forward. While he might be rash for him to not stand still, as there was that very small chance that Takoda might come looking, he knew he couldn't wait. What if whatever that was came to where he'd appeared? What if it meant to make a meal of him? He was better off moving, maybe he could find a place to hide among the buildings or a maybe he could climb up into one of them, and figure exactly what he was dealing with as far as the massive being was concerned?

As he moved, creeping along the empty, deathly silent path he found himself thinking back to the first real adventure that he'd ever gone on. Hadn't that ended with them in a cave fighting off some Legendary Beast? It was then, when Takoda had done such massive damage to the beast with that magic of his, that he'd started to get a real crush on him. How he wished that Takoda were here now he thought to himself... though at the same time he was glad that he wasn't. As much as his magical know how would be useful right now what would they do if the massive beast ended up being a bug the size of these buildings? His poor mate would probably faint dead away and he'd have to carry him out. A thought that came to mind to help poor Jacinthus keep from panicking.

He continued moving forward, leaning against one of the buildings, finding it to be rather cold against his back, made up of metal and glass instead of the warmer, more alive feeling elements that they used back home. It was just one more thing that made this place feel so cold and lifeless to the Ranger. For the moment the only thing that truly felt 'alive' was the thing able to make the very group shake under its feet. Pushing off the cold building he continued forward, looking for a means in which he could get higher. While he wasn't sure if he'd be able to really get the 'high ground' against something that sounded so big he would still try. He needed to get a look and feel for what he was dealing with after all and, were it far too much for him to handle, the high perch would give him an idea of the lay out of the cavern. That should help him as far as finding a path out of here and away from the giant beast was concerned.

Legendary Quest: Choice 3

IC ||

As you go down deeper into the decrepit city you realize that these stone structures look like buildings, unfathomably tall with many square holes that... you guess were once windows. With no light they seem like empty eye sockets staring into the depths of the void. This place gives you the shivers as if countless voices had suddenly been silenced.

As you continue through you can't help but notice that the place is eerily quiet. Despite evidence of there being creatures down here none choose to grace you with their presence, perhaps it was the sound of heavy foot falls that had caused them to vacate the premises, perhaps it was your presence that they feared the most. Distracting yourself you look at the countless 'things' that littered the area, you can only guess the purpose and uses of such things and upon closer inspection you realize this isn't just an abandoned city... it was a graveyard.

Countless bones could be found inside the buildings and amongst the roots of the strange trees. It is alarming to think about the sheer number of them... but the beast is suddenly upon you. It is colossal and strangely humanoid in shape, with glowing eyes perhaps to help it see in the dark, its large ears swivel in your direction as if listening intently. Although not as tall as the broken buildings it rivaled them to an extent, and it was certainly bigger than anything that you had seen in Tendaji. It seems to be studying you, perhaps it was intelligent, and then... lifting its one massive fist brings it down upon you.

Please choose one of the following options to write about.

A) This beast is NOT friendly. In fact it seems pretty intent on killing you. Despite its massive size you decide to try to fight back, it is trying to kill you after all. Its seems to be impervious to projectiles and blades do little to its thick hide. Magic seems to annoy it greatly but doesn't actually hurt it. Despite all of this you fight back trying to dissuade it from attacking you further although it seems a fruitless task. Your biggest advantage is the creature moves slowly, but each one of its attacks seems calculated and very accurate, this thing is much smarter than it appeared.

B) Your decide to flee for your life and hope the beast doesn't pursue you! You avoid the downward thrust of its fist miraculously and try to escape by moving past and around it. The creature being so large has limited maneuverability in these tight quarters perhaps it will be too slow to keep up with you! Out running it may be your only option to stay alive!

C) After dodging the fist you try and hide! Anywhere will do, even these creepy buildings! Hiding at the best of your ability, the creature seems to have lost sight of you... but it seems to know you're in the area and is intent on searching for you.

