Daniel tromped along the grassy meadow looking around at his surroundings, when was the last time he went for a leisure walk anywhere. If his memory serves him right, it had been a really, really long time. He glanced upwards at the clouds as they slowly drifted by. He was starting to feel that the life of a bachelor was boring and lonely and he felt in order to avoid those feelings he needed to get out and get some fresh air, he looked at it as a lifestyle changed and he hoped it would help.
Gael had been wandering for some time now, following rumors about a stallion similar to her own appearance, her brother. She liked the adventure of it, but at times harrowing, frustrating, and lonely. She wondered how much he had changed, how he had grown and developed with time and experience. Did he remember her? Did he miss her? Why was it she could never quite find him, as if he was two steps and more ahead of her? Was he avoiding her? Surely at least the last question could not be true. Surely he would like to see his sister again! But it had become easy enough to worry and doubt herself with time. Nevertheless, she traveled with this goal in mind and allowed herself to rest once in a while, meeting new people and other soquili from time to time. As she reached a particular meadow, she found a stallion taking in his surroundings. As she approached him, she smiled.
Daniel shifted his gaze to what was in front of him, he didn't want to seem like he was going into run into anything, that would be a horrible first impression should he ecounter someone new and intriguing. He swished his tail to and fro idly. He had a really bad track record of socializing and to be fair he hadn't really met or run into anyone new in so long. He was silently hoping in his mind that his bacheor lifestyle would change and thus far it hadn't but he had faith that it would when he met the right one. He flicked his ears as he heard a faint rustling closeby. Now who would be out and about at this time.
Taking the cue that he had noticed her, Gael smiled again. "Hello." The small but sturdy mare was not necessarily expecting a conversation, so she did not demand one of the dark-blue stallion by introducing herself. They were merely sharing the same meadow. Her feathered tail fanned out gently as it slid over the grass, like a child dragging fingers over it. Oh it was beautiful here. Perhaps if he allowed it, she could enjoy it for the afternoon. She would like that very much.
Daniel turned to face the mare, taking a moment to look her over. She looked so down to earth, and she seemed like she was that type. He lightly bowed towards her "Hello, My name is Daniel. You are?" he asked politely. He was glad he could encounter a mare, but he tried not to look too enthusiatic, it was a nice change from what he was use to. "What brings you to this lovely meadow?" he asked her.
The stallion's quick assessment was actually quite accurate. Despite her very impractical quest to find a brother she had not seen since foalhood, she was normally as down-to-earth as her appearance suggested. Her vinelike markings rooted her metaphorically as much as her honest facial expression. She was curious but unassuming. Wasn't it natural to be? Probably about as unnatural as the stallion's bow. She was surprised; she almost took a step back, but forced her hooves to stay put. "Daniel, I," she hesitated, "don't think anyone has ever bowed to me before," she chuckled a little. She was not displeased. It was... nice. "I am Gael Róisín," she began, carefully enunciating her name, as gah-ell roh-sheen, a name she was proud of, "pleased to meet you. I found this place today while wandering. It's nice here, isn't it?"
Daniel returned to being upright," well for me, bowing is a sigh of respect to anyone new that I meet" he told her, of course a stallion bowing to her would be as awkard as someone assuming she was the opposite of being down to earth. He found those who were down to earth kept their cool and very level headed. It wasn't the first time he was told that bowing was weird and impraticalm but for him it was respect. "Pleasure to meet you Gael." he told her and looked around the meadow. "It is one of nature's natural wonders, this meadow anyway" he told her.
"I think it's nice," Gael replied, referring to his bowing. "I may not have seen many others bow, but I appreciate the sign of respect. Thank you." She looked around at the meadow. The trees, the grass, the earth and sky. She took a slow, deep breath and found the air sweet and clear. "I agree. I was hoping to spend the afternoon here before I head off again." She looked at Daniel again. "How about yourself? Have you been here before?"
