It was a sunny Saturday, warm light filtering between the trees of the Destiny City Park. Joggers and dogwalkers went about their daily business. Birds sang as they fluttered from branch to branch, unbothered by the people running about below them, phones in hand – no-one here was trying to catch birds.

Kirra Rose Morrow, age ten years and nearly three whole days, practically bounced on the balls of her bright yellow sneakered feet as her family began setting up. Not only had she got a brand new phone for her birthday, and not only had her parents loaded Pokemon Go on it for her, but today she was having a birthday party! She was going to become a real pokemon trainer! And so were all her friends!

The picnic area they’d staked out was a Pokestop, and today it looked like it even with her phone off. A large target-shaped banner featuring a wild Pikachu in the centre circle had been draped over a nearby tree branch. Red-and-white painted bouncy balls lay in a basket beside it. The plastic picnic rugs were decorated with pokeballs, too. Even the plastic plates and cups were red and white. Her dad, setting up the barbeque, and her mum, laying out the food, both had white lab coats on over their normal clothes. Kirra had helped her cousin Gigi arrange a Pokemon Team Fruit Platter with yellow banana slices, red strawberries and blue blueberries. And they’d put labels on the little drink bottles - Water, Soda Pop and Lemonade - all lined up on one of the picnic tables.

Gigi, for her part, had decorated a serious-looking first aid kit with some very unserious Chansey CCG doubles, and was now curled up on a picnic chair beside it, reading a book. Occasionally, Kirra noticed she looked up and stared into the trees, or at the dog-walkers, but Kirra couldn’t see anything weird. So probably Gigi was just weird, she concluded.

It wasn’t very long before everything was ready.

“Need any help with the snags, love?” her mum asked her dad, setting down some boxes that Kirra hadn’t seen before.

“Nope, in the esky all ready to go,” her dad said, giving the cooler a nudge with his foot. “Just gotta get the barbie going.”

“Cool,” said her mother. “The first lure’s up. I’m going to head over to the other two pokestops to set those lures.”

Kirra opened her new phone, and sure enough, the picnic area lure was active, though no pokemon appeared on her radar yet. The playground she could just see across the field was another Pokestop. In the other direction, out of sight behind the trees, there was a statue where two walking tracks crossed. That was the third stop. They were all three no more than ten minutes’ walk from each other – Kirra bet she could run it in five.

“What can I do?” she asked, wondering if she could help with the lures, but her mum shook her head.

“You, Kirra-bird, go keep a look-out for your guests. They should be here any minute. Kay?”

“Kaaaay!”

Pokemon parties weren't really Briar's style and if it had been anyone else asking then he probably would have said no.

Scratch that he would have very much said no.

But it was Kirra, who had asked him, during one of their tree climbing meet ups and Briar didn't have it in him to tell his tree climbing buddy and superhero partner no...

And besides pokemon go was pretty neat.

Which was why he had spent part of the morning wrapping up his present for Kirra - a pikachu-themed pencil case and a book of pokemon go tips and hints - and whilst the wrapping was a little haphazard and messy, he'd at least done it himself.

Briar turned a corner and slipped through some trees spotting the party set up first and then he spotted Kirra and freed a hand from the present he was carrying so that he could wave at his shorter friend "Hey Kirra."

Sean hadn't been invited to the party, and in fact had no idea it was going on. He'd just come to the park to play Pokemon Go. A friend of his had told him he really needed to try this game, so he dutifully downloaded it and booted it up. And it was pretty fun! He'd spent the last few days wandering around the park periodically and thought he had the hang of it now.

He had just come to the park for today's Pokemon Go walk, capturing pokemon and spinning Pokestops. He'd just captured another Pidgey when one of the Pokestops nearby started spouting pink flower petals. "Cool, a lure!" he commented at the sight. Maybe something new would pop up there. Catching all the Pidgeys and Weedles was fine, but it was exciting to see new pokemon.

