As Nuri turned away from where he had fallen, brushing off his sandy pants and adjusting his whip, he evaluated the scene before him. One of the two males was gone, but the mother seemed even more furious, and now he could see why. From the angle where he stood, a small cave showed a young face, peering out and cowering a bit from behind its mother. It was small thing, and it seemed hopelessly helpless. It wasn't old enough to run, and although it probably was weaned it was by no means in any shape to survive if something happened to it's mother.
And then, something did.
The male rushed the female with a charge, and slammed her away from the cave. Letting out a curse, Nuri turned to Naraka and took the risk.
"Quick, get between the pup and the two, we can't let it get hurt!"
Naraka, also a bit uncertain, slowly moved between the two, alert and aware that at any moment the mother could turn and strike. Instead, Nuri tried to find a safe way to break the fight up while the young Janarim began to scream. Oh this was just getting better and better.
The mother, distracted for a moment by her young's screams, glanced away just in time for the male to take her down. It was a quick rush, she tried to move and to shake him off but he had too much of a hold on her neck. In no time at all, she fell away lifeless, leaving the male to focus its attention on Nuri and Naraka.
The young Janarim still screamed, and it was rattling Nuri's ears and nerves.
Outside of that, the heavy breathing of the male as it turned toward him was all Nuri focused on, and he felt a chill run down his spine as he took in the scene. His heart ached a bit for the fallen mother, but he couldn't think about that. The beast before him was dangerous and he needed to make sure he ran it off or took it out. They were too close to the path, too close to people who could get hurt, and that was something he couldn't let pass.
So, he unwound his whip, ignored his aching side from where he fell earlier, and took a long, deep breath. As his whip fell to the ground, the beast lept up, and Naraka moved quickly to intercept. Both slammed into each other, but it seemed Naraka had a bit more power and pushed the creature back. It was then Nuri realized he couldn't quite face such a large thing, and so he turned to work on the smaller one. This time, however, he constantly kept an eye on his companion, and prepared to strike out if needed.
The small Janarim was whimpering and whining, and had sharp teeth that seemed keen to snap off his finger if he got too close. It was in a small cave, and Nuri knelt down on his knees before softly shushing the small animal. This was a bit easier, he simply needed to grab it and keep it calm, something he was familiar with. It reminded him of when he first caught Naraka, of how he raised the creature and how dedicated the creature was now.
Gently, he moved his hand out to the whimpering creature, slowly and pausing at each flinch that occurred. Even with the small thing being a baby, it still was dangerous and could cause harm. It was the snarl, however, that took his mind away from the small creature to focus back on the battle.
Naraka was pushing the male back, growling and grumbling as the two pushed and pulled and fought for control. It did appear his familiar, much more controlled, was taking the upper hand. But, the other was a wild card, and Nuri was concerned that it might be too much if they went on long enough.
Turning back to the small pup, he leaned down and decided to just pick it up. Wrapping it in his cape, he shushed the animal until it settled, before holding it in one arm and his whip in the other.
"Naraka, we need to move." The beast seemed to respond, and Nuri quickly moved to get to high ground. Naraka too moved high and began to roar at the creature, who thought to jump up until Nuri snapped his whip a few times in the Janarim's face. The creature considered following, but eventually stepped back and turned away to sniff around it's newly claimed den.
