 Frey had decided that he must have hit his head some time during the last few months. After all being more social got you more headache than it was worth. Not to mention, and he supposed here it was the season, but seriously he had enough of haunted houses. It wasn’t bad enough that he had to design one. Nope… he had to now create one. How had he ended up like this again? Oh yeah the class had wanted to help the festival and apparently after hearing Frey’s mishaps had decided the best course was to torment him again and build a haunted house. Okay so Frey wasn’t part of the building crew. Nope he had to design the Haunted house. He groaned barely resisting the urge for a face palm and turned towards his partner. Well he should probably figure out their strengths. After all if they were going to get this started then he was going to do a good job on it. “Okay let’s get started… since we’re building this thing. What are your strengths?”

 Mai did groan and barely resisted the urge to bang her head into the table. Seriously… seriously they were going to create a haunted house? A haunted house of all things, which meant working with people, and working with people meant when you suddenly got sick due to your poor immune system they didn’t understand and got mad at you for bailing. Even worse is she had apparently drawn the straw for the creative committee. She got to design the Haunted House and then the rest of the little worker bees… uh students would then create her and her partner’s vision. This… was… the… worst… idea in history. Seriously. Oh wait her partner… Frey? Or at least that was the name that she could have sworn was called out every day when attendance was called. Anyways Frey was talking to her.
“Well that would be getting really sick and plants” Mai replied. Frey looked like he had swallowed a really bad Lemon. Mai seriously didn’t blame him. Why couldn’t they have just had really hard tests? Tests were nice and a park walk compared to designing things.

So a person who was good with hair and a girl who was good with plants were designing a… hmm actually this might not be such a bad idea. A haunted house, at least a good one took a while to design. Haunted Hallows was just around the corner and some of the festivities had really already started. Maybe they could convince the teacher that a Haunted house wasn’t the way to go, with a haunted maze. You could use fewer items. You didn’t have to worry about walls and windows and other things on top of adding all sorts of different elements to your haunted house. Ah but then they would still have to design a maze… and where they going to get all the materials for one? Maybe it wasnt such a good idea
“Why did this have to be our class assignment? Couldn’t this have been voluntary? Couldn’t they have just gone around and asked the different clubs instead?” Frey muttered underneath his breath. He wasn’t aware it had been out loud until Mai sudden suppressed a chuckle with her hand.

“It’s okay. We’ll make this work” Mai replied. Sure she was really only good at keeping plants alive and arranging flowers and truth be told she was always weak when it came to horror but… people were counting on her and she didn’t want to be seen as a failure. She’d figure out something.
“What if we went around town and instead of building ask if we can use one of the empty buildings. Obviously we have to make sure it’s safe but it would probably work better than trying to get control of the gym or building something from scratch. I’ve never designed a festival attraction before but I know a couple of them are already up and going maybe we can go and do research or something. See what works and what scares us?” She trailed off at the end seeing the stunted look of horror briefly cross Frey’s face. “Or… not”

Frey sighed and ran a hand through his hair. It wasn’t like Mai knew he had a sudden aversion to Haunted houses due to being stuck in one recently. However it was a good idea to brainstorm and see what other people did. See what was too cheesy and what they could possibly do and Frey always did think better when he was able move around.
“No you have some really good ideas. It’s just recently I had a bad experience with one was all. However we only have a couple days to hand over our ideas and meet with the other planning teams. Well it’s not too late in the day shall we at least look around town a bit? See what would be good candidates?”

Ah so it wasn’t her idea, that was good. However now that he mentioned it, there was something about having bad experience in a haunted house that she had heard recently. Ah well It wasn’t important and probably wasn’t the same experience anyways. Frey did have a point. It would be good to get a fair share of the touring done today and leave tomorrow for the actual planning, especially since she was planning on going to the festival herself with Vanna and Ren.
“Alright then, let’s start right now? After all we are wasting time and Below doesn’t get much light anyways” Mai pointed out, definitely wanting to avoid walking through a haunted house or catching out/walking by a building during nighttime.

So they went… of course because the universe hated Frey the first place they went by was a Haunted house, and of course it was for the more senior oriented students/older villagers so it was more on the scary side he supposed. Mai didn’t handle well at all, although Frey had to give her Kudos for not melting down and only latching on to his arm twice. They did also find a couple of different buildings that might be a good place to build the haunted house and they came with cobwebs already installed….
Yeah probably not the best places, there was a bookstore that had a creepy feeling to it, and Frey slightly recalled his freshling years that they had let the building be used for haunted houses and other spooky events. Maybe they could bring up the bookstore as a place to the class and get people to come to it again.
“Okay so I think we’re good at least for possible building places?” Frey stated wanting to have at least checked one thing off their list. Plus he actually really kind of wanted to see if they could help that bookstore.

Ugh why had she ever suggested touring Haunted houses? She had mentioned she was weak to horror right? Even if it was just to herself. Luckily Frey hadn’t minded the few times she had caught circulation in his arm and she didn’t startle too badly. The searching for possible sites was a walk in the park compared to that haunted house. Still she could have done without the spider webs. She was extremely girly in that regard. The book store was awesome though and she could tell that Frey really liked it. It was sad that it looked so deserted.
“We have…?” Mai started and then remembered how Frey had been reacting as they walked through it. “Oh you really want to host it at the bookstore. I agree. The bookstore would be fun, and it’s already in a sort of maze like pattern. Less to design”

“It would be, and I guess I’m just being nostalgic. I remember going there as a little kind with the caretakers.” Frey pointed out glad that Mai at least seemed to be on the same boat. “Okay so possibly building places found is a check…. And we know what not to do for Haunted houses… or at least a couple things not to do” which didn’t really help them with the what to do? However thinking back on it, the creepy mirrors seemed to have been a hit with their little tour party.
“Or what not to do if you don’t want to cut off the circulation in your partners arm”
“Ahem you were fine. I would have said something if it wast…” Frey replied. Then again he was a litch, and they were supposed to have dampened pain receptors... huh. Anyways not important. "So I guess tomorrow we tackle the haunted houses after school?”

Mai still wasn’t sure that Frey was just trying to be polite but it was no use continuing it on anymore.. She was not looking forward to the haunted houses tomorrow, but it had been her idea and she was going to figure out what to do for the haunted house and get ideas if it killed her… still…..
“We really are the worst people for this” Mai sighed and had to chuckle when Frey just nodded his head in agreement. Still She had faith they’d pull through… somehow… hopefully. They had figured out a place, that was a good start right? Hmmm Mai had a feeling that a call to her sibling was going to be in order. Ugh why couldn’t they had just been assigned a test.