He headed towards the brightly-colored lure, but slowed when he saw brightly-colored adornment in the real world as well. All the red and white decorations made it clear there was some kind of pokemon-themed party going on. "Huh," he said, looking over the scene from several yards away. "Probably a kid's party. They might not like teens hanging around. Pity, it looks like fun."

Catching Pokemon was so much easier when he was powered-up, Caelum had come to find that out quite early on; especially when it came to maneuvering between Pokestops. However, there was only so much the fourteen old could take of faceplanting on rooftops (he still hadn't nailed landings yet). So that day, he decided to take it easy and find Pokemon the good ole-fashioned way—walking around on his two legs while venturing through the park.

And it was just his luck, too. Someone had dropped some lures nearby! With his phone in hand, he trekked over toward their locations, but like several of the others nearby, most seemed surprised to see the Pokemon theme jump from the augmented reality world to, well, reality. Well, the party before him certainly explained the too-good-to-be-true opportunity. Caelum seemed to frown a little.

Would it be awkward if he just stood there waiting around for Pokemon? Or could he segue himself into the party without drawing any attention to himself?

"Aww, this sucks," he grimaced. "I don't even have a present."

Kirra scanned the park with a hand to her forehead, turning slowly in a circle. She wasn’t sure which direction her party guests would be arriving from, after all. She spotted a couple of older kids with their phones out – one with orange hair, and one with pink, but it wasn’t until a teen with bright red hair approached that her hand shot into the air in return greeting.

“Briar! You came! I’m so happy!” she called out to him, a wide smile plastering itself across her face. “You’re the first one here!”

She ran the rest of the way over to meet her tall friend, waving happily to the other two boys as she passed them.

There were a couple of other boys in this section of the park, with the pink-haired one (Caelum) looking to be around about his age, however neither of them looked like they were part of the party...

Well at least Briar was kind of assuming that they weren't, although he also didn't know for certain as he had no idea about who else had been invited.

Kirra had spotted him however and he gave her a small smile as she approached "Sure I did" he said "And I brought my phone too."

And slightly awkwardly "By the way this is for you" he held the messily wrapped present in his hand out towards her, nervously hoping that he'd picked okay since he hadn't been sure what to get her "Happy Birthday Kirra."

Sean smiled as a girl excitedly greeted her friend, and he waved back at her as she passed. Then he saw her wave at someone else as well, and turned to look. It seemed he wasn't the only trainer to be attracted by the lures, because a pink-haired boy was standing by with a phone of his own. Sean assumed the boy wasn't affiliated with the party, since he hadn't gotten an excited greeting.

Sean liked chatting with other players when he saw them, so he wandered over to the pink-haired boy. "Hey there," he said, greeting the boy with a wave. "You playing Pokemon Go too, huh? Catch anything good today?" His phone buzzed, prompting him to glance down at the screen. "Oh hey, there's an Oddish nearby." He tapped on the pokemon to try and catch the little leafy bulb-thing.

Caelum's attention was momentarily averted from his phone as he noticed a young girl (Kirra) shoot her hand in the air to greet her friend. One wave seemed to be directed his way, so he casually returned it with a twiddle of his own fingers.

Must be the birthday girl, he noted, watching the exchange of a present go from a boy (Briar) to the girl who had motioned to him before. Now he really felt out of place. Would it be rude to encroach? Even with all of the lures?

This thought was short-lived when Sean approached him. "Heya, hi," he said to him, greeting him with the hand that held his phone. "Yea, I've been playing it nonstop since the summer. I've caught a few uncommon Pokemon, but nothing rare-rare." His attention piqued by the mention of an Oddish, Caelum looked at his phone as well. "I know someone who absolutely loves the Oddish line. They'd be so happy for a Vileplume, heh."

Looks like the other boy was willing to chat. Not all players were; some just wanted to get on with catching pokemon, which was fine. No need to bother people if they weren't interested, but since he was...

