Chel had come out to the cave instead of him. Talking about it had reminded her she hadn't been out here for a while and she wanted to revisit it now that she had some things to think about. The cave was nice like that; a quiet little dug out hollow with no fear of collapsing. Through the center ran a small trickle of water that went out to the ocean; not even ankle deep in height, but enough to make a nice burbling sound.
The waves lapped the shore aimlessly about one hundred feet from where she was sitting. A perfectly safe spot; no threat of getting washed out at this time in the evening. It was sunset, it was beautiful and for the first time in a long time, Chel was at peace.
But the silence eventually gnawed at her, filling her head with thoughts of the night prior, her conversation with Thorne, her job, the enormous ticking time bomb that was Jack.
She picked up a few stones and began "skipping" them off the sorry excuse for a stream. They mostly bounced and landed in the mushy sand below, but it was something to do for the time being.

Shun hadn't really planned on checking out the cave that Chel mentioned, but he had to admit that he was a little curious as to what the big deal about it was. It was just a cave by the beach. That wasn't really something that would help him defeat his inner demons. A great deal more was going to be needed to handle that. But for now, he had a little extra time on his hands. It would not hurt to take a little bit of time to just check it out, then be on his way. As he drew close to the spot the cave was supposed to be, he could hear a light tapping of sorts. He furrowed his brow, not entirely certain what the sound was exactly. Something hitting a rock, perhaps? Warily, he poked his head in, just to sort of scout it out. To his surprise (though he probably shouldn't have been considering who it was who told him about this place), he just saw Chel there. The cave itself seemed like a nice little spot, he guessed. But it wasn't anything special from what he could tell. Well. He had seen enough. The detective straightened up and started to walk off.

"You know yer not invisible yeah?"
She stood up and gestured back. "I'll leave. You can take it."

Shun grunted in response to Chel, already walking away, "No. I am on my way. I came merely on a curiosity is all."

"You wanna sit with me?" she asked, awkwardly caught between walking away and sitting back down which resulted in her just standing there. "I could use the company."

The detective lingered just outside of the cave mouth. He closed his eyes and rubbed his forehead.
"You do not really want my company. There are better options."
Maybe not here, but in general? Yes. There were far better options than a brooding incompetent detective. Shun had completed his original intention of just checking out the area, so he didn't really feel any need to stick around. In most cases, he was better off alone, especially when he was feeling the way he was right now.

"Maybe there's better but I still want yers." She looked at him awkwardly, then sat herself back down slowly. She could tell he was antsy and that she wasn't helping, but she really did like Shun's company sometimes. There was an oddly raw feeling to it; he hated all things that she put on (noisy, life of the party, sarcastic, Chel) so when she was around him she didn't have to be that.
But what the hell did that make her then?
"I was enjoyin' the quiet actually." Quiet being skipping stones and still making noise, but far quieter than her usual boisterous rabble. "You wanna skip rocks with me?"

"Why? It is not as though I have ever been all that nice to you. More of the opposite, really," he commented. Shun folded his arms over his chest, furrowing his brow. He really didn't understand Chel.
"You and quiet do not seem to mix all that well," he stated, staring at her.

"Even I got a right to be all mysterious and soulful and s**t sometimes!" she said, picking up a rock and rolling it in her hands. Even Chel had her secrets. Maybe not as many as Shun, but everyone had a secret or two.
She looked back up at him. "Promise I don't bite. Unless yer into that." An awkward pause. "Which yer not. I don't think?"

"Depends on where you bite."
With a sigh, Shun went on to actually step foot into the cave. He was too tired to really argue right now. He made his way over to what appeared to be a dry patch, then slumped down against the earthen wall. Once he was there, he just closed his eyes, running his hand through his hair.

Chel watched him for a moment, admittedly on edge with his presence now that she had ... things to consider. She let out a long breath and shook out her body; relax, relax.
Once she was sure he was settled and not about to stab her in the back literally or metaphorically, she went back to quietly skipping rocks.

Shun was, for the most part, ignoring Chel while she did her own thing. He remained silent, as he started to become lost in his thoughts. Shaking his head, he tried to stop thinking about some of the things, but it was always much easier to say it than to actually do it. His mind kept looping in on itself.
He was weak without purpose, and without purpose he was weak. A vicious cycle, this made.
The detective's eyes grew distant before too long. Somehow, he needed to improve himself.

Chel was becoming more and more aware of the distance between them, both metaphorically and literally. She had a vicious cycle of her own.
She just wished she could be useful to him. The more she talked with him the more she realized that Shun was the kind of person that operated on worth and at the moment ... She was worthless. The strange dream didn't help her sort out what she was feeling either. But ... looking at Shun, she needed to figure it out soon.
For once Chel didn't provoke him or even do so much as acknowledge him. The cave had special rules and she wasn't going to break them, even with Shun here.
Instead she began occupying herself by making a small sandcastle using the trickle as a moat.

Shun saw what Chel was doing, but he still didn't pay her much mind. She wasn't disturbing him, so she could do whatever the hell she wanted for all he cared. While she occupied herself by building a sandcastle, he just closed his eyes.
He shifted himself as he sat there, attempting to be in a somewhat more relaxed position. From there, he just started to try and meditate. He tried to reflect on the bits and pieces that he knew, to try and divert his focus to that rather than continuing to spiral down into the pit like he was.
It wasn't easy.
All he had were fragments. No piece was big enough for him to achieve his goal.

Chel had arranged herself four towers, some walls and an inner "keep" in the form of a giant mound of sand by the time she spoke up. More than enough time for him to meditate quietly without interruption.
"This is nice."
