Class was over... Class was FINALLY over! Lt. Calomel was more than happy sit there in her seat and wait for all the other 'students' to leave the classroom while she quietly went over her notes. The class, all in all, was pretty educational; alot of really good information was provided despite some bumps here and there.
Over all, the Negaverse was really efficient in telling it's members HOW to do their jobs, but the reasoning behind 'why' was always super flaky. People could claim night and day that the Negaverse 'saved' them, but it gave no explanation as to WHY they served who they served or what their exact purpose was. It was always personal when she asked, and in some cases Calomel could understand. But she had more than her share of soap box reasoning. Her own reason wasn't any better; the Negaverse offered her a Paycheck to teach at Romano's and she needed to pay off her student loans. as simple as that.
She sighed as she finally got up and left the room, heading back into Negaspace. Maybe another General who seemed atleast a little less insane would have an answer that would make the Military History teacher feel atleast a little less out of place among the Lieutenants. She really didn't like the Idea of approaching one (she knew some were really quick to lash out) But it would be better than just doing her job for money. As soon as one passed her by, she quickly approached him, tapping him on the shoulder, then saluting. Maybe this one would be kind enough to allow her to hitch a ride back to Normal Space after their talk. She had no idea where the General who brought her in initially went, and quite honestly, she had no idea where she could find him again anyway.
"Good Evening, General. Lieutenant Calomel here, and if you have a moment, I have a question for you."
kuropeco Sorry about that! I did some editing, hopefully that will cover any issues~

There was an office in the castle in Negaspace; an office that, Aurostibite thought privately, was better and more accurately referred to as a closet. It was hardly bigger than one, after all, and the only things in it currently were a single cherrywood desk, a leather desk chair, and a bookshelf on one wall.
Still, it was enough. Aurostibite didn't need a great deal of space as it was; the house he shared with Mintaka was enough to keep things organized, this was merely a place to keep Negaverse things in the Negaverse. He could organize papers and files with a better certainty that they weren't going to get stumbled across by some unsuspecting - or deliberate - person.
He was not, however, in his office at the present moment, but striding along one of the hallways in the castle, a file tucked under one arm, reading glasses perched on the end of his nose. A day's work done, and now he was preparing to head home.
It was not unusual for there to be people in Negaspace, but Aurostibite being stopped by someone unfamiliar was. He slowed his steps, casting the lieutenant a somewhat wary glance, but he didn't try and force her away.
"Lieutenant," he said, dipping his head towards her. "What question?"kapoodles Just fyi Negaspace =/= the Rift! The Rift is the deeper, creepier, more dangerous, youma-infested part of Negaspace, and you can't teleport in and out of the Rift; it's only accessible through the Hall of Shadows. Negaspace is where they are - and since Calomel is a Lieutenant, she'd need someone to teleport her in and out of Negaspace, since she can't do it on her own!

Calomel was never quite sure what she was going to expect with each new Negaverse member she met. She knew she wasn't here to make 'friends' or 'hold hands' and enjoy life with them. They were at work and they were going to do it. But GEESH it would be be nice to be greeted with a smile every now and then. If teachers were forced to smile and be kind to their students, why should that change in a professional environment. Ah, but that didn't really matter now, did it?
"I believe this question might take some time to answer, so feel free to answer with a 'not now' if it suits you, sir. I have just come from one of the training corps sessions and though the information was useful, I'm having an issue with motivation." She couldn't get in trouble for having doubts about her purpose here, could she? No, this couldn't have been the only time that an individual within their ranks had these doubts. The question of 'why' always seemed to prod and poke her these days after all, and she was just as average as any other Lieutenant among them.
"Please excuse my rather bluntness about the subject, if you would. We are provided a task where we are to gather energy for an entity that I have been told is the 'leader' and the 'greatest' and knows 'exactly what she is doing' at all times. I do not say this with the thought that I do not believe her to be true. But it is hard to find motivation in my uppers who give me know reason to follow instructions except 'because I say so' and 'because she will save us. My question is, Sir, what is your motivation for being with the Negaverse, if it is none too private? What keeps you working day to day for something that you cannot see? Or perhaps you have. To that I am not sure. "
kuropeco Thanks for the info btw! Still getting used to this whole Nega thing!

Calomel's straightforwardness would either get her far within the Negaverse, or far away from the Negaverse, depending on how it was used. It was good to be unafraid here in their positions - but there was a time and a place for everything, after all.
Aurostibite was unaware of what "training corps session" she was referring to, but he let it pass, and instead simply listened, his face as impassive as ever. A brow rose, singularly, at the question of motivation; but rather than interrupt, Aurostibite waited until she actually got to the point of what she was trying to say.
There was silence for a long few moments after the lieutenant had finished speaking, Aurostibite merely watching her. His hands tucked against the small of his back, a considering gleam in his eye that wasn't quite reaching the rest of his face.
"A very personal question indeed," he said calmly, "However, not an unreasonable one. Let me ask you this, before I choose to answer you:
"What sort of motivation are you looking for, exactly?"