"You've been playing all summer?" Sean asked, looking up at the other boy with raised eyebrows, showing he was surprised and/or impressed. "You've probably caught a lot more than me. I've only been playing about a week or so. I'm still trying to get enough Oddish to evolve one." He looked back at his phone in time to see is proclaim the pokemon was caught. "Yes, that's three candies closer to getting a Gloom. No, make that four candies," he corrected himself. He had to remember to count the one you'd get from transferring pokemon.

With the distraction gone, he turned his attention back to his fellow trainer. "So, what're some of the rarer pokemon you've caught, then?"

Abigail Miller

Pokemon wasn't really her thing but when Abby was passed a invitation to birthday party she asked around and learned about it. It was pretty much a collection game with cute animals, what wasn't to like. Besides, when she showed the invitation to her father he insisted she go since she really did need to know her classmates more. She needed more friends and to be more social. So that's how she ended up at this party for a younger student at her school, one she might have said hello to in passing but not too terribly much more as far as she remembered.

Nervously she smoothed her shirt, checking to make sure that it was just right, before picking up the gift bag with the wrapped box and stuffed animal in it. As she walked into the park Abby had a moment of mental realization, she really had no clue if Kirra would like the pokemon monopoly game or the Eevee plush. She really didn't know much at all. Even after reaching the location of the party she stood off to the side, not really sure what she should be doing.

Kirra gave Briar a joyous smile, accepting the wrapped gift. “You got me a present?! Thank you so much!”

Of course, birthday parties equalled presents, but she didn’t want to be greedy – having all her friends come out to play with her was more than enough of a present! But he’d bought her something, and it looked like he’d even wrapped it himself instead of getting his mum to do it – she loved it already.

She ushered Briar over to the party food – mostly still covered with cling-wrap to keep the bugs out, though there were fruits and chocolates and chips to start. She dropped down onto one of the picnic rugs to start unwrapping, but she was distracted as more friends started to arrive. She noticed one of the older girls from her school, stopped just short of the party area. Kirra waved to her as well.

“Abby!” she called, hoping she was remembering the name right. “Thank you for coming!”

Amelia Morrow, mother, arrived back from setting the last pokemon lure, and did a quick head-count of the children who’d come for her kid’s birthday. One thing very quickly became clear – for all the invites Kirra had printed off, there were not as many kids here as she’d catered for. Still, they were in the middle of a park – hopefully they could give away some of the excess instead of carrying it home. It was too late to worry about now. She had a party to run.

Amelia raised both hands in the air, her white labcoat billowing around her, and blew on a whistle to attract the kids, beckoning them over. She waited for Kirra and her guests to gather, before beginning her explanation.

Attention, pokemon trainers! Are you ready to be the very best, like no-one ever was? I’m Professor Juniper, and this is Professor Willow.

Kirra’s dad waved his barbeque tongs in greeting.

Today you’re all going to become Pokemon Trainers! But before we let you out in the long grass, we need to make sure you know how to catch a pokemon!

She stepped over to the large hanging target party game, Pikachu at the centre, and picked up a red-and-white bouncy ball from the basket beside it.

To prove you have what it takes, we want you to show us your best pokemon-catching technique. You can throw your pokeball from a distance, or sneak up close.

Amelia threw her ball underarm at the target, hitting an edge. She retrieved the ball, moving back to the picnic table to retrieve two large boxes. The first contained red, blue and yellow plastic sun visors.

When you’ve had a go, we’ll give you your Trainer Certificate, a Trainer hat,” she indicated the visors, “and most important, your Starter Pokemon!

Amelia flipped open the lid of the second box, revealing a multitude of colourful cupcakes decorated as Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle. There was no denying now that they’d overcatered. Even if all the kids wanted the same pokemon, there would still be enough.

Once you’ve got your Starter, it’s time to catch pokemon,” she continued. “Everyone with a phone, hands up! Great – if you don’t have your own phone, team up with one of these guys! Make sure everyone gets a chance to catch some pokemon. In about an hour, I’ll blow the whistle again – come on back to show us your pokemon! And because we are Professors, we’ll give you some candy!

