It was a comfortable bustle at Darlene's. There were new microbrews to be tried, pumpkin spice and apple cider concoctions to get cozy over, and flannel. Flannel everywhere. America Jones was one such figure, hustling orders to tables and keeping drinks topped with a bright smile and a good dose of sass. While she has her moments, the girl was a pretty decent waitress. Tonight, though, may in fact be one of Those moments, because in hurry to get her shift started, the girl had left her bag on one of the bar stools.

A bag containing some make up, hair ties, handmade ink and brushes, a little bottle of mouthwash, magic dust from the otherworld, a small first aid kit, a rain poncho, dog snacks, lip gloss....

You know, the usual stuff a nineteen year old girl carries with her.

Prompt: Everything was going fine until (your partner's character, aka: whichever of you wants to do it!) went and used your collection of cool items to summon a strange pink othercreature.

This rp is at Darlene's and is open to anyone who'd like to help complete the prompt! Remember that an RP must be completed to count toward the Strange Things challenge, so this orp will be wrapped up before the end of October!

With his parents so often out of town on business, Jamie learned at a relatively young age to cook for himself. He was no master chef, but he was decent enough and found some satisfaction in a successful new recipe. By far, though, what Jamie enjoyed most about waiting for his parents' return—only on the food end of the spectrum, of course—was deciding where to go out to dinner when they inevitably got back.

It was a tradition by now, a family night out to celebrate a reunion, even if their time apart hadn't been all that drastic. This time, the family had grown by one.

"Do you know what you want to drink, Shiloh?" Jamie crossed his feet under his chair as his parents quietly commented on the fact that Darlene's had done great things recently. "I'm thinking root beer..." Glancing up from the menu, he spotted America as she moved around the tables with what looked like practiced ease. He wondered if she'd be the one to help them.

Shiloh hadn't been too keen on the idea of eating out, but the way Jamie's eyes sparkled at the idea and the way his parents had so eagerly insisted had led him to the backseat of their car, on the way to some nondescript restaurant. Turns out the restaurant wasn't so nondescript, but Shiloh still... couldn't really place the familiarity of the place. Everything down to the name Darlene's...

"Who did I come here before with..." he was mumbling to himself as he scrutinized the menu, trying desperately to ignore all of the other tables and any other food patrons. Hell, even being around Jamie's parents was mildly uncomfortable, but he didn't dislike them at least. They meant well, and he knew it, and that was all that really mattered in the end.

Jamie's words shook him out of his thoughts, but he had been too engrossed to consider a beverage. "Uh... I dunno? Water?" he looked around, eyeing his parents, sneaking in a question when he was sure they were busy, "What kind of stuff do I like?"

Something sweet sounded nice, but this was dinner. Honestly, after all his meals spent in silence with Melany, it was hard to work up the morale to speak in the first place. He was accustomed to the bland, the basics, the whatever was necessary and no more. Still, he licked his lips. Did he like burgers? Darlene's seemed to be sporting a lot of them...

Juniper didn't always have money to spend. In fact, it was a rare treat for her to even step foot in a bar, but that was exactly what this night was about, treating herself. She'd been penny pinching so much that it was starting to effect her mood and with s**t happening at work...well... she deserved some pampering. So, with a few bucks in her back pocket she entered Darlene's. The warm, inviting atmosphere of the place was lovely, not to mention it helped fend off the chill of yet another rainy autumn day. This crazy weather, though initially loved, was getting old now for the young blonde. Still, she tried to make the best of it.

Walking up to the bar she found herself a vacant seat amongst the bustle. She pulled off her damp coat, revealing a black, deep cut V neck shirt. She had dressed it down with her blue jeans but had paired it with a pair of black heeled ankle boots. Though her clothes looked in good condition it was obvious the boots had seen many winters and were well loved what with the amount of scuff marks and lack of polish. Still, she looked put together and Juniper was enjoying the attire.

The bartender walked up to her after she had made herself comfortable with her jack draped over the back of her chair. "I'll have one of the apple cider drink you've got on special." It seemed like a lovely way to start the night off and to warm herself up.

In contrast, Theo had more money than he knew what to do with, his boots were preternaturally immaculate, and the rest of him looked like he had just been dragged down the length of a slightly muddy slip n' slide. He sat a handful of seats away from Juniper, halfway through something pumpkiny and spicy that, surprisingly, wasn't half bad. He was still frowning over it, but it seemed like more of a default expression than a reaction to anything in particular.

When his voice went quieter, Jamie had leaned in to hear, realizing as soon as he'd asked why Shiloh would want to keep this between them. To his parents, it would've made no sense. How could Shiloh have possibly forgotten his own preferences?

The answer to the question was a sad one, a horrific one, one he could never share with his parents. They weren't completely ignorant of the situation, but to tell them his best friend had been kidnapped and tortured so badly he forgot to save himself would be impossible. If nothing else, it definitely wasn't casual dinnertime fare. Especially not when, Jamie glanced around for a short moment as people continued to filter in, there were so many customers who might catch wind of their personal conversation.

"Definitely not the water," he whispered back, trying to keep things lighthearted, making no mention of his inability to remember. Instead, it sounded more like he was trying to convince his friend to live a little and go for the one thing everyone knew he wanted when he was just trying to be polite. "I think you should go for the chocolate milkshake."

Nathaniel's budget was extremely limited; but he'd gotten a relatively nice bonus from his latest gardening job, and therefore thought it was a good opportunity to maybe splurge a little.

Maybe.

Either way, he sat at Darlene's a few tables away from everyone else, absentmindedly scribbling in a notebook, something smelling like pumpkin rising from the mug in his other hand. Several books were stacked beside him, mostly textbooks, and one was open and propped up against the stack, showing a page of complicated diagrams and numbers.

