Sanidine had given Bellite a run down on powering up and down, escorted her to one of the few cafes that were still open, and bought her whatever she wanted. He wasn't too hungry but grabbed some coffee and a small snack for himself. They'd practiced powering up and then he showed her teleportation--to Negaspace.

Evan was already waiting in Sanidine's makeshift office by the time they showed up.

Sanidine's office was in the castle; he promised Bellite a tour at some point but wanted to get through everything else, first. His introduction to the Negaverse hadn't been easy and he'd had to figure everything out on his own.

He wasn't going to make her do that--especially not when Evan was involved.

Sanidine spent a few hours giving her the basic rundown--explaining what the Negaverse was and how they were tasked with keeping the world safe from Senshi--alien invaders. He explained what Senshi and Knights were, how they could get stronger and grow in rank, branches for when she was ready, General Kings and Queens--he talked until his mouth was dry.

He went through teleportation and fighting (and promised to spar with her). Evan stayed in her lap the whole time, just wagging his tail, sniffing her drink and pastries.

Sanidine saved youma for last.

"Youma, like Evan," he nodded, "Can happen for any number of reasons, I guess. When you get to much Chaos in your starseed, this can happen. Evan was an accident, though." His eyes were downcast and he was tapping on his desk quietly as he sifted through his words, choosing them carefully. "Someone was targeting him, and he wasn't strong enough to take care of himself. He could have better protected himself if he was in the Negaverse, but...things didn't happen that way. The Chaos didn't work right. But. I'm looking after him now. He's the most useless personal youma in the world" --Evan made a face, like he was pouting, and just slumped closer to Bellite; Sanidine continued, "But I like it that way. He was never a fighter, and I don't want him to get himself hurt. But the only way to do that is to try and get him back to being a human again."

He sighed; Evan clearly wanted to stay awake and listen, but his eyelids were drooping. Sanidine didn't know if youma needed to sleep, but he figured it might have just been in Evan's head.

"...He might not have been as cute as a human, but he wasn't too bad. And damn, he could cook. And he was always there, worrying about people. Huge chicken, though." His lips tightened. "I miss him. I owe it to him to fix him. So that's where we're at with that, I'll get you all my notes so you can read over them. But."

He looked back up at her. "Now's a good time for questions if you have them. I know I went on a lot, and it's a lot to take in, but we've got all night. And tomorrow, and however long you need, if you need a break."

Bellite had listened without interruption, and continued to stroke Evan while he rested in her lap. So he had been a person, a person who had been good at cooking…that sounded so terrible. The poor little thing…He didn’t seem useless. Clearly Sanidine cared a lot for him, but even more clearly, he didn’t like to show feelings at all.

When her General finally stopped talking, she drew in a breath and blew it out, rather loudly. “Well. First things first…do you have a library here? Are there records? Is there any sort of…Negaverse? That’s the name right? Is there a Negaverse handbook? If there is, I would like one.”

She fell quiet again, glancing around the office. “This place is kind of amazing. I’m looking forward to getting a tour of this place as well. Is there anyone that you know who is in this organization who has a background in Library sciences…maybe we could work together on how to save Evan…” It seemed like a good idea, to see what her resources were, and her general seemed like he wanted to give her a good start, and he had said she could ask questions…

And if he hadn’t figured it out by now, well, clearly he didn’t know how to save him either, so she was at the very least trying to think outside the box.

Sanidine nodded. "Huge library, full of more junk than you can handle. I'll show you to it. The downside is, while you're a lieutenant, you won't be able to get down here on your own--you'll need someone to teleport you. When you get a promotion, you can take yourself, but until then just text me and I'll take you to and from."

He reached for the receipt from their cafe trip and scribbled his phone number on it before sliding it over to her.

"The handbook's gotta stay down there, but you'll have free access to it. If you've got a smart phone you can snap pictures of it, just don't let anyone see you. They keep things hidden as best they can--just to make sure our information doesn't get in the wrong hands. But I'll play lookout for you if you want to take some pictures real quick."

He was trying not to sound too desperate to help Evan, so he'd purposely saved his comments about that for last. "I don't necessarily know of anyone who is in Library Sciences, but we can ask around. One of the branches---Information? They deal a lot with the intelligence stuff. Chances are they might know the most--but there's no guarantee. To be honest..."

He was quiet for a moment and then shrugged. "You're the first person I've asked for help. Most people just don't give a s**t about the youma." Or, at least, that was the lie he was telling himself. The truth was, he didn't like people to know that this was his ********>

Bellite’s eyes lit up at the affirmation that there was indeed a library down here. That was perfect. There had to be so much information in the library, and if she could get access to it, well…she was quite sure she could find something to help this poor kid with.

Her hands ran down his furry back once more, just wanting to provide the little creature with as much comfort as she could.

“Well, good. There’s information that I can access…and you say that there’s a full branch just dedicated to information? That sounds perfect to me, honestly.” There was no doubt in her mind now, if there was a library, and a whole group dedicated to simply gathering information…well. This was the perfect place for her.

“We will save him, General Sanidine, don’t you worry. You’re not in this alone now, you have me and I will try every route that I can think of until we save him. I’m pretty good at finding things out, if I do say so myself.” She took the phone number and read it over, before folding it up and keeping it in her hand.

“How long have you been…doing all of this…and just for my own sake, how often am I allowed to call you to bring me here? Can I stay here without you? Like if I came down for my weekend or something and just…lived in the library for a few days, would that be all right?”

