a sense of calling

"Thorne," Chris calls across the warehouse, a lilt of a question in his voice. It's been a week since he's moved back in, since they've made up since their fight. It hasn't been bad, maybe awkward once or twice, but it's starting to feel like normal. Like they hadn't fought at all.

"Where's that one cardigan of yours, the brown one? I want it."

a sense of calling

The answer to Chris's question was simple - Thorne was wearing it.

He blinks from where he is half hidden beyond the plants, laying down the final touches to a decorative edge of one of the floor-to-ceiling windows with delicate strokes.

Stretching and standing, he pads over to where Chris is.

Without hesitation, he drapes it around Chris, still warm, though his hands don't drop, not right away.

"Thief," he says, but his voice is a low, rolling purr. A tease. "What do I get in return?"

a sense of calling

Chris smiles back, stepping forward to indulge himself in Thorne's warmth. The cardigan itself is warm, of course, but nothing like Thorne is himself.

"Hmm, what about dinner? I'll make it tonight," He says in thought. "What do you want to eat?"

a sense of home

Thorne laughs, smells of paint and ink and soil, and leans against Chris, teasing him with the imposition of his weight.

"What a deal," he says. "Alright, surprise me. I've been eating junk food for the past week. It was awful."

a sense of home

Chris gives a surprised grunt but doesn't push Thorne off, not yet. He just rolls his eyes at Thorne, smiles despite himself.

"Of course you would," He says, "You're an animal when left unchecked, how you've survived this long is beyond me and probably the rest of the world. How about stew, since it's starting to turn into fall. I'll even make it spicy."

He was totally bribing his way into his own favorite food, but Thorne said surprise him.

a sense of home

Thorne laughs, a smile on his face, low and wolfish.

"Of course, I am a hungry, hungry wolf, come to huff and puff and blow your house down," he says, sing-song. "I survived to find you. Or something like that. And stew sounds good."

He pauses and considers. Their chaos is slowly consuming the warehouse again. Slowly.

"I'll drag out some blankets, I think the heating broke again," he adds. "Actually, I'm not sure I ever fixed it."

"Mm, must have some excellent survival skills," Chris mutters, pushing back against Thorne now. "For all you know I never would have come, and then what would have the wolf done? Only last to a pitiful twenty seven years, dying as an old man?"

He laughs anyways though, takes comfort in the cardigan.

"Thorne," Chris says, warning in his voice, "As much as blankets are lovely, I'm not freezing to death this winter just because you didn't fix the heating."

a sense of home

"The best, it's why I was at McDonalds at 11:45PM eating french fries and McFlurries a few nights ago," Thorne drawls, half a tease, and lets go of the cardigan to lay his arms over Chris's shoulders with a grin. "At least in the next life I could search for you again," he murmurs, looking at Chris, "And I'm not that old."

He tilts his head at the other with a grin.

"Don't worry, the cold won't kill you tonight," he says, "I promise I'll fix it by next week. I didn't think to when it first went out - "

He hitches and says softly, "But for tonight it's blankets, or you can crawl under me and I'll keep you warm just as well. Your choice."

a sense of home

"That's.. a disturbing time to eat McDonalds but I'm not going to question it," Chris says, moving to actually put his arms in the cardigan. It's a tight squeeze with Thorne's arms on top, but he manages. "You're never guaranteed to find me, you know," He replies softly, but it's fond, not a threat. "You totally are, old man. Don't worry though, I'm only a few years behind you."

He flicks Thorne in the forehead gently, a fake scowl on his face.

"You better," He grumbles, "I'm not dying cold, it's an awful way to go."

"Can I have both? Cuddling works just as well, you know," Chris says.

Thorne laughs.

"It was a terrible night," he says, amused, "Full of poor life decisions." He doesn't bother to lift his arms or help Chris, but he watches him with a fond expression, nettled by tease. "I know," he says, equally soft, "But I'll always search."

He huffs at the flick, eyes rising to meet Chris's own.

"I'll make sure the frostbite doesn't yet you," Thorne drawls, dryly, and catches Chris's wrist with his hand.

"Are you sure you want to get so close to a wolf?" Thorne asks, his voice low and raw with tease. "I've heard they bite, after all."

a sense of home

"Oh, so just like any other night of yours," Chris teases, entirely fond. He's warm and he's happy and has Thorne. He raises a hand to Thorne's neck, gently rests it there. "I'll always search for you too."

"You better not," Chris warns, and he knows Thorne is joking but he's serious.

His his wrist trapped in Thorne's grip there isn't much he can do, but he laughs a little anyways. "Oh no, this wolf is perfectly safe. I have no worries he'll bite me, or if he does, I'll bite back."

"Of course not," Thorne responds, sounding grievously injured, "Most nights I try to behave, you know." It's a lie, he knows it's a lie, and Chris does too, but this easy banter lays in him like a comforting anchor. A steady weight.

"I know," he murmurs, bows his head in the touch.

He laughs again and slides a thumb against Chris's palm.

"You're safe with me," he says, and means it. "And I'll make sure to keep that in mind when you inevitably steal all of my blankets and I'm forced to take drastic measures in retaliation."

"Liar," Chris laughs, but there's no malice in his tone. "You do nothing of the sort, I would know."

He's still in that moment, simply rubbing his thumb along the back of Thorne's neck, savoring the quiet, the calm.

"I know," Chris says quiet, but then laughs. "Sure, sure. Here, now let me go so I can go make dinner, before we die of hunger."

thanks for

It's a quiet night for once, Chris curled up on the couch with a book and indulging in the warmth of a blanket and a cardigan layered over him. He'll try to sleep eventually, but for now he's content in what he's doing.

Idly he brings his gaze up to look over the warehouse, wondering where Thorne and the cats are at. They usually aren't far apart.

thanks for

Thorne pads out of the bedroom, naked from the waist up, his wings rippling into place from shadows, from nothing, like galaxies coming together to form the appendages themselves. His head is bowed, and he scrubs at his hair with a towel that is draped over it and across his shoulders, snowy white against his dark skin.

Millie curls around his feet and goes to find Bergamot. She loves water more than most cats, and doesn't mind laying in sinks, particularly when Thorne needs them.

Thorne himself looks up at Chris and pads over, sitting on the ground in front of his feet.

"Good book?" He asks mildly, wings flaring out, lowering to the hardwood floor. Surprisingly, they are warm, like a leathery second source of heat.
