Among the number of plants Chris brought over to Thorne's apartment that first time, the pot that Chris had gotten from Wis was not in the mix. He hadn't planted anything in it, for starters, having been swept up in one Other Ashdown thing and then another, but also he just didn't feel it was the right time to move it. To show Thorne this item, this weird thing he had, when they still were trying to forget they had been in Other Ashdown in the first place.
But on another trip back to his apartment, he had decided to take the pot back with him, plant some lavender in it, and let it mix in with Thorne's other herbs. If you didn't look too closely at it, it didn't seem that strange. But Chris knew how it was and he watched it closely, wondering what it did.
Today, now that the lavender had bloomed, Chris totally understood.
"Hey, Thorne?" He called, standing in front of the pot. The lavender in the pot looked totally normal.. except where the purple blooms normally were, there were now deep maroon and yellow blooms. It smelled faintly of citrus and cinnamon. It was frankly, creeping Chris out a little.

Thorne was sunbathing when Chris came into the warehouse, stretched out beneath a patch of sun without a shirt on. It was obvious he was fresh from the shower, wings out and stretched, the membrane glittering and dark even when touched by light. It was as though even it was afraid to touch him.
He cracked an eye open when Chris came in though, sitting up with a yawn and stretching. There was an untouched sketchpad beside him and a small, messy replica of the warehouse in 3D, made by cardboard and improvised pieces of glass and wood and leaves he had found laying around.
"What's up?" He asked. His eyes flicked to the pot. "New plant? Good, it as getting a bit - " He glances up at the jungle they've all but grown in here, a teasing grin on his face, "empty."

Chris raised an eyebrow at Thorne but little more - he was getting used to seeing Thorne without any shirts on, without anything on really. It was probably due to his wings, but it still was always an event. He had ignored him coming in, or rather, had decided to not bother him. Especially not when there was a 3D replica around, one that he could possibly ruin.
"Yeah, but come look at it, it's..." He struggled for a word, finally settling on, "weird. I planted lavender in here, but this sure as hell isn't lavender. I think it's from Other Ashdown."

Thorne smiled at the other, tucking his wings cleanly against his back. They were becoming easier to command, instead of completely involuntary attachments, their actions rooted in sense and touch and reaction.
Padding over to the other, he tilted his head and leaned down to get a scent of the plant. It didn't smell like lavender.
"Well," he said, curious, "Bergie will probably love it. Do you think it's safe?" He reached out and hesitated, looking up at Chris. "Is it alright if I...?"

"Bergie loves anything that doesn't eat him," Chris replied immediately, defiantly. Untrue, Bergie was absolutely picky in his affections, but it made Chris feel better to act like that. Thorne was right though, he would love this weird... lavender. Whatever it was.
"I think it is, but I'm not sure. I'm immune to everything now," Chris said cautiously, watching Thorne. "You're fine, go ahead and touch it, but be careful. I got this pot from Wis and I think it turns everything planted in it into something from Other Ashdown."
If he was guessing what she meant correctly, anyways.

"What a trusting cat," Thorne retorted with a laugh. "I'm glad he favors me, as terrible as I am."
He blinked at Chris, curious. "Immune?" he echoed, a quiet question in his tone, but there was something alive in his eyes like wonder. Like with every inch of the blond that was revealed, he fell a little deeper into reverence. "That's really neat, though I've no idea who Wis is."
He touches the pot gingerly, cradles it like a newborn thing. Whatever - whoever had given it to Chris must have been important.
"It's beautiful," Thorne says, "I wonder what kind of plants we could grow."

"He favors you because you sneak him food and aren't immune to his weird puppy eyes," Chris replied, but he laughed a little himself. "Not because you're terrible, although that's an argument for another time."
"Oh," Chris said, "I've never told you have I? I'm immune to poisons and things. Could eat, and have actually, poison ivy if I wanted to. Makes gardening way better, honestly." He hummed a little in thought, considering. "Wis is the spirit of a wisteria tree I met awhile ago, in Other Ashdown. Long before I could call Heddy. She gave this to me, a present."
He watches Thorne with a smile, glad to see him treasuring it as much as he did.
"Maybe roses next, I wonder what they'd be like," He offers, "Anything though really. The possibilities are endless."

Thorne grinned.
"An argument I will willingly accept," Thorne retorted and tilted his head. "No, you haven't, but then I suppose there's never been a reason to." He raised a brow. "Pray tell why you decided to eat poison ivy in the first place?"
He bowed his head into a slight now and rubbed his thumb over the pot, feeling the strange warmth that ebbed from it.
"She sounds amazing," Thorne murmured, "Wisteria is a beautiful plant. I wish I could have met her."
He laughs at the mention of roses and glances up at the other.
"We should try roses," he says, "See what colors they give us. What they grow. I don't mind the lavender though. It's - unique."

Chris laughed, giving Thorne an amused smile. "It doesn't come up in conversation often, no. I do enjoy it as a weird party trick." His smile dropped a little at the question, but he replied, "I didn't, Autumn gave it to me in a drink after she realized I showed no reaction to something she was trying earlier. Almost poisoned me, if her guess hadn't been right."
Admittedly, it had been delicious, but that was neither here nor there.
"She was," Chris said softly, fondly, "I'll take you to meet her one day. I love talking to her, she's very sweet."
"You really think? I'm kind of hoping for blue, but the garden there, it had all sorts of colors. I think I'd be up for anything," He hummed in thought for a minute, then said, "I think I'll try transplanting it to another pot. See if it can grow as well in it."

Thorne grinned at Chris, amusement in his eyes, dancing above the fond edge that glinted in the corners.
"Well, thank god I found out beforehand then," he retorted dryly, and paused, blinking. "I cannot believe - " he started, sounding exasperated. "Well it's a damn good thing she was right, or what the hell would I have done if you'd keeled over then and there?"
He rolled his eyes, exaggerating a little, but then focused on the pot in his hand, tenderly feeling it out with his fingers. It was like nothing he'd experienced before.
"I'd like that," he murmured, looking up at Chris, "I'd like to meet someone you regard so fondly."
And then he grinned.
"Blue, hm?" He ran a thumb gently over the lavender. "That would be beautiful. I'd like to see it. And we've certainly got enough pots laying around here if you want to try it."

"You would've probably continued living off of fast food and having a sad life deprived of mine and Bergie's presence," Chris replied back, amusement rite throughout his tone. It was kind of reassuring to hear Thorne sound just as exasperated as he had felt the first time, like he wasn't alone in that feeling.
The pot glowed purple softly for a second, then returned to its soft bark looking state. Chris was thrilled for a second at it, glad to see it still held that glow. That reminder.
"I'm sure she'd like to meet you too," Chris said idly, "As one fond person to another."
He took one more look at the pot in Thorne's arms, then back up at Thorne.
"Well here, help me transfer it and then we can plant and find out," Chris replied softly, giving Thorne a gentle bump with his shoulder.

"God," Thorne retorted, laughing, "The saddest life of all. I would have been the person everyone knew to avoid, barking up all the wrong trees to search for you." He grinned at the other mildly, and watched as the pot glowed.
His eyes widened, taking in the soft glow with a happy expression, tinged in reverence. Not all magic was terrifying, and this - this was a reminder.
"Well then, it's a date," Thorne laughed.
He bumped Chris's shoulder in return, wandering into the warehouse and towards the spot of it designated for plant projects.
"Alright, let's make a mess of things," he teased over his shoulder, a grin on his face. "Let's see what we can do."