Evan stirred; apparently he had fallen asleep in her lap and forgotten where he was. He smacked his lips together and yawned, letting out a low, purring sound before he curled up into a tiny ball and pressed against her. He liked having something warm to sleep against, and though he'd been so happy to listen to their conversation earlier it seemed like he was just too worn out, now.

Sanidine glanced at him, but kept his attention mostly focused on Bellite. "Your optimism is reassuring," he told her, and managed to flash an almost real smile.

He knew they'd find some way to do this. He just didn't know what he'd have to give up to get Evan back.

Right now, he couldn't think of any price to high.

"You can call me whenever you want. I work at nights, at a bar, but I can text you my schedule and we can work something out. I haven't been sleeping much, so it's not like you'll be disrupting my schedule. If you wanted to stay down here for a few days, I think you could? To be honest, I've never tried it. It gets bit dreary. Spooky, if you're not expecting it." He was half teasing, but there was a certain amount of truth to his words. "Just make sure you bring enough food. I'm not sure they've got vending machines or anything down here."

He took a more relaxed posture. "I've been doing this for just shy of two years, now. They treat you pretty well, if you stay out of trouble and meet quotas. A little energy draining is just about all they ask, though. And that you try to stop Senshi and Knights before they do any irreparable harm, but only if you're a fighter. You..." He gave her a quick look over. "I'm not sure you're there yet. You ever been in a fight in your life?"

Bellite blinked. Was she a fighter? No. She was a bookworm who never… “Sadly no, I’ve never really been much of a fighter. It’s easier to just learn all you can…physical violence is a waste of energy I think. At least I like to tell myself that’s what I think.” She gave a small grin. “All right, I’ll call you whenever then. I’m sure you’ll be able to start sleeping more when we’ve saved Evan. That’s what’s worrying you the most isn’t it?”

The lieutenant sighed. “Two years of this…he hasn’t been this way for two years though, right? You haven’t been this worried and wound up for that long have you?” That would have been terrible. All that worry and unhappiness was not good for a person. “You need to take a break from all of this. I can watch Evan for a little while if you wanted some time off to clear your head, if you think that would help. I mean, I’d have to figure out how to take care of…youma? Was that what you called them? But, I can watch him if you want to take a vacation…”

It was the least she could do. After all, he had given her a great opportunity to learn and gain more perspective on the world…and she was very grateful for that.

Sanidine shrugged noncommittally. A part of him desperately yearned for a vacation but he couldn't justify leaving Evan. Maybe after Bellite had some more training and knew more of what she was getting herself into.

"I'll think about it, but I don't even know where I'd go for a vacation. Evan...I don't know. I think about it, all the time. He's only been this way for a few months, but I just...I don't want to lose him, you know? He's not...himself like this. I worry that his brain is just rotting away in there. I'm worried that if we wait too long, even if we get his body back, he'll just be a vegetable. So I just keep pushing myself. If someone could turn him into this, there has to be a way to turn him back. It doesn't have to be perfect, but--damn it--it has to be better than this," he sighed, running his fingers through his hair.

"...A break sounds good. Even if it's just a few extra hours of sleep. But if I'm going to do that, it means we've got a lot of training to put you through. And, I'm sorry to say," he looked her in the eyes, "Some of it's going to be for fighting. And maybe you won't use it, or you'll be able to think your way out of fights? But I'd rather you know how to protect yourself if someone else starts something."

That was an interesting thought…but it made sense…if you were turned into a little creature…wouldn’t you start to lose your human thoughts and emotions…? She would have to do a lot of research on this…and maybe one day she could figure out a way to help…

If Sanidine hadn’t found a way to help Evan in a few months, well…well. He just wasn’t looking hard enough, and he even had said that he hadn’t told anyone before he told her, so…so that was another good reason. “Well, take a break whenever you want. When I’m hanging out here he’s more than welcome to hang out with me…nothing really bad should happen to me here, right? I wouldn’t need to fight? Not that I’m not willing to fight, but I’m willing to learn how to fight so whenever you want to teach me.”

Fighting honestly didn’t sound fun, and honestly she was having doubts of how she would fight in this newly bestowed outfit…but hey. Who was she to argue, really? This was her new job…and she was quite happy to do what was necessary. “Train away.”

Sanidine shook his head. "If you're down here, you're safe. Just...don't leave the city. There's a big great wall," he nodded in the direction, though it wasn't visible from where they stood, "Just don't go through it. Past the doors out there, things can get dangerous. Youma--monsters, like youma, only bad. They can get a little aggressive sometimes."

He avoided telling her about the barrage the Senshi and Knights had laid upon the Dark Kingdom a few months ago, figuring that was more of a fluke than anything.

He reached over to give her a quick pat on the shoulder. "Don't worry about fighting for tonight. We'll deal with that when you're ready. You seem to like the library, so why don't you spend some time down here first, and then just let me know when you're ready to get some practice in?"

Bellite nodded. “That sounds fine to me. Thank you.” She hesitated and gently plopped Evan into Sanidine’s lap before standing. “I suppose…just come and get me tomorrow sometime? Or later tonight. I’ll be in the library getting my bearings and seeing what information I can find on youma, and hopefully a way to help them.”

Her eyes landed on the youma who was now in Sanidine’s lap and she sighed. Yes, she would do as much research as she could. He had to be helped. He deserved it, and she would do her best.

“Thank you again, Sanidine. For all of this. I really do appreciate it.”

The lieutenant stepped out of the office and began walking towards the library. Towards a new wealth of knowledge and adventure that she never thought she would have.

…All in all, tonight had been pretty cool.
