Richard had certainly not expected getting a call out of the blue one day while he was taking care of Lexus. At first he had thought it might have been Kit or work but the voice that answered had not been one he had recognized at all. Instead he learned that he had family in the area and the young woman had wanted to meet up.
While he was conflicted whether he truly wanted to meet up or not, he still agreed to meet up at a time that wouldn't interfere with his work, either one of them. The place he picked was a cafe that served great coffee from what he had heard and had figured that he might as well try the place and if it was as good as was said then maybe he would bring Kitkat sometime.
So about ten minutes before he was meant to be meeting his cousin he was sitting in the cafe at a table in the back with a cup of coffee and a report he was skimming over.

Her mother had stupid timing when it came to her extended family. When she had received a call from her mother, Mercy instantly thought that the wicked woman wanted to have another "outing" at the gym, to which she would've declined in a heart beat. There was no way she was going anywhere with that woman ever again. The whole fiasco at the gym was downright embarrassing, and she was still mad at her mother for body shaming her when she KNEW she didn't have the thin figure her mother had because she was one-half of her father and took after her grandmother on his side in terms of body. So when she told her that one of her wayward cousins that she's never met was roaming in town, she didn't believe her of course. However, the facts were thrown in her face and she couldn't deny them what so ever. So now she found herself driving to this coffee shop to meet a cousin named Richard. She snorted and double checked that her outfit was appropriate for the occasion, nodding at the long summer dress she had on while she stepped out of her poor beat up beemer. One day she would get a new car, today was not one of those days nor anytime soon. She stepped inside of the coffee shop, looking around for the guy that matched the photo her mom sent via text, spotting someone similar just sitting by themselves. She made her way over to the table,sitting down politely. "Richard? Or do I have the wrong person?"

Richard was about half way through his report and a third of the way through his coffee when someone came up and addressed him.He placed the report down and looked up at the young woman, giving her a quick glance over then gave a nod. "Yes I'm Richard, and you are Mercy I presume?" He asked, raising an eyebrow a bit in question. He hadn't gotten a picture of her, just her name, but he thought it was safe to assume that anyone looking for him would be the cousin he was meant to meet up with. Unless they were looking for a different Richard anyway.

Ah! So she was correct! Good. Mercy gave Richard a smile and a quick nod of her head, looking at the menu for the cafe to see what she could afford. "My mom told me that we're related through her side of the family and I'm sorry to hear that. My mom's side isn't exactly the most favored side, so I don't keep up with them and I usually just ignore mom when family reunions come up." She set down her menu, looking at him with curiosity. "You don't seem evil and conniving, though. Where are you from?" He seemed a bit fair skinned to be immediately related to her mother, so that was a clue towards the fact that they might be distantly related cousins instead of closely related. He also looked older than her, which wasn't surprising. She was the youngest out of her cousins [sans Liam on her father's side], and while she wasn't particularly fond of that, she worked with it.

The side of Richard's lips twitched, either in the beginning of a smile or a frown it was hard to tell and he nodded. "I don't blame you for that, I tend to ignore any family reunion invitations as well." He hadn't had contact with family beyond the odd postcard here and there with said invitations since he was eighteen and was able to live on his own. "I was born and raised in Colorado, my Father was a firefighter there. We didn't have much contact with the rest of the family since everyone else was out of state." He said then took a sip of his coffee. "How about you? How did you end up decent?"
He could see a few family resemblances in her but it was mostly with his remembrance of his Mother then in himself since he had taken after is Father in looks, including the much paler skin tone. It wasn't surprising though depending on just far removed they were on the family tree.Viva Viola But one question, WHAT ARE THOSE!? (I mean tag gaia_angelleft gaia_kittenstar gaia_angelright )

Mercy snorted at the last bit, shaking her head. "I wouldn't say I'm all that decent. I was mostly raised by my father, with my mother literally wanting nothing to do with me from the moment I was born." She could go on about her mother, but she really didn't want to scare away her newfound cousin nor did she want to have him assume that she was crazy because of her mother. "My dad is a pretty good guy, he owns a diner that serves some pretty good burgers." Mercy took the time to study Richard, tilting her head. She could see some resemblance, but he was indeed much paler than her. There are some people on her mother's side that are kind of along the lines of pale and pasty.

Richard took a sip of his coffee as he listened to her then gave a nod when she was done. "Sorry about your Mother." He offered then, figuring she didn't want to focus on that particular family member, instead asked about her father. "Which diner is it that he owns?"
It was highly likely that he had never been to the diner seeing how he didn't go out to eat much at all, practically never when he was by himself. He just hated having to spend the money to pay for food he could make at home that was just as good if not better. Also over all healthier then food from certain places but that was just a perk to not spending.

"Eh, no need. I sure as hell ain't sorry." she practically beamed when he asked about her father, "Dad owns The Shack. I could take you there sometime so you can meet him in person~" Her dad could be a bit intimidating sometimes, but one look at how he interacts around Leiah and her baby brother would change many opinions. "What brought you to Destiny city?" She didn't have too much time since she would have to get to school in a bit, but she would love to exchange numbers at least so she could call him to hang out later. Natsuko-neko VIVA USED TAG! IT WAS SUPER EFFECTIVE!

His lips twitched again but this time it was much more obvious that it was a smile that he was holding back. Between how dismissive she had been plus her enthusiasm for talking about her Father was not what he had been expecting. "Sure, it would be nice to meet other decent family members." He said with a nod. If nothing else it might be worth spending something to get more ties tot he city.
"I moved here a few years ago for work. I'm a park ranger at the forest." After he said that his eyes darted down briefly to the report on the table in front of him, the logo for the forest on the corner but when he had put his coffee down earlier the logo had been blocked from his cousin's view if she had bothered to look. "What about you? Do you work, go to school, both?"Viva Viola NATSU USED COUNTER TAG! IT WAS SUPER EFFECTIVE!

"Okay, I can let him know. The family usually gets to eat for free at the Diner." A park ranger? must be nice to be so close to nature! Her eyes followed his and she finally saw the logo, feeling a bit embarrassed that she failed to see it. "I'm a CNA, working on becoming an LPN, then finally an RN." She had a long bit of school ahead of her, but it would be well worth it. She frowned when her phone started vibrating in her purse, pulling it out. "s**t!" She gave Richard a sad smile. "I have to go but...Do you have a cell phone? We could exchange numbers and I can call you when I'm not late for class?"

Richard raised an eyebrow and tucked that information away. Not that he would end up taking advantage if he did end up getting to eat free, probably, but it was definitely something that would be kept in mind if he ever had the urge to go out to eat on his own. "Sounds like you have your work cut out for you, I'm sure you do a good job." He nodded, giving an actual small smile this time around.
When her phone went off and she said she had to rush off to class he just nodded and took out his phone. He could completely understand how short time can be when it came to school or work. "Yes I do and that is fine." He said as he brought up his contacts and they number swapped. It didn't take long so only a few minutes later after saying goodbyes, he was back to being on his own and set back to work completing the report.