*****

The sheer size of the creature that appeared before him was something but was even more strange and somewhat intimidating was its form. It was somewhat humanoid, wasn't it? It walked up right in a manner that he'd not seen before with the beasts that he hunted. It seemed fairly fast for something that size as well, not to mention intelligent as it came at him. The swing of its fist was something he was barely able to dodge out of the way of and when it hit the ground everything seemed to shake for a moment. It was a good sign that he really should retreat.

Sure, there was that part of Jacinthus that wanted nothing more then to stand up against the massive beast and attempt to take it down he he knew better. He wasn't a fool, nor was he a prentice anymore. He knew full well that standing face to face against something the size of this thing was folly and that he would never get home if he weren't careful. His bones were going to end up entombed here with countless others if he wasn't careful. It wasn't a fate that he could allow since he had a mate and a daughter waiting for him back home, not to mention his sister and her sons, there were too many people waiting for him. He had to go about this more carefully and if he were going to try to take the thing on he had to do so in a manner that wasn't so face to face.

He had to be sneaky. He had to treat this like he were hunting something as intelligent as Jacinthus himself was because it seemed to be that smart. Much to his displeasure he found that the best place to hide out at the moment was within the nearest of the buildings even if that meant that he had to step into what was essentially a mass grave. For the moment it at least seemed as though he'd escaped the gaze of the massive beast but he knew that it wasn't going to just let him go. As such he had to continue looking for a way out of this place.

Giving a glance from side to side he found himself wanting to apologize to those whose bones these were. The last thing that he wanted to do was disturb their final resting place but he couldn't stay outside. He felt that outside and in the open was where the giant beast had the most advantage. Perhaps from within the tentative safety of these buildings he'd be able to find chances to take some shots at the creature? He wasn't sure how he was supposed to take something that size down with mere arrows but he couldn't give up either. He needed to try to get a good look at the thing, to size it up, search for weaknesses. All while he kept moving he told himself, feeling that if he stood still too long that the creature was going to catch up with him and attempt once more to smash him with its massive fists.

He'd seek an opening if he could, take shots if he could, but he felt that for the time being his main focus should be keeping an eye out for an exit too small for the beast to fit into. That or another magical anomaly that might take him home. Jacinthus was good either way.

The creature is still intently looking for you even as you try to slip away. Whether it is able to locate you by smell, sight, or hearing it's hard to say. But for now you're safe. Right? Though the creature seems able to hone in on your location, you quickly dart to a new spot allowing you several hallowing minutes of safety before being driven to find a new one. The creature is resilient and unwilling to give up the hunt for you. While hiding you realize the footfalls have stopped, you hear... a voice? Daring to take a look the beast is much closer than you thought it was, seeing it so close catches your breath but it's the figure in front of it that currently draws your focus.

Abnormally tall, even taller than the Alkidike from Tendaji she raises a hand towards the creature and utters a few soft words. The creatures stoops to get to eye level with her as if trying to get a better look at the newcomer. More soft words are spoken as she gently lays a hand on what you presume is the creature's nose. More words, a language that seems oddly familiar and yet off. Perhaps it was the accent? Gesturing the creature gives a final evaluating look in your direction before it straightens and turns away, moving away its heavy foot falls weaken as it recedes.

You realize she... has a tail and though it looked like hair you can see that it isn't. Instead she has what appears to be vines and flowering plants adorning her scalp, her clothes are... certainly unique and though she is flat chested there is something about her demeanor that reads as feminine. Once the creature had begun its trek back to wherever it had come from the woman now... began her search for you. Though she wasn't about to play hide in seek, instead she spoke out.

"How did ju 'et 'ere?" Her english feels broken as if this is her first time using it in a long time. "Why 're ju 'ere?" She inquires more persistently and although she didn't appear to have any weapon in her hands and didn't give off a hostile stance, there is an urgency in her voice that betrays her unease with your presence. She awaits for you tor reveal yourself.

Please choose one of the following options to write about.

