Another tremor had just struck Ashdown as Shun trudged through the rainy landscape. It wasn't enough to throw him off balance, but he certainly felt the earth move under his feet. At least the sky wasn't crumbling down or anything like that too. Not yet, anyway. If this kept up though... He really hoped it would stop sooner or later. He was just glad that he had a place to park his bike where it was dry. The constant rain wouldn't be good for it.

"World may as well be falling apart now," he muttered under his breath.

He walked pass a certain trashcan that had several notable cuts in its side. It hadn't been replaced or anything like that, though it did make a few people wonder what could have cause it. He heard some people say a ghost had done it. In hindsight, Shun wondered if anyone had actually been nearby when he had originally damaged the bin. That probably would have freaked someone out. Though to be fair, he hadn't been aware that such actions would transfer over to the real deal. Now he knew.

The rain he could deal with, the earthquakes not so much. Algernon leaned on a doorway to a local cafe, safe and dry under the awning until the tremors let up and he could fish out his umbrella. His wardrobe had gotten a bit more adventurous, under his dark tweed sport coat was a slick complimenting vest that seemed to cut his paunchy appearance a bit and make him look a tad thinner.

The older man was jostling his leather satchel laden with schoolwork and holding a paper cup of tea as he flicked open the pocket umbrella he always carried. It was then he noticed Shun passing.

"Office Kuroda-" There was a smile and a flick of a hand. He was never sure if he and Shun were on friendly terms or not so he defaulted to a generic, polite greeting.

Turning about, Shun looked to see that he had just walked passed Algernon. A quick glance around told him that Jeremiah wasn't with him, thankfully. Or maybe he was still in the cafe he seemed to be exiting.

"Professor," he greeted in turn, giving a curt nod of his head. He wasn't quite familiar enough with this Mercer to notice the difference in attire, though it did look like he might have lost some weight.

"Just finished your lunch?"

"Just a bite after class," He held his cup up a bit, "And some tea."

There was a momentary gap of him stepping out from the awning and getting the umbrella over his head. Several heavy drops dripped from the awning into his hair and the older man shuffled things to awkwardly pat his hair.

"Any progress on trashcan destruction or bonfires?" He seemed to recognize the damaged can with a small smile and joined Shun on the street.

Shun glanced back at the can in question, shaking his head, "I have since moved past using trashcans as practice dummies. I have been practicing in general, though. Finally met with Heliodora and she was able to give some advice on the matter as well."

Progress was still slow, or at least it seemed slow to him. Some things, he was getting better with, but if he got into a magic fight in Other Ashdown, he was fairly certain he would lose. He was not ready, in that regard. And that thought bothered him, possibly more than it should. But then again, these things in general bothered him a lot as of late. Nothing he did felt like it was really enough.

"I do not suppose you have worked up any new spells, yourself?"

"How is Heliodora?" Alg was truly curious, especially after the ball. She'd been upset about MIchael and she and Adoelle were even closer..

"Spells?" The professor smiled sheepishly and straightened his hair again, "I'm afraid I haven't been back over there since I saw you last."

"She was... rather upset over the loss of Adoelle. She insisted on seeing to my questions, however. Possibly to help keep her mind off of other things," he stated. It was a guess, in the least. He had offered to let her vent out, but the girl declined.

Shun then tilted his head, "Really? I have been finding myself crossing over more than before ever since the ball had ocurred. I am not certain if I am just unlucky in that regard or what."

But if Algernon hadn't been popping over as much, then maybe his frequent crossings weren't another sign of worlds blurring together.

"But I suppose my visits have had some merit to them..."

"Oh?" He imagined Heliodora would be upset, not only for the loss of Adoelle but what it also meant for her own future.

Alg glanced around, realized with the rain that there weren't many people out and about to overhear them, and took a few steps further to simply be away from the cafe door. He sipped his tea.

"Anything interesting happen? Jeremiah told me you had an incident with an ah-" he chuckled, "Evil chipmunk?"

A sigh escaped him. Ah yes, the Destroyer. Evil chipmunk was one way of describing that thing.

"Yes... I encountered an evil chipmunk that people wanted to release from its prison because it was cute. This was before the ball," he grumbled under his breath. People had a tendency to do stupid things. With or without magic being involved. Having magic only seemed to make it easier to be an idiot, however.

"I did return to the theater more recently... and I have learned a couple of things. Namely, I have a small idea of something that may yet come."

Among other things, but the poster's contents was more relevant to Algernon. He had doubts the older man ran any risk of becoming a Faceless. Unlike him.

Alg's lips twitched. It was probably rude to find the chipmunk incident funny but since he hadn't partaken of it, it was certainly entertaining after the fact.

Mention of going to the theater again peaked his interest and the professor sipped his tea before jostling the things he was carrying, "You've got me rapt with attention."

Shun caught that slight twitch of the lips, but he didn't comment anything about it. Sure, the idea of a killer chipmunk was 'funny' to some. They had not been there, dealing with the idiocy, though. Instead, he just went on to explain what it was he saw.

"The time prior, there had been movie posters for certain major events. Finding Heliodora, Blackfriars, and then a third poster with glittering masks; something that hinted at the ball. A new poster has since gone up. This one depicts a rainy town with a burning stake before a forest."

He tilted his head, "You would not happen to know if this town has a history of witch trials, do you?"

It was something he was planning on asking one of the oldest residents of Ashdown later on. Perhaps she had stories or rumors on that matter.

"Interesting.." The posters seemed to foreshadow. He wondered if this theater was accessible all the time, or only when it welcomed you like the library.

"Well I've done some small amount of looking into the history-" Alg juggled his umbrella to push up his glasses, "-but initially was looking into the native american tribes. I'm sure if we were at the store I could find some books on the subject. But this is New England. Salem is only fifteen minutes away.."

Shun nodded slowly.

"My thoughts exactly. But... even if this sort of thing had not happened in past cycles, the idea that it might come around is... a bit foreboding. We may need to be extra careful around here..." he started, pausing as he looked Alg over, "Unless it is Sunny who is at threat of being burned."

Of course, it could be something else entirely. The imagery of a burning stake had some strong implications, especially in this general area. The really wasn't all that likely to be a coincidence. Things dealing with magic were rarely coincidental anyway, he found.

"Unfortunately, unlike the ball, we do not have much of a timeframe for when things may happen. I am going to guess it may be sometime soon, though."

Shun's idle glance over him made the professor smooth his trim suit a bit, then smooth his hair. It was a subconscious movement to be sure.

"Well we spoke about Sunny at the ball," Alg glanced around again as the rain drummed off of his umbrella, no one he recognized and very few pedestrians with the rain, "And her nature. I can't say I'd be upset."

His fingers seemed to adjust and shift on his umbrella handle, "This place doesn't like to give us time frames. I doubt we'll get certified sealed invitations for a witch burning if that's what we're looking at..."

"Yes," he started, taking a glance around. The street was pretty desolate, but he dropped his voice a bit lower anyway, "And I still agree that something needs to be done about her. But to be burned at the stake is a brutal and unnecessary way to go about an execution. There has to be a cleaner way of going about that."

And if not, he'd put up with it. But it didn't please him to think about it. It was one thing to have to murder or whatever, so be it. But if they were going to do it, he would rather it be done in a quick manner. And burning someone to death was not a quick and painless way of going about it.