All good? Okay, who’s first?

She held out the bouncy pokeball to the kids.

Party game prompt for anyone who wants to, or you can skip it and get straight to playing Pokemon Go. Lures are now active on three Pokestops.

Briar gave Kirra another small smile and let her tug - well make that - followed as she led him over to where some snacks had been set out.

And whilst a part of him still wasn't sure on what she'd think about his present, it didn't stop him from helping himself to a bit of chocolate.

He was nibbling on said chocolate when Kirra suddenly started waving at someone, reddish eyes looking up to follow the movement, although the girl she was waving to
(Abigail) wasn't one that Briar was familiar with.

And then a lady dressed in a white lab coat was calling out and asking them all to gather round, but whilst she called herself "Professor Juniper", Briar recognised her as being Kirra's Mum since he'd occasionally seen her at the playground.

He had raised his hand dutifully when she'd asked about phones and had listened to her as he munched on the rest of the chocolate.

No one seemed to be volunteering to be going first however and so after a quick look at Kirra he said "I don't mind going first" as he stood up.

User ImageShe had spent the last couple of days trying to find her something that wouldn't be too cliche. She had finally found something she figured Kirra would like. As she sat in the backseat of the car as her parents drove towards the park. They had been running a little late due to the fact Orion had gotten outside and Nadia refused to leave until they had safely gotten her back inside. With the present on her lap she had decided to go with a little time warp and get her a Nintendo DS and some of the newer pokemon games. While it wasn't exactly related to Pokemon Go, it was still pokemon themed. As they pulled up she gave her parents a warm smile and knew they'd be back later to pick her up.

Making her way to the small gathering of kids she waved at the other kids she had seen around school and walked up to Kirra with a warm smile. "Hi Kirra! Happy Birthday.." She said with a broad smile and handed her the gift wrapped in red wrapper with a white ribbon and black bow. She was trying to keep to the theme at least. "I'm not too late am I?" She asked hoping she wasn't. It just seemed to her that there was quite a bit going on and wasn't sure if she had missed anything.

Today was the day she had heard a fellow school mate of hers was having a party. It sounded like fun! As she walked towards the park with a gift in her hand and wearing a outfit that was as pokemon themed as she could get it. The gift though was - Square - wrapped with a brilliant sparkling glittery curly black bow - and the wrapping paper was black and had red glittering bats on it. It made her happy just looking at. She hoped the birthday girl would like it was well.

More so though she figured it wouldn't hurt to stop by and help make someones birthday have one extra person. Even if they may not remember her from school - after all she was a tad bit older. Though she did have a few fun classes with her. But she wanted to try her best to try and maybe even try to make some friends. This was a whole new experience for Sabrina. Since she didn't really have any friends since she moved.

"Well it looks like fun!"
she said as she walked up towards the party she could now see in her eyes. Full of pokemon fans and kids she recognized from school. "Hiya Kira! Happy Birthday - sorry I got stuck walking so I'm a little late," she said with one hand behind her head shyly as she handed the gift over towards the birthday girl.

A day to herself something she didn't have often. Amigar was almost not sure what she was going to do. Then it hit her! Pokemon Go of course! She raced upstairs to change clothes and then out the door in no time at all.

She quickly pulled out her phone and began her hunt walking down the sidewalk. She was dressed in her cute Umbreon outfit (her favorite pokemon of course) and her phone played with her fingertips. Pokemon go after all - was about catching them all. Part of her hoped maybe her outfit would help with the game and give her a little bit of lucks edge.

She slowly entered the park and noticed a weird group of lures refreshing. "Pokemon!" she said happily as she jumped up and down. Curious as she always was she raced over towards them. Entering the amazing smelling Kiara's Birthday Party. Unknowingly of course, but full of excitement as she hoped a pokemon would show itself soon.

LokisRose
This sounds like so fun - I hope it's alright me joining in a little bit late. >< Thank you for such a great rp tho and I finally get to show off Amigar's Umbreon outfit lol..