A) You decide it's better to befriend this stranger who just saved your life than to attack her. Perhaps she has some idea on how to get out of here. You explain how you got here, and inquire about the beast and how she managed to control it. She seems genuinely confused about what you mean, as she tries to explain as best as she is able that the Guardian was not controlled but could listen to reason. It is here to protect this place from outsiders... to prevent another catastrophe from occurring. What catastrophe she doesn't elaborate on but by looking around you can sense something big had happened here. She gestures for you to follow her to where you are unsure but it was away from the beast and away from your original starting point, perhaps she knew the way out.

B) You decide it's best to keep your distance, you don't know where she came from, how she found you or how she managed to control the beast. She is so alien from anything you had seen before it's hard for you to trust her even as she tries to coax you in her own broken english that it was safe and that you didn't have to worry. It seems better to just leave, and go back to finding a way back familiar lands. Food and water would become a concern if you can't find your way out promptly. No sense in wasting time listening to a strange creature when you could be getting out. As you leave however the woman tails you and unaware to you... is herding you away from the beast and where you appeared from originally.

Jacinthus was keeping ahead of the massive creature, though barely. The times he was able to take a moment to breath didn't seem to last long and he knew that they were becoming a drain on what little water he'd brought with him in his water skin. He would need to keep an eye out for water to replace what he was using but he found himself wondering how he would go about that. Surely the water down here couldn't be safe to drink meaning it would need to be boiled... but boiling the water required fire and that would be sure to bring the beast straight to him. He would have to think of something else or else he was really looking at having to kill the thing somehow.

After dealing with it for what felt like forever, and the few shots he got off seemingly just bouncing off its hide, he was starting to think that the only way to cause real damage would be to go for the eyes, open mouth, and possibly the nostrils. Given how tall the creature was all of those shots sounded as though they could be quite difficult, meaning that killing the thing might take some time. The longer it took the quicker his supplies would dwindle. This wasn't working out well at all, was it? He was supposed to be on a hunt for kinfa, not giant monsters, he was not prepared for this at all! Jacinthus hated not being prepared because it made him feel like a prentice again, a time in which he didn't have things together like he did now.

As the beast came close to the newest place that he'd found to take a breather, that being the small path between two of the large, hauntingly empty buildings, he wanted nothing more then to curse at it for being so relentless. If his life wasn't in danger he might almost be impressed by how determined it was in the hunt as well as how good it was at it. If he survived he could be impressed later, right now he was just annoyed and perhaps a bit fearful. At least until he heard a strange voice cutting through the air.

It was a voice that drew Jacinthus's attention but it also seemed to draw the attention of the massive beast which seemed to cease following him much to Jacin's surprised. Peeking out of his current hiding spot he saw what looked to be a really, really tall humanoid, one that he felt might be female if only by the way she was moving. She seemed to be some sort of strange, plant like being... or at least one that plants were growing on? It was hard to tell from a distance. All he knew for certain was that she'd somehow managed to tame the giant beast with but a few words. It was impressive if a tough worrisome at the same time. Was something that size really at her beck and call? It sure seemed that was as a few words from her actually caused the beast to just... leave.

Then her odd eyes were turning his way as she spoke to him in a somewhat broken version of his own language. He took a step out of the allyway, taking a couple of slow and cautious steps toward her. It didn't seem as though she was out to get him, did it? If she wanted his head she'd of helped the giant beast to finish him off instead of aiding him. Still, he meant to be careful never the less. As she asked him how and why he was here he tried to explain best that he could, though even he was positive on how he'd ended up here. The best that he had was 'a strange magical anomaly' before he started to ask about the giant monster and how she'd tamed such a beast to her hand. Much to his surprise it seemed that the beast wasn't just a monster, it was something called a 'Guardian'. After having been chased all over this empty graveyard he had to wonder what it was a Guardian of... the dead, perhaps?

At her sudden gesture he gave a little nod, moving to follow along behind her, his still flickering from side to side. He wanted to believe that she was going to help him but it would be silly of him to be too trusting right out of the gate. He'd follow her for a while and see if she really meant to help him or if she was trying to lead him back to her own people so he could become dinner for the strange tailed tribe. As it seemed that they were just going back to where he started out Jacinthus said, "The thing that dragged me here is gone now." He thought on it for a moment then asked, "Unless the actual exit is this way?" He hadn't had a chance to really look around before the 'Guardian' had showed up so it could be. That would be... embarrassing to say the least.