Aurostibite's expression left Calomel with an uncertainty in regards to her words. Perhaps this General wasn't the best one to approach. Alas, her long winded spiel about her feelings were already laid out plainly for him so there was no turning back.
Even worst, his silence brought no comfort to her nerves, drawing out a bit of intimidation from inside her which briefly was shown on her face. What was she supposed to do as he continued to watch her this way? Still, she braced herself, standing at her well trained parade rest and waiting calmly for a response.
Then he spoke and she she found herself rather surprised at the response.
"Sir, I am looking for something beyond a blind dedication. I will be frank, I joined due to a monetary need. I was promised a job in the field that I love, and in exchange I accepted a 'gift'. I am slowly coming to understand this gift, and what it is, but that does not mean I know why I do what I am required to. Blind faith in a cause is not the best way to sell an organization. It's certainly a case of "I know what I can do for my organization, but what is my organization attempting to do, and why is it important to me?""

Aurostibite had never been an overly talkative person, and had never seen the point of extraneous conversation. He had enough on his plate already to be dealing with; he did not really understand why people though that making small talk was something that everyone should do. He preferred, on the whole, to keep things simplified and professional for a reason.
Calomel's reasoning was stale, almost offensive in its disregard for the Negaverse as a whole, but none of the irritation that Aurostibite felt shown on his face. He kept silent and listened, wondering just how many others had joined for the same superfluous reason - money and a job. It seemed ludicrous that such things would even be allowed, but he supposed that it would have to do.
The Negaverse is a git and you should be glad of it, he wanted to say, but didn't. Instead, he simply folded his arms across his chest and leaned back against the wall, dark hair falling in ribboning curls down his back, cascading over his shoulders in thick waves.
"This world," said Aurostibite quietly, voice level, and without inflection. "is in dire need of us. Those in Order believe that they know best, but they do not. They have taken what is rightfully ours and tainted it with their ridiculous notions and their desire to see the rest of us hurt and destroyed. I don't pretend that self-preservation is not a motivator in some regards, but it is important to note that the Order believes itself to be the rightful owners of this Earth. They will take it, and they will control it, raze it to the ground if they are left to their own selfish devices."
He arched a dark brow, expression calm and remote; detached, even. He'd said everything without heat, but there as a quiet firmness to the words that indicated a lack of compromise in regards to his beliefs.
"Why are you asking such base questions? What exactly do you have to offer to us?"

"Sir, that is not that first time I've heard such a thing..." she admitted, giving a slight shake of her head. "What is ours exactly? What makes us different than them? How exactly is the Earth suffering from the presence of an enemy I have yet to see, even with all the hours I've put in to my duties? My questions may base, as well as more than likely elementary from what you see, but I take only partial blame for it."
The feeling that she was tiptoeing in rather dangerous territory was not lost on her, but she felt no need to stop her questions or her reasoning. And if the General really would be quick to violence, well, maybe it was a sign that her first instinct that this organization was crazier than expected wasn't entirely wrong.
"To try to pull an individual into your ranks without a proper introduction will lead to such questions. Perhaps I was being selfish when I joined, which no doubt many others have been as well, but that still does not excuse leaders from their duties as instructors in what their organization is. Not everyone that joins are simple sheep to be lead to the slaughter."
Calomel's own words to Aurostibite were passionate, but not to the point where she would have raised her voice. She was not above what she was doing, draining people and manipulating the minds of the youth she taught, but she was still somewhat fresh to the Negaverse so her mind constantly pushed the question why?
"I ask because is it not in my right to know? I offer the Negaverse my skills in teaching for their School in which we should 'open' the minds of our students towards accepting joining us. For what reason should they believe that to be the case? If I am a Military History Instructor, then should I not teach them about the Negaverse as well? And in saying that, how can I teach them if I do not know myself?" She paused, realizing just how frank and pushy she was seeming. She did not know this general in any way shape or form. She only knew that she had a question and the man ended up making it far more complicated than she had once intended.
That feeling that she was to be reprimanded started to climb up her back even more but it was too late now. She really couldn't bring herself to apologize either. Instead she simply pushed back a pale stray hair behind her ear and continued to wait for an answer.

