It was getting closer to the time that Mneme and Melete would move into their junior years- something that Mneme was both excited about, and scared of. That meant a new room, possibly with a new roommate... they wouldn't separate him from his brother, he knew that much, but still! What if they got a new roommate or two that wasn't as nice as Ruxandra was? What if they were messy!! Granted, Rux was a little messy, but it was a tolerable sort of messy...
Honestly, that was just one of Mneme's worries. The caretakers had told him that juniors were supposed to start focusing on what they want to be when they leave school, so they can get a good head start. Mneme didn't know anything about what he wanted to be... He'd always just... assumed he'd stay with Melete forever. It hadn't really dawned on him until recently that he couldn't rely on his twin to take care of him for the rest of his life- and he... didn't really want to bother Melete with that sort of responsibility. Melete was good with hair, he knew that his brother would stick with that... but what was he good at?
Nothing, really. Nothing but keeping things super clean and organized. You couldn't do anything worth while with those skills... could you?
It was several days he spent in this back-and-forth worrying about what he was going to do before he heard someone mention that their father was a "professional organizer." That caught Mneme's interest right away. People were paid to organize things for other people? That seemed almost too good to be true! Sure enough, after he'd asked a caretaker for more information, it turned out that professional organizers were very needed! They did all sorts of things, and Mneme couldn't help but think that might just be something he could do.
He just needed to figure out how to tell Melete! He was sure his twin would insist that he needn't worry about such things, but he didn't want to hold Melete back. It was going to be time sooner or later that he be able to support himself, at least a little bit. He never wanted to leave his twin's side, not if he could help it... but being able to help out in some way would benefit both of them.
Maybe he could even organize Melete's hair salon when he opened one- if that was something Melete needed... his brother was neat and clean all on his own! And he was certain Melete would get his own salon, after all, he really was good with hair. Mneme really didn't think they'd ever fully separate- he was too prone to sickness to live on his own and he didn't really see Melete telling him he'd have to. He was sure Melete would try to take care of him for the rest of their lives if he could! Melete was a good brother like that, after all.
With that in mind, he settled down that night to figure out how to propose his future career idea to Melete. He'd just do it enough to help with any future costs they might have since they couldn't live at the Academy forever and have things paid for, after all.