Legendary Quest: Choice 5

IC ||

Whether corralled or led willingly, you're back on the ledge from where you were originally dropped. The city looms out like the graveyard you now know it to be. The strange being with her hair like roots and strange clothes with even stranger facial features finally stops you where you are.

She starts to speak to you, "Dis world is older dan 'ju know." She gestures out to the expanse behind her with the strange underground forest and glowing crystals wrapped around and through the buildings. "Ju don't remember, but we do." She emphasized 'we', so there must be more than just this figure before you. She continues to tell her tale. The world was wrought with war, the people of earth were destroying themselves slowly, until finally a group launched a disease that changed the very makeup of the planet. The humans of earth began to die off, until scientists created the tree now known as Aisha, the mother of the Alkidike. This tree... it gave life back to the world. But by the time the pollutants had been filtered away by Aisha'a grace, the humans were no longer called humans. They were now the earthlings of Tendaji. The history and science of Earth was lost, there were too few to retain any of the advanced engineering of the old world.

At this the strange woman pauses. It seems as if she is caused grief, but whatever it is, she won't divulge it to you. She seems to skip over the rest of the history that led up to the present day world of Tendaji, and calls out to you once more. "Ju don't belong 'ere." She reaches out and with a gentle tap she touches your skin.

There is a warm glow from the point of impact, it simmers through you and you can feel the heat building. The heat turns into a tingling, and then... it stops. She looks at you with almost a look of warm affection, like she wants you to stay but she knows you cannot.

"It is time now." She trails off...

Please choose one of the following options to write about.

A) The warm feeling from being touched throws you off guard. You stumble backwards, losing your footing and falling. You expect to hit ground, but a light sparks up from behind you, and you're suddenly going through the portal again, the shimmering light engulfing you and takes you home. You land with a thud and one of the first things you notice is your own appearance. Something has happened. When she touched you, it changed you... [Pease allow for introspection and the realization of the changes in your character. The touch from this woman has granted them their legendary trait!]

B) You're almost comforted by the warm touch, but you're not really sure why. She waved her hand once more and the portal opens behind you. "It is time to go 'ome." The light is blinding at first after all of the dim light in the underground forest. You step through, landing on the other side with a soft drop to the ground and realize you're back in Tendaji. One of the first things you notice is your own appearance. Something has happened. When she touched you, it changed you... [Pease allow for introspection and the realization of the changes in your character. The touch from this woman has granted them their legendary trait!]

*****

It was a sad story that the strange woman was telling, one of the old world, a war that seemed to be ravaged by war, and for a moment Jacinthus could only think of the present day. Were they doomed to repeat passed mistakes then? It seemed that presently and back in the ancient time that she spoke of there was war after war. To the point where Jacinthus had just gotten sick of it, sick of fighting. He hadn't picked up a bow to kill after all, he'd done so to protect others and see that everyone was fed. Did the people of the past think the same way as him? Did they only fight because they had people to protect or were they a more war mongering people they 'humans'? It was really hard to say since that was so long ago, to the point where it seemed their civilization was buried deep.

As she continued, telling him how the world was saved, that it was by the tree called Aisha, he was genuinely surprised. That particular being, Aisha, was an Alkidike thing. The tree saved all of Tendaji and yet she was taken possession by such a dangerous race... though he supposed that not all of them were so bad. The worst among them had been banished after all, though who knew for how long that would last. Since they were alive the zealots were still a threat, meaning that they might very well be dragged into yet another conflict. A thought that he quashed as he didn't want to think too hard on the fact that one day they were going to have to fight again.

