After he had returned to his apartment, feeling a heavy and weak, he tried to go on about with his usual routine. Shun had difficulty focusing on much of anything, however. The things Jeremiah had said to him were still all too fresh in his mind. He wished there was something he could do, but honestly... he wasn't sure if he had it in him at this point. Mercer said that he had yet to see anything come of him.
Had he really been lying that day he stopped by here?
His fists clenched as he stood there in the kitchen, words repeating over and over in his head. He felt dejected, fury, loss.
Who's taking control of his life? Apparently not him. Self-doubt had stolen his soul for now, and he wasn't sure if he'd be able to get it back. Someone without purpose such as himself didn't have a place here.
Sighing heavily, he opened up his fridge and stared within. Something caught his attention; a bottle of booze that Chel had left behind one day. He hadn't thrown it out. He knew it was a bad idea. He knew he was going to regret it the next morning. But he also knew that he wouldn't remember much of the night afterwards. And quite frankly, he wanted to drown some of these thoughts out.
It was incredibly pathetic of him.
"I do not care..." he uttered to himself. He was already useless. This was just adding a drop of water to an ocean. Nothing he did would be making him whole anyway. Not at this point.

Chel was at work, wishing she could clone herself so that she wouldn't have to stand behind this counter anymore. She'd been here for far too long and was tired. Her feet hurt, she'd had a slushie spilled on her- not the best day so far. But she was getting paid money. That was what mattered. One step closer to a bike.
She lost herself in thought for a moment as she looked at the fridges full of beer. It would be nice once she finally had her bike. She'd take a long road trip, sleep at sleezy motels and drink herself silly whenever she wanted.
Truth be told, Chel envied America a little bit. The woman roamed as she pleased while Chel hid scared in Ashdown. The conversation she'd had earlier in Jericho's ... it was a bit sobering. Chel couldn't understand why the woman wanted to set down roots here. Some people were dying to rip theirs out after all.
The doorbell jingled and Chel's train of thought was disrupted. She opened the fridge door and picked out the six pack she wanted. Lately it felt like all she could do was buy beer. She'd always been a juice person, it was just ... lately ...
Well that wasn't important right now. She pulled out her cell phone from her pocket to make a call.
"Wish there was somethin' else than you," she muttered at her phone, squinting as she dialed a number. Diana was sick and Jack had some kind of midterm thing this week. "But you better pick up yer damn phone."
Shun would hear his phone ring.

Shun stared at the bottle a little longer, then went on and grabbed it, popping its cap off. This was such a bad idea, but again, he didn't care right now.
He made his way over to the couch, flipping on the TV. Maybe some background noise would help. There was a soft scurrying sound from the rat cage not too far off. With a sigh, he set the bottle down and went over to check on the critter. She looked to be happy. Which was more than what he could say for himself.
"Hello... hello," he said softly to the rat, opening the door to the cage. He took out a small treat of sorts from a nearby bag, and held it out onto his palm, just outside. Sniffing about, the rat came on out to investigate.
She began to nibble at the treat, then retreated back into the cage. Shun closed the door, and returned to the couch.
"Hello hello everyone!" the voice called from the tv. It was some stupid award show. He changed the channel. About then, his phone rang. Begrudgingly, he answered.
"Hello? ... Hello?" There had been a bit of static at first.

"Hello, hello batman- callin' your name into the phone fer like 3 years- thanks fer pickin' up. ********' beat- you wanna smash or watch a movie or somethin'?" She rubbed one of her shoulders as she placed the six pack on the counter. She was on her way out the door, but was making an employee discount purchase of some alcohol before leaving. It took a moment to fish out her ID but she did and she placed it on the counter, looking at the guy taking over for her with some slight pity.
It had gotten to be somewhat late; about 11 or so. Not too late for Chel the night owl, but potentially for Shun the hardworking cop.
She didn't peel the phone from her shoulder, leaning over as she set some crumpled, ugly dollar bills next to the ID. The employee gave her a look for her conversation about sex so openly, but Chel only shot him a look back saying you want to know? That intimidated him enough to drop it, even nonverbally.

He knew it was Chel, but for whatever reason, there was a large amount of static and interference. It was really hard to understand what she was saying.
"What you say? You are breaking up... what you say to me?" he asked, letting out a sigh. Shun ran a hand through his hair, waiting for the damn reception to clear up. Though, he was tempted to just hang up anyway. He wasn't really wanting to deal with Chel right now.
The detective glanced to the TV. Now it was some sort of cheesy as ******** soap opera. A woman was sobbing heavily into the shirt of some dude.
"Wish that I could be with you, Jack. But I can't. I... I... I'm pregnant with Tom!"
And channel changed.

