He heard the knock at the door, the brief intrusion into his thoughts as he sat in the apartment examine the small journal that he’d found on his bed. It seemed so small, but it contained so much. He closed it and set it on a side table blinking, rubbing at his eyes and going to the door.
He opened it first on the chain, to see who it was.
“Hello?”
“oh!” He sort of knew her, a familiar face from the Ball.
“Hi!”

Vega hated asking for help, but when she potentially had a job, well. She wasn't going to let her own pride hold her back from potentially having cash. She hesitated before knocking on this guy's door. She saw him a couple times, and he'd always seemed really nice, so she prayed he wouldn't turn out to be some kind of sick freak who'd murder her or something. So she'd knocked, lightly, but hopefully loud enough to be heard. She didn't know if he was asleep, after all. Her heart was pounding as she waited for some sign the dude was home. Paint splattered arms hugged her clothes to her and when the door finally opened as much as the chain would let it, she flashed a bright smile. "Hey! Look. I'm Vega, and no, we never formally met. But okay, listen. I got an interview tomorrow, right? So I'd really like to uh borrow your shower?"

He blinked at that, and glanced her over. Ironically his expression was one that suggested he might be making sure she wasn’t an Axe murderer or something but apparently she passed muster. He nodded and closed the door long enough to undo the chain and then opened it for her to step in. “We um… we … do you need anything else? I - I mean I should probably make some lunch and things and the box makes way too much if you’re alright with mac and cheese.”

Okay so that look was to be expected. Vega wasn't about to judge someone for judging her. She did just randomly knock. Whatever. When he nodded, her face lit up like a light and she waited patiently while he unlocked it. Stepping in, she glanced around the place and then back at her host. "Well, honestly, I love mac and cheese. So I mean if you don't mind sharing with a stranger, sure! I'm down for it."

“I promise if I minded I wouldn’t answer.” He grinned a little shyly. “I um - your hair is amazing.” He added as he led her to show her where the bathroom was. Small but functional, and fished out a fresh towel for her. “The, the silver bottle there should be good for not stripping color out of your hair, I know it works ok with my purples and blues and my Roomie works in a salon so… I think she knows what she’s talking about. The red bar there that looks like soap is actually conditioner. Oh!” He fished in a drawer and added a wash cloth to the pile. “Did you need anything else?” He asked tipping his head.

Oh God, so much information. Vega tried to hurry up and log it as he said it before she gave a smirk. "Thanks, do it myself when I can get the dye on the up and up, ya 'know? Yours tho." She whistled, looking at his hair. "It's uh, pretty freaking amazing. ...What's your name?" Slowly she took down her hair and shook it out, grimacing at how it basically stayed up in the clippy shape. Oops. "Guess it's been a while," she said sheepishly. "Uuuh, no? Silver good for hair, bar is actually conditioner, which is a little weird if you ask me, but like..." She shrugged. "Whatever works works. Uuuh right, any weird kinks? Like hot is actually cold or you have to have it like.. I don't know. Showers are weird and different."

“ Umm.. I wouldn’t turn it past about -“ He squinted at the handle. “nnn…11 o’clock unless you really really like being a lobster. It’s slow to warm up but when it does it has a direct line to hell” “Thank you though! I used to do it all myself but now my roomie helps me. I got a few more colors in and the ombre turned out better with some extra hands I admit. Also I didn’t have smurf arms beyond where the gloves cover. He gave an embarrassed laugh. "Oh! and I'm Zac, pleased to meet you."

"Zac? Sweet." She winked at him and clutched her close to her chest a bit more. "Yeah, man, it looks really good. Maybe when I get some cash together I'll swing by and see what else we can do to this." She pointed at her hair and then laughed. "Okay. ...One more thing. Do you have a washer? I'll totally give you a painting, like a really awesome one after my interview. But clean clothes.." She looked down to her painted and worn clothes before the clothes in her arm, which looked nice and offered those to him. Yeah, she felt like she was asking so much of him, but at least she wasn't going to crash here. That'd be pushing it for a first meeting. At least, in her mind.

“OH! Yes! Yes we do! Umm…clothes. Um.” He waved his hands clearly nervous. “Um… follow me! I think you’l fit most of what I have if that’s not like…creepy.” He moved past her and led her to a near by room, simple “So you can wash up and wear clean things um, are you ok with skirts? I have a really nice cotton wrap skirt, um… leggings I have leggings. I’ll let you pick.” He opened the small closet and stepped aside. It was carried in style, skirts, pants, t-shirts hoodies. Even one hanging on the door that had a simple design of white dots that read ‘Mostly void, partly stars’.