As she told him that he didn't belong here he gave a nod, "I know. I should actually be hunting. I know that I can't leave it to my mate alone since he isn't the sort that likes the idea of hunting." Takoda was a kind soul, the sort that made Jacinthus believe in the good in people. It was his influence that allowed Jacinthus to follow this woman instead of being so uncertain and mistrusting of her that he couldn't do so. He wanted to get back to him, away from the haunting, skeleton filled graveyard, away from the Guardian, and back where he belonged. It was odd though, that it seemed this woman was almost sad about the idea of him having to go. Should he have said something different? Offered to stick around to spend time with her? To chat for a bit since it seemed as though she almost didn't want him to go.

Such thoughts were lost on him as she suddenly reached out to him, giving him a little tap on the shoulder. It was but a brief touch and yet the sensation left behind was a one that was indescribable. It were as though heat was spreading through out his person from the point where she'd given him the little tap... and his reaction was for him to whirl around to attempt to face her. An attempt that ended in failure as he slipped, pitching over backwards off the ledge that he'd been standing on with her. His eyes went wide, one arm reaching out toward her as though attempting to catch himself as he fell. It was a fall that he expected to end in a catastrophic manner, the sort filled with pain and broken bones... but instead he was being swallowed up once more by that magical anomaly that had sucked him in earlier. Was she the cause of that magical rift? Had she brought him to the underground forest on purpose, so she could tell him that old story? His final thoughts before he was suddenly being spat out of the other side of the portal.

He landed in a heap inside of the rocky out cropping. He wasn't in the spot where he'd been sucked up but instead in the spot that he'd gotten bitten by the witu so long ago. He lay there for a moment, stunned, before he lifted his hands up to shield his eyes from the light that seemed far too bright. How long...? How long had he been gone? It felt like a long time but how long had it actually been? Longer then his hunt should have been? Was Takoda worried about him? Was he searching for him? What about Korra, was she alright? And those that he was supposed to be fetching kinfa meat for?

Sitting up slowly he set to rubbing at his eyes before lowering them into his lap, blinking rapidly as he saw spots... then jolted to his feet when he realized the spots weren't sun spots. No, they were something else, something that seemed to a part of his skin now. These marks were familiar to him, he'd seen them before on the hides of various beasts. They helped to hide predators when they were hunting for prey, they were the marks that belonged to a hunter... a hunter like the one that Jacinthus was.

The marks were something that proved that what he'd just experienced wasn't a dream. It had all been real as crazy as it seemed, with the spots as proof it the strange journey that he'd been on. Lifting a hand he set to tracing some of the marks. She'd given him this gift, hadn't she? It was the moment that she'd touched him, the moment in which he'd been filled with that near overwhelming warmth right before his fall. The question became 'why' though. Why had she brought him there, if she was the one who had done so? Why did she tell him the story that she had when it would be a story he couldn't really share with others? Who would believe him after all if he tried to tell people that the Alkidike's Tree Goddess was created ages ago by 'humans'? He'd be branded as crazy at best and the Alkidike were sure to take offense to such a claim.

Best to keep such a thing to himself but at the same time he couldn't really just ignore away the spots that marked his person. How to explain such strange markings? He supposed that he could always tell the truth but again, who would believe him? A strange woman in an underground forest gave the markings to him as some sort of parting gift? What suddenly mattered the most was what Takoda thought of him at the moment. Surely the markings of a predator wouldn't turn him off, would they? Jacinthus had always been a hunter on the inside after all, now he was just one on the outside as well. So long as Takoda didn't care about the markings that he was now marked with then he didn't care either. Actually far from that, in fact he meant to take full advantage of what they were. Such markings aided predators because they aided in breaking up ones silhouette, allowing them to hide in the shadows and tall grass. He'd become a more effective hunter and he'd be able to better serve his people if they worked as well for Jacinthus as they did for various predatory beasts.

There was only one way to really find out... which was to continue on with his kinfa hunt. Something that he meant to do once he'd checked in at home, made sure that his family was alright, and figure out exactly how long he'd been away. If it wasn't long and they were all alright then he meant to get back to hunting. The kinfa weren't going to hunt themselves after all and there were plenty of hungry mouths in Yera that needed feeding.