"M'lookin' t'smash and seein' if you a dude who wants the same," she said, rolling her eyes. "Listen-"
"Hello, hello!" the cashier said to the person who had opened the door prior. The cashier gave Chel a look; get out of here, we have customers. Chel rolled her eyes, picked up her ID and tucked it into the side of the six pack, moving towards the door with her phone on her shoulder all the while.
"Hello ..." The customer said shyly, stepping up to the counter. Then with more confidence, "Ah, hello. Do you have ..."
Chel didn't bother listening to the rest of the conversation. "Sounds like my phone's bein' shitty. I'll just ask when m'up there."

Some twenty or so minutes later, Chel pounded on his door still in uniform and beer in hand. She just wanted to check if he was amicable to the idea at all; if he was she'd go put her things in Chris' place and come back, but if he wasn't it saved the trip.
"Helloooo," Chel called from the hallway into the apartment door. "Shun? Hello?" Maybe he wasn't home.

"Who wants the same of what?" Shun asked. The phone was starting to get frustrating. It was a pain in the a** to try and understand what the hell Chel wanted.
"Hello? ... Hello? Chel? ******** it."
He was stuck there, calling her name for a second or so more before he just hung up. Or maybe it was her who hung up. It was hard to say. Shaking his head, he looked back towards the opened bottle upon his coffee table.

When Chel came pounding at his door, he had already downed more than half of the bottle. His mind was already in a haze, as it really didn't take much of anything to get him drunk. There he sat, watching some weird sci-fy movie.

Bumbling up to his feet, he made his way to the door.

She could hear clone ... clone being muttered from inside. What the hell movie was Shun watching that clone could be such an important detail?
When he opened the door she began her, "Hello-" but was interrupted by Shun acting ... weird. Not bad. Chel couldn't say she didn't like the forward greeting. Over his shoulder she said, "An' hello Rosie, doll."
Looking back at Shun she somewhat tiredly said, "S'been a long day- just wonderin' f'you were down to smash. Wish there was somethin' else I could do 'cause I don't like botherin' you on work nights but Di's sick and Jack's busy so." She gave a little show of jazz fingers gesturing to Shun and then swept aside some of her long hair. "You down?"

"Yer drunk," she ventured, stepping into the apartment, shutting the door behind her and being extra sure to lock it. She did not want Shun escaping into the streets and then having to deal with that hellstorm later.
"CLONE! CLONE! You're a CLONE!" went the TV and even Chel had to cringe. She'd seen this one before. "Why did you clone your lover?" Igh. She hadn't seen this movie since she was little, come to think of it. It was one of those "oh no technology is bad" movies from the late eighties/early nineties.
She had a thousand questions but making sure Shun was okay was more important. "I don't got a lover, but I guess f'they were down, sure." Chel lived by a policy of "try most everything at least once." "Soooo, what stole yer soul tonight? How many you downed?"
"The consequences .... when you clone your lover, you lose the original to your imagination!!"

"PFfftttt... You wanna know how much? Ooone. Jus one, Chel," he slurred, holding one finger up. Shun now had what was possibly the stupidest grin upon his face. He turned back towards the couch, and flopped on down onto it, turning his attention back to the television. There were three identical women upon the screen.
"Why are you so upset over what I've done? If you clone your lover, you will never be alone again! Look at this. I will always have Anna with me now."
"But you wouldn't have been alone. You have people here for you. Real people. You can clone your lover as many times as you want, but none of them will have Anna's true soul!"

She followed him to the couch, watching him idly. Only one beer did this to him? No wonder he never drank.
Yet ... she found herself gifted with a great opportunity. She pulled out her phone and gave Shun a little wave to look over. "Hey Shun, smile yeah?" As they said, a picture was worth a thousand words. Who's taking control now?

All three soulless looking women said this at the same time. Their voice was hollow. There was no emotion behind the words. It might have been kind of creepy if it wasn't so poorly done.

Chel took two pictures for posterity. She wasn't a blackmailing type, but they might come in handy. She'd delete them if asked.
"I don't care f'we do it right this second," she said with a shrug. "Why was you drinkin' anyways?" Chel finally took the time to set down the beer and kick off her shoes. Then she peeled off her stupid work polo and sat there in her bra regardless. If Shun was drunk and didn't give a ********, neither did she.
(But then she was like that most of the time anyways).
