"Gram..." Jamie sounded absolutely exasperated. As much as he cared for his grandmother, anywhere but here would've been the ideal place to be right now. All he had to do was last until dad got off work, but each minute ticked by like an hour. It felt like he was begging the clock when he looked at it, golden rimmed and old fashioned on the wall. Go faster, please, go faster.

"Jamie," his grandma croaked, exhaustion obvious in her voice, "Go home already. You can't take your eyes off that darn clock."

He sighed. He felt bad, but he sighed. "I-I'm supposed to, um, help you with rehab. Theyyyy gave you homework, remember? They gave you a sheet." As he held it out, she stood far too quickly from her seat and stumbled into the wall. Both of them screamed. It probably sounded like someone was dying and it hadn't been the first time that day.

"I don't need that darn rehab!" she yelled, her voice alight with renewed vigor as she clung to the wall. "Throw that sheet away!"

There had been a call. It was one part noise complaint, and one part concern over someone possibly dying. Shun had been in the area, after investigating something nearby, so he decided to swing on over to see what the fuss was all about. He parked the unmarked vehicle outside the household and made his way up to the door.

He could hear some of the shouting from within from here already. All he heard so far was "Throw that sheet away!"

It didn't give him much context as to what the hell was going on in here.

Furrowing his brow, he knocked upon the door, then waited patiently.

"P-Please, Gram, just... sit back down. Please. Y-You're gonna hurt your hip again." It had taken everything in him to keep her from overworking herself in the first place. This break was the first one in hours and he wasn't sure she should've been up more than a few minutes at a time.

"I'm gonna water the plants, Jamie!" she told him, still shouting, struggling to get into the kitchen to fetch her watering can. If there weren't dishes to do, the plants were her go-to when she was frustrated. Jamie had his hand on her elbow—gently, of course—trying to stop her when there was a knock at the door. "Go get that, would you?" Grandma won this round as she tore away from his grip.

"What now...?" was the whisper under his breath as he left her for the door. He was shocked when the face on the other side was familiar. "D-D-Detective Kuroda?" he stammered, "W-What are you doing here?"

There was another voice inside, though he couldn't hear it as well. He did catch the name 'Jamie', but he didn't think much of it, as it was a relatively common name. However, it turned out that it was the Jamie that he knew, as the wererabbit was the one to answer the door. It was a bit of a surprise, to say in the least.

Shun blinked down at the young man, "There had been a noise complaint call... which also expressed concerns over some sort of domestic violence."

Jamie didn't seem like the sort to be able to do that, so he looked him over, trying to spot any signs of bruising.

"Is everything alright, Jamie?"

"D-D-D-Domestic violence??" Jamie paled and it was probably noticeable. "Oh my... god." For a second he forgot he was talking to a police officer, forgot that he should probably be formal, and turned back towards the inside of the house, covering his face with his hands. "Graaaam!" he called between his fingers, voice drenched in embarrassment.

"What is it? Who is it?" came the response from the kitchen, just beyond the living room, and Jamie's hands shot away from his face. He turned back around with equal speed.

"I-I'm sorry, um, about that, I- E-Everything is fine, it-"

"Who is it I said? Jamie??" Grandma, Bernadine by name, hobbled her away into the living room then, watering can full and heavy in one hand. When she saw Shun, her sour expression lessened as if her bad mood had been momentarily forgotten. "Aren't you a handsome one?" Jamie could be heard groaning audibly as she spoke. "What can I do for you, young man? Come in! Come in! Don't just stand in the doorway, you're letting the chill in."

Shun's eyes narrowed as he took note of Jamie's reaction. He saw his face visibly pale. Fear? He didn't see any signs of harm done to him, but abuse came in many forms.

"Are you certain about that, Jamie?" he asked quietly. Before too long, he saw the elderly woman behind the boy, further back. He just sort of furrowed his brow, not really sure what to make of the handsome one comment. Did he just get hit on by an old lady?

"Detective Shun Kuroda," he greeted as he stepped through the threshold, "There was a call about some disturbances from this household. I came by to make sure everything is alright, ma'am."

"A detective!" Bernadine exclaimed, "How wonderful, you're doing great things. Keep up the good work! Bernadine Delacroix," she went to hold her hand out for a shake, but it was undeniably full of watering can. "Ah, we can chat about this disturbance or whatever it is the neighbors are heeing and hawing about this time. Let me just put this in the kitchen. Don't want water spilling all over the carpet."

As she turned to head back to the kitchen, Jamie was quick to pipe up with, "L-Let me do that, Gram. Please?" With a touch of reluctance, she let him take it as she waved Shun further inside.

"Let me tell you- Shun, was it? Let me tell you, Shun, there aren't any disturbances here except for my pesky grandson! And I think he hardly counts."