She relaxed when he said he'd wash her clothes. That made her feel a ton better. Still, she looked a little awkward, following him around and nodding. "Yeah that works. Like, skirts. It's whatever." Vega was just going to wear it and give it back to him. Her eyes were drawn to the partly stars shirt and she slowly reached up and touched it. "...Can..I borrow this one?" It was a nice shirt. She loved galaxies and stars and things like that. "I mean I promise I'll give it back." Which was hard for her to do, promise. She wanted her own awesome shirts like this. One day. "Thanks again, Zac. This is ...like, so much you're doing for a stranger."

“Yes! You can absolutely borrow it!” He nodded. “I - here.” He fished in his closet and brought out a long blue skirt, the hem of which was pattered with stars, sort of galaxy meets bohemian. And as a counterpoint he offered her deep space leggings, galaxies printed in blues and purples over a deeper navy. “Pick one? Or I have some jeans but they might be small. I just think they are fun to wear with that shirt if you wanted.” He did watch the way she eyed the shirt though, and rubbed his arm thoughtful. “It’s - I mean you haven’t tried to axe murder me, and thats a good start. Everyone starts out as a stranger. Maybe I just feel like - “ He shrugged. “Like life is too short to do some things, and not long enough to do others. So, yeah, life is… too short not to share some mac and cheese with someone who needs a hand and a shower.”

She turned and looked at the skirt versus the leggings and casually grabbed the leggings. "I don't have much of a figure, so leggings probably work." With the leggings and shirt firmly in her hands, Vega grinned and looked like she just won the lottery. "I mean.. You're not trying to boss me around, so. You're an okay guy." And then he mentioned the mac and cheese again and she just beamed and nodded. She swayed on her feet and then sighed. "So I'll.. put my clothes by the door if you wanna wash these with those. Uh. No special way to wash them. Just so long as they smell clean." Getting stains off her normal clothes was hard enough. But she had her nice blouse there and she took painstaking care to make sure nothing stained it. "...Yeah. So. Shower. I'll see you when I get out. Uuuh I sing so if it's horrible and off key feel free to throw something at me and tell me to shut up." With that, she held out her spare clothes for Zac to take and then moved to skirt back to the bathroom.

He grinned. “If you um… want me to wash all the things just toss the rest out of the bathroom and I’ll add it in too.” He offered “And I’ll get food cooking while you get cleaned up, sound good?” He offered. From there, he did go to the kitchen. It was just boxed mac and cheese, but he also fund some potato-bread buns for hot dogs and warmed them up to go with, setting out some soda as an offering to go with. Hell, making new friends with random people who needed a shower had to be less strange than anything that came out of Other ash down, right? Likely when she came out, He'd be reviewing the strange journal he had found on his bed before.

That. That made much more sense. She nodded and saluted before disappearing behind the bathroom door. A few moments later a pile of clothes sat to one side and the shower could be heard already. Vega took time in shampooing her hair. She washed it twice (with the minimum amount of shampoo her hair took) and the last one she let it sit there while she scrubbed up. Even taking her time, Vega only took about fifteen minutes. (Sure the first five were spent getting the water right, but still!) Eventually she emerged dressed in the leggings and shirt, sighing comfortably with her damp towel wrapped around her head. "I left the cloth folded up and like.. uh. On.. the.. edge of the tub?" Her skin was clear of paint, and now he saw her with absolutely no make up on and only her studs in her ears. "I left my earring, the dangling one? I left it on the counter and when my hair's dry I'll put it back in.." Of course she headed immediately for the kitchen because something smelled really good and she was trying to find the source. It was very reminiscent of a dog looking around a grill when a barbecue was happening.

He stopped for a moment, his cheeks warming slightly before he offered her a bowl. “Was it a good shower?” He offered. “Have a seat! Um… Do you paint a lot? That seemed to be sort of an accessory before, it was kind of cool. Edge of the tub is totally fine by the way. “Here! Um, salt and pepper right here, if you want other condiments let me know, I made hot dogs and there is some soda and things.” He took his own seat and carefully adjusted the arrangement of the condiments on the counter. “SO!… I mean, we haven’t really talked before either, but is it okay to say, you look familiar? There was a, Ball?” He said carefully.”