Nathaniel made a small note on his paper, then took a sip of his drink, letting the warm heat of it sooth through him.

As it turned out, there was an additional visitor to Darlene's this day.

Mostly because he had heard about good eats and because America worked there and she was the best.

Obviously.

So perhaps it was not really a surprise when a smaller than usual shadow marten slinked out of her bag.

Except that he was shifting his size, getting a little bigger in the process, and caused the bag to go scattering to the ground.

Gloom froze for all of a moment before he darted off.

No one saw him spill anything.

(He was going to go hide around America's legs. Mostly because he had snuck into her stuff without her noticing and, and- He was so sorry he spilled your stuff, Americafriend.)

With her apple cider in hand, Juniper happily nursed the drink. The warm liquid was exactly what she needed on a cool autumn night. A chill ran down her spine at the first sip of the drink. Nothing better than that cold feeling being washed away as a hot drink hits your stomach.

She hadn't been paying much attention to the stuff around her, but she did catch the sound of something or somethings falling onto the ground. Normally she wouldn't have bothered to turn and look but one of those somethings sounded like it had broke. And, upon inspection, she found a bottle that had been holding some sort of dark substance on the floor it's contents spilled and splattered everywhere. The bag it had come from lay open and toppled.

"Oh s**t. That sucks." Juniper hopped from her chair and grabbed a few napkins from one of the nearby tables.

She promptly started to clean the stuff up and realized there was more glass on the ground than she had thought. Plus it looked like a lip gloss also suffered a horrible fate with the ink all over it, and the top having popped off. It was then she noted that there was a strange dust on the ground too. Probably some left over dirt or whatever from someone who sat here earlier. She mused as she swirled the dust and ink together. Her efforts weren't doing much besides make a horrible print on the floor. "********. This is so bad." She glanced around in hopes that maybe someone else had seen the mess happen and was getting legit stuff to clean it up before it dried.

Noticing the boys at what looked like a family sorta dinner, America caught Jamie and Shiloh's attention with a cheerful wave before mouthing something that maybe was an encouraging, You two are cute as ******** right now, or maybe a, Try the new wings, they're great! Either was likely, but she didn't appear to be warning them of any eldritch horrors lurking around, so that was a plus.

Leaning close to Theo, the waitress beamed at him, "You doin' alright, hun?" And then suddenly America startled, glanced down to find a familiar figure at her ankles, and couldn't help a little giggle.

Juniper's efforts were soon rewarded, within moments the swirl of ink and dust began to shift under her gaze and then, even worse, it started to smoke. The little plum grew and grew until it formed a smokey bubble on the floor and then...

pop!

The bubble popped, revealing a small, round...furry....thing. It was very....pink. And if she touched it, it'd start to purr, very cutely.

He had just taken the last sip of his latte when he heard the crash, most of it muffled slightly in the way that bags hitting floors tended to be. There was a distinct crack, however, and as he turned to see what the damages were, there was the waitress, asking him if he was okay.

"Yeah, I'm... yeah," he replied eloquently. "Just thinking, as always." He managed a bit of a smile for her benefit, but it fled again as he noticed Gloom. He didn't want to say anything negative since the girl seemed so taken with him, but Theo still didn't trust the creature, no matter how cute he was.

Sure enough, the floor began to smoke over by that blond he kind of recognized, and then pop! A bubblegum abomination.

Theo pointed at the marten and muttered, "I bet he had something to do with it," just loud enough for America to hear.

"Gloom didn't do anything," he huffed, ears flat to the back of his head. Of course he recognized Theo.

"Y'just a grump. Gloom just wanted to see where Americafriend works." Gloom sniffed towards the pink thing.

"That's just- Gloom doesn't know."

Noticing the smoke, America's hand flew up to her mouth, "Oh...I should-" And then suddenly there was a pink thing, and she relaxed a bit, offering the fellow a grin.

The girl briefly crouched down to offer the shadowy marten a friendly pet. "He usually doesn't come around with so much...pink, gotta say."

Where there was once a single round fuzzy thing in front of Juniper, there were now four.

Juniper looked up at the pink creature that literally popped out of abubble in front of her. She blinked. It's cute, fluffy, adorableness was more than enough incentive for her to reach out and touch the little thing, resulting in a very lovely purr. "Oh my! You're the cutest thing." She gushed and reached forward with both hands to scoop the little creature towards her chest and cradle as if she were holding her cat, Star.

Standing up from the mess on the floor, she glanced around and noted that there were quite a few people looking at her. It didn't phase her one bit though. "Seems like we have a little visitor." She said.

Eyes flickered to gloom. She recognized the little guy from the ball but hadn't gotten to know him. "Well, hello there." She smiled.

Then she heard another pop, or was it 3, and 3 more of the creatures were around her. "Whoa. Ok, are these your brothers and sisters?" She questioned of the one in her arm.

"Um, anyone wanna help here?" One had been cute, but 4 was a bit too many. Especially since these things had to be attributed to Other Ashdown.

"Chocolate.... milkshake?" he squinted, furrowing his brow at the menu in front of him. "Actually, that does sound pretty good..." chocolate anything in general sounded really good. "I uh—" he glanced over at Jamie's parents, and then back to Jamie himself, "—go with that actually, thanks."

    He smiled.

And then proceeded to nudge his friend under the table with his foot in some sort of silent thank you, or maybe Shiloh was just trying to be silly and play footsie but that was besides the point. Jamie would understand. Jamie always understood. It was then that he caught America's gaze, but he was unable to read her soundless message. Cute as ********? Wings? What?

And then to boot he heard Juniper over his shoulder, and looking down he caught wind of the fluffy pink creatures. "U-Uh..." he was rapidly tapping Jamie under the table with his shoe now, attention still directed at the weird s**t going on behind them.
