The weather had cleared, somewhat, but it had done its damage to the town. Shun stood by the beach, staring out into the ocean. The colors weren't right. Maybe it was the leaking magic that had caused it to shift hues like that. It was incredibly unnatural. In the very least, there were no immediate shifts since Heliodora's death. At least none that he could perceive. She said that things shouldn't change right off the bat. He wasn't sure if she managed to do what she planned, directing the magic she held off to... wherever, but things seemed to be alright for the time being. The detective took a hold of the pendant that appeared in his room, looking it over. The stars, crown, and sword. 126

Zac was on the beach, skipping small stones out onto the waves, or at least tossing them out into the strange surf. He hadn’t yet gone to search for her. He’d honestly hoped that he could learn something from the odd book, assuming it would be part of the test. Or perhaps that the ‘stone’ would do something that would give him a clue. He’d go in the morning though, he wasn’t giving up. If there was a test he’d try it again. The sand shifted under his feet, a familiar lopsided walk that it created, grit clinging to his feet as he walked, realizing that he was not as alone as he thought he might be. Not Sunny either. Shun, Jerimiah’s new partner. He remembered him from the library, and having interviewed him. “Detective.” He greeted. (137)

Shun saw someone approaching out of the corner of his eyes. Turning, he could see a familiar face making his way closer. He went ahead and tucked the pendant back under his shirt for the time being. "Zac," he greeted with a curt nod. It must have been a day off for him as well, or something like that. "Come to investigate the changes in the ocean as well? Or out here to just take a stroll?"He still was a bit worn down, though it wasn't quite as bad as it had been before. 221

"Just - just a walk." Zac said with a small shrug. "I was, researching something and I wanted to try and make sense of it. What about you sir?" (29)

"Came here to take a look at the changes on the beach. I cannot say I really like what I see here. At least it has stopped raining, but I do not think the changes in our weather pattern are quite done yet," Shun replied. He looked over Zac briefly, "What sort of research, exactly? If you do not mind."281

Zac gazed out over the water, a small nod. The color was beautiful but it probably wasn’t a good portent that was for certain. He did pause before he gave up the answer to what he was researching though. “… I am, trying to see if Heliodora can come home. She… She said she wouldn’t mind.” He rubbed his arm letting his eyes drift down towards the sand at their feet. “Apparently there is a test. I thought if I can find out what it is, even if i can’t pass it, then someone else might. It would be nice to give her that chance." He glanced back up towards the Detective. "... I figure on going back to see her tomorrow." He shrugged. "Share what I found." (12 cool

Shun paused as Zac brought up Heliodora. He had planned on taking her place? That must have been what she was talking about when she had brought him up. Maybe the other person she mentioned, Ming, had tried something like that before? He didn't know. Regardless, that chance was long gone now. Zac would find that grove empty. Well. Unless Pax was lingering around there. He actually wasn't sure if the area would be as it was when the girl was around. It could have changed upon her death. He didn't exactly go in there to look afterwards. "You will not find Heliodora in her demesne," he stated quietly. 390

That got a frown, an inclination of the head. “… What?” he demanded. He had a thought, a terrible thought, but maybe, maybe someone else had had the same thoughts he had, maybe - “Why?” He asked finally. “How do you, how do you know.” He felt tension, a prickle like static over his skin because he needed to know, and didn’t want to. The detective watched Zac very carefully. His own expression didn't chance as he stared at the younger male. "I was in the forest the other day. She is gone," he replied. It wasn't a lie. It just wasn't the whole truth. Shun just felt, given his current reaction and what his plans were, telling everything upfront probably wasn't the best thing to do. 453

“She can’t be! She can’t just … leave! She - “ He started to say more and stopped shaking his head. “She can’t just leave. She told me.” The stars are fixed, she’d said that. “Someone had to have done something.” He shook his head and dragged a hand through his hair. He took a deep breath and let it out. “… She can’t just leave.” He hissed air through his teeth. “She, she might have been able to tell me about another Kid, there was someone else I found while i was researching. She wanted to come home damnit.” He stared down at his hand, flexing it like perhaps it ached. “I should have known.” He murmured. “… thank you, I suppose, for telling me sir.” (127)

She couldn't leave. And yet... somehow he had found her at the gate of the forest, outside of her demesne, with her foot reattached. Shun still wasn't really sure how she managed that. Perhaps things could have been different if Heliodora had waited a few more days, but she insisted on having the deed done right then and there. Zac was clearly upset over this, but there wasn't too much more that he could say that wouldn't give him away. "We can only go forward from here. The cage is broken. It will only be a matter of time before we all have to face the Enemy. Maybe your research can be used for other purposes. There may be more to learn, still."576

“I know” He said a bit too emphatically perhaps. “I may be young but I know” “None of it’s going to matter in the end if we don’t talk to each other. But I figure that’s part of why we keep ******** up. Why we’ve done this lord knows how many times. It’s easier not to share pieces that we know are part of the bigger picture. Maybe tell Jer that you should look into someone named ‘Ming. He was part of whatever went down at the start.” He squeezed his eyes shut and let out a long breath. “Good night, detective.” (102)

"Zac, wait."The detective sighed, watching the kid. "Try not to do anything irrational. I will speak with Jeremiah again before too long. We will figure something out."604

Zac very…calmly. Flipped him the bird. “Irrational this! Take the damned information and do some research I’m sharing but as we can all see, I always get to the table to god damned late. So by all means, figure something out, but do not tell me not to be ‘irrational’. Especially since ‘Rational’ choices seem to end in cut throats rather than cut palms. If it’s ok with you… I’m going to continue my walk. “ He hesitated a moment and then added “Irrationally.” (84) (671 total)

A heavy sigh escaped Shun as Zac flipped him off with a rant before practically storming off. Yes, it was best that he didn't state everything. It would only cause more distress and he probably wouldn't understand. This whole situation sucked enough as is. Slowly, he shook his head before turning about to head the other way. 661