"Your welcome, its one way to make a good impression anyway" he told her politely. He tilted his head to the side "What sort of quest are you on?" he asked her swishing his tail to and fro idly. "I bet it would look more beautiful in the spring and summer time" he told her, he could see a lot of colorful wild flowers growing int he meadow. "Well, I wouldn't say I have been here before I just only started doing outings to get away from my current lifestyle, that of which is a bachelor" he told her.
"Yes, it is," she agreed. "At least it does not leave a bad impression." Gael gave Daniel a tight little smile. It was not for him more than herself. She was unhappy despite her surroundings and the company. "I am looking for my brother. It is the most impractical thing I have ever done, for we have not seen one another since we were both foals. Yet... I miss him, and I feel that part of me is missing while he is gone from my life." She sighed, letting out the negative thoughts. "While I travel, though, I do like to enjoy the new faces and their customs, the changing scenery, the company." For the last bit, she grinned at Daniel. He was pleasant to speak with, and he was not hard on the eyes, either. Nor was the meadow. She imagined how it might be in the spring, with fruit trees in bloom and new bright-green leaves, and nodded. But his last comment was perplexing to her. "Is bachelorhood a difficult life where you are from?"
Daniel nodded his head in acknowledgement as she spoke, it was rude to act like you weren't listening "Well, I'm sure you both will cross paths soon, just have faith" he told her nodding his head, he couldn't relate he had no siblings whatsoever so it was hard. "It tends to be, because you are lonely and you tend to get bored as well" he answered "I apologize that I can't relate to not seeing a sibling in a long time, I don't actually have any or at least none I'am aware of" he answered.
Gael considered. "Well, I would think it's a bit like missing a good friend, or any of your close relatives. My brother and I were very close until we were split up. It was beyond our control, but from what I have seen in my travels, it is not uncommon for families to break up, or for soquili to travel for that matter." Perhaps some of that he could relate to, or perhaps he had seen it too. "It is helpful to be able to express it, even though I don't expect anyone to understand. Although perhaps you can understand somewhat, with your own loneliness." She studied him for a moment, pensively. "So you are traveling around to see if you can find a mate? Or at least for some fun," she chuckled. "I do not mean to pry, I apologize if it seems that way. But there are many wonders in this land, I think you will find what and who you are looking for. If we are headed in the same direction, would you like to travel with me for a while? Perhaps you will find someone, or a herd perhaps, that you are looking for."
Daniel nodded his head agreeing with her "you make vlaid points, Lady Gael" he told her thinking about what she said, he hadn't though about it that way. He considered it for a mintue "perhaps, but i'm not entirely sure to be honest" he explained. "I guess you could say sort of its a long term goal anyway, I know good things take time to happen" he told her. "That would be nice" he told her.
"Yes," she agreed, "the best things take much preparation, and sometimes they come in their own time so patience has its place too." Gael looked around trying to determine from which direction he had come. Perhaps then she could tell which way he was going. But it was no use, he had been here already when she arrived. "Which direction are you going?"
Daniel paused to think about it for a second "I'm going that way" he said gesturing straight forward. "This is true" he answered politely. He tilted his head to the side a bit and looked at her "which way are you going?" he asked.
For a moment Gael wondered if he was serious. Straight ahead? "Well... I'm headed north, more or less."
Daniel blinked a bit, it probably was more appropriate to say north, south, west or east. But he self-informed himself that he didn't get out much to begin with "um..well, okay" he said. He shook his head at himself and continued on his stroll.
Gael watched Daniel curiously. He did not seem to be the most socialized stallion, that to call himself a bachelor brought the wrong images to mind. Instead he was this polite and mild-mannered, yet endearingly awkward soul. Taking his wandering to be the end of their conversation, she smiled and shook her head before turning away to gaze upon the meadow again. Well, if he decided to join her, he would, and she would welcome the company. He was, indeed, charming.
Daniel sighed softly to himself, well that went horribly wrong in the end. He really should have started the getting out more lifestyle from the get go. It was going to be a long, long day. He would have to come back to meadow in the fall and winter, he personally liked it better when there was fros settling on the grass.