He was silent once more as the lieutenant spoke, mostly out of a desire to hear what she had to say than because he didn't have anything to say himself. Amusement was flickering in his mind, vague and unformed, but it didn't register on his face, which remained stoic and closed off, the very picture of unreadable.
Is this what the Negaverse has become? he wondered, Aurostibite idly smoothing a gloved thumb along the inside of his arm, feeling the fabric shift beneath his fingers. People who cannot see what lies right in front of them? I tire of these boring repetitions.
He tired of a lot of things, actually, but this was beside the current point.
There was silence for a long, almost uncomfortably drawn out moment after Calomel had finished speaking. Aurostibite said nothing and simply looked at her, dark brows drawn low, the brim of his hat pushed slightly up so that his face was less in shadow than it normally would have been. It seemed that he was considering what she had to say, mulling things over inside of his mind before he spoke.
Which, finally, he did.
"You know," Aurostibite said slowly, and a hand reached out, fingers smoothing almost casually across the lieutenant's neck. "You are awfully bold for someone so...new. Arrogance is not a becoming trait, for the record. You think you are entitled to things simply because you fell into this and joined because of selfish reasons?"
If he pushed at all, he knew, he could snap her neck. He almost wanted to, but he let his hand drop again, a dark look crossing Aurostibite's face.
"If you want answers," he said, and this time the emotion laced his voice, hard anger and blunt ferocity. "Go and get them. This is not a daycare. This is not a place where we pamper and prepare you and give you sweets if you do well. You wish to learn your purpose and what the Negaverse stands for? You are not a child. Go and find it. Work for it. Prove yourself. Right now, all I see is someone who expects explanations and reasoning given to her, instead of her coming up with things on her own, instead of her working towards what she believes."
A snort escaped Aurostibite, deliberately derisive as he turned away.
"I cannot tell you what to believe or to stand for, that is your decision and yours alone."

"Sir. I know I am not entitled to anything. You join a military organization, you don't have that freedom. You do as you're told." The urge to slap the hand off of her neck was very strongly there, but she knew better. Though most drill sergeants and leaders weren't allowed to physically touch their underlings, Calomel just knew the Negaverse was different. They weren't afraid to harm and kill civilians, why would they be disallowed to kill their own? The very thought unnerved her, just a bit, but not enough for her to move back from the General, nor enough for her to break his gaze, in fact, her eyes narrowed, in a bit of a challenge.
"Go and get them, sir? Easier said than done. Most answers, as I said, are blind reasonings that state 'Our queen will save us' or 'then Senshi are ruining the planet' but with no supplemental information behind that. And by your logic, sir, you state that I should work towards a reasoning, work towards finding a purpose, do you not? So far the logic I'm finding is that our Negaverse is simply a group of fanatics working towards a goal that has not yet been stated and cheering on an entity that most of our ranks have not yet even seen."
Boundaries were being pressed, that was for certain, and compared to the other Generals she had encountered so far, Aurostibite certainly didn't come off as having much more patience for her questions and inquiries. Though he was certainly right about one thing, Arrogance wasn't a becoming trait, not that she could put that on hold for the moment.
"It is true, you cannot tell me what to believe in, nor what to stand for, and yes, it is my decision, though in saying that it seems you do not care. Shouldn't a General not only focus on their mission, but also those they are in charge of? Certainly a single weak link cannot make or break what was supposed to be a well maintained system, but a new generation of initiates who all fumble around for a purpose without guidance seems like it's enough to ruin a system's future. Or at least that's how some other regimes have fallen in our world."
kuropeco Feel free to react as naturally as you wish to this! Only rule is no straight up murder. xD I figured she's still fresh and new, so her over all attitude towards chaotic actions and things is kinda 'meh' but none of it makes much sense to her.

A hand shot out, as fast as a snake.
Gloved fingers curled around the lieutenant's throat, and in an instant, she had been thrown bodily sideways, into the wall they were standing near to. A few people passing by cast them glances; some were curious, one or two were surprised, but most seemed unfazed by the violence.
Aurostibite's eyes were blazing, but his expression remained cold, closed off, impassive. He took a shifting step back, cape rustling against his shoulder, and idly tugged at the edge of his glove as though pulling it back into place, dropping his arms to his side once more. Head tilted, he regarded the lieutenant, dark hair rippling like a wave down his back.
"I am not your general," he said. "You are not my charge. I have my recruits, carefully selected and immensely intelligent. They are capable of handling the trivialities that you spit out without needing to ask a dozen 'woe-is-me' questions in the meantime. All I'm hearing are excuses, reasons why you don't fit in, insinuations as to the state of the Negaverse. Talk as much as you do, without offering respect or understanding for those above you and rank, and you'll get nowhere fast."
He took a step backward, turning away, lifting a dismissive hand.
"If you feel we're simply a 'group of fanatics,' then get out. Go join the other side. I'm sure you'll find the sparkling logic and reasons that you so wish for there, coated in sugar and honey just to your liking."