This elderly woman was certainly... spirited. She was a complete opposite to her grandson. He looked down as she extended her... watering can. He would have shaken her hand, but the can kind of was in the way of that. He furrowed his brow, not completely sure what to do about that.

"Of course, Mrs. Delacroix," he nodded as he followed her. As he walked, he kept an eye on the woman. She looked as though she might topple over at any moment.

"I see. There were reports of some shouting coming from here. Was there an argument? Or rather... is there anyone else here aside from you two currently?" he asked, looking around all the while. His gaze also fell upon Jamie, checking on his reactions.

Shun was certainly right about one thing, she might topple over at any moment. Luckily for everyone involved, Bernadine made it back to her plush, floral chair without incident, grunting with effort as she maneuvered into it. On his return, Jamie sat awkwardly on the couch closest to her chair while she motioned for the detective to pick his own poison: anywhere else on the couch or another chair positioned at an angle on the other side.

"There might've been a tiny argument," she admitted, sounding unapologetic as she looked at Jamie. "Sit, Shun, sit and I'll tell you about it." In the meantime, there was a short interlude between grandmother and grandchild.

"Did you introduce yourself to the detective?"

"I-I know Detective Kuroda already..."

"Ah, wonderful!"

And then Bernadine's attention was on Shun again as if it had never left. "There's no one here but the two of us. Jamie's father, that darn son of mine, left him here to try and force me into things. I can make my own choices and I'm certainly not going to be bossed around by an eighteen-year-old whippersnapper!"

As if on cue, Jamie held the worksheet out to Shun. It detailed multiple exercises she was supposed to do, rehabilitation for her recovering hip. He looked absolutely ragged and apologetic as he did so. This was a complete waste of time for the detective, he thought, and unbelievably embarrassing.

Shun just sort of awkwardly looked at his options, standing around in the meantime. After a moment or so, he just sat on the other end of the couch. He couldn't exactly stick around for too long anyway. Once he had seated himself, he turned his attention to the elderly woman. At the mention of attempting to force her to do things, he raised his brow at Jamie questioningly.

He reached out to take the worksheet. It was a bit difficult for him to read, but he took some time to at least get the gist of it.

"Is there a particular reason why you are refusing to do these... exercises?"

She certainly seemed like she could use them, given the way she was moving around. He couldn't read too much into detail. Not now anyway. He didn't have the time for that.

"They're a waste of time!" was her quick reply. "I'm capable enough and I've got far, far too many things to do around the house. I can't just take breaks willy nilly. They got enough of those exercises out of me at the clinic!"

Despite knowing she'd give him a look for it—which she did without hesitation—Jamie piped up, "Gram just got over a hip injury... S-She's supposed to be continuing rehab at home. Like, y'know, homework. I-It's only for a month..."

"Do you hear this, Shun? My own grandson," she tutted.

Yes. Spirited was certainly a word to put it. Stubborn as well. Shun tilted his head, passing the worksheet back over to Jamie.

Lately, it seemed that a lot of domestic disturbances were over fairly trivial things. Banana bread... and now this. It could be far, far worse, he supposed.

The detective clasped his hands together, thinking.

"Perhaps... try thinking about it in another manner. I am certain you are more than capable, but putting up with it for a little while could mean your grandson... and others may stop badgering you about getting it done."

Jamie was grateful for Shun's attempt at diplomacy despite how the situation was steadily revealing itself as something he didn't really need to be involved in. Though he wasn't sure it would work, when he looked over at his grandma, he was surprised her expression was not outright rebellious.

"A month is a long time to waste just to appease people." Bernadine rubbed at her chin. "I doubt they could hold out as long as me. They'd probably give up sooner." With a creaky laugh, she slapped the palm of her hand against the arm of the chair a few times before continuing, "I can tell you're a sharp man, though, Shun. You probably thought about that. Tell you what, let this old woman have your company another ten minutes and I'll make a promise to try. I don't get many visitors, you know."

Turning to Jamie, she said, "Put some tea on, would you?" Except he turned to Shun to make sure it was alright to leave before he did so.

There was a slight twitch in his fingers, but his expression didn't change at all. Well if this was going to help stop some of the disturbances... he supposed he could put up with this. Ten minutes wasn't that long.

"Very well Mrs. Delacroix. You seem like a strong woman. I am certain you can deal with these exercises for a month without issue," he stated quietly.

"Does your family not stop by often?"

If Bernadine were a bird, her feathers would've been puffed with pride at the compliment. It was one way to win her over, even if she knew they weren't without purpose. These darn kids, trying to sway her into the exercises. They just didn't know when to give up, but a promise was a promise.

"They stop by often enough," she told him, "It's just not quite the same. I don't get out like I used to, I don't get to meet new people. It can be frustrating." Her eyes showed their age for a split second, but that's when Jamie came back with the tea.

Setting a cup down for each of them, he muttered to Shun, "You don't have to drink it if you don't want... but it's lavender."
